At first it looked like Sen. Evan Bayh might be about to make news on Face the Nation.
He's a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, he said, and had been told that it's not a question of whether the U.S. will be attacked again by al Qaeda, it's a matter of when.
But then pressed on the matter, Bayh said he just meant that "Our intelligence people have said that publicly," and that the point he was trying to make is that voters should think seriously about which presidential candidate will handle the terrorist threat properly.
It was a theme on the Sunday talk shows this morning, as surrogates for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama heightened the debate about that "red phone" moment: Who do you want answering the White House phone when there's something scary going on?
Bayh, a Clinton backer, said "I don't think it's fearmongering" for her to raise the point with her new TV ad, which shows children sleeping while, in the background, the White House phone is ringing.
But Sen. Chris Dodd argued that Obama is the guy you want, and not just because he has the "character, integrity and life experience" called for.
For authority he invoked another Senate committee, and another Indiana senator. He noted that Dick Lugar, when he was chairman of the Foreign Relations committee in 2005, picked Obama as his travel partner to Russia to visit nuclear and biological weapons destruction sites.
"It's not just who picks up that phone," Dodd said, "it's what they say."
Over on ABC, they went over similar ground. Obama advisor David Axelrod argued that the question of judgment has already been illuminated. Clinton voted to authorize the war in Iraq while Obama spoke out against it. (If you feel like you've heard that before, that's because it's such a conversation-ender for the part of the Democratic base motivated mostly by hatred of the war.)
But Howard Wolfson, Clinton's communications director, countered with a new turn of phrase likely to come up, at least in concept, in the days between now and the Tuesday Democratic contests.
Obama got his point of view on the record with a speech in 2002, when he was a member of the Illinois Senate, Wolfson noted, not a member of the U.S. Senate who actually had to vote on the matter.
And that speech, said Wolfson, is a "metaphor for his career."
"Powerful speech, powerful words," said Wolfson, "followed up by no action."
When Obama got to the Senate, said Wolfson, he voted pretty much like Clinton did, and didn't act on his concerns about the threat in Afghanistan. He never held a substantive hearing of the Senate subcommittee on European Affairs, which he chairs and which has jurisdiction over NATO, the U.S. ally in Afghanistan.
Think this is turning nasty? So does New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, the former presidential candidate now trying to preserve his options with both campaigns. Indeed, on Face the Nation, he praised and critiqued his former rivals equally.
See Mark Silva's post for details.

Obama says he highly respects the opinions of Rev. Wright who Obama has said brought hope to many and gave an award to the notorious Louis Farrakhan. Nation of Islam Minister who said we are witnessing the phenomenal rise of a man of color in a country that has persecuted us! Obama hasn't distanced himself from Farraklhan as he wants the media to believe. A number of Jewish and pro-Israel voters have concerns and raised questions about Barack Obama. In case you haven't followed this ongoing issue, here's a brief summary of the complaints:Obama has called for engaging Iran. Daniel Ayalon, Israel's former ambassador to the United States, told the New York Sun he is concerned Obama would want to negotiate with a "Hitler-like" regime. Some of Obama's policy advisors of various stripes, such as Samantha Power, Robert Malley, and Zbigniew Brzezinski, have come under attack for their views on Israel. World Jewish Congress President Ronald Lauder fears, it's only a matter of time before the president becomes anti-Israel Howard Friedman, the president of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, said the leading presidential candidate are all interested in continuing close ties with Israel. Obama in traditional muslim garb brought these questions back to the fore Obama is a closet Muslim. Obama hasn't distanced himself from Farraklhan as he wants the media to believe, Obamas and his church said Farrakhan "epitomized greatness. For Americans, Farrakhan epitomizes racism, particularly in the form of anti-Semitism. Over the years, he has compiled an awesome record of offensive statements, even denigrating the Holocaust by falsely attributing it to Jewish cooperation with Hitler "They helped him get the Third Reich on the road." His history is a rancid stew of lies. Any praise of Farrakhan heightens the prestige of the leader of the Nation of Islam. His anti-Semitism and particularly his false insistence that Jews have played an inordinate role in victimizing African Americans. Farrakhan's dream has vilified whites and singled out Jews to blame for crimes large and small. He talks of Jewish conspiracies to set a media line for the whole nation. He has reviled Jews in a manner that brings Hitler to mind. And yet Obama and Rev Wright heaped praise on Farrakhan. He applauds his "depth of analysis when it comes to the racial ills of this nation." He praised "his integrity and honesty." He called him "an unforgettable force, a catalyst for change and a religious leader who is sincere about his faith and his purpose." These words of the black man who touts change and claims to be a uniter of all people?

Mr. Bayh, raising the point is reasonable; you are still, however, losing the point. The fear-mongering is the sleeping children, which people rightly object to. We don't want to vote for people with such a low opinion of us. (I'm reminded of Clinton's recent interview in which she claimed, straight-faced, that last April she foresaw it would come down to her and Obama in Texas, and they needed to start planning for Texas--the transparent lies.)
Obama is the one I want answering the phone.

Wolfson, Hillary's advisor, needs to paint Obama as the same as Hillary. Actually, the are quite different. Hillary has been very pro-military, see some of her history here:
http://backpedals.blogspot.com/2008/03/hillary-military-votes.html
She voted for Iran, having not learned from Iraq (the only Democratic to do so).
She voted against the Iraq funding bill that tied funds to political progress (the ONLY DEMOCRAT to do so, along with only 13 other Republicans).
She voted for cluster bombing.

She does not oppose torture.

YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT:-)
If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..
You Might Be An Idiot!
If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

I hope the Obama campaign jumps on the video clip (2004?) of Bill Clinton promoting John Kerry's campaign. He tells the audience that the opponents are trying to create fear [about world affairs] then he says, quote, "You better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope," HA HA Thanks Bill, for supporting Obama [again] (look it up on YouTube)

HERE IS A QUOTE FROM MICHELLE OBAMA FROM http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/JB26Aa01.html
Michelle Obama speaks with greater warmth of her mother-in-law than of her husband. "She was kind of a dreamer, his mother," Michelle Obama was quoted in the January 25 Boston Globe. "She wanted the world to be open to her and her children. And as a result of her naivete, sometimes they lived on food stamps, because sometimes dreams don't pay the rent.

I always hear this stuff about Hillary's 35 years of experience. I know what she did for 8 of her last 35 and that qualifies her how? She knows the White House maids. I also know she voted for the war authorization without reading the intelligence. She chose instead to rely on what the Bush people told her. Duped by a dope and we want her answering the phone at 3 am? Don't think so.

Here's what causes me fear: I heard on the news this morning (OHIO) that some Ohio poll workers would be able to take voting machines home with them...This is in traditionally Hillary-country. Perhaps Ohio will end up with the same results as New York City, when 80 precincts reported "0" votes for Obama, then later apologized....

Senator Clinton, who has served only one full term (6yrs.), and another year campaigning, has managed to author and pass into law, (20) twenty pieces of legislation in her first six years.
These bills can be found on the website of the Library of Congress (www.thomas.loc.gov), but to save you trouble, I'll post them here for you.
1. Establish the Kate Mullany National Historic Site.
2. Support the goals and ideals of Better Hearing and Speech Month.
3. Recognize the Ellis Island Medal of Hon
4. Name courthouse after Thurgood Marshall.
5. Name courthouse after James L. Watson.
6. Name post office after Jonn A. O'Shea.
7. Designate Aug. 7, 2003, as National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
8. Support the goals and ideals of National Purple Heart Recognition Day.
9. Honor the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton on the bicentennial of his death.
10. Congratulate the Syracuse Univ. Orange Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
11. Congratulate the Le Moyne College Dolphins Men's Lacrosse Team on winning the championship.
12. Establish the 225th Anniversary of the American Revolution Commemorative Program.
13. Name post office after Sergeant Riayan A. Tejeda.
14. Honor Shirley Chisholm for her service to the nation and express condolences on her death.
15. Honor John J. Downing, Brian Fahey, and Harry Ford, firefighters who lost their lives on duty.
Only five of Clinton's bills are more substantive:
16. Extend period of unemployment assistance to victims of 9/11.
17. Pay for city projects in response to 9/11
18. Assist landmine victims in other countries.
19. Assist family caregivers in accessing affordable respite care.
20. Designate part of the National Forest System in Puerto Rico as protected in the wilderness preservation system.
There you have it-the facts straight from the Senate Record.
Now, I would post those of Obama's, but the list is too substantive, so I'll mainly categorize.
During the first (8) eight years of his elected service he sponsored over 820 bills. He introduced:
233 regarding healthcare reform,
125 on poverty and public assistance,
112 crime fighting bills,
97 economic bills,
60 human rights and anti-discrimination bills,
21 ethics reform bills,
15 gun control,
6 veterans affairs and many others.
His first year in the U.S. Senate, he authored 152 bills and co-sponsored another 427. These inculded:
**the Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006 (became law),
**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act, (became law),
**The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act, passed the Senate,
**The 2007 Government Ethics Bill, (became law),
**The Protection Against Excessive Executive Compensation Bill, (In committee), and many more.

Jack Smith - forget about the "might be" - you are an idiot if you believe that Bill Clinton had anything to do with the economic expansion that took place during the 90's. He was too busy using Monica as a humidor. You probably believe Al Gore invented the internet as well. What a fool.

Hillary is counting every year of experience since she graduated from Yale Law School. What an overstatement. The majority of her experience came from working at a corporate law firm. Being First Lady is why she feels entitled to be President of the US. She hasn't even completed her second term as a US senator.
If she hadn't been married to Bill Clinton, would she be running for President now? Absolutely not. Get real.

Rockefeller says Obama best for U.S.

By Tom Searls
Staff writer
Sen. Jay Rockefeller endorsed Barack Obama's candidacy for president on Friday, calling the Illinois senator the best candidate on national security issues.
"Barack Obama is the most qualified person - Democrat or Republican - to lead our country in the face of enormous challenges: the very real threat of terrorism, economic uncertainty, and instability at home and abroad," said Rockefeller, D-W.Va. and the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

You might be an idiot if the only reason you can think of Hilary Clinton being president is her husband. As much as I would love to see Bill as the first lady, Obama brings the country together, Clinton seems to be tearing it apart.
When you will do anything to win no matter how low its somewhat depressing and the last person I want is another president who things that they are right and everyone in the whole world is wrong. Maybe she should run under the republican ticket, pro military, pro special interest, and im sure shes anti cigar.

Posted by: Louise | March 2, 2008 11:40 AM
Nice try, Louise.
But here's what I FEEL you're arguing.
"Obama's campaign is about race. You shouldn't support him because he doesn't support MY race's concerns."
It's the same racial duplicity that whites play.
Frankly, I don't believe Obama will win in November.
I believe the millions of people who call themselves Democrats and voted for Hillary will vote for McCain - a Republican. They will say it is because of McCain's policies which are no different than the Bush policies Hillary has been attacking for the past 14 months.
Jews who have voted overwhelmingly for Democrats will also turn on Obama despite the fact that blacks overwhelmingly voted for Gore-Lieberman.
Why?
Jews are all about THEIR issue - Israel. They are NOT about the USA, they are all about the State of Israel.
But let a black man run for a legitimate campaign for president and they use the white man's argument, complaining that candidate "Black" is only concerned about black issues and black people like Farrakhan, never once recognizing the hypocrisy of the argument.
It happened to Jesse Jackson in the '80s. Bill Clinton was so confident in the white man's hypocrisy that he brought up Jackson's campaign in dismissing Obama's victory in South Carolina.
I am pleased that Obama has run such an effective campaign. Not because I think he will ultimately win the presidency, but because his success has shown the ugly underpinnings of people like Louise.
If Obama wins the Democratic nomination, I expect to see at least half of the white Democrats running to the Republicans. It will be reminiscent of the white flight from the Democratic party in the aftermath of Harold Washington's primary victory in the '80s.
In that case, Washington may have carried the Jewish vote. But then again, Chicago doesn't have a foreign policy on the only issue that matters to people like Louise. No, not the well-being of our beloved United States of America, but the well-being of the State of Israel.

I counted no less than four references to Bill Clinton's "accomplishments" in jacksmith's "you might be an idiot" tirade - plus a reference to Hillary being at Bill's "right hand" during his eight years in the White House and a statement that we would have "the experience and expertise of two master politicians" on our side should she be elected.
First of all, by jacksmith's logic, any wife would be qualified for her husband's job based on HIS acomplishments. Secondly, if Hillary was at Bill's "right hand"during his eight years in office, where was she when Monica was hanging out in the Oval Office? And if we bristled at the unconstitutional idea of a "co-president" when Bill was running for the most powerful leadership position in the free world, why does jacksmith feel this concept is a positive when Hillary is seeking the job?
Me thinks jacksmith is a sexist in liberal clothing. I see no mention of her acomplishments in his inane rant - only Bill's. The insinuation that the best reasons to vote for Hillary is because of what her husband has done is an affront to women everywhere, whether they support Hillary in her ambitions or not. To suggest that her policies and decisions would be identical to his is an insult to her intelligence and her ability to think for herself.
To those who think these are the best reasons to vote for Hillary: perhaps it would be wise to rethink your position.

Some 80% of Americans gave into Bush's fear mongering and agreed with the Iraq invasion, turned away when news of shameful torture was committed to individuals who didn't have a day in court. I let my fear get the best of me. We as a nation let our fear get the best of us and gave way too much power to Bush/Cheney/Rove.
It's time to overcome our fears and use our heads and hearts to rebuild America.
Have you ever stopped to ask yourself what the hell was the objective of the Iraq war? It was to disarm weapons of mass distruction that never existed and that many voices have come forth to say that we were mislead, that Bush knew we were mislead but he is a war monger and he preyed on our fears. Almost 4 thousand of our finest have been killed, and for what purpose? We will have spent trillions on war instead of rebuilding America. The region is definitively less stable. Iran has been emboldened.
Clinton is a pathetic, shameful, desperate fear mongerer, no better than Bush.
People, let your brains and your heart guide you, not your fear. The best person to answer that call is the one with the level head and the sound judgement. Clinton is an unbalanced woman with horrible judgement. McCain has post traumatic stress of the worst kind from being a prisoner of the vietcong. Obama has the judgement and the steadfastness to lead us out of this Iraq hell.
Posted by: Ann B. | March 2, 2008 4:10 PM
Obama gets props for being against the war in Iraq based on a speech he gave while serving as an Illinois State Senator when he had NO power to make a difference on that issue.
In 2003, Obama was an Illinois State Senator and never spoke out against Mayor Daley's illegal destruction of Meigs Field, where fully load C-130s could land in case of a disaster in downtown Chicago.
Guess those Tuskegee Airmen and their aviation program at Meigs primarily benefiting young urban African Americans ages 7-17 wasn't as important as not stepping on Daley's toes (Cause Axelrod wouldn't be helping Obama if Obama wasn't a friend of Daley's.)
In the Meigs situation Obama had some authority to do something. And he did nothing.
Obama says he will meet with international dictators and yet Obama doesn't have the ba**s to stand up to Daley.
I hope voters in Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island all understand that Obama is all hat and NO cattle.

To Jacksmith et al:
Short of being first lady, Hillary Clinton has less experience in elected office than Barack Obama. Period. I love how she lumps earning fat cash with public service. It's all the same, right? Being next to someone who makes decisions...that qualifies as "presidential," right? Thirty-five years. Utter nonsense. Four more years of Clinton-Bush. Equally nonsense. Obama 2008!

Hillary is relentless and heartless. Relentless in playing the same old dirty tear-down politics. Heartless in voting for a war that she knew was wrong because she had her eye on the prize. She was not simply showing bad judgment then; she was showing her lust for power. The prize is the Presidency of the most powerful country in the world. Her lust for power has resulted in the deaths of thousands of our brave men and women and of innocent civilians and in the near bankrupt condition of our nation. It may be that she will win against Obama because of her fear mongering and war mongering, and the Clinton dynasty will once again make money for themselves and their wealthy supporters in the WH. But I for one will not vote for the Clintons in November, and many of the younger and newer Democratic voters will be, like me, registering independent for the next decade and more. This will be the Clinton legacy, a relentless and heartless empty victory.

Clinton's ad didn't say that Obama wasn't qualified, or that he would destroy the country on answering that phone. Her ad just raised the issue.
Maybe Clinton thinks that the voters should be reminded that there are more serious issues to be considered by voters than how charming and eloquent the candidates are, which is what the press is focused on.
Obama successfully wasted weeks on this faux debate over NAFTA, which, if you know anything about the pace of globalization over the last 12 years, is a ridiculous thing for him to be allowed to focus debate on (has he been in a coma since the rise of China manufacturing and outsourcing of jobs to India????).
There's nothing wrong with Clinton reminding us that there are security issues, too. She had to force the debate on MSNBC to spend some time on health care. Her commercial reminds us there are terrorists targeting the U.S. If she didn't do these things, all of the immature, Obama-infatuated media focus would be Obama-centric: Obama's nagging about NAFTA and endless discussions about how charming Obama is.

Mr. Jack Smith It was great. The Clintons are very protective of USA, they now how to improve the economy, and allow the Arm Forces to do their job, that's how it should be. She is very pro military, Mr. Obamas wasn't in the senate to vote for the Iraq war. Given the information given to Senator Clinton and the fear those weapons will fall in the hands of the enemy she voted to defend this country.

100 REASONS TO VOTE FOR HILLARY
VOTE FOR EXPERIENCE NOT JUST TALK
100 REASONS TO SUPPORT HILLARY
Reason #1 to support Hillary:
In Arkansas she was instrumental in straightening out their school system - taking it from one of the worst systems to a role model used by other troubled schools on how to improve public education.
Reason #2 to support Hillary:
In 2006, she led the fight to kill the anti-gay Republican constitutional amendment that for the first time would have added laws to the Constitution that would INCREASE discrimination
Reason #3 to support Hillary:
After being pummeled by the public for trying to pass Universal Health care while she was First Lady, she dusted herself off and in 1997, led a federal effort that provided insurance support for children whose parents were unable to provide them with health coverage.

Tony Rezko was obviously in trouble. He was a defendant in at least a dozen lawsuits, federal investigators in Chicago were poking around, and his name was in newspaper stories about corruption and fraud.
None of that stopped Rezko, a politically connected developer, and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., from completing real estate deals a few years ago that resulted in the Obamas obtaining their dream house and the Rezkos buying an empty lot next door.
Nearly three years later, fallout from Obama's relationship with Rezko, who raised more than $150,000 for Obama's campaigns, continue to dog Obama on the presidential campaign trail. That distraction promises to linger as Rezko goes on trial on corruption charges starting Monday.
Obama, a Democrat, is not part of the case against Rezko, who is accused of shaking down companies seeking business with the state of Illinois. Obama has conceded it was a mistake to bring Rezko into his personal real estate dealings, although he has insisted there was nothing unusual about the developer deciding to buy a sought-after lot in an upscale neighborhood. But a review of court records, including new details of Rezko's finances that have emerged recently, show that the lot purchase occurred as he was being pursued by creditors seeking more than $10 million, deepening the mystery of why he would plunge into a real estate investment whose biggest beneficiary appears to have been Obama.
Dodging creditors
As Obama and Rezko were completing the property purchases in June 2005, Rezko was fighting to keep lenders and investors at bay over defaulted loans and failing business ventures. But he sidestepped that financial dragnet by arranging for the land to be purchased in his wife's name, making it the only property she owned by herself, according to land records.
As a result, when Obama and his wife, Michelle, bought a portion of the land from Rezko seven months later to widen their yard, the money they paid was beyond the reach of Rezko's creditors, including one conducting a court-ordered hunt for his assets to recover a $3.5 million debt.
Two lawyers involved in the civil litigation against Rezko said they believed that the property was subject to possible seizure on the premise that Rezko had been trying to hide behind his wife, Rita, who had little money of her own to complete the $625,000 purchase.
The lawyers, both of whom requested anonymity because they did not have their clients' permission to speak about the cases, said there was little purpose in pursuing it because the legal costs would have outweighed the value of the property, which was encumbered by a $500,000 mortgage.
Lawyers representing Rezko in the civil litigation declined to comment.
When the property deals first surfaced in late 2006, Obama said he had done nothing wrong. In a statement at the time he also said: "It was a mistake to have been engaged with him at all in this or any other personal business dealing that would allow him, or anyone else, to believe that he had done me a favor."
Obama's campaign emphasized on Saturday that the criminal proceeding against Rezko "is not a case about Sen. Obama."
The statement added: "Sen. Obama knew Tony Rezko for two decades in very different circumstances, none of which involve the actions with which Rezko has been charged."
The fuller picture of Rezko's financial maneuverings emerged from an examination of civil suits in state and federal courts, as well as newly filed documents in his criminal case.
Ties to governor
Rezko, a longtime confidante and fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, has pleaded not guilty to charges of extorting campaign contributions and payoffs from companies looking to do business with the Blagojevich administration.
Obama's name is likely to surface during the trial, if only because $10,000 of the money Rezko is accused of extorting wound up in Obama's 2004 Senate campaign. There is nothing to indicate that Obama did any favors for Rezko, but there is ample evidence that Rezko did favors for Obama.
The two men met in the early 1990s when Rezko tried to hire Obama to work on his low-income housing developments. When Obama turned to politics, Rezko was an early supporter and fundraiser. Rezko also stepped in when Obama, a newly elected U.S. senator, and his family found a Georgian mansion for sale in the Kenwood section of Chicago.
When the transactions were first reported, Obama said only that he had asked Rezko, as a developer, whether he thought the house was worth buying. But last month, Obama's campaign staff said the senator also recalled walking around the house and the adjacent lot with Rezko.
Obama has said he did not know why Rezko decided to buy the lot. Business associates of Rezko said he gave various explanations, among them that he wanted to help the Obamas expand their backyard and that he thought it would be a good investment to own a lot next to a prominent politician. But Rezko's involvement was important because the owners of the house and the lot had stipulated that neither could be sold unless a deal for the other closed on the same day.
Some critics say that given Obama's long-time emphasis on ethics, it is puzzling that he would have been so involved with the Rezkos on the house and lot deals after questions had begun to crop up about Rezko's political and business activities.
For at least two years before the property purchases, news articles had raised questions about Rezko's influence over state appointments and contracts. There also had been reports that the FBI was investigating allegations of a shakedown scheme involving a state hospital board to which Rezko had suggested appointments.
Also, Chicago officials had announced that they were investigating whether a company partly owned by Rezko had won public contracts by posing as a minority business.
As a result, said Jay Stewart, executive director of the Better Government Association in Chicago, Obama "should have been on high alert."
Shaky finances
In addition, although Rezko enjoyed a reputation as a man of means, with a Mediterranean-style mansion, a sprawling chain of fast-food businesses and frequent multimillion-dollar real estate deals, the court records show, he was also sinking in financial quicksand.
Federal prosecutors recently filed papers saying Rezko had trouble paying creditors for years. At least 12 lawsuits had been filed against Rezko and his businesses from November 2002 to January 2005, including one by GE Commercial Finance Corp., which had extended more than $5 million in loans for Rezko's pizza franchises.
GE obtained a court judgment against Rezko in November 2004 for the $3.5 million it said was outstanding on its loans, but the company put collection efforts on hold during the first half of 2005 as it negotiated with Rezko, court records show. When the Obamas and Rezkos bought their adjacent parcels that June, Rezko's wife, Rita, put down $125,000 in cash and financed the rest with a bank loan.
In October 2005, GE obtained an order allowing the company to begin seizing Rezko's assets. The company's lawyers filed a claim against the Rezkos' home and began issuing subpoenas to banks where Rezko had accounts, finding very little cash. Court records show GE was due to be in court on Jan. 5, 2006, for example, obtaining an order to seize $1,297.39 from one of Rezko's checking accounts.
Less than a week later, Rita Rezko sold a 10-foot wide strip of the empty lot to Obama, for $104,500, so that the senator could widen his side yard.
The Rezkos had little to show for the entire transaction.
Asked by a judge to give an accounting of his and his wife's assets last year after he was indicted, Rezko said his wife had recently sold the remainder of the lot, and that the small profit it generated went back to the buyer to help cover an old debt.
"So, she didn't walk away with any cash?" asked the judge.
"Not one dollar," Rezko replied.

Mack Voters DO realize that Hillary's campaign has degenerated into all insults and nothing positive. You guys just don't get it. We've moved on!!! Voters have more or less made their choice. Seems to me voters have choosen Obama.
Now on to Bonnie. Bonnie, with all due respect to you, and your NEVER ENDING slander of Barack Obama but...
NEXT TIME WRITE A F%CKING BOOK!!! A BIG ONE!!!
Bonnie you can list ad nausea all the reasons YOU think people should vote for Hillary Clinton who is in my opinion a good person.
I'll be the first to admit that there are a great many reasons why Hillary is good for America. She will do great thing in the Senate. THE SENATE!!!
The bottom line is adults make up their own minds, your BOOK is unnecessary!!!
Hillary has had all the time in the world to convince voters. What makes you think your going to accomplish something she couldn't. Maybe YOU should be the one running, since you obviously have no faith in your candidates ability to articulate HER OWN POSITIONS!!! Bonnie I know it's difficult to accept defeat, but it might just be that time. Obama 2008!!!

If you think Senator Hillary Clinton will bring a change from the same, old power and political games in Washington that we have witnessed for way too many years, then there is no changing your mind.
If you think Senator Hillary Clinton has not played the woman card, has not played the victim card, has not played the fear card, and has not played the race card, in her efforts to win, then there is no changing your mind.
If you did not see Senator Hillary Clinton mock Senator Obama's message of hope, but would not believe it even if you saw it, then there is no changing your mind.
Hillary Clinton is a toss up. By her very own behavior and actiosn, she has turned off as many voters as she may have gained during her campaign.
I much prefer the calm, steady, hopeful, inspiring, promising, leadership and integrity offered by Senator Barack Obama.

Why is it that all the Hillary supporters sound like Bush supporters? It is the same drunk the kool-aid crap every time.
Post #1 - Tie Obama to a hated public figure that he has no relation to other than being black.
Post #5 - You might be an idiot if... Isn't this "You might be a redneck if"? Straight from the Bushie propaganda mill
Also, why am I an idiot if I support someone who is against the war in Iraq? Why do Hillary supporters love war so much?
I think it is bad to displace and kill millions of innocents. I am sorry to see that, like Bush and the Republicans, Hillary supporters cannot be counted on to support those who would put a stop to slaughter.
