The Swamp

by Jill Zuckman

Let the fun begin.

Now that Sen. John McCain has officially locked up the Republican nomination for president and is collecting President Bush’s endorsement at the White House this afternoon, the Democrats are having a field day.

In a preview of the general election, the Campaign to Defend America has launched a $1 million ad buy accusing McCain of being “McSame” as Bush on Iraq, the economy and health care.

And the Democratic National Committee has put out a tsk, tsk sort of statement condemning McCain for painting himself as an Independent “maverick” who bucks the Republican Party.

“But his record reveals that on issue after issue a vote for McCain is a vote for a continuation of the same failed Bush policies that have been disastrous for America,” said the DNC statement.

Ironically for McCain, he spent most of the primary season trying to convince conservative voters not to worry about all those times he broke from his party.

When he's not the same as Bush, McCain is the same as Teddy Kennedy on immigration and the same as Russ Feingold on anti-free speach. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, desperate Republicans.

If John McCain is the same as George Bush on protecting this nation from terrorists, he's got my vote and that of everyone I know. Without safety of our citizens, all of the other issues are nothing but shifting sand. The last thing we need is a wimp or wimpette in the White House.

A "$1 million ad buy" is so small as to be irrelevant (and that's even assuming the DNC actually spends the money). Obviously, the DNC is only announcing the ad buy to give sympathetic journalists the excuse to run the ad for free.

Jill, Mark, can we readers expect you Swampies to give the same free publicity to GOP ads as you do to Democrat ads?

And what "New" do you expect from the Clintons ? Haven't we already suffered enough from eight long years of embarassment, disgust, disappointment, despair ? Do we need more travelgate, Whitewatergate, FBI filegate, Monica playing Bills organ, Chinagate, Saudigate ? Sorry, anybody on the Left who wants to put money on "Buckwheat and Monica Lewinsky's ex-boyfriend's wife" as a vaunted team to put out on the field needs to look back on how successful the previous losers like McGovern, Gore, Kerry, etc. worked for you. You guys have a penchant for putting bush league teams out to play pro ball.

Meet the new GOP warmonger - McCain

Same as the old GOP warmongers - Bush/Cheney

Buckwheat? Nice. You must have gotten the memo from Karl about trying not to sound like a bigot.

Nice post scumbag. Are you one of those "great" Americans. Not a chance. That high moral road doesn't run by the rock you live under..does it?

"If John McCain is the same as George Bush on protecting this nation from terrorists, he's got my vote and that of everyone I know."

Um, someone tell this guy George Bush failed to protect this country on 9/11 when he had the chance. He was warned, ignored the warnings; he fired his terrorism expert; he held 0 meetings on terrorism before 9/11. Bush failed to protect this nation.

Oh, what short memories Democrats have. Wasn't McCain a hero of the left (and the media's best friend) because he was the chief Republican critic of Bush? Didn't Tom Daschle try to persuade him to become a Democrat before Jim Jeffords flipped? Didn't Kerry want McCain to be his running mate!?

Oh, what short memories Democrats have

Who has the short memory? it would seem to me it is the republicans. The republicans ask him to become a democrat, and now he's your guy?

If McBush can do as good a job as Bush protecting us from meteors...

Without safety of our citizens, all of the other issues are nothing but shifting sand. The last thing we need is a wimp or wimpette in the White House.

Without freedom and liberty, safety means nothing.

A perfectly safe prison would still be terrible place to live.

"If John McCain is the same as George Bush on protecting this nation from terrorists, he's got my vote and that of everyone I know."

Obviously you don't know many people.. lol 80% of the country wants CHANGE not more of the same like McSame represents.

bill "hussein" r: Do any of your posts give your own opinion - or just insult others?

Same for you Peter platt.

I'm voting for McCain - even if he's compared to Bush. Better Bush than Clinton. (Though in all honesty if Clinton ran against Lucifer I's vote for him).
