Zogby sees late Clinton surge in Texas, Ohio: The Swamp
The Swamp

The Swamp

by Frank James

Maybe that Clinton ad that asked voters who they want in the White House to take those 3 am crisis calls actually worked.

John Zogby, the pollster, has detected voter movement towards Sen. Hillary Clinton in both Ohio and Texas in the days just before today's primaries in those states. Primaries are also being held in Rhode Island and Vermont but they're not really where the main focus is.

While Zogby still sees the race between Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama in both states as close, given the surge he's detected for Clinton among a broad range of voters in Texas and Ohio, it shouldn't surprise anyone if she winds up winning both states today. Still, it might not be by the kind of huge margins she would need to catch up in the pledged delegate chase.

Here's a passage from a release issued by Zogby International:

Pollster John Zogby: “In Ohio, there have been no dramatic changes. This has always been close, except that now the undecideds are up to 8%, and the increase has come from the Obama column. It looks like a combination of questions raised about Obama’s capacity to lead the military, his stance on NAFTA, and questions about ethics have shaved a few points off his support.

In an earlier posting, I reported that it appeared the Clinton ad didn't have a significant impact, based on the results of a large, Internet focus-group shown the ad.

But Zogby's survey suggests that it may have had enough of an impact to get Clinton past Sen. Barack Obama.

His statement continues:

“Clinton has not closed the deal yet, but she has picked up some additional support among women and older voters. Obama continues to lead in the big cities of Ohio, and it looks like Cincinnati is keeping him in this game. He has been working it hard, and has received the endorsement of the mayor there. But Clinton has opened up a big lead among Catholics – which, translated, means white ethnics.

“In Texas, Hillary had a slight lead in Sunday’s polling, which was enhanced by her lead in Monday’s polling, and those are the figures combined into the two-day rolling average of our poll. How did she pull ahead? She clearly increased support among white men and Hispanic men, mostly based on her late campaign focusing on her fitness for military command. She also enjoys strong support from white and Hispanic women. One thing that could prove significant is that much of Obama’s recent advances in the Houston area seem to have dissipated.

“Among those in Texas who were just making up their minds in the last few days, Hillary now leads by four percent, which pretty much tells the story.”

The telephone surveys also show Republican front-runner John McCain, the senator from Arizona, holding his edges in Texas and Ohio. He continues to enjoy a sizable lead over closest challenger Mike Huckabee of Arkansas. He has made gains among Texas Republicans and appears headed for victory in both states.

Hillary is throwing the kitchen sink and all the mud in her backyard at Senator Obama, and the U.S., being the nation that it is, will let some of that smear and slur stick on him. The Clintons' negative, win-at-all-costs, divisive, nasty, lying ruthless, relentless, dirty, me-first, dynastic-driven politics may yet win them the nomination. Woe then to the Democratic Party. Many of us citizens will believe, rightfully so, that the race has been won by cheating and bullying, just in the way the Republican swiftboating party wins elections. With Hillary, it will be the status quo, the way things are done in Washington, and a sure way to turn off millions of new Dems and senior citizen Dems like me. Even if the Clinton dynasty will return to the WH for eight more years (and who will clean up after them this time?), their dynastic rule will mark a deepening cynicism, apathy, and despair in the American people. It will not be change we can believe in, but more of the same old, same old we no longer want.

Can anyone say "buyer's remorse?"

Yes -- "buyers' remorse." good one. Shirl - your post is so funny. Anything but the Prophet Obama is more of the same, cynism, apathy and despair. You guys need a prozac drip!

shirl, I would not get overly concerned. While the media likes to report 'horse race' stories, the FACT remains that Obama does not need to win either race today. It is the delegate count that matters. As long as he is not blown out by Clinton in either race, his lead is still insurmountable. Obama will indeed be the next president and barring massive election fraud, it will approach the 1933 blowout.

You read it here 1st.

Go democrats 08!!! I don't care which of you gets the nod... McCain's gonna knock your block off when the issues trickle into the light.

I wouldn't have thought it possible, but maybe a few chips are developing in Obama's Teflon layer. Maybe his continually stonewalling the press is starting to hurt him. Hope springs eternal.

http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2008/03/sweet_obama_and_his_taking_que.html

Shirl, it's Obama supporters like you that illustrate that his campaign is really about the same old name calling and dirty tricks. Watch Hillary supporters stay at home or support McCain - all because Obama and his team of rabid supporters have been so vicious and hypocritcal.

Now we start to see the circular firing squad.

Get a grip my fellow Democrats.

One or the other has to support the winner.

Or else it's 8 more years of McBush.

McCain and Hillary will have a more tame, less nation-polarizing campaign this Fall. I see a liberal conservative and a conservative liberal. Obama will be easy to hit, because he IS inexperienced and there are more Republicans who'd vote for Hillary than there are Republicans who'd vote Obama - his position is very liberal. He's trying to coast on anti-war sentiment, but Hillary was just as opposed to war. He NEVER voted against the war, his healthcare plan IS as though written by the insurance companies. READ IT! Stop getting rattled and dazzled by charm and look at the issues, people. We don't need another inexperienced greenhorn at the White House. Enough of that! 8 years was enough.

As a 53 year old woman from PA who abhors Clinton's gutter tactics to get her foot in the door, I feel the cancer of the Clintons again dominating our national discourse. If she can't achieve on her merits, must she sow division among the Democrats and unity among the Republicans to keep the spotlight on herself?
Since she exploits her gender, she is open to criticism as a woman, by a woman: She is a pathetic role model for women to prove that they have an alternative to male bluster and macho swagger as the qualifications for the job.

Hillary is seriously intelligent woman and will make a strong leader. She also has a very big heart and will do everything possible to help the poor, elderly, unemployed, homeless, young people struggling, minorities, women, small business, veterans and more. This woman has it all going on, she is the whole package and so ready to be the President. To miss this opportunity would be a tragedy, to vote for an unproven rookie like Obama at a time when our Nation's future is in peril would be a huge mistake. Hillary all the way!!

Oh, we Obama supporters aren't worried at all. First of all, he has weathered the onslaught of lies Hillary has slung. I say "Is that all she's got?" So, that was her kitchen sink?

Canada apologized to Obama for their Prime Minister trying to insert themselves in this election. Nice try Bill Clinton but it didn't work!

And the Rezko trial is a dead end and won't stick. Another nice try Hillary!

Wednesday morning will shed a lot of light on all of this. Obama will be ahead in delegates, ahead in states won and more Superdelegates will flock his way in order to wrap this thing up because the worst thing in the world that has come out of this for Hillary is that she tried to sell her own Democrat up the river. THE DNC DON'T LIKE DAT! You mark my word.

Hillary pretty much shot herself in the foot for acting like a Republican in Democratic Primary, a political suicide mission.

Again, her judgement is reckless and too risky for the position of President.

The race is NOT over until one of the candidates gets 2,025 delegates needed.

The media and voters need to do more research on Obama’s background and voting record in the Illinois senate and the US senate, now that he is the front-runner. DIG DEEP, ASK HARD QUESTIONS.

We need someone who can handle the problems facing American families, like house foreclosures, health insurance, college tuition, gas prices, foreign enemies, etc.

Ask the tough questions. Vote with our heads. Voting for president is a serious business and we CAN'T AFFORD TO WASTE 4 YEARS ON SOMEONE WHO IS NOT QUALIFIED.

Go Hillary!
When the going gets tough the tough gets going.
She has the strength; she can fight back (long overdue, I might add), she takes her responsibilities seriously and she has a good plan for America.
Obama is weak and is not and will not stand up to scrutiny. The longer the race goes on, the more we will find out about Obama’s Mr Hyde’s side.

I am at a loss as to why you bloggers are suggesting that Shirl's comments are about name-calling and dirty tricks. . . Where have you all been?

HRC has challenged Obama's message of hope suggesting his supporters are "delusional". . . His response: he wants to get voters engaged in the political process once again; only when we're engaged do politicians actually feel accountable.

HRC has made much ado about nothing when it comes to Rezko, suggesting there is more there. . . His response: He admits he made a mistake. but because the story has been around for over one year with expert sleuthing and no one has found anything other than Obama's admitted mistake -- yes, he wants to turn the page and talk about something that actually matters. But more importantly, Obama has never ONCE hit HRC with her dealings w/ jailed fundraiser Hsu and the $950,000 she returned in campaign contributions; nothing from Obama about her former campaign manager Rosen being indicted; nothing from Obama about allegations of campaign misconduct by fundraiser, Peter Paul, also under investigation; not to mention, not a peep from Obama about Whitewater, Travelgate, Vince Foster, Lewinsky, NOTHING.

HRC then suggests he only gives good speeches and in fact, yesterday, endorsed JOHN McCAIN over Obama for political expediency, with no regard for the bigger picture looming -- how to beat the Repubs in the general election, and simply handing John McCain a campaign ad against the Democrats in the general election with her shenanigans.

Then, HRC equivocates about whether Obama is a Muslim; again for political points, preying on the fears of people, who, for whatever reason, think it's blasphemous to be Muslim, which of course, Obama is not.

At every turn HRC has gone for the jugular, has exercised absolutely poor judgment in her painstaking efforts to win this election at all costs -- Democratic party and the bigger picture BE DAMNED.

With all of the ammunition he has, Obama has taken the high-road, even when his supporters (me included) would prefer to knock her block off with a bombshell or two from her recent or distant past. Obama has refused, has tried to talk about their policy differences and their differences in judgment. Why? Because he has made a commitment to his supporters that he will not win this election with the political plays of the past, but only with talk of hope and a dream of bringing this nation together.

You may not like hope, you may not like Obama, but you cannot with a straight face EVER SUGGEST that he lacks integrity, honesty and sincerity. He knows he's taking a chance to try and uplift the American people, instead getting down and dirty with Hillary, and you know what -- he's fine with that, even if he knows he might lose the battle. In the end, he wins the war, and he knows that when it's all said and done, he can sleep well at night knowing he did the right thing, ran a terrific campaign, without resorting to the tactics of old and tactics of Clinton.
God Bless Him, and God Bless the United States of America -- especially if we fail to embrace Obama and what he stands for -- because we're going to need every prayer we can get if he loses...

OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA

I love you all!!

Hillary is gold and the voters from TX OH, RI and VT and starting to see that glitter is not as attractive as the real deal. With so much substance and intelligence Hillary is fit to be in the Oval Office. Obama, hmmm not ready to gamble on him just yet, maybe in a few years. Be wise and don't let passion select the wrong guy. Vote Hillary.

Weinerbrain, as usual you are clueless. If Obama loses Texas and Ohio, he would be in trouble, not on his way to victory. His delegate lead is not insurmountable. Also, if he loses both big states today, it would continue a string of Obama not winning many big states as he has lost New York, California, Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts and then Ohio and Texas. Most of the states he has won he will lose in the general election.
Approach the 1933 blowout? What is that whacky stuff you Loons on the Left ingest anyway??

Good post, Shirl. She'll tear down anyone to win. She'll do anything to win.

What does that say about her potential presidency? Likely that she'll do anything to get her way, and that her foreign policy may be similar to Bush's. I don't see her working toward peaceful resolutions. She's too aggressive without the give and take that's necessary.

Bemused, Shirl is obviously not a Hillary supporter, but no where in her post does she say she's an Obama supporter. I'm not even a democrat, and I find Hillary's campaign tactics deplorable. Obama has run a refreshing campaign compared to most, and I respect him for that.

The clash of Obama and Hillary supporters continues its ridiculous tradition in this comment string. I'm consistently impressed by the negativity on both sides. Earlier in the primary, Clinton supporters seemed much more casual and confident (there has always been a certain amount of bile in circulation for Hillary, but for the most part it had been confined to the fringe). Now, as it appears that Clinton's shot at the nom is slipping away, she and her supporters are getting meaner; in turn, the Hillary haters boil to the surface. At this point, nobody has the 'right' to be outraged. Many on both sides are acting like children.

That being said, I am a solid Obama supporter. I think that Hillary's claim to experience is flimsy. Does being a first lady really teach you something? Obama has spent more time as an elected official than she has. Hillary argues she can go toe to toe with the Republicans, which is great... if you really want to revive the existing blue/red state binary and relive the divisiveness that has characterized the past decade of American politics. They are both intelligent people, but Obama offers a new approach. People say he is superficial, but that's a fool's argument. He's a thinking man's president who is highly educated and has intelligent expert advisors.

The reality is that message matters too. Message matters both domestically and internationally. Hillary supporters get mad because their candidate doesn't have the message. She just has the ability. Obama has both. Let's make him president.

The Clinton's tactics over the last week will backfire. If she somehow wins today and then wins the nomination there will be a significant movement of Obama supporters to either sit out or vote for McCain, and McCain will win in November. A couple weeks ago I would have said that either Obama or Clinton would have been fine, but given her recent behavior I've changed my mind and joined the "Hillary - stop running for President and make me a sandwich" crowd.

From Newsday, looks like Clinton was the one that missed votes on Afghanistan because of campaigning.

"Department of glass houses

Hillary Clinton, beginning with the debate last week, has been complaining that Obama didn't hold any oversight hearings on Afghanistan during the past year as chairman of a foreign relations subcommittee on Europe, which has jurisdiction over NATO, which is fighting in Afghanistan.

Obama says he just took over the committee as his presidential campaign began. Hillary says that excuse isn't good enough.

Except, it turns out, her Senate committee -- Armed Services -- did hold a couple of oversight hearings on Afghanistan. And she didn't attend. Because she was campaigning.

David Corn: "As Clinton throws the kitchen sink at Obama, she ought to make sure nuts and bolts don't bounce back at her.""

http://weblogs.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/politics/blog/2008/03/department_of_glass_houses.html

Brokaw announced that there were 50 superdelegates ready to endorse Obama in the coming weeks. Terry McAuliffe lost his lunch. It's over for Hillary. It's time to focus on McCain.

Jon Zogby has zero credibility. His current poll is virtually the only one claiming Hillary is behind in Ohio. His repeated 'predictions' that she would lose big in states she won have sunk his reputation, and shown his bias against the Senator. His appearance on the Daily Show, after New Hampshire, was a disgrace. He gave no explanation for his wildly inaccurate poll and laughed about it, then went on to do the same on Super Tuesday. The media shouldn't be giving him the time of day.

The yellow rose of Texas is starting to bloom this morning!

Go Hillary!

Never underestimate the negative tactics of the Clintons. They pioneered the use of Lee Atwater win at all costs style and drove the party toward the right. I am a yellow dog dem, but I so do not look forward to Hillary being the candidate, with all the rehash of the last 20 years it will entail. Plus she will lose against McCain. Face it folks, she is just not that appealing. A better secretary of state in the Obama admin perhaps.

weinerdog43,
I sure hope you are wrong. Obama is not a clear winner yet and more and more, his cult is starting to fall apart. Even the media is starting to act neutral (FOR ONCE!)

Even the SWAMP is acting "neutral" due to the real possibility that this turns the tables around.

Moreover, Obama can not be an undisputed leader when almost half of the democrats think is Clinton. A divided party that will not be united if either Clinton or Obama win. Both want this bad and are very unlike each other to "partner".

I say Republicans stand to win the Presidential election at large, irregardless of my political ideology.

[weinerdog43 "shirl, I would not get overly concerned. While the media likes to report 'horse race' stories, the FACT remains that Obama does not need to win either race today. It is the delegate count that matters. As long as he is not blown out by Clinton in either race, his lead is still insurmountable. Obama will indeed be the next president and barring massive election fraud, it will approach the 1933 blowout"]

Annie,
Do you think Brokaw is an authority of political intelligence? Have you counted the times he's staff and self have been flat wrong?

And, it is not over until it is over. The more Hillary stays in the campaign, the more you see Obama faultering.

Like a previous commentator, I have to say that I would take my chances on Obama when he proves himself..... The presidential suite is no training ground... is an execution ground.

For now, if I'm to vote democrat, I would definitely choose Hillary. If that doesn't pan out, I would considering bolting to republican, despite the fact that I'd like to see republicans step off for at least 4 years.

[Annie: "Brokaw announced that there were 50 superdelegates ready to endorse Obama in the coming weeks. Terry McAuliffe lost his lunch. It's over for Hillary. It's time to focus on McCain."]

Whaa, whaa, whaa....Stop whinning and let your voices be heard in the voter's booth.

Rezko's trial has started so let's just see how the media and America spins this one...jeez. GO VOTE if you haven't already. Be part of history and not the problem.

GO SENATOR CLINTON!!! OH...IO!!!

John D.....You have forgotten that states coming up "after" today are ones that lean in Obamas favor.

Keith Olbermann had a segment on Hillary's "experience". He played a soundbite from the media conference call her advisors had. A reporter asked for a specific instance when she had been tested like the "3am" phone call. Her advisors were silent for several seconds.
They couldn't answer because she never has been in that position. Also, she never has NSC clearance when Bill was in office. She was never involved in the crisis' in Somalia, Kosovo, etc. All of her agrument about being tested, experienced and ready is complete BS. She is doing exactly what Obama did and fabricate an image. What's worse is she is now making McCain's argument for him by ripping apart Obama and her lack of foreign policy experience. What's better is that McCain while being an American hero for being a POW, he has never had to make that call as a Senator. He was never in a cabinet or administration, but no one will call him on it either.

Mike: You are a sexist bigot. You say "I've joined the "Hillary - stop running for President and make me a sandwich" crowd. What 'crowd' would that be? The anti-woman crowd? The 'Iron My Shirt' crowd? I don't believe for one second you ever supported SENATOR Clinton with such anti-woman remarks. By all means though, keep up the good work exposing the ugly sexist underbelly of many who oppose her. You will be eating humble pie for dessert.

Hillary Clinton will win Ohio and Texas. The voters will see to that.

Well if voter turn out and financial contributions are any indication it's pretty obvious that the GOP is in deep trouble. No doubt they will do everything legal and otherwise to turn this around but I don't see how that's going to be possible when even they can't stand their own leading candidate. I suspect they will find some right wing extremist to run with McCain as VP and try to sell the idea that McCain will die soon and this will allow them to get somebody in office whom most Americans would never vote for. Kind of like Cheney has been throwing his weight around for the last 7 years. But its going to be a lot of fun to watch McCain who's well known for being emotionally unstable and not real sharp on the issues trying to debate either Hillary or Barrack. I predict a bigger loss than Bob Dole. And, really, how can anyone respect McCain when he's abandoned everything he ever claimed to believe in just trying to win conservative support. Nope it's not looking good for him. In fact Ken Mehlman (the former GOP party chairman) predicted bigger losses for his party in 2008 than 2006. America has had it with the failed policies of the last 7 years. And that was before the economic downturn that's going to leave a third of Americans upside down own their homes by the end of the year. But the bright side for the GOP is that after the Democrats take total control in November the GOP can blame them for the fallout of 8 years of pathetic leadership. In the long run it will probably be good for the GOP to go down in flames in November so they can come back strong in 2012.

I hope this does not break the comments section.

This chart shows the expected projections less the delegates already won. Essentially, the math does not lie.

http://bp2.blogger.com/_1xQeOPE9ePU/R8x8hQnbX4I/AAAAAAAABLc/OX7_fj3gZmc/s1600-h/ambinder-projections.jpg

To Shirl, If there was not any mud to sling she wouldn't be able to sling it. Your favorite candidate isn't as clean as you may have wished. And besides he has been slinging some pretty low blows himself, just not at damaging as let's see NAFTA, "wink, wink," Rezko. She doesn't have to sling these two, the media has done a good enough job. When you play dirty it will catch up to you.

Shirl, couldn't agree with you more. She feigns self-righteous indignation (Shame on you, Barack Obama) but any even-handed assessment demonstrates that she is the purveyor of fear, negativity and blatant distortions of her opponent's record. That picture of Obama in traditional Kenyan garb...perhaps she didn't know about it, but isn't she responsible for those who work for her? She's an old school politician, hypocrtical and willing to do whatever it takes. She's the one running plays from the Karl Rove playbook. If voters in Ohio and Texas have been swayed by her underhanded, dishonest tactics, that truly would be a shame.

It looks like the media honeymoon is finally over for Obama.

Listen to him get testy at a reporter who had the audacity of hope to question his regal person:

"Come on guys; I answered like eight questions."

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/03/726268.aspx

You can tell he expected them to just bask in his aura again.

It's over, empty suit.

Winterdog43, You call being ahead 102 deligates insurmountable with nearly 600 still out there to be picked after today. I would say if she is experiencing a surge "as the article says" that the race is far from over. With a lot more dirt on Obama to be discovered, yea ha.

Rose, your are only one woman, and I am older than you by several years of experience in these things, so put your puritanical outlook away and realize this is politics in the US. It has always been whatever it takes to get there. Obama has put up some pretty dirty comments, it's just that his dirty laundry is a lot dirtier and more recent than Hillary's.

Jeff...I hardly find the reporters questions to be much different than the ole do you still beat your wife? kind of question. MSNBC...enough said.

Alexandria, Hillary and Bill had nothing to do with Canada and Rezko, little ol Obama did it all himself, so quit blaming the Clintons for Obama's dirty laundry. Don't believe that Rezko is a dead issue, it is just beginning to unfold, and as for Canada what did you expect them to say, do you think they want to make the U.S. mad at them? You can't cover him and his dirt any longer, the press is getting wise to him too.

You may not like hope, you may not like Obama, but you cannot with a straight face EVER SUGGEST that he lacks integrity, honesty and sincerity..

BrwnSknGurl,

- Obama has repeatedly lied about his position on NAFTA... he's for it -- he's against it -- he's for it again.

- He has lied about doing political favors for Tony Rezco.

- He has lied about taking money from lobbyists.

- He has watered-down legislation to suit his corporate masters.

Barack Obama lacks integrity, honesty and sincerity. I wish you could see my perfectly straight face right now.

YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT:-)

If you think Barack Obama with little or no experience would be better than Hillary Clinton with 35 years experience.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can fix an economy on the verge of collapse better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) led the greatest economic expansion, and prosperity in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience fighting for universal health care can get it for you better than Hillary Clinton. Who anticipated this current health care crisis back in 1993, and fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds to get universal health care for all the American people.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience can manage, and get us out of two wars better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) went to war only when he was convinced that he absolutely had to. Then completed the mission in record time against a nuclear power. AND DID NOT LOSE THE LIFE OF A SINGLE AMERICAN SOLDIER. NOT ONE!

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience saving the environment is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) left office with the greatest amount of environmental cleanup, and protections in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with little or no education experience is better than Hillary Clinton. Whose ;-) husband (Bill Clinton) made higher education affordable for every American. And created higher job demand and starting salary's than they had ever been before or since.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that Obama with no experience will be better than Hillary Clinton who spent 8 years at the right hand of President Bill Clinton. Who is already on record as one of the greatest Presidents in American history.

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think that you can change the way Washington works with pretty speeches from Obama, rather than with the experience, and political expertise of two master politicians ON YOUR SIDE like Hillary and Bill Clinton..

You Might Be An Idiot!

If you think all those Republicans voting for Obama in the Democratic primaries, and caucuses are doing so because they think he is a stronger Democratic candidate than Hillary Clinton. :-)

Best regards

jacksmith...

Hope Change Hope Change Hope Change Hope Change

Obama Zombies Unite! Let's do the wave.

The magic aura of Saint Obama is being replaced by the reality of a smug, smirking con man.

His arrogance, ignorance and dishonesty is a dangerous combination.

Man... those super-delegates are such a great respresentation of the elitist democratic party. Doesn't anybody see this??? So much for freedom...
Democrat leadership - "The voters can't have all the say in their candidate! no! They are way too dumb!"

Who supports Hillary Clinton? Ann Courter and Rupert Murdock to name a couple. That should seriously tell you something.

Okay, stop the empty suit garbage. If you want to know Obama's legitimate positions, it's as simple as visiting http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

And I can see why Obama would be frustrated with the Rezco questions. He's already answered all of the questions before and they are only serving to keep a non-issue in the media for longer than it deserves to be there. The same thing happened to John McCain against Bush in the Republican primaries of 2000. Someone throws an accusation out and our lazy media runs with it despite lack of evidence.

I'm not suggesting that Obama is perfect in any capacity (indeed, none of us are), but our public conversation needs a serious overhaul and he's the only viable candidate to do so at this point.

If Hillary's surge is real, then the Democratic hopes are going to get destroyed as Hillary and Obama continue to tear each other down. McCain must be overjoyed.

If Obama can prevail, I think he wins it all. If Hillary somehow pulls this out, she will be so weakened by the general election that she will stumble (unless Obama is her running mate, but she is making that a tougher sell every day).

Win the battle, lose the war. Clinton may win a couple battles by muddying up the waters, but she will not win the nomination.

After this thing is all over, she'll be glorified by some for putting up a great fight, but from as far as I'm concerned, from here on out, the Clinton name is MUD.

If Hllary wins the nomination, she'll lose the presidency when the Republicans drag her through the mud and the independents go to McCain and the kids for Obama stay at home in November.

Clinton will win many of the states Obama did; but she'll lose the close states he won from her.

RFB brings up a great point. There's no reason for Hillary to exit the race even if she doesn't sweep today. It's nigh impossible for either her or Obama to get the necessary delegates to clinch without superdelegates. This thing will come down to the convention (watch out for AlGore, guys!).

All right. I give up. It's hopeless. The McCain/Clinton coalition will crush poor Obama out of existence. He's doomed. Doomed I tells ya!

The almighty Jeff, Lil' Johnny the mime, RFB and the rest of mouth breathers have spoken. Let's just go home now.

Hillary = Swift Boating to victory in March. It's too bad it took smear and innuendo (that Clinton has neither rejected nor denounced) to bring down Obama. We'll find out later if Clinton's primary victories are pyrrhic.

If there is a late surge for Hillary its a media manufactured surge. Her campaign manager ranted and cried about not getting attention and respect and the media ate it up like horses at the stable. Doesn't anyone in the media ever think for themselves? How about all the democratic voters that Hillary has turned off to the political process. All Obama supporters and independents will either vote for McCain or not vote at all in the general election. Then we will see how happy the democrats are with Hillary.

"Who supports Hillary Clinton? Ann Courter and Rupert Murdock to name a couple. That should seriously tell you something.

Posted by: The Black Pearl"

You left out Rush Limbaugh, lol.

""I want Hillary to stay in this…this is too good a soap opera," Limbaugh told fellow conservative talk-show host Laura Ingraham on Fox News Friday. He reiterated the comments on his Monday show and replayed the exchange with Ingram.

He also said Clinton is more willing than the Republican National Committee and John McCain's campaign to criticize Barack Obama.

"We need Barack Obama bloodied up politically. It's obvious that the Republicans are not going to do it, they don't have the stomach for it," Limbaugh continued. "As you probably know we're getting all kinds of memos from the RNC saying we're not going to be critical. Mark McKinnon of McCain's campaign said he'll quit if they get critical over Obama. This is the presidency of the United States we're talking about. I want our party to win I want the Democrats to lose.”"

If Hillary loses her campaign workers can pick up where they left off working for McCain.

I can't understand why he won't "bloody" Obama when he has no problem taking on Catholics and Jews.

This is the same Zogby whose polling predicted that Obama would win by 10% in California. Instead, he lost by 10%.

Other than Swamp reporters too lazy to do their own analysis, who takes the Zogby Poll seriously?

Come November, every single Obama supporter and Hil supporter must unite and defeat McCain, regardless of who gets the nomination. A McCain presidency means a 3rd term for Bush - a disaster for our country and the world!

Jacksmith,

From your post it is clear that Hillary's husband did all of the work during his terms in office. I do not see where Bill's accomplishments rub off on Hillary.

Just because my spouse sat in the car while I changed the flat tire does not mean that my skill, knowledge, experience or reasoning ability transferred to my spouse.

If you are taking the position that by electing Hillary the country will actually get Bill to be the President, that is one thing. But if it is solely up Hillary to run things based on her own past, Bill’s past means absolutely nothing.

Your post clearly says that Hillary is nothing without Bill. No wonder she stayed with him even though he is a philandering dog.

Only one problem with the premise of the Swamp analysis: the "3:00 am ad" didn't run in Ohio, only in Texas.

Hillary is playing checkers ...Obama is playing chess ...while she's resorted to the Karl Rove playbook to secure marginal wins in Ohio and Texas ....he's been working the super delegates ....check

The longer this primary goes on, the more ad revenue these news outlets get. Every Clinton ad has been doubly aired: first as a paid spot, and then in an infinite loop on the news shows. I don't understand why the media feels the need to give Clinton all this additional air time. Apparently it's helping her message get out.

Zermatt, don't bother; Jacksmith hasn't had an original post in weeks (he/she has been cutting and pasting the same "comment" to every forum).

Jacksmith, again I say: YOU MIGHT BE AN IDIOT if you base someone's qualifications for presidency solely on the works of her spouse. HRC touts a 35-year record, but what has SHE really done (i.e., that doesn't involved her "better" half)?

The Obama-bots are becoming unhinged!

Bill Hussein R disses MSNBC, perhaps THE most liberal cable news outlet. Bill, in case you didn't know, NBC News has been a leading cheerleader for Obama. So much so that even SNL has been poking fun at NBC News' favoritism.

Then Peter Zenger, who says Zogby polling had Obama winning in California. Peter, please show the proof cause most of the polling I saw had the Queen B winning California. The only state in which the pollsters had it wrong was in New Hampshire.

And then there is Weinerbrain, who really is just as demented and deranged as his brother, John E.

Hillary's campaign runs fake news story ad. Guess she is doing the election limbo, how low can you go...

"Here's the script:

"This is an election news update with a major news story reported by the AP. While Senator Obama has crisscrossed Ohio giving speeches attacking NAFTA, his top economic advisor was telling the Canadians that was all just political maneuvering. A newly released document from the Canadian government shows that Obama’s senior economic advisor met with the Canadian Consul General and made clear that Obama’s attack on NAFTA were just, quote, “political maneuvering,” not policy. Political maneuvering, not policy. In fact, the document shows that Obama’s advisor also assured the Canadians that these attacks against NAFTA would not continue. Obama would not want to be, quote, “fundamentally changing the agreement.” As Senator Obama was telling one story to Ohio, his campaign was telling a very different story to Canada. How will Ohioans decide whether they can believe Senator Obama’s words? We’ll find that out on election day. Paid for by Hillary Clinton for President.""

Our present Republican administration is set up for a Republican win in November provided Obama gets the nomination: Trade a "Scooter Libby" pardon for Tony Rezko's grand jury testimony implication Obama in Rezko's money laundering scheme on the lot nextdoor to Obama's mansion.

KPO'M...isn't that the same person who posts on other blogs criticizing local politicians who have endorsed Todd Stroger. Hey KPO...how to account for Obama endorsing Todd? What hypocrites some of these Obama people are!

..You have forgotten that states coming up "after" today are ones that lean in Obamas favor.

Oh you mean states like Pennsylvania, Neb.,Mont., Wyoming, and New Mexico, bill Hussein? Yeah right !

I don't get all the Clinton bashing. Bill may not have been the greatest of human beings, but he was an exceptional President. Look at the deficit when he came, when he left and where it is now. I'd say he did a damn good job.
As for Obama, when people, especially politicians, seem to be too good to be true, they usually are. I'm not crazy about Hillary, but I think she's got more sack than any of the others.

all the right wing media are pushing hillary to the hilt cause thats who they want to run against in the fall.
