Messiah calling Obama, Clinton and McCain: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Messiah College is calling all candidates.

Wouldn't this be an event: "An unprecedented bipartisan presidential candidate forum'' with Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain.

Messiah College, a small Christian college outside of Harrisburg, Pa., is proposing just that on April 13, a little over one week before the Pennsylvania presidential primary elections.

The college is conducting a "Compassion Forum,'' which is "intrinsic to the mission and values of Messiah College,” according to. Kim Phipps, president of Messiah.

"Now more than ever, Americans motivated by faith are bridging ideological divides to address domestic and international poverty, global AIDS, climate change, abortion, genocide in Darfur, and human rights and torture,'' says the college in Grantham, Pa., with a campus for 3,000 students, which was founded in 1909. "The Compassion Forum will provide the opportunity for candidates to discuss how their faith and moral convictions bear on their positions on these important issues.''

So they have invited both of the Democratic candidates for president as well as the presumptive Republican nominee for president. We'll hold our breath waiting for acceptances.

This is a must have for the Obamessiah!

And they're scared to invite Ron Paul, because he'd mop the floor with them in that kind of forum...proving just how much of a MSM-run joke this election has become...

Obamessiah? I'm for Obama, but it's that kind of stuff that makes people argue; noone will ever be a perfect candidate.

That being said, this would be excellent.

do we not have a seperation of church and state...i feel that, as an american, none of the three candidates' religion should reflect anyway onto their policies on different issues...

Sounds like a good idea, but why invite Hillary? Shouldn't just the front-runners be invited?

And, umm... Jeff.... don't know what basement you and your Ron Paul supporting friends are living in, but check out the Sun's archives. You'll find a story from WEEKS AGO that Ron Paul, your Beloved Physician, quit the race. Sorry, better luck next time.

There already is a messiah in America, Jeff.

He's a Republican

You voted for him...TWICE!

He said his favorite philosopher is GOD

He said that he didn't have to listen to Russian Prez Putin because he looked into his "soul" and saw an "honest man"

He said that when making decisions in the Oval office he always consults god first.

I give you, The Republican Messiah:

Don't make another mistake America, don't give Bush a third term by voting for his little pal John W McBush this fall.

If any of there three do have strong religious convictions, then it is very probable that they will reflect onto their policies on different issues. So we might as well here them. And besides, what does separation of church and state have to do with candidates talking about their religious views. It is not like they are imposing their views on anyone.

Messiah College.....that's Obama's alma mater.....after all he's the American Messiah.....with a hugh following......

U.S.A. OF ISREAL

Sounds like a stupid idea.

John, I never actually voted for him, but I see your point.

I would enjoy hearing the candidates discuss their beliefs in Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny.

DON'T BE DUPED!!!

Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.

But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. “Carpe diem” (harvest the day).

I think Hillary Clinton see’s a beautiful world of plenty, and comfort for all. She is a woman, and a mother. And it’s time America. Do this for your-self, and your children’s future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.

You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don’t want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-self.

Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!

As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.

Hillary Clinton has been out manned, out gunned, and out spent 2 and 3 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.

If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON’T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.

The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket now! Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.

I think Barack Obama has a once in a life time chance to make the ultimate historic gesture for unity, and change in America by accepting Hillary Clinton’s offer as running mate. Such an act now would for ever seal Barack Obama’s place at the top of the list of Americas all time great leaders, and unifiers for all of history. But the time to act is soon.

The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.

Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.

“This is not a game” (Hillary Clinton)

Sincerely

jacksmith...

you guys seem over the top with lunacy. if you don't have something nice to say, stay at home and type it over the internet. golly

All I can say is how do you not walk out on a Pastor saying this about American. between this and Michelle's statements: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=4443788&page=1

I don't see the point here, except to single out the issue of the 'religious values' of the candidates. It's lose-lose deal. If you decline, you're labeled as somebody without religious convictions (perish the thought). If you accept, you're in the sandbox with the rest of the kids trying to 'prove' how you're a better Christian (or whatever) than the rest of them. Now here's a novel idea: stick to the issues, and leave religion out of it. Entirely. I'd be inclined to vote for the one who has the integrity to pass on the offer.

THIS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IS A COMPLETE JOKE. A JUNIOR SENATOR FROM ILLINOIS, A COAT TAIL HOLDER FROM NEW YORK, AND A SENIOR CITIZEN FROM ARIZONA...WOW...WE REALLY ARE COMING APART AT THE SEAMS LIKE THE ROMAN EMPIRE...AND AS FAR AS BARACK OBAMA'S "CHANGE" JUST LISTEN TO HIS "FORMER" PASTOR TO SEE WHAT KIND OF "CHANGE" HE WANTS FOR ALL OF US...TIME FOR THE FEW GOOD CITIZENS OF THIS "ONCE" GREAT NATION TO MOVE OUT AND LET THE MEXICANS AND THE OBAMA-ITES HAVE WHATS LEFT OF IT. I AM SADDENED AT WHAT WE HAVE BECOME. 1000.00 AN OUNCE FOR GOLD, THE YEN STOMPING THE GUTS OUT OF THE DOLLAR, AND OIL AT 110.00 A BARREL...GAS PRICES APPROACHING 4.00 AND UP...ADIOS.

i think the way to solve the problem with fla and mi,about which dellegats go to who,is to seat the deligates, and divide them half to obama and half to hillary, then the problem is solved, and no one will have an advantage

I've noticed that Barack Obama seems to honor in his own conduct his plea that we not demonize those with whom we disagree. If he brings that with him to the White House it do a world of good.

I personally think it's just a waste of time. If we want to know what their religious beliefs are we can look on their website. I would rather watch them have another debate that asks tough questions like last time. I think the debates tell alot about person; that would be ideal.

Will, it would be smart of you to reconsider your question. Religion is the basis for all morals and beliefs whether you are a christian or an athiest. And because of this, how would you seperate your policies from what you believe? Don't we make policies based on our values and what we believe in? Of course. Just a littel heads up.

John and Jeff, THANK you for showing that two people can still have a civil disagreement about this election!
This is an interesting idea. I'm a practicing Catholic, but I also believe strongly in the separation of Church and State. The flaw in this proposal I believe, is that all three candidates seem to also believe in a separation between Church and State (thankfully). So I don't see their religious views playing a huge role in their policy making. But, I think it would be interesting to hear their definitive stances on these issues from a humanist perspective. This could also be a good chance for all three candidates to explain how they can respect the separation of Church and State while still being people of faith in their private lives. Maybe some of the more extreme members of Christian Right will be able to see that it IS possible to do both!

How can anyone give support to Obama for president? He talks bad about our country and the beliefs we were founded on. He won't even recite the pledge.
You know what? I hope he is the democratic candidate. John McCain could start celebrating early.

although this one could appreciate a true exchange of actual issues such a forum hasn't been given ~ i'd love to see Ralph Nader (don't wince-his view are valid/pertinent)included in a discussion that would actually give Obama someone to truly 'debate' with rather than the 'status quo' presentations i've seen! whoever does what = Obama's had my vote since before he 1st announced!!!

Reason: please check your facts. I am an undecided independent voter so since you haven't done your research allow me to share mine.

Obama recites the pledge. He didn't place his hand over his heart during the playing of the National Anthem. In case you're wondering, "36 U.S.C. § 301(b)(1) (the current section of the U.S. Code dealing with conduct during the national anthem) does not compel the placement of the right hand over the heart during the performance of the national anthem (a requirement that would presumably be unconstitutional)."
As for the allegations about the pledge, why not let the man speak for himself? From Associatedcontent.com:

The other day I received an email with a picture in it of Barack Obama. The email claimed that the picture was of Mr. Obama refusing to put his hand over his heart and say the Pledge of Allegiance. Of course, the email went on to state how we shouldn't vote for anyone who refuses to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Mr. Obama agrees. I wrote a letter to Mr. Obama asking him his side of the story. At first I thought he wouldn't reply when I received a standard letter thanking me for joining his campaign. I responded letting his campaign staff know that was not my intention. A few days later, much to my surprise, he replied to my original letter.

Dear Friend,

Thank you for inquiring about the false accusation that I have refused to sing the National Anthem or say the Pledge of Allegiance. I knew when I decided to run for President that I would not be immune from the "anything goes" form of attack politics that has been so prominent in our elections in recent years. And this outrageous charge is just another example of the kind of mean spirited, "shock" politics I will move beyond as President.

I am honored to lead a life of public service, and it is inconceivable that I would ever refuse to say the Pledge or sing the National Anthem. In fact, as a U.S. senator, I am sometimes called upon to preside over the opening of the Senate in the morning, at which time I am proud to lead my colleagues in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, with my right hand over my heart. Anybody who doesn't believe in the Pledge shouldn't be running for President.

Every time I have been elected or reelected to the Illinois Senate and the United States Senate, I have proudly raised my right hand, placed my left hand on the Bible and sworn to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." And I will be proud to take the Presidential Oath of office on January 20, 2009.

Thank you again for contacting me. Please share this message with anyone you know who has been misled by this baseless and particularly hurtful political attack.

Sincerely,
Barack Obama

Lastly, Reason, I'd like you to please provide a specific quote where Obama "talks bad about our country." For one, this man has not made any critique about the current state of political affairs in America that has not been agreed upon by his democratic rival Hillary Clinton. Secondly, there is a vast difference between speaking ill of our nation and acknowledging the things we should change about it. We can't afford another administration that believes acknowledging legitimate problems in our society is somehow unpatriotic. This notion is the most tragic legacy of the G.W.Bush presidency. On the contrary, there is nothing more patriotic in America than exercising your RIGHT and DUTY as a citizen to question your government. That, my friend, is one of the quintessential "beliefs we were founded on."

The Obamas thrive on that rhetoric she's a racist the pastor a racist and just about everybody there is a racist....are you new to Chicago Ken ?

Alternate Headline;

Fundy Jesus Freaks co-opt liberal causes!

Messin' With Fundies;

Many times in the PM we are 'visited' by Xtian extremists, usually Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons or Baptists, that want to interrogate us.

For just such occasions I keep a dead soldier half filled with water. When I answer the door I listen for 10 seconds while liberally drinking the water out of the gin bottle at which point I tell them in a loud voice to get the h off my front porch.

This is more fun than you possibly imagine.

My Lord. DON B: I don't understand how you can blanketly accuse people you've never met of being racist. I agree with Ken that the pastor's comments are inflammatory and inappropriate but if you read the article Obama clearly states he does not agree with such comments. Guess what? I'm Catholic, but I don't agree with everything the Pope says. The Mormon church taught that "black-skinned people are 'unrighteous,' 'despised'and 'loathsome' descendants of the biblical Cain" as part of it's doctrine until 1978. Yet I don't see you labeling Mitt Romney a racist (nor should you)!
Furthermore, Have you forgotten (or maybe you never knew) that Obama is HALF WHITE? I guess he must also hate the mother and grandparents who raised him, then. UNBELIEVABLE!

Your accusations are unfair, unfounded, and divisive. Shame!

By the way, if you truly believe what you say is true, then tell your wife/daughters/sisters etc. they can't watch Oprah anymore because she must also be racist. She attends that church as well.

Marie,

Don B is a disingenuous twaddler.

Hey Jack - actually Republicans that vote for Obama by large majority mean it - and will vote Obama in November. It is the ones that are now voting for Hillary that don't mean it and would never vote for her in November: www.alternet.org/election08/79506/

Plus, this BS coming out of the Clinton camp about Obama being unelectable? Think again - see here:
www.fivethirtyeight.com/

And for those of you unaware, the 'other' side of the Naftagate story:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBheLrsMh4E

With all things being equal I am ready to get behind BHO. This is my logic, out of the 3 let assume that none of them are able to get any of their ideas passed, none of them are able to change anything. Obama wins in my book.

jacksmith, do you copy and paste your same rhetoric on all the blogs? I swear this is the 3rd time I have seen this same exact post on a blog!

The only reason Clinton keeps making a comeback is because thier campaign and supporters like to smear Obama every chance they get. Unfortunately, many uneducated voters (Hillary's forte) buy right into this trash. If America was better educated and wiser to this untrue rhetoric, this race wouldn't even be close. Even as it is now, she doesn't have a chance unless the superdelegates nominate her...I don't think that will happen. If the dems don't win this election this fall, it will be the Clinton campaigns fault. Shame on them for preying on Americans who unfortunately don't any better. People, please start looking into the facts and elect the wholesome candidate...the candidate that the whole world has been waiting for.

You remember Putin stepped down as President of Russia after he appointed his successor? Then He created another position higher than the president so he could keep control. What if hillary does that and Appoints Bill to that position

PS Bill Clinton could be the anti Christ that the Bible speaks about. He will be like a savior to the World until his time comes to desecrtate the Temple in Jarusalem.

jacksmith- whack-a-mole#5(?). Nicely done, I must say. I just wish I got paid to turn my brain off and post someone else's words. Alas, I'm stuck thinking and speaking for myself.
Yours, the sycophant

According to the statement made by Kim Phipps(President of Messiah College), at the compassion forum: "Conversation topics will focus on compassion and social justice issues such as U.S. and global poverty; AIDS; climate change; Darfur; and human rights." It will not just be about the candidates' religious beliefs. It is about their plans for action to help those within and outside our borders. My hope, as a Messiah College student, is that I will be able to look past how a candidate's faith matches up with my own, and instead look at how their plans for action match up with the needs of the world. Their actions as the future president are much more important to me than their religious beliefs.
