Sen. Hillary Clinton’s argument for the Democratic presidential nomination includes a pitch that she can win the big states that Democrats need in November to amass at least 270 Electoral votes.
Yet a new poll in the biggest of all states – California – shows Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois stronger than Clinton among likely voters there – with Obama favored by 9 percentage points over Republican Sen. John McCain.
If the election were held today, California's likely voters would favor Obama over McCain by 49 to 40 percent, according to the survey. A Clinton-McCain match-up is a virtual tie: 46 percent Clinton, 43 percent McCain.
In the mid-March survey by the Public Policy Institute of California, voters there view the Democratic Party as “more capable than the Republican Party on four key national issues''
Californians give Democrats a 32-point advantage in handling health care (59 percent Democratic Party to 27 percent Republican Party), a 13-point advantage in handling the economy (50 percent to 37 percent, a 10-point edge in handling the situation in Iraq (48 percent to 38 percent), and a 5-point edge in handling immigration (42 to 37).
Six in 10 likely voters (61 percent) say they have a favorable opinion of Obama. Nearly half have a favorable view of McCain (49 percent) and fewer say so about Clinton (45 percent.)
Most Democrats have a positive impression of Obama (78 percent) and Clinton (74 percent), the institute reports, and most Republicans have a favorable opinion of McCain (75 percent).
Among independent voters, more hold a favorable view of Obama (57 percent) than of McCain (47 percent) or of Clinton (35 percent).
The survey of 2,002 Californians was conducted between March 11 and 18, with interviews conducted in English or Spanish. The possible margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Barrack Hussein Obama was in Newe York this morning welcoming Mayor Bloomberg and Paul Volcker who screwed up under Jimmy Carter. I think Obama would be a second Carter.
His tax plan calls for spending more money than this years budget by 10 percent raising taxes some $2.4 trillion and putting Pelosi's idiot tax on gas companies raising our prices at the pump in the middle of a recession.
Obama compared himself to Abraham Lincoln which he and his mentor Dickie Durbin believe was a Democrat.
No they both are tax and spend socialists wakeup America Lincoln he ain't. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

Oh, Please. The voters of California selected Hillary Roadham Clinton. The lates poll I say had her up by 17%.
Obama left the country when an important decision had to be made about Michigan voters. Should Michigan voters be allowed to revote? He whined because his name was not on the ballet. Florida votes should count because his name WAS on the ballot.
Now we all were shocked and suffered a loss because in 2000 GW was handed the Presidency by the Republican appointed Supreme Court.
Now we all wake up and scream outrage over Obama's Illinois Attorneys refusing Michigan voters the right to have their votes count in a revote. Illinois Attorneys do not have the privilege of selecting our candidate. They will not be allowed to steal this election.
Where is the fairness of the rights of the voters, we expect Democratic National Committee to correct this immediately.

If this affected anyone other than that Vampire Clinton, I'd say California would be the stake (state) that should finish her campaign off.
Well, we can always hope.

It is not about strength - it is about the nuances of real leadership. People can sense it - even if they cannot articulate it......

Hillary Clinton's positive rating has dropped to a new low of 37 percent in an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released on Wednesday. John McCain has an open field and his approval ratings continue to climb. McCain's team is fresh and gearing up for the race to Nov. Barack and Hillary's campaign staffs are in danger of burning out before the general race even starts. The Democrat leaders have a choice to saddle up with Bill and Hillary and let this bloodbath continue or saddle up and take on McCain and his team as a unified Democrat Party. Hillary has a 5 percent chance of winning the Democrat Nomination, and according to her own pollster she has to go even more negative. We already see this happening. Is this war worth it? Vote Obama!

The Michigan Judge rules the redo unconstitutional. Barack Obama will win California in the general. Anybody who thinks he wouldn't is a retard and knows nothing about our electorate.
Posted by: Rainy | March 27, 2008 10:44 AM
Of course Obama would win the state in a general election. He's most electable over Clinton and as he campaigns for a general election will win those same states Clinton won in primary. So also then her argument to superdelegates that those big states she won carry the electoral votes, well, they would go to Obama too, so that is for sure no argument for the primary win she wishes to steal.

Democratic candidate Mrs. Clinton has declared that pledged delegates can ultimately support any of the candidates regardless results during the primaries and caucuses. Long Live Democracy! Any historian will tell you how, in the 1800s in Europe, governments were chosen by a small number of powerful rich males while little people and women were said to be too stupid to understand politics.

Oh Please get off the Florida, Michigan blame game. Obama had nothing to do with those 2 states breaking the rules. Why have rules if they don't matter? Guess that is not just the mindset of the Clintons but of their supporters(suckers) too.

"Why, shouldn't every vote count? This is America right! Don't you want your vote to count? Let every vote be counted and who ever wins, get behind and [WIN] the White House."
Because the state legislators of Florida and Michigan decided to violate the rules and move their state primaries to dates before the range of dates allowed by the DNC, and were disqualified for doing so. If you're upset about it, you need to write or call your state legislator that represents your district and complain, since it's the state legislatures who made the decision in the first place, and the state legislatures who failed to come up with a working plan for a do-over as well. Neither Obama nor Clinton "disenfranchised" anyone in Michigan or Florida, their own state legislatures did.
But, I see you're in Ohio, and not Michigan or Florida, according to your handle. Didn't your vote count?
Posted by: ChrisR | March 27, 2008 11:16 AM
Why is this news? Please, Clinton kicked obama's butt in California by double digits. The media is once again promoting polls that favor obama, but have no relevance today. They are also promoting the poll that says obama will win Connecticut, while ignoring that Clinton would also win Connecticut. The media however ignores the polls that show that Clinton is more competitive than obama against McCain in Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio, Arkansas, Kentucky, Arizona, and Nevada. Stop the bias against Clinton!

"Oh, Please. The voters of California selected Hillary Roadham Clinton. The lates poll I say had her up by 17%."
John Edwards got 4% of the California vote despite having dropped out of the race. Absentee ballots are misleading when it comes to support. Many of those ballots were cast before people turned away from Clinton.

This is the fundamental problem with Clinton supporters; they feel the rules don't apply to Hillary.
Mi8chigan and Florida chose to break the rules of the Party for their own self-aggrandizement and deserve the punishment they knew was forthcoming.
Let's join together to move this country forward, and not backward into the divisive and hateful politics of the Bush/Clinton past.

I BELIEVE SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON SHOULD WITHDRAW FOR OWN SAKE. SHE HAS DAMAGED HERSELF BEYOND REPAIR. AND I HOPE SHE SHOULD NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ANSWER THE 3:00AM CALL BECAUSE AS PER HER, SLEEP DEPRIVATION AFFECTS HER MEMORY. G.W. Bush never said he is a fighter but still he put us in the Iraq mess, now Hillary said she is fighter can you imagine what kind of mess we can if she elected!

Obama did not prevent the Michigan voters from being counted, the state government of Michigan did. They agreed in writing to the terms of the DNC 18 months ago and still moved up their primaries. Do not blame Obama for this. Hillary agreed to this too yet in her typically sneaky fashion left her name on the ballot in MI and campaigned in Florida, both of which she agreed NOT to do.
Hillary's campaign contributors offered to pay for the revote in Michigan, here in the real world we call that a conflict of interest.
She should go back to Bosnia and not come back.

I hope the 20% of the Clinton supporters that won't vote for Obama when he wins the primary election will go back to being right wing of the Republican party where you belong...
For the other 80%, please get on board with us and help us end this. We know who won this fight, it is time to start the healing and get behind this wonderful candidate! Please take another look at Obama...it isn't like switching teams, we are all Americans.
These special interests don't stand a chance against the over 1.2 million small donors like us. Help us grow that database and take be a part of the calvary that takes America away from those special interests! After all it is all about the Supreme Court Justices, if McCain gets in, we are going to have some pretty tough laws to abide by.
Some people are willing to give up their lives for the good of this country... Hillary cannot even give up her obviously lost nomination for the good of the country...

The Clintons certainly loved caucuses in 1992 when Bill ran. With their machine and strength they certainly never imagined they would be complaining about caucuses which have been used for the entire existence of the Democratic Party. They certainly are selective in their whining aren't they.
Yes, yes, I keep hearing from her supporters what a godhead she is. Why would that be? What has she really ever done? To blaspheme Obama is just babytalk, to claim whites are being discriminated against is just racism pure and simple. Everything the Clintons say now is projecting their own faults. Want to discuss her lobby money as she is #3 on that list?
If Obama were white he would be winning going away, and Clinton people know it. Playing it like a Republican and the voters will start seeing her as a Republican...and it seems to be working (against her). Blame the media, they are biased, but they will be so for McCain as well, and besides this very point is a major reason she shouldn't run against McCain, half the country dislikes her to begin with; cite Saturday Night Live as gospel but, please, perhaps include other shows where they blast her if you claim satire has a grain of truth in it.
Bill claims this is all a game, and they seem to want McCain to win if they don't, which shows me they really don't care much about the country, considering how many wars McCain will want to fight and how many strict obstructionists of the Scalia mode he wants to put on the Federal Courts. Perhaps the Clintons think they are irreplaceable gods but many don't. She is a woman but there are better woman more deserving than her admirers claim. She is a sore loser who would rather destroy everything than win.
Politics is not a game, democracy should be about ideas, not strategy, should be about running honestly not with subterfuge and sublimination, behind-the-scenes-intrigue and threats. What Constitution does Bill read anyway, what Declaration of Independence? Perhaps a good reading of Thomas Payne might be instructive to the Clintons.

People are missing the point about the Michigan vote. Someone has to pay for it, and the state won't pay for it. Besides if you don't abide by the rules you have to suffer the consequences.
Posted by: Derrick Durroh | March 27, 2008 11:28 AM
Jeremy, is it by chance that you included Senator Obama's middle name at the beginning of your comment? Please finish your thought. You say his plan calls for more spending...is it accounted for? Does his create additional debt for our nation? Don't be so short-sighted. The US has subsidized our gasoline prices for years. While that is nice in the short term, perhaps we would alternate energy sources if we had truly high fuel pump prices like the rest of the non-oil producing world.
People, let's use reason when making decisions. Please.

Don't blame Obama for the Michigan and Florida vote rules are rules period. It is not his responsibility to amend a mistake that was made by party officials in Michigan and Florida. They were told, you move the date, your delegates will not count. Why didn't she complain before Michigan and Florida voted? Stop whining, always trying to manipulate people. Play by the rules!

He understands and appreciates the basis on which this country was founded and has the ability to take todays conditions, synthesize the information into some solid ways to again strengthen the US on many levels. He's the ONLY candidate that can be trusted to returning America back to the people. Please don't make rash judgements, go to his website and really listen to what he has to say and do the same with Hillary and McCain. I am confident you will (if you open your mind) see how valuable a man like Barack can and WILL be to this country.

Please Hillary knew the rules when she agreed, along with everyone in the Democratic power structure, to disenfranchise the voters of Florida and Michigan. Now she wants those same votes to count. If you look at the number of Republicans that have crossed over to vote for Hillary it is clear that Obama would have clinched the nomination at this point. Or, at least that's the argument Hillary would use
if she were in a similar situation. I don't want anyone's wife, son, or brother of a former president to be a president. This is America; we are not a monetary monarchy.

It seems more reason is starting to come into play with the arguments of FL and MI -- for that I'm thankful. Those states are to blame for disenfranchising their voters. It is not Obama's fault.

Hillary lost me forever when she was asked if Obama is a Muslim and she replied, "As far as I know, he isn't." She knows damn well he isn't, yet chose to sow a seed of doubt, hoping it might help. When Obama was down earlier in the race, you never saw this kind of ugliness from him.
Ask yourself this. When I say, "We have a chance to elect a truly great President this time", of whom do you assume I'm speaking?

This is truely unfair. Obama's only crime is wanting to make America better. But what I find troubling is these same people who are posting hate and bigotry on this site are the very ones condemning Mr.Wright. For you failed to see that you are no different than he. You hypocrite! Obama only wants unity; for people to come together. If you haven't noticed others around the world truely hate us. Can you see the message an Obama presidency would send to the world?

If I may address this comment above " Bloomberg and Paul Volcker who screwed up under Jimmy Carter " . Paul Volcker worked to repair the damage inflicted by eight years of Nixon , Ford and the preceding Fed chair ( his name escapes me ) He ( Volcker ) is credited with being one of our better Fed chairmen by those who actually understand such things , which the above poster obviously does not . Carter was handed a huge mess by the above mentioned prior presidents . Carters handling of energy policy was what caused opec to come apart in late 82 when oil plunged from over $40.00 a barrel to $11.00 a barrel almost overnight for which the incompetent and totally clueless reagan then took credit . Easy to check , the facts are clear . But one has to actually look at them rather than the fairy tale the republicans have spun ever since.

If it isn't another article biased toward Obama? Ummmmmmm last I checked Hillary WON California against Obama. So OBVIOUSLY the POLL is WRONG. I hope Hillary beats the pants off Obama the rest of the way out and proves the media and everyone else ALL WRONG. She tends to do that from time to time. You'll see. She's gonna win this. Never ever underestimate a Clinton. I hope she takes it all the way to the convention and puts the DNC on the spot to seat Florida and Michigan. I'd like to see them not seat Florida and Michigan. Please. LOL. You people are so gullible and stupid. BOO HOO HILLARY'S FIGHTING TO WIN! Well golly gee I didn't know THAT was allowed in America. I thought this was a free country? She'd have to be a damned fool to back out now. Quitters never win and winners never quit my friends. I think its almost worth it for her to put a BIG FAT SCAR on the democratic party at this point. She's the only candidate out there worth a damn that might get something done. BUT OH I forgot the American people and government are afraid of actually GETTING SOMETHING DONE in this country aren't they? I pray for this country that Hillary wins the nomination. All politicians lie and embellish. Barack Obama has told his share of tall tales during this campaign, the media has ignored them and it's APPALLING. He's lied about his Rezco relationship, Rev Wright, how his parents really met each other, and those are only a few of his tall tales. Karl Rove discussed quite a few on On the Record with Greta last night. I bet ya'll missed all those lies didn't ya? Hillary tells one fib and it's suddenly Hillary is this big liar. COME ON PEOPLE GROW THE ---- UP! This is a contest and she's not leaving it and I don't blame her. It makes me really angry to see someone treated the way that she is being treated. She doesn't deserve it and everyone knows it. I hope she wins, she certainly deserves it.

As for Clinton, she keeps putting her foot in her mouth and is dooming herself (Laura Bush is just as qualified as she is)! I too, am glad her true self is coming out now. The blather has gone on long enough. Hopefully one day we will have a viable female candidate. Until then, I just keep hoping Obama rises above Clinton's ignorant comments and stays on message.

LOOK WHO'S BUYING AN ELECTION WHEN NOT TRYING TO DESTROY OUR DEMOCRACY.
One of the objections stated by the Obama campaign to revotes in Florida and Michigan was that Clinton supporters were willing to contribute money to the Democratic Party in Florida and to the State of Michigan to fund them. The phrase "buying an election" became the standard Obama supporter response.
Nothing better proves how mendacious that excuse was from the Obama camp than this: When Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill endorsed Barack Obama, Obama donated $10,000 from his political action committee to McCaskill's 2006 campaign.
She received nothing from the PAC of New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.
Since 2005, [Obama's] PAC has donated $710,900 to superdelegates, more than three times as much as Clinton's PAC has.
If funding an ELECTION, where no money goes to the voters themselves, can be questioned, what do we make of giving money DIRECTLY to the "voters" (the super delegates in this case)? I don't like the mendacious excuses to block the will of the voters of Michigan and Florida. The dirtiest trick of this campaign was Obama's blocking of the revotes in Michigan and Florida.

What worries me is none of the presidential candidates want to talk about the scourge of illegal immigration. They need to be asked where they stand, whoever comes to power? What do they have in store for us in 2009?
STOP THE TRAVESTY OF OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS! SAVE YOUR JOBS, LANGUAGE, FLAG & CONSTITUTION FROM ALL THOSE ANTI-SOVEREIGN, PRO-ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ADVOCATES WHO WOULD UNDERMINE THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE!
When the new personage steps into 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, then we will be seeing the 12 to 20 million getting a path to citizenship. Once a new amnesty is signed into law, then nobody will be able to stop the next tsunami of destitute, uneducated illegal humanity pouring across our borders. A new amnesty will be seen as an open door for yet another future welcome to the world.
If MALDEF, LA RAZA or MECHA and other special interest groups, not excluding anti-sovereignty entities like the ACLU, Southern Poverty League that are apposed to the federal SAVE ACT (H.R. 4088), than it must have an excellent chance of working? Then citizens must contend with individual like Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles, along with his retinue of pro-illegal immigrant city managers, who pander to special interest groups. In the limelight was ex-governor Spitzer, who was going to issue illegal foreign workers and families driving licenses. It seems like the illegal immigration battle is never over, because many of our politicians like House Speaker Pelosi, Harry Reid and their thrall are determined to undermine THE PEOPLE'S wishes.
In the last few months Democrat Kay Bailey Hutchinson added an amendment to the our border fence, that would gut it indefinitely by December 2008.Never mind that Assemblywoman Mimi Walters, a Republican from Oceanside, said illegal immigrants cost California taxpayers an estimated $9 billion each year. Even Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich agrees with this statement. Unfortunately their are other traitors amongst us, such as the globalist open border, free traders whose major agenda is the free movement of people throughout the North American Continent.
This by-partisan law is awaiting just 18 signers, to bring this enforcement only to a House vote. The SAVE ACT will supersede any state laws, in its magnitude. It will go after the real culprits who are the predator employers. It is enforcement by Attrition or Self-Deportation. Cannot get work, then they will leave of their own accord. If you are one of the citizens fed up with subsiding the poor, uneducated from around the world. Nobody should have a right to legalization without going home and being processed like all immigrants.
