This is a shocker. The New York Times is reporting that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is allegedly tied to a prostitution ring.

Spitzer was in Washington over the weekend at the Gridiron Dinner. When he was introduced, a lot of the people in the hotel ballroom probably thought as I did, that he had really hurt what once looked like a promising political future with his aborted controversial move to give drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants. Now that seems like the least of his problems.

Here's what the NYT is reporting:

ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has informed his most senior administration officials that he had been involved in a prostitution ring, an administration official said this morning.

Mr. Spitzer, who was huddled with his top aides inside his Fifth Avenue apartment early this afternoon, had hours earlier abruptly canceled his scheduled public events for the day. He scheduled an announcement for 2:15 after inquiries from the Times.

Mr. Spitzer, a first term Democrat who pledged to bring ethics reform an end the often seamy ways of Albany, is married with three children.

Just last week, federal prosecutors arrested four people in connection with an expensive prostitution operation. Administration officials would not say that this was the ring with which the governor had become involved.

But a person with knowledge of the governor’s role said that the person believes the governor is one of the men identified as clients in court papers.

The governor’s travel records show that he was in Washington in mid-February. One of the clients described in court papers arranged to meet with a prostitute who was part of the ring, the Emperors Club VIP on the night of Feb. 13.

Mr. Spitzer appeared on a CNBC television show at 7 a.m. the next morning. Later in the morning, he testified before a Congressional committee.

An affidavit filed in federal court in Manhattan in connection with that case lists six conversations between the man, identified as Client 9, and a booking agent for the Emperors Club.

Well sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

At least it didn't involve an airport bathroom.

When did Spitzer become a republican?

Well sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Atleast it didn't involve an oval office.

Your right - prostitution is an industry that uses drugs, extortion, and physical abuse to provide a supply of human product, ( runaway children, drug addicts etc..) to clients for profit.

And...you think the two are comparable? Or are you just making outrageous comments to twist this into a political issue?

Once again this proves that the Republicans have a culture of corruption.

Oh wait

The seamy ways of Albany? Seriously?

Hey idiot Republican defenders: just because a Democrat gets caught violating "ethics" doesn't diminish the foibles of the so-called "moral majority". They're still just as scummy as ever. Nice try though.

The kicker: He's a Hillary supporter. I guess that was cuckold's guilt just like with Billy, Gary Hart and the long list of democrat politicians who for some reason just couldn't keep it in their pants.

In fairness to Eliot, it takes a lot to make CNBC tolerable.

Joe Bruno must be laughing hysterically today.

You think this opens up New York in November for the republicans? There's a gentleman named Giuliani who's still massively popular there who wouldn't scoff at the Vice Presidency...

When it's the governor, it's automatically a political issue.

Let's not confuse consensual - if immoral - activity between adults with illegal activity.

What nobody ever seems to point out: it's not a Democratic or Republican thing. What all these philanderers have in common is: Gender.

Hey Elliot! Pick up the phone it's Bill! Man tell me you shredded the pictures from the Emperors! If Hil gets a copy of that one with you, me and that Monica Tawnythighs bimbo I'm screwed!. Look man dump the photos, trash the laptop and I'll cover you once we meet up in Dubai. Call me when you finish the press confrence and don't tell Hil!

Why didn't he just call Hillary? I'm sure she's not getting any from Bill!

heartburn,
Glad to see you've manufactured compassion towards prostitutes today. Is there any person or cause you can't will yourself to give a voice to? Last time I check you could say the same thing about Professional sports. Drugs, check. Extortion, check. Physical abuse, check.

Eliot Spitzer is politically finished even in the State of New York. He was a rising star in the Democratic Party. But he turned out to be his own worse enemy. Bye bye Eliot.

Well, I'm sure he'll take the moral and ethical example of Senator David Vitter who, when he admitted that he used prostitutes, immediately resigned his....Oh, wait. Never mind.

And all this time I thought he was trying to screw the taxpayers and insurance companies....

This is not about politics but about character and abuse of position. Spitz; one of those overzealous persecutor's got caught. I trust his law-licence will be revoked permanently. I am glad prosecutors--such as Nifong and Spit git caught. McSpadden of AR is yet another overzealous persecutor; I hope gets busted. These are the power brokers who often cause innocent people to lose their freedom.

I have to say if proven true, he needs to go right away. I won't throw a few names of the republican party up who have been found corrupt to justify this.

very disappointed Mr. Spitzer but very forgiving. My hope is that you are made whole again and focus on the issues that will unite and take care of the people on NY. Our prayers are with you, Silda and family. 2Sa 22:3

Heartburn...Funny..I thought you guys hated gays more than anything.

I'm not concerned about the man and his alleged buying of prostitute. Have you all thought about his wife and children. What this embarrassment is doing to them.

These men that go out and buy sexual favors from prostitute run the risk of bringing home dieases of all sorts to their wives or vice versa if the woman is purchasing sexual favor.

Doesn't anyone care about family anymore!

May we say, "the Emperor has no clothes."

The forthcoming democRATic spin...

This is a personal matter, it should just be between him and his wife.

Paulo

Now Spitzer and Clinton both know the true meaning of "Public Affairs" work...

This is a personal matter, it should just be between him and his wife.

No, just between him and your wife.

I am sure you have a point-probably feeble and without merit, but a point nonetheless... can you try again?

Turns out you were wrong...anything else you could be wrong about?

How about just between him and his call girl? Or does he have to contact her "service," too? I guess some would say it should just remain between the three of them... and Spitzer's wife.

Seriously, he knows he's a public figure. How dumb can you be?

Spitzer Swallows

Sorry, I know that's crude, but I couldn't resist. I don't know the guy from Adam. :)

You state that: "When he was introduced, a lot of the people in the hotel ballroom probably thought as I did, that he had really hurt what once looked like a promising political future with his aborted controversial move to give drivers' licenses to illegal immigrants."

I assume you're overlooking the investigation into his misuse of the NY State Police to go after his political opponents that has already resulted in high level resignation on the governor's staff? Abuse of power by a public official is a much more significant thing than silly immigration law proposals (and his alleged forays into the call girl world, for that matter.)

"This is a personal matter, it should just be between him and his wife.

No, just between him and your wife"

I love it when someone like wienderdog43 comes in a proves once again that liberals are miserable, depressed human beings.

Nothing better than letting them prove it on their own.

Sucks to be you.

It's about politics and morals alrighty. And it's not a private right and act. Prostitution is illegal. And, the Gov knows this as he prosecutes by the law that he has no respect for in applying to himself. This is being above the law. And, since he happens to be a Democrat, well so be it and one would think that he alone is responsible for his actions and not either party. Unfortunately, it does cast shadows. Hey, just vote for Obama or McCain. And as for family, he alone is responsible and accountable and therefore it stands. That's life. Should the public not know what our officials who say they represent our best interests and then betray us not be known because they have family. Gosh, maybe all prisoners would like to have this privilege too. Now, if one wants to be politically correct, down steps the wrongdoer and onto issues and who will be the next Gov and Pres.

EXPERIENCE ...

It is three in the morning and the phone rings.

It is New York Governor Eliot Spitzer on the line.

"Bill?"

Clinton-Spitzer '08,
the nostalgia of it all!!!

DISPATCHES FROM THE GROUND WAR ...

THE HUFFINGTON POST IS REPORTING ...

Why The Spitzer Scandal Should Work For Obama

Thomas de Zengotita March 10, 2008

This delicious piece of trash reminds everybody of the yuck factor that haunts the Clinton Restoration movement.

It's subliminal, but that could make it even better.

Obama's awful challenge right now is to remind Democrats of how McCain will destroy the Clintons in the general election without having Obama sink to the level of Hillary's as far as I know knife thrust.

Spitzer will remind everyone of Monica -- and all the others too. ...

He will remind them of how Hillary was willing to destroy women her husband exploited in service of their weird life-long power pact.

Spitzer could do all this without Obama saying a word.

This is important because public memory is short and Democrats have been letting Hillary get away with jokes about evil men and earning wrinkles.

Feminist Democrats have led the way.

Imagine what, say, Gloria Steinem would have said if a Republican president were caught with DNA evidence on a White House intern's dress.

And imagine the judgments that would have descended upon the wife who enabled him. ...

Gonna get quiet on this post shortly since Spitzer has now stepped down and no lib wants to even know about it anymore; one reason being what "Spit" did when pursuing crime and hiring folk and pointing his fingers in the face to those whom he would be saying he was out to get. And the arrogance is real enough when and was obviated when he slipped to a reporter while stepping down from a plan (cool phrase) and said he's be on the news shortly. Full of self, even to the end, Spit says he is now atoning. Sure, after being caught. Self pity gets one nowhere. Am sorry for his daughters and what he has and will be putting them through. As he committed adultery and ho-monged those he prosecuted; he was all the time pointing to himself. It ain't over "til the fat lady sings" as they say and this does refer or defer to obesity; it means full with gluttonous self unto relief or other ends. Any pity here should be for his family and the fact that we should all carefully examine things before we vote with common sense; therefore, vote for McCain or Obama! Morals and family values really do count along with our being safe. What an imposter Spit proved to be with all his zealousy. Something like the Clintons, who use folk and stomp on them at the same time. Patterson will do the job the right way. It's ironic that one's dog is trained so well that it behooves one to know why it bit its master. Amen.
