No surprise here. The New York City tabloids are having a field day with the revelation that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer was tied to a prostitution ring.
The New York Post has a headline that is guaranteed to have a lot of people, including journalists, shaking their heads today:
Rhyming appears to be very important in NYC tabloid headlines about gubernatorial sex scandals, as illustrated not just by the Post but the Daily News, too:
Meanwhile, our sister paper Newsday, plays it the straightest with a "just the facts" headline:
They all loved the image of a moist-eyed, bummed-out Spitzer with his lips drawn in to create a super sad expression.

Who knew that getting caught using hookers had the effect of making a man's lips get sucked deep into his face like that?

It's the "hypocricy stupid". I have always stood my ground when I see the hypocricy of many on the right. I feel no different if he is from the left. Hypocricy is hypocricy and he needs to step down.

I can't believe he's still in office!! He'll be in jail soon if this evidence holds up.

Somebody tell me why nobody checked out Giulliani's transactions in the past 8 years??? And people got killed when his head popped up (e.g. in London).

When these dems get caught it's always a lip thing...remember how B.J. Clinton bit his lip when he admitted to the Monica Oval Office tryst?
The next time I get pulled over for speeding, I'm going to try that lip thing and see what happens.

I see from The Smoking Gun client #10 asked for a date in Chicago. I wonder who that is.

Cheryl, my money's on Blago. His current gubernatorial fundraising scandal isn't sufficient, alone, to satisfy his mammoth ego.
"I have all the attorneys a governor of Illinois needs."

Him? what about her? She looks devastated (but she still looks smokin' gorgeous). Paying for a hooker when he has(d) a wife like her? Hubba Hubba

I must have missed the last chapter of the Karma Sutra. I thought that there wasn't anything you couldn't get for tree fitty.

Hey, it's only about sex guys! Please tell me why Clinton got a free pass for boinking a young intern but this guy should be barbequed for boinking a prostitute? Yes, I understand that he was hard on crime and especially prostitution but the man needs sexual release and I think he was a lot more discreet than getting BJ's in the oval office! Besides I've never heard about this guy having trouble before. Hill's Billy had dozens of them before Monica! Let the man finish his term and then let the voters decide. Do what the Dems do so well..DENY, DENY, DENY!

With your luck, the trooper will be a Republican and give you two tickets - one for the moving violation, and the other for impersonating a Democrat.

I can just see the button with his face on it now. "Have a sad day."

Granbo,
It is not about sex. It’s about breaking the law.
Clinton didn’t get in trouble for playing tonsil hockey with M.L. He got in trouble for lying about it in grand jury testimony, during a deposition, and for obstruction of justice. And he didn’t get a free pass either. To avoid indictment – which he never should have avoided – he had to accept a suspension of his license to practice law for five years and pay a fine. You might call that a slap on the wrist, but it wasn’t a free pass.
As far as Spitzer goes, one can’t even be sure that he is going to get any grilling other than what he’s gotten in the press. For all we know, he could be cutting a deal with state and federal prosecutors right now to turn State’s evidence against this prostitution ring.
On the other hand, if he were to get in legal trouble, it wouldn’t be just for having sex. Prostitution is different from “sex” in that it is illegal to exchange sex for valuable consideration. In many places, it is just as illegal to solicit sex from a prostitute as it is for a prostitute to solicit sex from a potential customer. Furthermore, if he arranged to have this prostitute cross State lines for his tryst or trysts, he could well have violated federal laws against transporting people in interstate commerce for purposes of prostitution.
And, Granbo, you are forgetting one more thing. Eliot Spitzer made a career in the New York Attorney General’s Office by being tough on crime. He saw to it that a lot of people went to jail or prison for prostitution. His “tough on crime” stance is largely what got him the job of Governor – the person ultimately responsible for executing the laws of the State. So when he violated the same State laws for which he prosecuted others, and which he has sworn to uphold as Governor, it isn’t just sex. It is a serious breach of trust and a violation of his oath of office.

True. If the hooker had been a transvestite or gay, he would be guilty of impersonating a Republican.

Hmmm...competition on how great and kind to ?Spit or the public by whatever tabloid...how wonderful!!! Who gives a hoot. The SPIT is what he is; and I don't give a spit how you display his face cause his actions tell the truth as to what he really is and that is: DESPICABLE and UNQUALIFIED to be NYSTATE's GOV! So long and don't let the door hit you in the arce.
And, by the way, he is not a Republican; he is so Democrat while not even being democratic. No party, race, or gender isssue here folk! Just a complete sleaze at work who gets caught. And another thing, you don't have to be a Republican or a Democrat to be sleazy or even great. Now, the great part is what would make good news and in the best interest of America and all Americans. So, let's move forwardly, while atonement is admired for those who deserve it and I'd guess this does not mean Eliot. Does power corrupt or does evil just surface now and then to bring us up to man's shortcomings and dealing with it. And in knowing which shortcomings are of such nature that cause America and its peoples harm. And removing that harm. Hmmmm.
