Clinton aide's apology backlash: The Swamp

Politics means sometimes saying you’re sorry – and, from time to time, running the risk of an international incident.

Mark Penn, political strategist to Hillary Clinton, was trying to end an unpleasant campaign story yesterday when he apologized for meeting with the Columbian government back in March.

(The Colombians had hired him to help get their trade deal with the U.S. approved by Congress, an unfortunate story development for Clinton because she opposes the deal, as do many of her supporters.)

But when Penn called the meeting “an error in judgment,” he angered some Colombians. In fact, according to an official Colombian government statement out today, he insulted pretty much all of them.

“The Colombian government considers this a lack of respect to Colombians,” the news release says, “and finds this response unacceptable.”

Apparently, the public apology doesn’t serve the contract mission to “educate members of the U.S. Congress and other audiences.”

The services of Penn’s firm will no longer be needed, at least not by the Columbians.

Clinton has crashed and burned her own campaign, she has no one else to blame but herself....and Mark Penn.

For the past month, Hillary Clinton has repeatedly attacked Barack Obama because one of his economic advisers met with Canadian officials in Chicago to discuss NAFTA.

Now the Wall Street Journal reported that her own chief campaign strategist did the very same thing on a new free-trade agreement with Colombia and today Mark Penn himself admitted it.

"Hillary Clinton's chief campaign strategist met with Colombia's ambassador to the U.S. on Monday to discuss a bilateral free-trade agreement, a pact the presidential candidate opposes." (less)

I am surprised at how long it is taking people to see the real Hillary. She has made so many gaffes/atrocities in just the course of this campaign--NAFTA-gate, Tuzla-gate, race and gender cards, threats and arm twisting of superdelegates, character smearing campaigns (e.g. Obama, Richardson), siding with McCain against her fellow democrat and so on. Why can't people still see through her. I refuse to believe that all the people still voting for her are racists. Some of them may be. But there is something else that people are clinging on to with her.

Seeing that Penn is CEO of one of the largest PR agencies in the world makes all of this understandable.

If he is pulling the strings, he is running this campaign as if it was a giant Public Relations project. And like any good CEO, he is trying to leverage two of his clients -- the government of Columbia and HRC -- to get a combined benefit. Hence, you get the Columbian President bad-mouthing Obama.

And like any slick PR honcho, Penn obviously see the truth as maliable, something that can stretch and twist and be reformatted to create a good story. So a former battlefield becomes alive with snipers, states with bad outcomes become unimportant, etc., etc., etc.

Another words, in Penn's world, reality shouldn't impact the objective...now where have we run into that philosophy before?......BUSH!

Clinton has a way of accusing her opponent of doing things or saying types of things that she herself is doing. PROJECTION

This type of campaign style is consistent with behaviors one sees among folks diagnosed with character disorder.

I would certainly bet that Mark Penn has a walloping character disorder, as does Karl Rove.

Politics seems to attract these folks.

When Clinton goes on the "accusatory" it is to draw fire away from her own actions, so this should be pointed out as a pattern immediately. This is clearly a tactic where Clinton gets the first sound byte, even for lies, then goes ahead with the very behavior herself.

$109 million - easily relates to Middle Class America.

See through the hype of the Billary Machine - it's all about the power grab.

Billary and the blue collar crowd? why? Seriously?

For crying out loud, it's Colombia, not "Columbia." My Lord.

And by the way, the report I saw about HRC's (and Obama's) opposition to the trade pact said that the candidates think the GOC allegedly hasn't done enough to stop violence against trade unionists. That is a load of unadulterated bull. Colombia is the oldest democracy in that hemisphere, and it needs all the political, economic, and military help it can get in defeating a terrorist organization that got $300 million from Chavez. Yet HRC and Obama are so outraged about rightist groups that they miss the forest for the trees. Let Colombia slip and watch what happens down there. Just watch.

….So let’s see if I have this right. When Rev. Jeremiah Wright – a man not employed by the Obama campaign in any way – made inflammatory and what some viewed as unpatriotic remarks, Senator Hillary Clinton asserts she would have got up and walked out of the room.
….So, now she has discovered, or been forced to publicly admit, that Mark Penn, a man who is employed by her as her chief strategist has been actively lobbying for a Free Trade agreement with Colombia which could potentially cost working class Americans thousands of jobs she :

a.) Walks out of the room figuratively by firing him
b.) Publicly denounces him and asks him to resign
c.) Says nothing at all, but allows Mr. Penn to apologize for “an error in judgment”

See if you can guess her response.
Pretty much the same as with Geraldine Ferraro .
Of course, she allegedly owes him over 2 million dollars, so that may make firing a trifle difficult…all that lovely money down the tubes ! Never mind, there’s another 109 million where that came from .

In the prophetic words of Oliver Cromwell addressing the Rump Parliament:

"You have been sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"
