The controversy over the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's most incendiary remarks "has not hurt'' Sen. Barack Obama's campaign for president nationally, a Washington-based pollster says.
"Obama’s lead over Hillary Clinton remains as wide as it was in late February,'' says Andrew Kohut, president of the Pew Research Center, and "both Obama and Clinton continue to run slightly ahead of McCain in a general election matchup.''
While the Gallup Poll and others portray a dead heat between Obama and Clinton among Democrats nationally, this poll run March 19-22 finds 49 percent of Democrats surveyed supporting Obama, 39 percent Clinton
"The new polling suggests that the Wright affair has not hurt Obama’s standing, in part because his response to the controversy has been viewed positively by voters who favor him over Clinton,'' Kohut reports.
"Obama’s handling of the Wright controversy also won a favorable response from a substantial proportion of Clinton supporters, and even a third of Republican voters.''
Read more below, and see the Pew poll here.
The poll explored the perceptions that underly support for Obama and Clinton among white Democrats:
"Obama has a glowing personal image,'' Kohut reports. "Large majorities see Obama as honest, inspiring and down-to-earth. His personal image surpasses Clinton’s on almost every personal attribute tested in the survey, except patriotism.
"At the same time, certain social beliefs and attitudes among older, white, working-class Democratic voters are associated with his relatively low levels of support among this group,'' he notes. "White Democrats who hold unfavorable views of Obama are much more likely than those who have favorable opinions of him to express less tolerant views on race.
"In addition, nearly a quarter of Democrats (23 percent) who hold a negative view of Obama believe he is a Muslim,'' Kohut notes. (Obama is Christian -- the church that has been home to the now retired Wright for some time is the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago).
"Clinton’s image generally, and among white Democrats, is much less positive than Obama’s,'' Kohut's polling has found. "Roughly twice as many white Democrats say the word “phony” describes Clinton than say it describes Obama (30 percent vs. 16 percent)/
"Views of Clinton among white Democratic voters are more influenced by a belief that she is phony than by any other trait or emotion tested,'' he adds. "White voters’ views of Obama are more influenced by how he makes them feel than by specific characteristics voters attribute to him. Saying that Obama makes them feel hopeful and proud are the strongest predictors of the ratings white Democrats give him.
"Opinions about John McCain, who has been largely out of the spotlight, are mostly unchanged'' in Pew's latest survey. "But a growing proportion of Republican voters say that the GOP will solidly unite behind the Arizona senator -- 64 percent express that view currently, up from 58 percent in late February.
The survey of 1,503 was conducted March 19-22, and carries an overall margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

What, how can this be? If the amount of media coverage dictates the importance of something, this is the most important story in history! Much more important than Bush letting all of bin Laden's family leave the country after 9/11 - that got about zero coverage.

Reverend Wright was supposed to speak in Florida at the Bible-Based Fellowship Church of Temple Terrace have been canceled Obama was afraid what Wright's words would further due to his election hopes.
To make matters even more interesting for Barack Obama is to take a look at his tax returns that he released. What words outraged Americans … "God Damn America". I guess the Obamas have prospered in that place that the Reverend Wright has such an issue with.
Obama’s pastor not only spews anti-American rhetoric from the pulpit but favors shaking down U.S. taxpayers for “reparations” for slavery. The Reverend Dr. Jeremiah Wright keynote speaker at the annual conference of N’COBRA, which stands for the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America.
Wright “Calls for Justice and Repair,” followed a statement in which he declared that “The Biblical principle of true repentance is that the offended party is given compensation to make up for that which has been stolen from them, the losses that have been inflicted upon them and their families.”
A reparations plan for blacks could extract several trillion dollars from American taxpayers’ pockets.
But Wright isn’t the only controversial member of Obama’s church. Dr. Iva Carruthers, who describes herself as an active member of the church, is an outspoken advocate of reparations for blacks and was a participant in N’COBRA’s 2004 conference.
Obama and Wright Pastor Disaster will not go away any time soon. Why should it? Obama has a 20-year relationship with Reverend Wright; to suggest that Wright's comments were isolated would be to flat out lie. However, instead of taking on the difficult situation head on which would be "Presidential", Obama and his wife fled to the Virgin Islands away from the fire storm. hardly the acts of an un-typical politician and a candidate of change.

Hillary has run a most negative dirty campaign and told too many Lies to the American Voters just the same as husband Bill did.
All she can do is try and same a little respect and withdraw NOW! but she won't the end result will her political career will be finished!
Clinton is willing to destroy the Democratic Party for her pure selfish interest, that is not a future President!

I fear the Wright issue -- while perhaps fading for now -- will utlimately sink Obama. I can only imagine the GOP is salivating at what can be done with those sermons.
This issue is far from dead. And it will end up costing Obama in the end. (And I actually think it will cost him in the short term, too. Too many people just qustion how Obama could be part of that church for 20 years. His explanations simply don't work to too many people.)

Barack Obama's words are the words we should care about. Just as we as individuals are not responsible for every word that escapes the lips of our friends, family, pastors, coworkers, politicians we support, etc., Mr. Obama is not responsible for the words that escaped the lips of Wright. Wright's incendiary words are not outweighed by his good words and deeds. Let's move past this (because it is only be used to make Obama look bad by his rivals) and focus once more on Obama's messge, because that's what is truly important in this campaign. Obama has the right message. Obama is the right person for the job. And that is what counts most.

Oddly enough, McCain has vowed not to bring up the Rev. Wright issue in the GE. He wants to focus everything purely on the issues. And why would he? For some reason, he's got a free ride with his equally controversial pastor. He also defended Obama in a Hannity and Colmes interview. Figures, eh? Gotta make it seem like he's the good guy.
Don't worry. Obama will win the GE. You just have to swallow your pride and stop playing teams. This is an election, not a football game.

Does anyone honestly think it will be a non issue in the general election. Now he even has slurred Italians saying this
"(Jesus') enemies had their opinion about Him," Wright wrote in a eulogy of the late scholar Asa Hilliard in the November/December 2007 issue. "The Italians for the most part looked down their garlic noses at the Galileans."

Rev. Wright's words were taken out of context. No doubt he was fiery in some of his language, but many of us have near relatives as intemperate in their words, yet we do not abandon them. Their language is not our language. Such guilt by association is unAmerican. We reject such guilt-by-association in how the nation has chosen to define its ideals, our ideals, despite some of our slave-owning, Indian-hating, Asian-excluding fellow Americans. They are all part "of this country that I love," as Senator Obama tells us. Hillary's lies concerning sniper fire, being anti-NAFTA, etc, etc, however, are in a different league. SHE mouths these lies, repeats them with an amazing open smile of seeming honesty. She is the very picture of someone who is lying without a shade of embarrassment, appearing fully to appeal to the listener. How can we trust her, now we have seen her lie again and again to us, smiling, laughing, wearing the shamrock green on St. Patrick's Day? We can see already how she will lie to the American people, from Day One, as President. How can she protect us if she cannot tell the difference between fantasy and reality when she picks up the red phone at 3 a.m.? Is this the finger we want on the red button? Or the President whose state of the union address we want to listen to? Who can trust her?

The reason why the polls show up this way is because the media continues to give Obama a free pass and refuses to carry any negative findings about him. Evidence is how they cover the Wright's story vs. the Bonia's mispeak
Both mainstream and cable news carried the story about Clinton's 'mispoke about Bosnia' while only Fox carried the Wright's story. CNN’s exclusive with Obama on the Wright story (after days of ignoring it) was a sham because Anderson did not ask any real questions. Clinton was called 'liar' while Obama was hailed as giving a historic speech when he is not only killing the party, he is also divisive, by not answering these real questions:
1. why do you stay for 20 years?
2. why do you still appoint Wright your adviser even though you remove him from the big event of announcing your candidacy?
3. why do you still let your children go to the church to hear Wright's anti-white and anti-american preaching?
4. why do you not wear an American flag pin any more more?
5. why do you pick a new pastor who also believes in Wright teaching?
6. why do you do throw your grandma under the bus with a 'typical white person'
7. why do you incite the Blacks and throw them under the bus by making it sound like all Blacks believe in Wright teaching?
8. why do you contribute large sum of $ to Wright?
Given this blatant discrimination, Clinton should be commended for fighting back! She may end up be the 'savior' for the democrats because of many people are now very concerned about Obama's anti-american and anti-white's belief.

This is good news! I think the majority of reasonable and intelligent people in our country recognize that we are a country of free speech. While Rev. Wrights words were harsh, they were spoken in his church, not in a public forum. To place blame on Senator Obama for what someone else says is the epitomy of hypocracy. I believe most people recognize this.
The Clinton supporters insist Senator McCain will "hit Senator Obama with this" during the General Election. I must differ with their stance. First of all, Senator McCain has his own woes with preachers speaking out in similar ways. Secondly, Senator McCain is not of the same mind as Hillary, I believe he has much more integrity. This is not to "endorse" Senator McCain, I am simply stating a fact. Hillary has shown and proven she has NO integrity or honesty whatsover.

I live in Southern New Jersey. I am a single mom raising 2 kids. I work as a teacher assistant, and an after school caregiver. I'm trying to make ends meet. Most months it stealing from Paul to pay Peter. I have been a Hillary supporter, but over the last few weeks, I'm beginning to edge over to your camp. I am very scared of another 4 years of Republican Rule. I'm scared of the Recession. In order to get my vote I only hope that your economic package has some luster to it, because between the taxes, gas, food, and mortgage I don't know if I can keep my head above water. When you talk about change I only hope you will change things.
Thank You,

That may be why he's down in the polls in Penn. Older, white Democrats think he's a Muslim and are less inclined to vote for a biracial guy. Penn is the 2nd oldest state in the nation.

Mark, you replied to me! You're right, I forgot about that one. I regret the error. Still, you have to concede that the Wright flap is significantly hurting Obama there. Before it broke he was gaining ground on Clinton, now it looks like he's back to where he started.
Laura, as a former resident of Pennsylvania I can tell you that the Clintons have an EXTENSIVE political network there that goes far beyond Ed Rendell.
There's a big union machine there that's staffed mostly by older, white union members. People who trend more toward Clinton than Obama.
The state also has a population has a much larger population of people over 55 and older than almost any state in the nation. Most young Pennsylvanians move to other states (like me) where there's more opportunity so the older people that still live there are a more important voting bloc than the young. It's sort of a time warp there. Every time I go back I can turn on 105.9 WDVE and hear the same songs that were popular when I was in High School. It's like the land that time forgot.

Actions Speak Better than Words
Before the negative press regarding Mr. Wright, Mr Obama had on numerous occasions declared Mr. Wright as his mentor and spiritual teacher for the past 20 years and even went so far as to include Mr. Wright in his election staff, these are the actions of Mr. Obama. When the press found out about the Hitleresque personality of Mr. Wright, Mr. Obama’s staff writers immediately created a rebuttal of hyperbole that amazingly some people actually believed.
But regardless what Mr. Obama and his staff reply, Mr. Obama cannot retract his clear public proclamation that Mr. Wright has been mentor and spiritual teacher for over 20 years. And that up to the negative press, up to recently Mr. Wright was on Mr. Obama’s Spiritual Advisor Committee campaign team.
If you make the choice to listen and learn from Hitler every week over 20 years, do you expect me or any other rational being to believe that you wouldn’t be or want to be influenced by Hitler’s ideas? And what does that say of your personal integrity if you chose American hating Mr. Wright, or Mr. Hitler as your mentor in life?
Action is the real measure of a person, not their words. We know who Mr. Obama is by his life and his teachers, not the words he spins. And we can only imagine the amount of hatred Mr. Obama will unleash once he achieves ultimate power. And woe be the whites, the poor, those of the Jewish faith and anyone else Mr. Obama thinks deserve retribution. Maybe I am wrong, but considering Mr. Obama’s 20 year religious education, is such a risk worth the gamble?
And also consider recent announcement that the chief of the firm involved in the State Department’s passport breach is one of Obama’s adviser. (And why is this not being discussed?) And that Obama has been caught lying about Rezko, regarding the amount of money Rezko gave him, and that Obama still hasn’t come clean about his Rezko land deal. Or further, how Mrs. Obama makes a phenomenal $317.000 a month at a hospital in Chicago that is famous for turning away the poor, especially the black poor.
If Obama were to become president, what would stop Mr. Obama from appointing Mr. Wright to his cabinet? And after Mr. Wright’s appointment, if anyone complained no doubt they would be called racist. And it seems as if this strategy - that it is racist to criticize a black man - is already in effect as Mr. Obama can do anything corrupt with minimal impunity by the public or the press. But if Hillary so much as sneezes, she is taken through the laundry and hung out to dry and then beaten some more. Such an obvious bias treatment towards Mr. Obama because of his race is racial discrimination. And I believe another reason why Mrs. Clinton is unfairly criticized to such an extreme is because a handful of powerful men in the media can’t stand the idea of a woman for president – likely a libido thing.
We should have as our country’s leader someone with wisdom and knowledge, whose goal is the selfless betterment of the world. We should not elect someone with a personal agenda for personal power or select them because of the fashionably of their race or the preference for a gender.

Barack Obama a fine man and will make a great leader, if people are not so swallowed up in hate and ignorance that they cannot hear his wonderful message of hope.
I have friends and relatives, and yes, a pastor, whose opinions I do not always share, but you don’t dump the baby out with the bathwater. Obama sat through wonderful inspiring speeches by Pastor Wright, the man who brought him to Jesus, and he rejected the comments he didn’t agree with. But he didn’t abandon him or his church. He understood where it came from. Pastor Wright is of an era where a black man had to step into the gutter to let a white man pass. Where ‘Whites only’ signs were everywhere. There is more; so much more. So many injustices, I think he can be forgiven, as the Lord forgives us all. And I am a white woman in my 70s.
Are there not people in your life you don’t always agree with? Can we not have more understanding, more compassion. Being bi-racial, Barack Obama is in the position to see things from more than one side. He is not perfect. He is a human being, albeit a quality human being and he will make a wonderful President, and will bring change to the world. It would be a tragedy if we lost out on that. Please try to remember that Barack's mother was white, and he has said on more than one occasion that the best that is in him, he owes to her.
I wish you a fair wind at your back, Mr. Obama.
~~~
As to Mrs.Clinton, one can easily misspeak or have a lapse in memory. But I think If I were running across a tarmac with my head down, trying to dodge bullets I would remember that. This is not a misspeak or an exaggeration. It's a shameless lie, clearly and simply.
“Clintons' former Church in Washington DC defends Rev. Wright
Dean Snyder, Senior minister of the historical Foundry United Methodist Church (since 1815) in Washington DC gave the statement defending Rev. Wright. You may find it also on the home page of the Church. While on it, also read his Easter sermon. It will fill your heart with joy. Not to mention hope. Why does it matter? Well,
Hilary Clinton and family were in regular attendance there during William Clinton's presidency. Below are two quotes from the page. Also see Politico.
“A STATEMENT CONCERNING THE REV. JEREMIAH WRIGHT
The Reverend Jeremiah Wright is an outstanding church leader whom I have heard speak a number of times. He has served for decades as a profound voice for justice and inclusion in our society. He has been a vocal critic of the racism, sexism and homophobia which still tarnish the American dream. To evaluate his dynamic ministry on the basis of two or three sound bites does a grave injustice to Dr. Wright, the members of his congregation, and the African-American church which has been the spiritual refuge of a people that has suffered from discrimination, disadvantage, and violence. Dr. Wright, a member of an integrated denomination, has been an agent of racial reconciliation while proclaiming perceptions and truths uncomfortable for some white people to hear. Those of us who are white Americans would do well to listen carefully to Dr. Wright rather than to use a few of his quotes to polarize. This is a critical time in America's history as we seek to repent of our racism. No matter which candidates prevail, let us use this time to listen again to one another and not to distort one another's truth.
Dean J. Snyder, Senior Minister
Foundry United Methodist Church
March 19, 2008”
“For almost two centuries, the church has been home to presidents, members of Congress, and others in public service. President Abraham Lincoln became a Life Director of the Methodist Missionary Society, and President Rutherford Hayes attended Foundry nearly every Sunday during his term. President Franklin Roosevelt and Prime Minister Winston Churchill attended a special service at Foundry on December 25, 1941. President William Clinton and his family attended regularly.””
Don't fotget the the Clinton's INVITED Rev. Wright to preside over a prayer breakfast when the Monica story ws about to hit. The picture was on TV. So you can't choose your relatives, but you can choose your pastor (I disagree....many church goers aren't fond of their pastors but they belong to the church family and stay anyway) but INVITING him? That's more of an acceptance of him that sitting through a sermon. Besides Wright had been popluar and was invited to speak many times at many places. So for the most part, except for a slanted sound bite,he preached just what all the whities would approve of. I'm white, older, middle class and all for Obama.
DON'T BE DUPED !!!
Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses from early on. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable. And also because with a Clinton and Obama ticket you are almost 100% certain to get quality, affordable universal health care very soon.
But first, all of you have to make certain that Hillary Clinton takes the democratic nomination and then the Whitehouse. NOW! is the time. THIS! is the moment you have all been working, and waiting for. You can do this America. "Carpe diem" (harvest the day).
I think Hillary Clinton see's a beautiful world of plenty for all. She is a woman, and a mother. And it's time America. Do this for your-selves, and your children's future. You will have to work together on this and be aggressive, relentless, and creative. Americans face an even worse catastrophe ahead than the one you are living through now.
You see, the medical and insurance industry mostly support the republicans with the money they ripped off from you. And they don't want you to have quality, affordable universal health care. They want to be able to continue to rip you off, and kill you and your children by continuing to deny you life saving medical care that you have already paid for. So they can continue to make more immoral profits for them-selves.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama's. She also leads in the electoral college numbers that you must win to become President in the November national election. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
As much as 30% of Obama's primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.
Hillary Clinton has been out manned, out gunned, and out spent 2 and 3 to 1. Yet Obama has only been able to manage a very tenuous, and questionable tie with Hillary Clinton.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the Republican vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is. YOUNG PEOPLE. DON'T BE DUPED! Think about it. You have the most to lose.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket. Everyone needs to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton NOW! So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
I think Barack Obama has a once in a life time chance to make the ultimate historic gesture for unity, and change in America by accepting Hillary Clinton's offer as running mate. Such an act now would for ever seal Barack Obama's place at the top of the list of Americas all time great leaders, and unifiers for all of history.
The democratic party, and the super-delegates have a decision to make. Are the democrats, and the democratic party going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee to fight for the American people. Or are the republicans going to choose the DEMOCRATIC party nominee through vote fraud, and gaming the DEMOCRATIC party primaries, and caucuses.
Fortunately the Clinton's have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton's. Only the Clinton's are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.
"This is not a game" (Hillary Clinton)
Sincerely
jacksmith...
Let me see if I have this straight:
It is wrong to be a member of Rev. Wright's church, but it is OK to be a member of the Catholic Church that protects pedophile priests? Pure racism is the only explanation.
Yes, I hear those catholics praising pedophilia in their sermons, too. We must go to the same church.
On topic, I think it will be a problem in the general. Don't know how big, but it might surface somewhere on the side here and there.
How much do we have to talk a bout this comments. America is a fair and a place anybody says anything they want to. I did not know it takes this few words to feel like the country is been attacked all over again. American people are bigger than this silly comments that were made from an individual who infact has contributed to the community than this media buzoz just waiting to attack. The mens frustration is clear the rich wants to care a bout themselfs and use the middle and poor class to advance their agenda. There was no enough air time to discuss issues that affect people but anything racial that devides the nation takes more milage and breath stinking coments. This is the best time you learn that people curse ooh by the way priests do too. Get a life!!!
The above is an openly racist comment that, frankly, I'm surprised got through the purported censor on this website, and I for one demand that it be removed forthwith. It's disgusting. Moderator?
Yeah, the Obama-phytes HOPE that it will go away, but typically rant-and-rave lunatics like the reverend Wright and Otis, his successor, are so incredibly STUPID that they will crop up again, at some point, with some more of their strange, hate-filled gospel.
What's the difference between something that keeps coming back, and something that just won't go away? Mr. and Mrs. Clinton's list of lies will provide journalistic fodder for decades. However, thanks to DNA, Internet, and other technologies, many of their misdeeds have already come to light, with more on the way. Although the Clintons continue to lie, thank goodness for that. Their blatant untruths only serve to increase the likelihood of their getting caught: http://theseedsof9-11.com
Another recent Pew Poll is une you'll never see mentioned by the Pew-poll citing Mark Silva.
It was of journalists, and their political biases. And it confirms what we all know, that journalists are so far left they almost fall off the planet.
The bottom line: Only 8 percent of journalists said they considered themselves conservative. This compares with 36 percent of the overall population that describes itself as conservative. 32% of journalists described themselves as liberal, compared to only 19% in the overall population.
Overall population, 2-1 conservative over liberal. Journalists, 4-1 liberal over conservative.
Next time you read a news story or see one on tv, remember these numbers.
