Obama calls pastor's words 'inflammatory, appalling': The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Sen. Barack Obama is speaking out today on questions surrounding the statements of the longtime and now-retired pastor of his church in Chicago, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The senator is speaking out about "my faith and my church" with a personal blog entry at The Huffington Post.

Wright "has touched off a firestorm,'' Obama acknowledges of the pastor who has spoken forcefully about the role of race in American politics. The longtime member of the Trinity United Church of Christ concedes that some of the old pastor's words are "inflammatory and appalling.''

"Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy,'' Obama writes. "I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.''

Obama, suggesting that Wright's imminent retirement made any talk of leaving the church that has long been home to his family inappropriate, says he looks forward to remaining at the church under the leadership of the new pastor, Rev. Otis Moss III. "And while Rev. Wright's statements have pained and angered me,'' he writes, "I believe that Americans will judge me not on the basis of what someone else said, but on the basis of who I am and what I believe in; on my values, judgment and experience to be President of the United States.''

See the rest of the senator's statement at HuffPost:

CBN.com's The Brody File says the senator sent the same statement to the Christian news Web-site. David Brody offers some thoughts on it there.

Obama "managed not to trash Wright or his Church in the process, which I’m sure is very important to him,'' Brody writes. "At the same time he tried to distance himself from this idea that Wright was any sort of 'political advisor.'''

Barack Obama blogs exclusively on The Huffington Post regarding his relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

The pastor of my church, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who recently preached his last sermon and is in the process of retiring, has touched off a firestorm over the last few days. He's drawn attention as the result of some inflammatory and appalling remarks he made about our country, our politics, and my political opponents.

Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy. I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue.

Because these particular statements by Rev. Wright are so contrary to my own life and beliefs, a number of people have legitimately raised questions about the nature of my relationship with Rev. Wright and my membership in the church. Let me therefore provide some context.

As I have written about in my books, I first joined Trinity United Church of Christ nearly twenty years ago. I knew Rev. Wright as someone who served this nation with honor as a United States Marine, as a respected biblical scholar, and as someone who taught or lectured at seminaries across the country, from Union Theological Seminary to the University of Chicago. He also led a diverse congregation that was and still is a pillar of the South Side and the entire city of Chicago. It's a congregation that does not merely preach social justice but acts it out each day, through ministries ranging from housing the homeless to reaching out to those with HIV/AIDS.

Most importantly, Rev. Wright preached the gospel of Jesus, a gospel on which I base my life. In other words, he has never been my political advisor; he's been my pastor. And the sermons I heard him preach always related to our obligation to love God and one another, to work on behalf of the poor, and to seek justice at every turn.

The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation. When these statements first came to my attention, it was at the beginning of my presidential campaign. I made it clear at the time that I strongly condemned his comments. But because Rev. Wright was on the verge of retirement, and because of my strong links to the Trinity faith community, where I married my wife and where my daughters were baptized, I did not think it appropriate to leave the church.

Let me repeat what I've said earlier. All of the statements that have been the subject of controversy are ones that I vehemently condemn. They in no way reflect my attitudes and directly contradict my profound love for this country.

With Rev. Wright's retirement and the ascension of my new pastor, Rev. Otis Moss, III, Michelle and I look forward to continuing a relationship with a church that has done so much good. And while Rev. Wright's statements have pained and angered me, I believe that Americans will judge me not on the basis of what someone else said, but on the basis of who I am and what I believe in; on my values, judgment and experience to be President of the United States.

Not good enough obama. You need to get on television and say this. I (we) want to see your face. You are still hiding from the media and the public. You want votes get on Television. It seems you don't like to answer questions this is why you rather have a written statement to the Huffington Post? Come on. Man up.

He'll get a pass...he's a Democrat! Does anyone remember how much grief GWB received for simply visiting Bob Jones University in 2000? This is a perfect example of how the media protects liberals in this country.

Yeah right, how many times did falwell say derogatory things after 9/11 and yet the GOP kept him close, please

This is a non issue, but of course people want anything to try and stick to Obama so they keep throwing

Listen you egnorant people this works both ways. In one day you have managed to prove to the American people what Obama has been trying to do for over one year....that HE IS A CHRISTIAN!!!!!. So what ever happens now you dummies will have to find another fight and stronger ground. The more he answers the issue the more people know he is not a muslim..pretty good.

Karin: Even though you misspelled ignorant you are right. This will prove to the 13% of the US population that is moronic enough to believe Obama is a muslim that he is, in fact, a christian.

And with 6 weeks to go before the next primary this will not have any effect on anything.

I think Obama's statement
is what you would expect
a good, regular guy to do.

Barack Hussein Obama had twenty years to walk away from that "so called church ", but he chose not to. He said he never heard any of these statements before , which i don't believe for a second. This tells me he what he was hearing, wasn't too objection-
able to him. Beware of this huckster he's a wolf in sheeps' clothing

You know it's not like Rev. Wright's statements are new. This is a radical preacher who unflinchingly says "God Damn America" to make a point and that's what he's always been.

Obama's treating this as if it's some momentary issue, but let's be clear: Obama's been having this guy sanction the spiritual life of his family, and presumably he's been taking his daughters to hear Rev. Wright speak their whole lives.

This is not something Obama can dismiss in a day with his usual grin-and-dodge. Obama's made this man a centerpiece of his life and has entrusted his children's spritual care to this man's church. That goes a little deeper than the usual campaign kerfuffle.

"He said he never heard any of these statements before , which i don't believe for a second."

People go to church for a lifetime without realizing their pastor is a child molester or gay. It's not hard to believe that Obama never heard these words of hate uttered from his pastor. Don't be a hater Don.

It's called FREE SPEECH. Good grief there are bigger problems in this country and around the world.

Do attendees of a church in which a pastor is found to be gay or a child molester make them gay or child predators?

Does attending a church where the pastor is found to have hateful feelings make Obama the same way?

The answer in both cases is no.

To suggest otherwise is just illogical.

I don't care what color a person is as long he can do the job. But this proves to me that he's not the man, anyone that comes close to associating themself with people like sharpton or that creep of a pastor should not be a voice of hard working american. Those people make me sick that they are even allowed to be here.Take it from somebody thats emmployed hundreds of people in my career,I have a good sense of who's who.

Others might know but is Wright still connected with the Obama campaign, in any form?

If he is, he shouldn't be.

now, he says that. but what else can he say at this point?he never before said 'inflammatory and appalling' nor condemned them.and this is what rev wright said obama previously said to him:According to the pastor, Mr. Obama then told him, “You can get kind of rough in the sermons, so what we’ve decided is that it’s best for you not to be out there in public.”not one 'inflammatory and appalling' in there. just a 'kind of rough.'he did say "I don't think my church is actually particularly controversial.".and he did let his advisor say wink wink nod nod to canada on nafta.and his then foreign policy advisor, power, did say his campagin statement, of having all our troops out of iraq in 16 months, 'is not true'.and he did say he would "Absolutely' finish out his 6 year senate term.and he did say he would not run for president in 2008.he says a lot. can't say as i know which obama to believe.

"OBAMA SPEAKS"

OBVIOUSLY WE ARE GOING THROUGH TOUGH TIMES AND NEED TO BLAME PLAME.

OBVIOUSLY WE ARE GOING THROUGH BUSH ECONOMICS AND HE "HEARD THE VOICES"

OBVIOUSLY THE GOP WANTS "CHURCH AND STATE" IN AMERICAN POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT.

OBVIOUSLY ALOT OF POLITICIANS GO TO CHURCH AND THEN TO REPRESENT THEIR "STATES" BUT TO BRING CHURCH IN THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE WILL ULTIMATELY LET US KNOW "WHAT THE VOICES SAID" DAYS BEFORE SEPTEMBER 11TH.

IT'S OBAMA'S FAULT.
IT'S OBAMA'S MIDDLE NAME'S FAULT.
IT'S OBAMA'S EARMARKS FAULT.

SO DON'T ASK THE OTHER MAN'S PREACHER MAN WHY HE NEEDS A NEW CAR. OR WHY HE NEEDS LITTLE BOYS. SO DON'T ASK THE PREACHER MAN WHY HE TELLS HIS FOLLOWERS "HUCKABEE" IS THE MAN TO VOTE FOR.

DON'T ASK THE GOVERNMENT TO SEPARATE CHURCH AND STATE. HIS NAME IS OBAMA. HIS MIDDLE INITIAL IS H. LIKE IN PUT A "H" ON YOUR CHEST AND HANDLE IT.

THIS ISN'T GOVERNMENT THIS IS BUSH / CHENEY COUNTRY AND UNTIL WE GET IMMUNITY.

THERE IS NO "CHURCH" IN AMERICA.

THERE IS NO "STATE" IN OUR GOVERNMENT.

TO THE HOLLY ROLLERS OF THE WORLD, VOTE FOR ME, AND I WILL KEEP "CHURCH" AND "STATE" SEPARATE.

WHAT A CONSTITUTIONAL CONCEPT!

Wow, he just reacting now. He should have said indicated long time ago he did not agree with the Rev. I guess pressure sometimes make you react. I hope he can handle being honest and in a pressure situation if he was President of the USA.

Posted by: Nelson L. | March 14, 2008 6:00 PM

Nelson: That's dumb logic, do you really think priests and pastors have gay sex and molest boys in front of their congregates ?
And why would you expose your children to that hate filled rhetoric when their minds are just developing ? Sorry Nelson i don't buy it for a second, but if you want to swallow it "buon appetit".

Anyone who spends an enormous amount of time listening to an individual is influenced by him or her. We tend to associate ourselves in our private, personal lives with those who we desire to be with and in some ways are like ourselves. The fact that Obama has stayed at this church for 20 years listening to Rev. Wright and his preaching worries me. We are not talking about small issues, we are talking about direct opinions regarding the government. This cannot be brushed under the rug. I am neither far left or far right - I am in the middle. But for Obama to now say, he does not agree with Wright is difficult to believe. A minister does not suddenly blurt out a barage like this out of the blue. There were 20 years of sermons, home discussions, etc.... did Obama never see this in this man? If not, I worry about his judgement. I can no longer consider voting for him...

I would almost let his racist comments go as fair when i consider the unfair treatment that the black communities has had to suffer, however his hatred of the Jewish communities doesn't fly. Obama should fire Jeremiah or leave the race for President.

This pastors comments don't come close to the hate and ignorance of ongoing comments by the religious leaders affiliated with the right - Falwell, Robertson, etc. Main difference is its a "crazy black man howling and screaming" and that scares people. And its not ok to say anything bad about America, just about non-whites, gays, liberals, foreigners - particularly the French, and just about anyone who views life differently and whom you decide is destroying the moral fabric of our society and causing Jeebus to punish us. If he had said anything hateful about those people Obama would have seen his numbers go up among a certain demographic.

And consider for a moment where this pastor's comments are coming from, the life he's lived, the pain he's seen, and maybe you'll understand why he's making those comments. Its called empathy, you narrow-minded nitwits.

It was his pastor!!! I mean how many people have crazy pastors but still got their church...My God People, we are allowed to have crazy friends...what is wrong with this country...not for nothing...obama has done nothing in this election but get millions of people excited in the process and willing to vote again...millions...if that is all he does, he gets my vote...because that means he is a real democrat

20 years in this church and Obama knows nothing.....Sort of makes you wonder what kind of President he would be now - doesn't it?

All Obama does his post his disdain on the Huffington for Weirdo Loons Post? Come on!! Very weak, Obama, very weak. This man has just disintegrated giving the nomination to the Queen B. In the last two weeks, Obama has clearly shown he isn't capable to be president. Heck, he hasn't even been a U.S. senator yet. He has proven that he is nothing but the Chicago Democratic hack that he is and the creation of a corrupt far left media that had nothing but a sexual eruption over a far left black candidate.

Obama knew what Wright was saying: he attended his church for 20 years. Even if he wasn't physically present when the ignorant bigot said America invented AIDS or got what it deserved on 911, Obama would have heard about it through the parish grapevine. This explains Michelle's contempt for America--she heard it in church. The saddest thing is the Obamas brought their innocent young children to the "church" to be infected with hatred. This disqualifies Obama. He shouldn't even be a Senator.

Impeach Obama!

**** NOW ****

He's belonged to a racist, anti-white church for over 20 Years!

I still think he's a muslim plant by way of Al-Quaida.

***Think AMERICA!***

Good try, Senator Obama.

What does your church's new pastor believe about political and social issues? Where is that information? Let's have some sort of statement from him for the record!

No doubt your family minister will be your spiritual counselor if you're elected. And, unfortunately, your church leadership seems to be as much about social and political issues as spiritual.

Where are all the voices demanding separation of church and state? If "political" sermons have been preached, doesn't that affect the church's tax-emempt status?

Too bad this has become an issue, but people like Wright and Farrakhan are nowhere on my list of role models -- socially, politically or spiritually.

I am aware that none of us want to believe that America would dare do some of the things that the Pastor so colorfully said, but can anyone validate that they are not true. Are they true or not should be the issue, not that he said them, but did the pastor lie? I will welcome and respect your response after the research.

Pastor Wright said:” We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Wright said. "We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."
In a 2003 sermon, he said blacks should condemn the United States.
"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

One might want to read Robert Parry book “Lost History”, Saving the Ronald Reagan Presidency, It’s about the U S involvement in Drug Traffic. I saw the Book review on C-Span last week.

They also discussed the Iran Contra Affair and Oliver North, The Clintons Scandals –Contra work, Waco being described as a military Invasion on American soil. This was all on C Span March 5th or 6th... Fooling America by Robert Parry another book was discussed. A web site: information@CIAcoverup.com was given also. I have not tried the wed site, so I don’t know if it works. This information, one should be able to find at C3History@cspan.org another web site: consortion news.com
I did not test the web sites, I am coping this from my T V notes for March fifth or sixth 2008

Also there is another book
I recommend reading “ Confession of an Economic Hit Man” by
John Perkins-- one who for 10 years was part of the oil-Halliburton etc. world and
had a “conscience- break down” after 9/11 and decided to tell his
true story.

What we should be more concerned about I repeat: is this information “True”?

But Obama knew a year ago, the Rev Wright words may spell trouble for him. Why did it take so long for him to react? We need a President that can make sound judgement immediately and not a year later. We have had enough of Bush long pauses before he makes a decision.

Obama has to be the greatest and best con man that has come along in the history of this country. Don't get me wrong. He is good at what he does. He is better than President Clinton and that's saying a lot. How can the American people trust this con man to be the President of the United States? He will have his hand on the atomis bomb. He can sell our enemies all of our secrets. He is dangerous. He doesn't deserve to be the President. He is carring too much baggage. McCain is not the greatest, but we have no choice. Do you want a possible traitor or a war hero to be the President of the United States? I fought for my Country and a lot of other Americans fought and died for our Country. If Obama is elected it would be an insult to every serviceman who served our Country.

Dr. Wright's comments reflect the reality of how America has treated its Black citizens for 400 years. Obama is running for President, not Dr. Wright. Dr. Wright brings America's racism front and center and too many whites are still in denial about this country's racist past (and its racist present).

If this sermon came about early in Obama's presidential campaign, why is he, only now, repudiating what the narrow-minded, anti-white pastor shouted back then? Obama can deny ever hearing such comments from his long-time spiritual advisor-pastor, but I've heard 'hellfire and brimstone' preachers before. They don't preach 'love thy neighbor' one day and turn into what I saw of Obama's pastor the next. His listeners were agreeing with him and I'm sure they had heard it all before. Otherwise, they would have been shocked into silence. Obama has attended this church for 20 years. Go to their website; I did. White people are not welcome or allowed to attend, and they also say that they support Africa and Africans. I didn't see any support for me or you, unless you're black. Just wait until Obama gets into the Oval Office and we'll all see his true colors...he can't keep his true self hid forever. He is trying so hard to remain on his self-made 'holier than thou' pedestal. I would rather he would show his true self now, so there won't be any surprises...such as we witnessed from GWB. As far as being Christian, I don't care; how do we know anyway? GWB still claims to be a model Christian, and what a false claim. We cannot know about Obama's Christianity either.

Sen. Obama's words are disingeneous at best. He and Jeremiah Wright have been very very tight for over 20 years. Are we to believe that he *never* heard about the speech he gave justifying the 9/11 attacks; of Wright's anti-semitism and hate speech ? Obama himself says he is a frequent church goer.
Are we to believe he never heard from othe rpeople t the church about his sermons? That he never read them?
The Audacity of Hope was one of Wright's sermons and he used it for his book.
His relationship with Wright (he says over and over that he has always been his "savior" and his "sounding board" ) defies any veracity of Obama's words. He *knew* Wright was tight with Farrakhan.

Sen. Obama talks about Aids but how about Jeremiah Wright's claim that the
"government created AIDS to infect and kill black people"

Does Sen. Obama agree with this?

And here is what is worst even if you were to accept for a second what Obama says here:

Jeremiah Wright has an official role on the Obama campaign. As of last December J.Wright was listed as a national leader of the Obama campaign's "African American Religious Leadership
Committee." Wright played a *political* role. Wright had a post in
Obama's political campaign *despite* everything he had said.

In 2006, Obama and wife donated $22,500 to Wright's church : that was
single largest charitable donation Obama has ever made.
Jeremiah A. Wright gave the awful sermon at the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel in Washington on Jan. 15, 2006 !

Too late now Sen. Obama to invent all these preposterous excuses. That Jeremiah Wright is
retiring is irrelevant to your association and very very close relationship to him
for more than 20 years.

Wright is not "like an uncle" "trying to be provocative". Sen Obama; Wright is an anti-semite and a bigot and you have stay by his side and his church for over 20 years despite this.

Sen. Obama's association to him is and has always been appalling no matter
how he trries to spin it now.

Obama has supported the racist hate monger Wright for 23 years. Obama's response today means nothing. Obama's opportunity to demonstrate he didn't agree with Wright was 23 years ago.

But Obama supported the hate of Wright all these years because he clearly agreed with him. There's no other way anyone could sit in the church, listen to his hateful rants and donate money to him year after year.

Now Obama wants to be president. I don't think so, my racist pal and con man Obama.

From Trinity Church of Christ's website, the portal of which includes an African landscape (?) overlaid by an outline of the continent :
"We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community."
There have been recent updates to the site including YouTube videos making a case for the church's all-inclusive, loving spirit. Still, they boast about being a Black congregation. I don't care if they are green, but boasting about your race doesn't sound inclusive to me.
They have removed the link to their publication "The Trumpet" which included a 4th Quarter 2007 article idolizing Louis Farrakhan. Whether the beliefs of the their new pastor differ from Wright's and Farrakhan's remains to be seen.
It is impossible to know for sure what their stand is on anything as verbal and textual messages seem at odds. At least they are marketing savvy and have figured out some of what "shouldn't" be on their public website.

Equally disturbing was watching Obama's fellow parishioners in the church clap, cheer and cavort with delight in response to Wright's vile, hate-filled sermons. These are the people Obama has chosen to associate himself with for nearly 25 years. Unbelievable.

Obama sat in Wright's church for 20+ years also presumably applauding and cheering his hate filled sermons. That kind of racism clearly doesn't bother the false prophet Obama at all for him to have stayed in the church. If he disagreed with Wright's views, he would have left the church decades ago. But he stayed.

Goodbye and good riddance Mr. Obama.

Now we know where Michelle Obama learned how to rant.

Barack Obama is such a sellout. He developed a relationship with Jeremiah Wright and has been well aware of Wright's ideology. In fact, he probably applauded his sermons. Obama is giving into pressure. How much more will he sell his soul in exchange for political victory? Obama is a joke.

With each passing day, the magic of Saint Obama is washing away and being replaced with the reality of a smug, smirking, racist con man.

Rev Wright a Marine? Good enough for me -- he's earned the right to speak his mind. Especially, on the fact that America has a poor record on the treatment of minorities.

All of these right winged "Christians" should reject and denounce all of their religious leaders that condemn homosexuals (all people are treated as equal) and people who practice faiths outside of Christianity -- Ideals that are contrary to our constitution.

Religion has no place in politics!

Funny to listen to all the rants of the white folk throwing up their arms in indignation that they are called out on the way things have been and are.

I'm not one to say that Wright's sermons will make anything better for the black people, but they do have a case just as the Jews did in Old Testament times.

So, I say swallow your indignation (that goes for everyone), say an amen, and continue down the road to understanding among all people.

It is funny to see liberals trying to explain this away. It was uproarious to hear the Air America lefties actually scared by these revelations.

The videotape is out there. It will make Kerry's Swiftboat scandal or Dukakis" Willie Horton scandal seem tame by comparison.

Leftists talk to each other too much. They have no idea as to how this will offend middle America.

Democrats, please, please, nominate this Chicago pol.

P.S. More revelations about Barack Obama's involvement with his Syrian money man on the front page of the Chicago Tribune today.

Isn't guilt by association un-American? What this shows is the tremendous problem with confusing church with state. Neither Obama nor any other candidate would not go through this charade if you bumpkins were not so caught up in witchcraft. But worse, it shows that this society is truly racist, and is looking for anything to sight as reason for not voting for a black candidate.

The Senator will be just fine and he has answered all the questions to the satisfaction of all the sane people, those of you inclined to view the world from a bent will never be satisfied.

Be honest, many of you heaping never have been and never would support the man.

I am an African American who is very proud to say that I am a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. I have been a member for 30 years.

I was in church that Sunday after 9/11. Our church seats about 8,000 people and we have 3 services; 7:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Non-blacks do attend our church. However, we are located in a predominantly African-American neighborhood.

On that Sunday people were standing against the wall and in the halls. People were still scared and shocked by what happened. Rev Wright's words may seem rascist to people who look at this world through rose colored glasses. You are the same people who think that the USA is the superior country and for some of you that white america is the superior race. That is sad.

The United States of America became a powerful nation on the backs of free labor; slavery. 400 years later the effects of that, Jim Crow laws and discrimination still exist. You can see it in the disparity between our public schools and the widening gap in this country between the haves and have nots.

I am well educated. I have a BS in Accounting for the Univesity of IL and I have an MBA from Northwestern University. However, in this country the fact that I am not white and male will limit my opportunites. This is not racist. This is the truth.

Trinity United Church of Christ promotes the positiveness of being black in this country because everyday we see images that say otherwise. White churches don't have to do that because being white in this country is already seen as being a plus.

You might not agree with what Rev. Wright said. I rarely agree with anyone 100% of the time. However, the USA has not been an innocent. It has not been "right" all of the time. The minute someone points that out they are seen as being un-American.

Up until this truth about the Rev Wright- Farrakhan-Obama link came out, that Obama is working so hard to deny, Obama never was all that he appeared to be.

Obama just loves being adored in the spotlight- he loves giving speeches.

His speeches are very very manipulative- he is like a magnet for the emotions of many naive youth and idealistic good-hearted folks who are attracted to his fake act, to his studied preaching cadence and style.

Obama is riding on the coattails of the quotations of great men and on slogans and empty promises.

Now we know Obama and his wife's spiritual community and his Campaign spiritual advisor are hate-filled,anti-semitic and anti- American people. Not exactly the picture Obama paints.....

Obama and his wife gave $22,500. - the largest amount of money they have donated to any charity in 2006, all to support the Rev Wright's anti-American, anti-semitic, hate-filled church.

$22,500 is a lot of money to donate to something you claim you do not agree with.

25 + years is a long time to spend listening to a preacher you now claim you do not agree with.

The virulent anti-American views expressed by Rev Wright explain the origin of Michele Obama's strongly anti-American beliefs and statements- she has been listening and agreeing and clapping along with everyone in Rev Wright's church as he blames AIDs and 9/11 on the US government.

Obama is clearly a liar...he had to have known what the Rev Wright was preaching .....25 years in the man's church? Obama's claim that he never heard any of Rev. Wright's anti-American or anti-semitic statements is simply incredible.
Who does Obama think he is kidding? Obama must believe the American people are really stupid to swallow this obvious lie.

Why did Obama wait so very long - over a year after his Presidential campaign began - before Obama took any action to create even the appearance of distance between himself and the Rev Wright's politics? Beause Obama did not want to separate himself from his long time preacher, Obama did not want to lose
his true spiritual advisor. What does this behavior tell us say about Obama??

The shocking truth is Obama funds and enables Rev Wright's ability to preach hate-filled anti-American garbage.

Obama should not be elected again to any office or appointed to any position of importance anywhere again in this great country. Obama is a very dangerous person.

The right-wing evangelicals/fundamentalists use hate speech all the time and are not excoriated by the news, unfortunately. The problem with Barack Obama is his naivete about his long-time relationship with Rev. Wright and Obama's not thinking that it could reflect on him as a Presidential nominee. This is a problem and does reflect on his "judgment" ability issue. I say to Obama and his campaign: "Welcome to Club Clinton"----and the vast right-wing. He was blind about his being vetted and being vetted rabidly. I for one do not want anyone in the White House who underestimates intentions of other country's political leaders. Obama is not ready to lead our country. He does have poor judgment.

Shame on you Obama and shame on CNN CBS ABC Nightline MSNBC for trying to fool Americans...Read below and think...

According to The Book of Revelations the anti-christ is:

The anti-christ will be a man, in his 40s, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal....the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything.

"He who owns the youth owns the future." - Adolf Hitler

Combine the fact he went after the youth vote with an almost identical speaking style and the hatred of the "rich white man" that his mentor preaches... yes America should be concerned.

Obama just made a huge mistake. By stating that he was not aware of Wrights comments before yesterday and that he would have quit the church if he new. It is only a matter of time before somone proves that Obama knew exactly what Wright had been saying all along and that he was in the church for these types of statements. That was a huge mistake and it may even cost him the nomination. Bad move. If he is proven a liar he will most likely have to resign from running for president. Does anyone really believe that he had no idea that Wright had said these things? Come on man how many stories have been written about it the last year.

The Realist bis right!

Barack = 6

Hussei = 6

NObama = 6

The anti-christ is here!

Paulo

Funny to listen to all the rants of the white folk throwing up their arms in indignation that they are called out on the way things have been and are.
I'm not one to say that Wright's sermons will make anything better for the black people, but they do have a case just as the Jews did in Old Testament times.
So, I say swallow your indignation (that goes for everyone), say an amen, and continue down the road to understanding among all people.

Spoken like a true bigot D.D., there's a opening for a pastor on the south side , sounds like it would be a good fit for you.

The Realist-

"The anti-christ will be a man, in his 40s," haven't men in their forties been the leaders of societies since time immemorial? If the anti-christ were a world leader, what are the odds that he's not a white man in his 40's?

"who will deceive the nations with persuasive language," umm, how else do you think he rose to power?

"and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal...." the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything."

Sounds like George W Bush to me, dingus. Could be Bill Clinton, no? Or maybe JFK was the anti-christ but the good ol' boys at CIA took care of that. Teddy Roosevelt?

You are a total crackpot, just like this guy: http://www.bushisantichrist.com/

Okay..

Barrack HUSSEIN Obama...is talking about unity in HIS HARD times.

He has done nothing to prove that HE DOES NOT believe in GOD DAMN AMERICA. It is making a lot os sense why, no american flag on his lapel, no appreciation of the Star Spangled Banner.

I mentioned that he was a wolf in lamb's clothing on several other blogs because.. he was TOO GOOD to be true. While I was not a Clinton hater, I was neutral on Obama.. except for his name of Barach HUSSEIN Obama. Then I read that most of his youth he was named Barry.

Then he meets Pastor Wright who becomes his mentor/uncle and Obama becomes a CHRISTIAN. (note he does not mention his extremmist CCC church membership, thus AVOIDING THAT ISSUE.)

If this pastor has so much influence on
HUSSEIN Obama, that his comments give Hussein the title and purpose of his BOOK. Then OBAMA has a very high regard for the PASTOR.

It is about beliefs. HOPE, UNITY.

Yeah, right. We have had eight years of experience with another GOD of a President. Imagine giving a anti-american control of the United States. The Black Muslim world is already to DANCE IN THE STREETS if that happens.

Black American and the DNC have groomed Barack HUSSEIN Obama for
his run as the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES. One article I read.. stated "all we need is a Black Harvard Graduate to win the election.'

What about one that has hidden resentment against America because he is bi-racial. WE already know that Michele has hidden resentment against How she has been treated in America. So now we have insight into Barack HUSSEIN Obams, religious teachings and HOW his wife feels about America... TWO VERY POWERFUL INFLUENCES on an individuals character makeup.

Proves that his conversion to Christian faith was a necessary evil and he would still be muslim otherwise. His no vote for war clearly defined by speech made by Uncle J. He is a politician that will do and say anything to get into the chair of power. People need to wake up. Isn't it BS that we have to find this stuff out after alternatives have been counted out. No wonder we end up with the trash to run this country. We allow money to sponser it. Also the media has been softshoeing this election just to avoid being critized as raciest or not PC. I for one am feed up with the way we select any of our leaders and how they prove over and over again that they are not to be trusted.

So, after 20 years of bigoted speech, Obama could not figure it out. I guess he agreed with it. Only when it gets on TV does he do a back-step shuffle.
For the first time in my life, I am proud of America, If they reject this bafoon and imposter, and send him and his wife back to Chicago.

I am fairly new to the voting process. I voted in the last election. Bush was not my choice. I voted this year for Obama. Do I believe he is a con man? Heck no! The deal with his pastor of 20 years is the only downside that I have heard besides lack of experience. Being an African American female raised in the church, I have become accostumed to sticking to my pastor. You cant change the minds and hearts of people. That may be the pastors views, but is it Obama's views? The man is Bi-Racial for christ sake! He is a breath of fresh air. Out of Hillary and McCain, I would be undecided. What worse can Obama do that our great Bush hasn't? The man is a "genious" as complimented by Oprah. It seems as if all Politicians are crooked. If Obama is, he wont be the first and he definantly wont be the last. I dont know, no one knows for certain. What I do know is that I have a feeling of responsibility when this man speaks. I was among the group of young people who felt like my vote didn't count. I know now that in order to have a voice, you have to show up. Barack has showed up, if elected he will show out for everyone. All races. He is not winning delegates and "states" by default. His presence alone is powerful. If he uses that power in the presidency.... Gosh! If he dosent, it will be no different than any other republican on the map. So I vote for Obama. This is my right and my choice. More power to those who feel differently. McCain seems to be a good man. A war hero. But I dont feel a connection when he speaks. I ultimatley feel dead inside. When Hillary speaks, I dont know what to feel. Oh but when Barack hits the stage, I am focused and hopeful of what is to become of our country and the world alone. So Rock on BO, you have my vote all the way!

Dear UCC Church Officers:
It is difficult to see how a Harvard Grad "didn't know"? !
But let's forget Obama's comments on whether or not he knew for a second. He is toast. Had my vote. Lost my vote.

For UCC to defend Pastor Wright's comments is outrageous as the racist comments the Pastor has made. Not once. Not twice…who knows how many times…so many examples on You Tube alone. The Pastor's comments are very offensive, divisive and sickening and undermine any of the good works he or his congregation have done.

Please explain to me how your church can support this Pastor and his congregation for giving a lifetime achievement award to Farrakhan and the Pastor's highly inflamatory racist remarks?
