Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who ran for president, joined Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican Party nominee, aboard his campaign plane.
Romney, who has said that he would be happy to serve as McCain's running mate, suggested that it's still early to be getting too specific about the Arizona senator's best choice.
“There are probably 20, maybe even more,'' Romney, standing by McCain's side, said of the potential long-list of running mates. "I can think of probably 20 names of people who I think would be excellent vice presidential nominees for our party.’’
No word from McCain on what he thinks of the short list.

Dude, if you get asked, you get asked.. stop sweating grandpa monster. I hope he doesn't pick someone as far right as this dude

Dude, Luis. Using terms like "dude" kind of discredits your comments. haha
Romney isn't that far right anyways. He'd be a brilliant addition in terms of economic knowledge and business sense! Thats why I wanted him to win the nomination.

McCain's VP short list:
Charles Keating
Rudiger Grube, Chairman of EADS
Vicki Iseman
Karl Rove
Whichever of the 59 lobbyists working for him raises the most cash.

Here is the real McCain, don't be fooled Republicans, too bad the American journalists here at home can't print the truth.

What's wrong with throwing his name into the ring? Isn"t that what everyone else is doing that is endorsing him such as Gov Crist of Florida. If you want a job, you have to apply.

As a Dem, I'd love to see this GOPer ticket.
Crazy John McCain/Bush and Plastic Flip-Flopper Mitt 08!!!

With Romney on the McCain ticket, my enthusiasm for my Republican party goes way up. Without Romney, I can't say I'm inclined to support McCain. No candidate, current or former, has as good a resume and proven leadership ability than Romney.

That is a very intelligent comment. Using words like "grandpa Monster" and "dude" to describe Presidential candidates just shows that the educated voter is rare.

A McCain/Romney ticket is perfect for the GOP. In 2004, they said a war hero is not fit to be president; anyone from Massachusettes is not fit to be president; and anyone who has ever changed his position on an issue is not fit to be president. All those characteristics that the Republican Party said disqualifies you from being president in 2004 epitomize a McCain/Romney ticket.

Joe Lieberman. 4 more wars! uhhh errr something like that...
Posted by: Charlie | March 28, 2008 2:08 PM
What a great ticket! Distinguished war hero McCain, mature and calm paired with the super sharp, super articulate Romney. Kind of makes those two Democrat neophytes look like limp dishrags. Go McRomney!

Luis Luis Luis... surely you can scrape up more tolerance than to call a person a 'religious freak'. And he is hardly a neo-con based on his moderate record. That term gets abused.

Governor Romney is an EXCELLENT candidate as V.P. His economic expertise, integrity, leadership, and real-world business experience will energize McCain's ticket!
Posted by: almanojodo | March 28, 2008 9:16 PM
If John McCain chooses Mitt Romney as his VP, he would be doing himself and the Repubs a huge favor! With McCain's war experience and Romney's business acumen, what a powerful team they'd make! I say YESSSSS!!! Two thumbs up!!!

Mitt Romney is the most qualified man to run for the office of President for a very long time, maybe forever. McCain will greatly add to his chances of being elected if he puts Mitt on the ticket.

Mitt Romney as a VP for President McCain is an unbeatable team!
This country would be so fortunate to have these two men working together to get our nation back on the right track..
Way ta' go guys! Bette

Dudes, bras, members of the blog, etc., the Left, Right, or Middle, the strength of Romney is not static doctrinalism, but dynamic pragmatism, as evidenced by his exemplary record of success in, oh, just every endeavor he's undertaken, which is why he's the only name who would force me to vote for McCain instead of sitting on the sidelines this cycle, mates.
Posted by: DS | March 29, 2008 10:27 AM
McCain and Romney would be a great ticket and a winner at that!!!!

MCCAIN/ROMNEY 2008
Yes!
Posted by: Frannie | March 29, 2008 3:38 PM
Mitt Romney is a great choice for VP. As a former Governor and CEO he would bring executive leadership and a strong knowledge of the economy. When you combine that with John McCain's strong foreign policy experience they would make a strong team to lead our country.
Posted by: Kim | March 29, 2008 11:47 PM
A McCain/Romney ticket would make it much easier for me to vote for McCain. Without Romney on the ticket, I'm not sure I can hold my nose long enough to cast my ballot. If McCain would also pledge to only one term, I wouldn't have to hold my nose at all.
Posted by: Don | March 30, 2008 8:12 AM
I'll be voting for romney anyway this Nov. Either as Veep, or as a write in. We got bullied into McCain, and I won't be bullied into anyone else But Mitt. He is by far the best qualified. The personwho thinks Kerry was a 'war heor, needs tocheck out the real record of Kerry. He was no war hero.

Mitt Romney and Condoleeza Rice are the two VP choices that would make me vote for Obama.
Posted by: David Anderson | March 31, 2008 11:42 AM
To "Dude"
The greatest liability we have in this country is ignorance and your comments clearly reflect that.
If you REALLY took the time to learn about Mitt Romney and could see beyond your arrogant egocentrism and if you truly cared about this country, you would realize that Mitt Romney is the only "adult" in the running. But then, I doubt seriously that you would recognize an adult if you saw one. Your immaturity and narrow mindedness are dangerous to this country.
Posted by: Renna | April 2, 2008 10:48 PM
Yes, of course, the business-savvy Mitt Romney would make a good running mate for the economy-disadvantaged John MacCain.
But look at the disgrace that has befallen Barak Orama for his religious associations. The same would surely happen to Romney when the news media picks up on the racist doctrines of the Mormon Church.
As narrated in the Book of Mormon, the good guys, the Nephites, were a fair-skinned people, whereas the bad guys, the Lamanites, being descendants of Cain, were punished by God with a dark skin. (Nephi 5:21, Alma 3:6) According to the Mormon prophet and leader Brigham Young, the “flat nose and black skin” of African Americans were likewise the stigma of Cain. It wasn’t until 1978 that an African American was accepted into the Church priesthood. Then there’s the Church’s history of polygamy and sexism, still much part of the Later Day Saint culture in rural Utah and Idaho. Only two women figure in the Book of Mormon, and only in minor roles.
So how could Romney explain his life-long faith to mainstream Christians?
Carlos Navarro

Mr. Navarro,
It was not the LDS Church who was racist until the 70's, it was our society. P.S., the Nephites and Lamanites were decendents of the same parentage. Nephi and Lehi were brothers. If you had read the Book of Mormon, you would know that the Lamenites were not the "bad guys". In fact, much of the time the Nephties were wicked and the Lamenites were righteous. In fact, the Nephites were destroyed because they could not stay righteous, the Lamenites were and are still promised many blessings.
Like most others who do not like Romney, their dislike comes from religious intollerance (and ignorance). How sad...in our country that was founded on the desire to practice our own religions freely.
As an LDS WOMAN who grew up in Utah and now lives in Idaho, maybe you should ask ME how sexist is my religion, eh?
Perhaps you should do a little digging (in the right places) and learn about how female members of the Church at the turn of the century were extremely active in women's sufferage. You have no idea how many opportunities, education, support, praise, and respect woman in the LDS Church receive (and I am pretty sure you don't care).
If you would like me to go on, I can give you the long or short version, but, I guarantee, it will be a more informed, educated version of yours.
Polygamy has NO PLACE in the Latter Day Saint culture anywhere for over 100 years!
Perhaps you should do a little research before you open your mouth... please.
Oh, and I too, join the long list of those who will get off the fence about being a republican when Romney joins McCain on the ticket!
-S.

There are some very hot, and unstrategic, anti-intellectual emotions in these posts.
There are some smart statements too.
Romney would be an excellent compliment to McCain. Like Obama, McCain's heart is in the right place, and like Obama, he's too weak on his own when it comes to the technical points and strategy (foreign affairs, the economy, systematic overhauls, etc). It's not enough to support a candidate that pulls your moral heartstrings, like Huckabee and Obama have done for so many. We need a POTUS that's smart enough to get the help he needs in his cabinet and support staff, to run OUR NATION right. Romney's record proves he's far more of a moderate than he presented himself to be during the race, to pander to the right (a necessary exercise for any Republican hopeful, unfortunately). He's a good man, and he's got the juice to seal the race for McCain, because so many people love from different sides love either man, for different reasons ("the vet and the business" is an easy, powerful spin that jumps to mind). Comment .48 and many others are right that Coulter can be inconsistent, but her approval is a sign that McCain needs a famous face, and that's his former rival. Such a move would also prove that McCain can focus on what's best for the Nation by putting petty rivalries aside, which is a solid move. McCain and Romney would be a dream team for many reasons. Any of you who care to discuss why, whether or not you agree with me, are invited to further discussion on U.S. best interest focuses, at youramericandollar.org We keep it respectful, pertinent, and intelligent at our house.
