Clinton's 'bowl-off' dare for Obama: 'Winner take all': The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Hillary Clinton challenged Barack Obama to a "bowl-off'' today.

"Winner take all.''

Sort of.

"I have a proposal,'' Clinton said today, deadpan at the podium. "Today, I am challenging Sen. Obama to a bowl-off, a bowling night, right here in Pennsylvania. Winner take all.

"I’ll even spot him two frames,'' she said of the rival who had bowled a 37 the other day. "It’s time for his campaign to get out of the gutter... (she said, to guffaws in the audience) and allow all of the pins to be counted.

"And I am prepared to play this game all the way to the tenth frame. And when this game is over, the American people will know, when that phone rings at 3 am, they'll have a president who's ready to bowl on Day One.

"So let’s strike a deal and go bowling for delegates,'' she said. "We don’t have a moment to spare... because it’s already April Fool’s Day.

"Happy April Fool's Day, everybody.''

Let Clinton bowl by herself Barack, she's broke and desperate for attention.

Clinton has to stay in this race, she has to continue getting campaign donations from her supporters in order to pay off all of the self-made Clinton campaign debts. Clinton should have canned her incompetent campaign manager, Mark Penn, a looooooong time ago.

"Cash-strapped Clinton fails to pay bills"
By: Kenneth P. Vogel- Politico
March 30, 2008 11:38 AM EST

Hillary Rodham Clinton?s cash-strapped presidential campaign has been putting off paying hundreds of bills for months ? freeing up cash for critical media buys but also earning the campaign a reputation as something of a deadbeat in some small-business circles.

A pair of Ohio companies owed more than $25,000 by Clinton for staging events for her campaign are warning others in the tight-knit event production community ? and anyone else who will listen ? to get their cash upfront when doing business with her. Her campaign, say representatives of the two companies, has stopped returning phone calls and e-mails seeking payment of outstanding invoices. One even got no response from a certified letter.

"Is Hillary broke"?
March 29, 2008
BY MICHAEL SNEED Sun-Times Columnist

Scoop du jour? Sneed hears major money problems in the Clinton camp may soon become a coroner knocking on her campaign door.

To wit: Word is the cash feeding into Hillary Clinton's campaign coffers has not only slowed down in a big way, undisclosed campaign debts that have yet to be made public could signal the end and have insiders biting their nails.

"Hillary needs to raise money to stay alive," a top Dem source said.

Bowling for Healthcare?

"Among the debts reported this month by Hillary Rodham Clinton’s struggling presidential campaign, the $292,000 in unpaid health insurance premiums for her campaign staff stands out."

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0308/9274.html

That was one of her better sports analogies, considering how basketball and baseball ones bombed.

Romney's 50 inning game was still the worst...

I wouldn't even trust her with a "bowl-off". She'd pay some pin setter to knock hers down with a stick.

And Bill would be hustling the women bar flys in the bowling lounge.

@ vince foster lives:

In the words of Bobcat Goldthwaite: "its a joooooooooooooke." Did you even read the entry?

Your utter hatred for all things Clinton (obvious of course merely from your nom de smear) is made all the more clear by your utter lack of any sense of humor.

She really needs to go away... Desperation is not attractive and that's all I can see coming from her.

"It's time for his campaign to get out of the gutter?" Please... When are we going to start hearing about her bowling a 300 in some tiny bowling alley in Ark. Any other half truths or made up situations that she wants to throw out there while she's on a roll? I would say it's your campaign that's in the gutter Hill!

Hillary and Rocky... Both couldn't figure out when to quit...

Boy, today sure would've been the day for her to announce her withdrawl from the race. She could've tested the waters to see the reaction and then took it all back with a jolly "April Fools Day" tomorrow if it did not bode well. See, that would be the most legit lie that she would've told in her whole campaign!

QUIT STALLING AND RELEASE YOUR TAX RETURNS.

Clinton would probably lie about her bowling score.

Of course Clinton's Bosnia tale would have a strong negative effect--HRC's lying or “misspeaking” constitutes a recognizable pattern, and reminds many of the cr*p from the previous Clinton administration.

What’s truly bizarre, though, is that HRC risks lying about “dumb” stuff. She must think she won’t get caught, although when she does get caught, she seems to casually shrug off her “misstatements.” It’s bizarre, almost pathological.

Here are three dumb lies that beg the question: Why would she lie about this relatively inconsequential stuff? And what does that say about her ability to tell the truth about difficult matters?

***Appearing on NBC's DATELINE, Sen. Clinton told Jane Pauley that Chelsea was around the World Trade Center on the morning of Sept. 11th:

"She had gone on what she thought would be a great jog," Hillary Clinton explained. "She was going down to Battery Park, she was going to go around the towers. She was going to get a cup of coffee and - that's when the plane hit!"

Hillary's dramatic story about her daughter's close call with the Twin Towers became a media sensation. "At that moment, she was not just a Senator, but a concerned parent," TODAY show's Katie Couric told viewers on 9/18/2001.
TRUTH: In the Dec/Jan 2002 issue of TALK magazine, Chelsea wrote that she was staying at a friend’s apt in Union Square, 12 blocks away. Her friend called with news about the first plane crashing into the WTC. Chelsea turned on the TV and watched the second plane crash.
"I stared senselessly at the television," Chelsea writes.

****Hillary started claiming she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary after she met him in 1995. Bill Clinton even included this “true” story in his 2004 autobiography. Thing is, HRC was born in 1947, and Edmund Hillary didn’t conquer Mt. Everest until 1953, when HRC was 6 years old.
TRUTH: In October 2006, a campaign aide finally admitted it was not true after all, that it was just a “sweet family story that her mother told her to inspire greatness.” This sweet story, however, had never before been mentioned anywhere.

***On numerous other occasions, including in her Iowa stump speech, Clinton has said, "We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady." And that lead to her being sent to Bosnia and coming under sniper fire.
TRUTH: Well, now we know.

Actually, what hasn’t been covered much are her cascading excuses or “misstatements” about this Bosnia tale, culminating in her saying this to KDKA radio in Pittsburgh on 3/25/08:
“I have written about this and described in many different settings and I did misspeak the other day,” Clinton said during a live 10-minute interview. “This has been a very long campaign….Last week for the first time in 12 years or so, I misspoke.”

Bizarro. No wonder Obama's lead has grown. It's a wonder it's not even bigger.

Maybe they can play a game of TRUTH or dare.

What, didn't Obama have the kiddie bumpers on his lane when he bowled? My 5 year old granddaughter had a 78 the other day. And we're supposed to be in awe of a guy who bowls a 37? I'm surprised the pinspotter machine even goes that low. Can you imagine-- even imagine -- if George Bush had scored even a 120 bowling? The media would be making fun of him forever. Wait til Saturday Night Live gets hold of THIS!

OK. I don't know who wrote the joke for her, but it's pretty funny! Will I vote for her? The answer is still "No"!

She would croak the minute she tried to throw the ball. How much has she even bent over at 60 to throw any heavy object? The bowling ball would probably take her into the gutter with it! Be careful what you wish for Clinton!

You've got to admit it, the Clinton cabal are master 'spinmeisters'. For those who think this is really an "April Fools" joke -- then joke's on you. Hill-Bill made the point she will no doubt continue to hammer away at all the way to the convention. God bless her evil heart!

Wow.. what a bunch of meanies. Don't any of you anti-Hillary guys have a sense of humor? Did you even get that it is April Fools day? Don't you appreciate analogies and metaphor? Or are you just reacting as a deflection to Obama's very poor bowling skills?

My question is why Obama put himself in the situation similar to Kerry's hunting trip.. the latter which backfired? And also what is this deal about going on a "blue collar" tour of Pennsylvania and both he and Casey cannot even bother to remove their ties... let alone find more appropriate clothing... John Edwards needs to give them some fashion pointers. Suits in bowling alleys and sports bars is way out of place... and the contrast is all the more noticeable.

Do we count in the popular vote being mentioned in this contest?I mean,Dems Abroad who voted overwhelmingly for Obama?!...

Talk about missing the forest for the trees. Guys this is a joke. Let it go. Why are you even commenting on this? Let the professional pundits on TV who pontificate about every little thing so they can earn their money play with this one.

Still amazed how quickly the dems have turned on the great Clintons. Strange how the Hilldog would have given the GOP a fight but the Dems are once again giving the election to the GOP. The lame GOP was smart enough to put someone who was middle of the road. Someone as far right as Obama is left would have never had a chance. Now with Obama the far lefty the indies like me are heading towards the middle, which is McCain. 6 months ago I was saying there is no way the Dems won't get in office, amazing how they managed to mess up a sure thing. The GOP right hated(still hates) McCain but the GOP at least saw better to have McCain then a Dem and got thru their differences/pains a while ago, to bad the Dems couldn't figure it out.

NOW that's the way this camaign should be conducted-- with humor and affection! At the end of the game, ANY Democrat will be better than ANY republican.

Hey Adam... Media Matters debunked the 911/ Chelsea claim... it was a figment of Dick Morris's imagination. Next time you state something as FACT... be sure to state FACT.

And so how about Obama's minor "misstatement" that JFK was responsible for his father coming to the U.S.... which is roughly equivalent to Hillary's "name" claim. But Obama went further and went on to connect the Selma marches to the meeting of his parents, when in fact, Selma happened years later.

Now what is really significant. (much bigger than any Bosnia story)... Is that Obama is advertising and making statements that he takes NO money from Big Oil... when in fact several Big Oil "employees/executives" have contributed to his campaign and are even bundlers of campaign funds for Obama. Note also that NO corporation is allowed to contribute directly to any candidate so that is a misdirected statement... and the difference between PAC's and organized contributors is mostly paperwork.

Obama is a slick speaker... Always listen to his parsing of words. He denied that his campaign met with the Canadian "embassy" on NAFTA. A lie? No not technically, but actually YES... because Obama knowingly used specific terms, because in fact his campaign economic advisor met with the Canadian "consulate" in Chicago. (The "embassy" is in Washington, D.C.) This is much also much bigger than Hillary's Bosnia story because Obama was intentionally misleading and it cost him many votes in Ohio.

Wow... just think if Hillary tried to pull this off. Actually, Obama is very much like Bill Clinton in his "depends on what the definition of "is" is."

Obama bowled a 37??? Is he retarded or something? I'm starting to agree with Joel Stein who describes Obama as "Erckel with a better tailor."

April Fools Hillary. Today, I finally understand your campaign in its fullest. However, chew on this, even a broken clock is right TWICE a day. Your campaign and lack of ideas are only right ONCE a year.

The only April Fool's joke here is Obama. It was funny how the media ignored his clumsy attempt at bowling until the Hillary machine brought it up. Now, before she exhilarates too much, let's see how she does...without the children's bumpers.

I saw Obama bowl. He's no Hillary Clinton.

Tell you what, though, Hillary. Quit now and you can wear bowling shoes the rest of your days in the Senate.

OK....it's not that I even like McCain, but don't you think your choices are bad when you're choosing between a former first lady and a Jr. Senator...???? I think the bowl off is a wonderful way to decide, it's probably the only thing they are both qualified for.

It was just a jokme - it is April 1 after all

Actually hearing that Barry bowled a 37 is pretty lame. 37 - that;s liek what a 4 yr old would post

I thought he was supposed to be coordinated (I guess the HS basketball prograns in Hawaii are niot that competetive)

37 - wow

wow, you obamites are getting nastier by the day. can't wait til this is over, hillary's the candidate, and you all end up w/your mouths wide open and egg on your collective faces.

Hello, Hillary, I hope that this is simply a bad April Fools Day joke. Remember, YOU ARE LOSING and you can only make goofy offers like this one if you are winning. Why didn't you propose this "bowl off" before the Iowa Caucus? It may have meant something then. However, if this is not an April Fool's Day joke, then you're simply too unstable to answer any phone at 3 a.m. let alone one that requires a coherent foreign policy response. Either way, please quit harming the Democratic Party and get out of this race now with the little dignity you have left.

Eh, challenge him to a swim meet.

What won't Hillary do to gain attention? And WHAT won't she do to win?

Did you see the photo of the ex-Pres with young women.....again? Maybe she should keep her eye on that dog. Afterall at 3 am when the phone rings, it may be Bill calling for a ride home.

.... Let her bowl "while ducking under sniper fire" and see how well she scores-it'll ruin her natural hook-errrr maybe not..nevermind

Somebody tell Hillary the writer's strike is settled. She should NEVER write her own material...

If this riff came from her staff, those people should be fired immediately...

"At the end of the game, ANY Democrat will be better than ANY republican." -Tony Grimwade

This is where everyone is missing the boat. There is virtually no difference between Democrats and Republicans anymore. One taxes and spends, one spends on credit. Either way, the country loses. Obama, Hilary, McCain, it's all the same. They are consolidating power and robbing us of our future. Vote Libertarian to make this country great again.

Immediate reactions:

1 - I'd never vote for her, but might like her just a bit more if I thought she was capable of thinking of a gag like that on her own.

2 - It would have been a lot funnier, had she: a) Not attached the whole dig at Obama and stupid bowling puns about staying in the race at the end of it, and b) Actually allowed herself to laugh at the end of it (she might appear to actually be human).

My daughetr bowled a 54 and she is 6 w/out the bumpers. Bowling a 37 is pathetic but it just further shows Obamas lack of connection to the "working man".

“Why do I have to keep proving to people that I am not a liar?!”
-Hillary Rodham Clinton, 2000

Show me a liar and I will show thee a thief, says the old adage. No truer words were ever spoken. But lying on a grand scale, for political gain runs the gamut. To this day, many believe FDR orchestrated Pearl Harbor; or, that if he hadn't he should have. Yes, Hillary Clinton is a manifest liar. And, Hillary will continue to lie. But thank goodness for that. “Chill out” and let this woman go bowling, let her lie. She's going to get caught; just you wait and see: http://theseedsof9-11.com

My recommendation for all the Clinton lovers out there is this: Go to You tube and watch the twelve part series on the secret life of the Clinton's. If that doesn't open your eyes Nothing will.

I think Obama better stipulate:

Electronic scoring only.

The game really does end at the 10th frame.

If everyone agrees before the game not to have a beer frame, no adding one mid-game.

Saying you will win next weeks game doesn't count for anything.

No arguing who won in the bar after the game in order to try and change the results.

Question, will Hillary bowl while dodging bullets and sniper fire? Will her bowling ball pin wheel into the pocket to avoid the sniper fire? Will she run into the bowling alley to avoid the sniper fire?

OMG...what a pathetic woman! I wonder if anything original has ever come out of her mouth...besides the many lies, of course. Those are all hers!

To: Hillary and Obama both of u are running under the same campaign (Democrat) so why can't u both just join together and became one, which will make u both stronger. God bless u both.
Kathleen Ervin

ADAM, broken record!!!

It was a joke, loosen up people. Obama supporters are getting very nasty. Are you afraid she might win?

You all talk abour Clinton's lies. But I find obama's lies about have heard his minister damn America it the worse kind of lie. Two different occasions he lied on CNN and then a week later he admitted that he was aware of Wright's cursing America. Worse than that he took his children to these services. What kind of people will they grow up to be? Wake up people obama is not what you think he is.

Hmmm... i for one never imagined Hillary Clinton ever had a 'ghost' of a chance once the country's true colors came out. It really never mattered how talented and experienced that woman was... all it ever came down to was the fact that she was a 'woman' and that was that. I think John Lennon said it better than anyone in his album 'Live in New York City' (released posthumously). For those of you too young the lyrics went something like,

'We insult her every day on TV and wonder why she has no guts or confidence while putting her down for being dumb, we put her down for being dumb '...chorus...' You don't believe me - take a look at the one you're with. Woman - she's the slave to the slaves - oh yeah! If you believe me, you better scream all about it '...chorus'.

Do you remember the title to this song? I'm imagining many of you who are absolutely dedicated to Obama can't even remember who John Lennon was. That's why I feel like screaming about it myself!

Bones said,

She really needs to go away... Desperation is not attractive and that's all I can see coming from her.

Right on, Bones! It's going real bad real quick.

Anonymous, don't waste your breath on these Clinton haters. They will take anything you can actually prove about obama and spin it into an oops. But let Hillary have a hair out of place and they will pounce like a cat after a mouse.

Hillary has a great sense of humor! We need that, along with experience! Forget OB!

Spector, somehow I don't think I want to see him in a bathing suit.

Strut2k, maybe she should get obama's writers to write for her. I'm sure he doesn't write his own stuff. You can tell the he stutters and pauses that he is having a hard time reading the prompters.

Jim Griffin, do you actually believe that stuff on u-tube? Boy you are dummer than dumb.

Funny how many of the liberals have turned on Bill and Hillary. Not so long ago, 95% of you worshipped the ground they walked on. Time to take a look at yourselves and evaluate your own twisting in the wind. Only one or two of you are smart enough to recognize that these two need to call a truce. (But they now hate each other too much. Say what you will about the Republicans, but at least they know where to draw the line.)

The Wall Street Journal, other national newspapers and news outlets are all reporting that Ms. Clinton's campaign is experiencing financial difficulties, which includes owing $3,000 to her old high school and money to several small event planning vendors. I have concluded that Senator Clinton DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH MONEY to even rent shoes to bowl, let alone challenge Senator Obama to a bowling match. Why, bowling lanes cost money by the hour and while Senator Obama has over $31 million in his campaign coffer, Ms. Clinton is $8 million in the red. SHOW SENATOR OBAMA THE MONEY FIRST, SENATOR CLINTON, then challenge him to a bowling match!

I think somebody ought to tell Hilary that Rocky DIDN'T WIN.
He won the rematch.
I rather not see the rematch, and I certainly don't wish to see Hilary calling for Bill win the fight is over.

If Obama loses, he'll blame it on the white pins.

She has studied her husband. It's so wierd to see a woman do an exact impression of her husband's facial expessions and intonition. Hillary is not Bill, and people would be foolish to accept that they are the same. Hillary played a leading role in her husband's most spectacular failures. Just because the Republicans hate her doesn't make her a good candidate. We need to get beyond tribalism; there's too much at stake.

Bowling for the presidency? Yeah. That's the ONLY way she's got a chance of winning this and I just don't see THAT happening.. Much like the Michigan Florida votes that she agreed wouldn't count when the campaign first started.

"Media Matters debunked the 911/ Chelsea claim... it was a figment of Dick Morris's imagination. Next time you state something as FACT... be sure to state FACT."

No--I read the Media Matters article myself. Read the quotes from HRC and Chelsea for yourself. You'll see that HRC's account does NOT match what Chelsea said. HRC did lie...or "misspeak." Here's part of the Media Matters report:

From the September 18, 2001, edition of Today (according to the LexisNexis transcript):

KATIE COURIC (co-host): Since being elected to office, New York's junior senator, Hillary Rodham Clinton, managed to keep a relatively low profile until terror struck in lower Manhattan. At that moment, she was not just a senator, but a concerned parent. She recently sat down with "Dateline NBC's" Jane Pauley to talk about that morning.

PAULEY: Tuesday morning, Senator Hillary Clinton's first thought when the second plane hit was terrorists. Her next thought was Chelsea, who was not only in New York, but staying downtown.

CLINTON: She'd gone, what she thought would be just a great jog. She was going to go down to Battery Park, she was going to go around the towers. She went to get a cup of coffee and -- and that's when the plane hit.

PAULEY: She was close enough to hear the rumble.

CLINTON: She did hear it.

PAULEY: And to see the smoke in person, not on television.

CLINTON: No. Of course, Bill was in Australia. And, you know, he was so upset by what he was seeing on television that I didn't want to tell him that I couldn't find her until I found her. I told him that, you know, everything's fine, don't worry. But I couldn't do it with the level of assurance that I needed until I could find her a couple of hours later.

Here's what Chelsea wrote in TALK magazine:

"When the World Trade Center collapsed on Sept. 11, I was 12 blocks away, (and) nothing has been the same since," Clinton wrote in the December/January issue of Talk magazine, on sale Friday in New York.

[...]

Clinton had been staying with her high school friend Nicole Davison in her apartment near Union Square for a few days in September before she went to England to study at Oxford. After they had coffee together, Davison went to work and Clinton returned to the apartment.

Davison called Clinton with the news of the first plane that crashed into the World Trade Center. Clinton turned on the television and watched the second plane crash into the second WTC tower, and tried to reach her mother in Washington, but after speaking to her assistant, the phone line went dead.

DO NOT JOKE! This is serious. I heard Mrs. Clinton says her best score at bowling was 785. Anyway, she is right as always. This is the one way she could win against Obama.
