Maybe it was something that Barack Obama said today -- about how he had beaten Hillary Clinton in 11 straight contests "and that didn't knock her out.''
Whatever it was, Clinton appeared ready to run the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art today when she declared that she has something in common with that legendary boxer of film fame, Rocky Balboa.
Quitting now, the senator from New York said today in Philadelphia, would be as "if Rocky Balboa had gotten halfway up those art museum steps and said, 'Well, I guess that's about far enough."'
"Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing a fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never give up. And neither do the American people," Clinton said with an allusion to the 1976 Oscar-winning film starring Sylvester Stallone.
These are among the remarks from her appearance at the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. Clinton warned that Democrats won't have an easy contest with Republican John McCain, and that Obama may not be ready for the match.
"The Republicans aren't going to give up without a fight," Clinton said. "But one thing you know about me is that when I say I'll fight for you, I'll fight for you... I know what it's like to stumble. I know what it means to get knocked down. But I've never stayed down, and I never will."
Of course, the Republican National Committee was ready with its own Rocky reprise, tape from FOX News of Sylvester Stallone's own words about the campaign: "I like McCain a lot...
"There's something about matching character with the script,'' Stallone says. "And right now, the script that's being written in reality is pretty brutal, pretty hard-edged, and like a rough action film... And we need somebody... who can deal with it.''

Rocky is a fictional character. So I see where Clinton got her Rambo fantasy from also. Those crazy Clintons.

That's right she's just like Rocky, which is one of the reasons we need to keep her out of the White House. We need someone that has the ability to discuss, negotiate, understand, and be willing to see someone's elses point of view to get things done.
I know she seems proud of her fighting abilities, but what do we tell our children about bullies? There are many ways to fight intelligently and win.
I pray that she does not win this nomination and the only way she will is to steal it, and we all know this in our hearts.
Imagine her trying to get a bill passed or get congress to come to her side on a issue, imagine that. Her fighting spirit will only make people back away just to show her that she does not own or control them. Yes, the fighter is not what America needs. She should have been fighting against the war and fighting for our children, friends, family to be at home, not tied in a war that never should have happened. We were never in immient danger from Iraq.
A real figher I gues, but only when it will win her a nomination. This woman is not for the people and that is evident, she is for carrying on the Clinton legacy.

But even Rocky was able to recognize when the bell had rung. The fight's over, but Hillary keeps swinging blindly.

Did Rocky lie a lot?

Anyone thing Rocky was bright enough to be President?
Did Rocky tell a lot of fibs?

Its only a matter of time now before Hillary delivers the knockout punch. Go Hillary!!

Rocky lost.
Posted by: Randy | April 1, 2008 1:54 PM
didn't Rocky lose the first fight? He was not very bright. In one movie before fighting Lang, he is told the previous fights he did win were "set up". And Rocky is a fictional character, which is the same as everything that comes out of Hillary's mouth.

Politics is an arena for contest of will and determination to fight for a cause; democratic political electoral game is not only in a irrational mirage pusuit of identification between candidacies and voters ,and but also in oportunistic politicians's bandwagoing in pursuit of their power and opportunity. Hilary desreves a full fighting chance like Rocky.Cheers!

Maybe she has something else in common with Rocky. Roid rage would explain many of her insane attacks on Obama.

They've both been hit in the head too many times???
Posted by: larz | April 1, 2008 2:02 PM
Funny - She's comparing herself to a 1976 movie where the title character, "Rocky" LOSES THE FIGHT.
Sorry, Hillary. You're batting 0-for-2 with the Stallone references (the first being your "Rambo-esque" entrance into Bosnia).

And like Rocky, McCain is fighting well past his prime and has endured significant neurological and emotional damage because of his past experiences.
Sly Stallone only knows how to make one-man-savior, pro-US, pro violence movies. This isn't the script that I want for the U.S.
yes WE can. and we can do it WITH the world and WITHOUT excessive military action.

Yes, rocky lost his first fight to a black man too...ha.

Who wants to go back to 1976?

The democrats have been behaving in a disgustin way. My vote will go to McCain. He has proven himself to be a mensch.

Stallone said: "I like McCain a lot... "
Yep, so get ready for "More Blood: President Rambo part II" if McCain is elected.

Yeah yeah yeah, as we're all learning Hillary Clinton is ALL TALK and NO ACTION, that is exactly why she tried to pin that on Obama. She's just like George Bush, addicted to photo ops, just look at those gloves. She try to throw a left jab and a right cross she'd knock herself out then get back up and stay "Wow, that was a good fight, I really knocked my opponent out!" HA! Obama '08!!!

Let's get real here. There isn't any comparison to Rocky. For a woman who claims she's as tough as he is, with morals and integrity, she didn't protect hers when her husband saddled up with another woman in the oval office. God help us she doens't become President. I don't want her showing my kids how to rollover and take it up the a**.

THE ONLY THING ROCKY ABOUT HILLARY...IS HER PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN!
Posted by: betty | April 1, 2008 3:37 PM
Hmmm, would that make Bill, "Rocky the Squirrelly" ?
Posted by: John, Las Vegas, NV | April 1, 2008 5:11 PM
Good God, the woman will do anything to win a few votes, even comparing herself to a cartoon character.
But I guess she is right about "Rocky" never quiting.
What has Stallone made, half a dozen of those dumb movies?
Judging by the ads, he looked like a bad job of embalming in the last one.
He never quits, but again as with Clinton, a lot of people wish he had quit a long time ago.
Posted by: John Chuckman, Toronto, Canada | April 1, 2008 6:26 PM
Uh, did Hillary see the movie?
Does she know that Rocky loses to the black guy?
His only victory is that he doesn't get knocked out.
This may have been a more apt metaphor to what is actually going to happen than she supposed.

Behaving worse than Bush/Cheney and their illegal war??? Worse than 4,000 brave Americans dead and tens of thousands wounded??? Worse than republicans whp serve as stooges to KBR and Blackwater??? A vote for McBush is a the vote of a traitor!!!

Cheney, Obama, McCain, they have big EXPENSIVE PLANS for all of us.
The costs, we'll pay for them, and uh, oh yea, we will scream about the Recession the whole time we do it.
Let's educate ourselves about the Nuclear Power Plants already in the works by Obama, McCain, and their good buddy Dick Cheney.
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=3258
Does President Jimmy Carter and Al Gore want to go back in time to Nuclear Waste, to Cancer in children who live near these power plants? Go back in time to handicapped children being born near these Nuclear Power Plants?
I know one thing for sure, the BIG MEDIA on our televisions do want this, because of WHO PAYS THEIR BIG SALARIES!
No wonder the star of "Silkwood", Cher supports Senator Clinton.
What happen to windmills? Wind is too cheap to use for Cheney, Obama, and McCain I suppose they need a great money making scheme, even during a Recession.
How many of the 29 will be built in Texas, since Cheney is behind it all?

Obama lies. The media just uses another word for it. We have a double standard. A misspoken or misremembered situation of Hillary is a lie, but when Obama tells a lie it's not a lie.
I call these lies.
"He's just a guy in my neighborhood" (Ayers)
"I never heard Rev. Wright say those things"--had no idea he believed those things.
Stated he got $100,000 less than he got from Rezko as donation.
