I think what was implied last night is that Hillary can change, but no one else can. Guilt by association is a dangerous game, and the Clintons really shouldn't play.

You can only forgive someone for what they have done if they are sorry for it. Ayers has repeatedly said that he would do it again and that he did not do enough (re: bombing of federal buildings). Obama's camp is obviously concerned about the association that he had with Ayers because his campaign manager excused it by saying that Obama's and Ayers' children went to the same school. The problem is that Obama's oldest child is 10; Ayers' youngest is in their mid-20s so their excuse doesn't hold water. That should be a red flag right there but most of the media and public is just looking away from it instead of asking why the lie.

Isn't it nice to hear DAMayor tell us not tarr Obama over Ayers.

Frank, he also wrote that he would do it again in a New York Times Op-Ed just days before Al Qaeda bombed the twin towers with airplane missiles on 9/11. I'm more miffed at Northwestern and UIC for giving people like this access to the youth of today to preach their activism and hate.

Although I am a Republican, the debate showed me the impact that white female voters over 45 years of age will have in Pennsylvania and throughout the country. Those are Hillary's core voters. The only way Obama can overcome the inherent backlash from those older white women, when he does not select Hillary as his VP, is by selecting Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebellius or Missouri Senator Claire McCaskil. This is a more compatible ticket and answere the question of whether the country is ready to vote for a women or if they are just reluctant to vote for a woman named Clinton.

Unfortunately for the Mayor and Obama facts are ugly things -

William Ayers was a founding member of the Weather Underground - The group was a violent anti war organization who’s charter was the overthrow of the United States government. They bombed the Pentagon, the US Capitol and a number of NY City police stations.

William Ayers own girlfriend and 2 other members of the group were killed by a bomb they were building to use against military recruiters at Fort Dix. The group also killed 2 police officers and a security guard during a botched bank robbery-the purpose of which was to gain funds to further their terrorist activities.

William Ayers has never renounced his actions and to this day defends them and laments that the group had not done more. Look it up.

Obama knew exactly who this man was and yet chose to nurture a personal and professional relationship with him. I’m sorry, but someone aspiring to the Presidency of the US does not do that and anyone who thinks otherwise is sadly mistaken.

As for Obama comparison of his relationship to Ayers and Bill Clinton’s pardoning of two of the groups members - it is absurd to equate the two - first of all Bill Clinton pardoned them, not Hillary - and second - the two women pardoned served nearly 2 decades in prison, renounced their past activities and swore an allegiance to the US to gain the pardon - a far cry from what Ayers has done.

If Ayers is such a dangerous terrorist then why isn't he in jail instead of being a professor at a major university?

What matters is not Obama's association with Ayers, what matters is what the Department of Justice thinks of Ayers

I'm not faulting Obama for what Ayers did 40 years ago, I'm faulting Obama's judgement for continuing to associate with him when his views have not changed since he organized multiple bombings 40 years ago.

I can't get over how many individuals the Clinton's have known who have served time for illegal acts, yet so much as been said about Obama's association with someone who entertain him at his home, and gave him $200 for his campaign.

The issue is that Ayers is an unrepentent bomber and terrorist. Ask the parents of the young girl in Dwight, IL. how their life has been since a bomb killed their daughter at Ayers' Weatherman hideout of Ayers. Maybe you should read the indictments against Ayers and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn. And maybe should read why the radical SDS at the time would have nothing to do with the Weathermen. Then see if you want people like that as friends of your president. If you do, it's time to move to Berkeley.

I don't know if I am on the same page as any of the three remaining major party candidates, but I can not see an association with Billy Ayers in a negative light. I heard and have read about the Ayers contact and wonder how many people we come in contact with and interact with on a daily basis that have skeletins in their closets. We are not branded by those contacts. We must remember that Sen. Obama had been on the board for several years before Mr. Ayers was put on the board and how much say does one board member have concerning who is on a board. Do the critics suggest that he should have resigned from the board? I hope not we would have few good people serving on boards if we took that approach. Mr. Ayers has explained not having regret for the bomings because of them being a response to the thousands upon thousands of deaths each day of the vietnamese people. I find that understandable. The fact that the war continued for years after all the attempts, is why he says he didnt do enough. Despite having done all that, the war still raged on... READ IT! If you're trying to change something and nothing happens... YOUR NOT DOING ENOUGH, DUH.

Having the balls to stand up to a government who can send its police on raids to kill Black Panther Party members, run past and present unjust wars, and set up a system designed to keep its people so involved in its own pool of worry, (how can i pay for college? what if i get sick? how am i going to pay for all that? i need to keep this job, i need to obey) that they choose to "look away" from what the government is doing, is something that is commendable. I am shocked and appalled at the widespread ignorance and blatant hatred on the part of many on this forum. The fact of the matter is Obama knows Ayers, as he knows many, many people, and that, in no way, has any impact on who he has is as a candidate. To buy into such a notion is to be a victim of the media circus and to play into the game of politics that keeps us from moving forward as a country. We need to focus on the real issues, people, not completely irrelevant topics or distant relationships that have no bearing on the election. On another note, I saw Bill Ayers speak at a recent conference at DePaul University and am familiar with his current work as an educator and school reformer…the work he is doing today is unbelievably important in turning our ailing school system around. He is one of the few people in this country bringing about meaningful change in this country on the education front, and this affects all of us that ever intend on bringing children into this world. Before prejudging someone, read the facts, understand the subject, and avoid falling into the media circus that only focuses on the negative side of someone's career or past, however fleeting or distant, which holds for Rev. Wright as well. I welcome you to dig through the thousands of hours of sermons that he has delivered over the last several decades and dig out the three minutes of aired footage by the likes of Fox News that have infiltrated the media. Even those clips that have been aired ask some very powerful questions that, unfortunately, most people refuse to consider and, rather, write off the person that spoke them as a raving lunatic or anti-patriotic. Is it unpatriotic to question flawed policies, such as state-sponsored torture or flawed war policies?

Please, everyone that spouts hatred, fear, and negativity on this forum against Ayers, Wright, and others…do your research and don't accept what you hear at face value. It will change your life completely to know the whole side of something.

Yes, I know Obama said that he was only eight years old when Bill Ayers was throwing bombings. Let's not forget that Obama was a forty year old adult when Bill Ayers published his book without regret setting bombs, yet Obama has no problem accepting him as a fundraiser and had fundraiser party at his house.

Anyone with normal intelligence ought to understand "No regret for setting bombs" does NOT mean 'no regret for opposing the Vietnam War' at all.

Bill Ayers is a disgrace to the education system in the US which allows such an unrepentant and despicable person to be teaching young people in any school and university, especially when he had bombed the Department of Health, Education and Welfare which had nothing to do with the Vietnam War.
It is also a shame for Obama to be associated with Bill Ayers who launched his political career. Obama allowed Bill Ayers to be his fundraiser and had fundraisers party at Bill Ayers' house.

Come on Chicagoans! Stop your loud shrieks! The Clinton represents a "bygone era" and they want to stay stuck in the past - bringing up things that have no relevance anymore. If she wants to stay stuck in the past, then we can begin bringing up every single scandal caused by the Clintons, including the sex scandals. An important overlooked point here is that all charges were dropped against Ayers. From an official standpoint he's an innocent man. So, anyone who believes in basic principles of fairness, or cares about law and order would reasonably need to regard him as innocent. Therefore criticizing Obama for connection to him is even crazier as it's based on the individual acting as judge and jury against Ayers.

O.J. Simpson was also tried and found not guilty and we all agree with that verdict.
All charges against Ayers were dropped due to misconduct during the long search for the fugitives.
That does not make him INNOCENT, just lucky.
After 9/11 an article came out in the N.Y. times where Ayers was quoted as saying, ''I don't regret setting bombs,'' Bill Ayers said. ''I feel we didn't do enough.''
Wright is even scarier, after his spheel at the Press Club, I would not trust anyone who was associated with him for 20 years. PERIOD!
It took me 3 days of interviews to know EXACTLY where that man is coming from!!!
It is an insult to everyones integrity that ever went to church to believe that Obama didn't know what Wright is about.

After reading this and other blogs relating the the Obama-Ayers "relationship", I came away with three observations: 1) our educational system has failed us; 2) propaganda and sound bites are purveyors of all our "knowledge"; and 3) hate is alive and well in the good old US of A. Just remember that without rational thought, rational expression, and critical evaluation skills our nation and our Constitution are in serious trouble. I know when I see BS, but it looks like half of you don't!

WOW! I would think that Mr Daley won't be the Mayor of Chicago next time around! I hope! What a shock saying that Ayers nationally distinguished Chicago known-etc. Now he is nationally know for being a LOON! He did not regret it- Mayor!! I lived in Chicago at a time, and all over the US- Chicago is the most screwed up City I've ever seen, so Im not suprised it produced people with these attitudes -radical lefts full of HATE! Like Ayers and Rev. Wright. I suggest they start praying for fogiveness, get some therapy, and start being FRIENDLIER to people and GROW UP! Chicago is the only city that if you say hi to someone they look at you like your nuts or think to themself-Do I know you? Michelle Obama is also a product from a failed system being around South Chicago for 20 years would mess up your head- with all the crime,and listening to guys like Rev Wright & Bill Ayers etc. , so why would Barrack be any different, he doesnt seem to have any associates that are not hateful and negative-so his Change Hope speeches sure don't mean anything! Maybe its time for a new Chicago Mayor- to correct those places-to get their priorities in line! Heck - you can't even get a good job in that city unless your wearing expensive designer clothes! Midas well not even go to the interview unless your wearing Vera Wang. Chicago is a mess, so why even listen these people- you teach negative you learn negative you give negative! Vote McCain!
