Obama says Clinton should run 'long as she wants': The Swamp

JOHNSTOWN, Pa.— Barack Obama rejected suggestions from his allies that rival Hillary Clinton should end her presidential campaign, saying Saturday that she should "stay in as long as she wants."

The Illinois senator told reporters that fears that the prolonged primary battle is dividing the party are "somewhat overstated."

Even so, Obama argued that the party must quickly settle on a nominee after the final primary votes are cast on June 3 so Democrats can quickly shift to the general election campaign that presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona already has begun.

"At that point there are no more contests. And I think it is important to pivot as completely as possible, for the superdelegates or others, to make a decision as quickly as possible so that we can settle on a nominee," Obama said at a brief news conference after a campaign appearance in Johnstown, Pa.

Sen. Pat Leahy (D-Vt.), an Obama supporter, said last week that Clinton cannot win the nomination and should drop out to avoid damaging the party's nominee in the fall election.

Clinton and her husband, Bill, have seized on the withdrawal suggestions from Obama supporters in campaign appearances in states that have yet to vote, arguing that voters in those states should have a say in the nomination. States with remaining primaries such as Pennsylvania, Indiana and North Carolina rarely have played a role in selecting the nominees in recent campaigns.

"I have no intention of stopping until we finish what we started and until we see what happens in the next 10 contests and until we resolve Florida and Michigan," Hillary Clinton told The Washington Post during a campaign stop in New Albany, Ind., on Saturday. "And if we don't resolve it, we'll resolve it at the convention—that's what credentials committees are for.

"We cannot go forward until Florida and Michigan are taken care of, otherwise the eventual nominee will not have the legitimacy that I think will haunt us," she said.

Former President Bill Clinton also hit the theme at a campaign stop in Girardville, Pa., saying that people calling on his wife to quit the race should "just relax."

Despite his comments Saturday, Obama regularly suggests in stump speeches that the primary campaign has dragged on too long, likening it at an appearance in Pittsburgh on Friday to "a good movie that lasted about a half an hour too long."

The two campaigns also scrambled Saturday to secure delegates they won in precinct-level caucuses in Texas on March 4 as the state's caucus process moved to the next stage. Delegates selected at the precinct level were meeting in larger metropolitan conventions Saturday.

Also Saturday, Obama underscored policy differences on Iraq with McCain , pointing to violence in Basra as a sign the U.S. troop surge "has not resolved the underlying tensions that exist in Iraq."

"There's nothing that's happened in Basra that either surprises me or undermines my basic view that it is the political accommodations rather than our military presence that is going to bring about long-term stability," Obama said.

He argued that the troop surge has hindered rather than helped efforts to reach political agreements among Iraqi factions by reducing pressure on them.

The troop surge is a key point of contention between McCain and the two Democratic presidential candidates. McCain is a determined advocate of the elevated troop levels in Iraq.

A prominent Pennsylvania political figure who unexpectedly sided with Obama last week also told reporters that the way Obama handled the political crisis over Rev. Jeremiah Wright's incendiary racial comments was a "significant" factor in his decision to endorse the Illinois senator.

Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (D-Penn.), the scion of a prominent Pennsylvania political family and a socially conservative politician with a strong following among the state's large white working-class population, had repeatedly declared before the endorsement that he would remain neutral in the state's April 22 primary.

"I thought he was tested there and he didn't fall into the usual political 'Let's do damage control and keep moving' mode," Casey said. "He was honest. He took a risk, and I think he charted a course on a big issue like race that I don't think anyone has done in a generation."

The socially conservative blue collar voters who back Casey are among those that were most at risk of being alienated by Wright's remarks.

Video excerpts circulated earlier this month of Wright sermons critical of white America, including one in which Wright said blacks should sing "God Damn America" rather than "God Bless America."

Obama denounced the comments but said he would not "disown" Wright, a spiritual mentor. He then delivered a well-received address on race in America, urging the country to address grievances that fueled racial resentments among blacks and whites.

What he really means is she should continue to make a fool of herself and run the democratic party into the ground.

It is a shame how Hillary, Bill and their Team have initiated Race and Gender into this nation, emotions and standards we were moving away from. Young women go to war, and hold many jobs that were not open to them before and Blacks too. We were making strides towards equaliy of the sexes and moving toward a more united nation, and the Hope and Inspiration Barack offered us was a very appealing idea and necessary. Yet every day, Hillary, Bill or one of their surrogates talk unjustly about the inequality of women: a black man can be president before a women -- Barack is getting "special treatment" because he is a black man, etc., etc. They have been doing this and getting away with it from South Carolina and it is getting worse as they see this nomination slipping away. This is unfair to the nation that they would rather tear this country down and move it backwards, to pit one group against another and to incite animosity and hatred than to talk about real issues that need to be addressed today if we are to move forward as a people, and sadder yet, no one is calling them out on it. However, that is why some are calling for her to step aside. No one objects to a healthy and honest debate on the issues, but what people are objecting to, not that she is a woman, but that she is a woman that has gone ballistic, in a very negative way. She is like a cancer that has gone wild and there apparently seems to be no cure, we can only wait until it takes it course. Or like a hurricane that does terrible damage and we must run for cover and wait for it to abate. She has lost her moral compass!

This is a sad debauchle on American history that the first woman with a serious chance to become President has had such disregard for her own Party and the country at large in the way she has conducted herself and campaign and for their reckless exhibition in tearing the country apart through both race and gender. Unfortunately, she has not exhibited a moral and ethical character and a genuine graciousness of spirit, which Protype would have been a a role model for all women to be proud of. This is not the type of "Sophia" or Mary to lead America to a better and more shining place and to that more perfect union which would enable us to measure up to the challenges of our time.

Obama is being nice. Of course she should quit. She should have quit a long time ago. The very idea that the queen in waiting was the presumptive nominee 3 years ago now behind and begging for votes is shameful. When you consider that she has been digging in dirt trying to Tonya Hardy Obama and has gotten less popular should say something about what her next move should be.

How nice of him to grant his permission. Once again, his minions, behind the scenes, issue daily calls for her to get out, portray Clinton as spoiler to their heir apparent (conveniently forgetting Obama does NOT have the delegates), while St. Obama graciously issues patently condescending remarks.

And no one calls him on it.
Unbelievable.

The depth and scope of Hillary and her campaign minions' sniper fire lies are well told by The New York Times' Frank Rich:

Give it up Hillary, just imagine what the John (100 more years in Iraq) McSame campaign will do with this in the general election.

"And no one calls him on it."

Seems you just did. But what, exactly, are you calling him on? Assume he had called for her to get out - what would you say then?

Angellight apparently ripped off Julie Mack from the sun times site.
But, Julie--remember it was the OBAMAS
who injected race and gender into this fight--even before it began with the Imus crap and the 'keep her house' crap.
All the while, they were sitting on the rotten beginnings of the Obama rise to upper class financial status:
Emil Jones, Rezko trashing of poor people's housing in Barack's first district, Daley connections (that cushy U of C job with the upper class daycare) U of C mafia (got some cointelpro 'radicals' who didn't get prosecuted for selling out the anti war groups of vietnam days there, maybe?)
Give it up.
The mass media wants to milk as much money out of keeping the anti-Hilary primary alive.
Then they'll start doing stories about Obama they shoulda done YEARS ago. Possibly decades ago.
I think HIlary can still pull it off.
Barack needs to apologize soon and fold into the clinton campaign.
Hilary is a very forgiving person--it's one of her strengths, one of her sources of popularity.

Ya think Obama's doin' the biddin' of the chicagoland media in saying he hopes she stays in as long as she can?
Ya think the chicago media is getting really really rich the longer dis thing continues?
Ya think some chicago media types are getting new careers outta this--Kass and Sweet sure look good on camera now, huh?
Maybe if they'd looked at how the obamas profitted off SAYING they were helping poor people, while the record shows otherwise dis thing would be over already?
But that's not the chicago way, is it?
Looks like the media knows how to do the chicago way too.

Frank Rich might have a point about Hilary being toast on this issue. Which raises lots of interesting questions.
If the Obamas get indicted, or just much more bad press about the Rezko stuff, might we see John Edwards resurface as the only viable nominee?
Are there enough super delegates who could protect the Democratic Party's interests in this way at the election?
Might this campaign might go into the Guinness Book of World Records under the category 'stupid campaign tricks'?

You know how these two candidates and their supporters can prove who should stay in the race? By demonstrating how they will run and win against McCain. Don't tell me who the better Democratic candidate is. I've heard all that stuff. Show me by kicking some ill-informed, pandering, 100 year war, bought-and-paid-for, Bush-clone McBush butt.

Hillary cannot accept defeat and her main problem is she is a Clinton. Where good gamesmanship does not count, it's win at all costs.

Hillary has run a dreadful campaign, and she should be mortified by her performance this far. It is not only unimpressive, it is painful to watch. All the advantages of being the well-known First Lady, the wife of a Democratic icon, all the money she had, the connections, and it has come to this. She should take this moment and bow out gracefully. It would be good for her, for her party, and for the country.

I love this comment from Hillary, "We cannot go forward until Florida and Michigan are taken care of..." Funny how when she was the front runner, it wasn't an issue that these two states would not count. Now it is and she seems like a sore loser because those states are in her favor and wont count. Well, too bad.

Drop out Hill and go back to being the carpet bagger senator you are.

Well, whoppdedo! Who is Obama giving his approval as to Hilliary being able to run if she wants??? Isn't this still a free America! He does not have the nomination locked up and she still has a fighting chance! Lay off of her!

Gee, how big of him.

She's free to do what...she's free to do.

That freedom was obtained by Americans who fought in wars that Obama was probably opposed to.

Here is my main concern/question/issue with Barack Obama as POTUS:

is he a great counselor or a good leader?

To me, good counselors have the qualities of intelligence, listening skills, verbal skills and a willingness to pass on wisdom. Obama has all those qualities.

A good leader has all of those skills to a some degree, but he/she also has the additional trait of an overwhelming desire to control his/her environment. This trait may also be described as ego, but not vanity. Although how one leads or asserts himself/herself may vary, the effectiveness can be measured only under pressure or duress (do I really need to give names or can you think of the one I'm thinking of?)

This environment can be a 2nd grade classroom or the nation of U.S.A, as big as he/she can take on.

Here's my point about Obama using a couple of recent media crisis he has had....relationship with Rezko and Rev. Wright. First, I don't believe Obama has done anything wrong nor do I believe he is a racist simply through his relationship with Wright.

However, I do believe that Obama didn't demonstrate leadership in those situations.

In the Rezko case, even if Rezko is found innocent and was a great Obama supporter, how could Obama allow himself to be connected to Rezko (a known political power broker) in the purchase of his home. I believe he was caught between the safe/proper choice (walking away from the house) and disappointing his long time supporter....Obama made the wrong choice. Maybe he would have damaged his relationship with Rezko to some degree by saying no, but he would have stamped his principles on the issues.

In the Rev. Wright and broader race issue in America, Obama again is reactive rather than proactive. If we take Obama's word that the race discussion in America is very important and personal to him, then a fair question should be why didn't he ever initiate those conversations at his church or with Rev. Wright. Obama should have shown leadership in that situation; afterall, it was over a span of 20 years. It's just not good enough to pass-off Rev. Wright's comments as an "old uncle's", because Rev. Wright was a public figure making public statements....over and over.

Of course, it could be that Obama really wasn't paying that much attention and was only connected to Rev. Wright for his political influence in the district. That's ok too, but it does reduce Obama a bit from a visionary to merely an ambitious politician.

Up to this point, it appears to me that Obama is a wise counselor with a vision, but not necessarily a great leader.
I'm not saying he should be dumb and avoid all political calculations; but I am saying I'm not sure he will assert his will at the proper time and under the right circumstances.

What's an arrogant, sexist and bully's attitude.

Neither Obama nor Clinton has the required delegates to earn an legitimate nomination. He actually has less right to run since he is blocking the voters of Michigan and Florida in addition to being an anti-white and anti-american candidate.
