Sen. John McCain, or the comedian playing him, assured himself that there had been quite a lot of progress in Iraq during the testimony of Gen. David Petraeus, or the comedian playing him.

“Any other progress?’’ the McCain asked the Petraeus in Saturday Night Live’s rendition of the hearing on NBC last night.

“There’s a new Sunni-Shi'a softball league,’’ replied the general, interrupted by an aide whispering in his ear. “I’m sorry that league was disbanded. It’s now two rival death squads.’’

Sen. Hillary Clinton, or the comedian playing her, piped up: “I and others who have opposed this war from the beginning….’’

“I thought you voted for the war…’’ the Petraeus said.

“Who told you that? That’s crazy,’’ the Clinton said. “Everyone knows I ha been against this war my entire life... Now, can I ask you a question about sniper fire?’’ the Clinton asked. “Would you say that sniper fire can often be very quiet and hard to detect? Especially on videotape?’’

“I suppose,’’ the general replied.

With the introduction of a guest from another committee, the comedian playing Sen. Barack Obama, the McCain and the Clinton complained to the chairman that the Obama is not even on this committee.

“Listen,’’ said the chairman, a stand-in for Sen. Carl Levin, “the guy’s gonna be the next president.’’

Weapons profiteer and media giant NBC clearly wants mo money from Barrack Hussein Obama’s divisive campaign.
Nicely lit piece though. Was that an old Joe Piscopo in a uniform?
How nice to hear oil revenues discussed in relations to this disastrous war—even in a GE-managed comedy troup.
Nice dig to call Hilary a ‘junior’ Senator, but it’s Obama who’s the true ‘junior’ in this race. He’s constantly saying he’s younger. Constantly appealing to college aged and younger folks who don’t read a newspaper. (Question for the kids—why won’t Barack take a drink when he visits a college bar—or any bar for that matter?)
What this piece wants us to forget is that Clinton adeptly forced the war machine to come to Congress before dismissing out of hand the peace pact being floated.
Note to kids: GE wants this war. That’s what this piece is about. Nice way to demean war protesters, GE.
Way to bash Robert Byrd out of the way for the pro-Obama Patrick Leahy to take his place. If anybody thinks the truly junior Senator Obama will end this war, they are mistaken.
Once again—GE not bringing good things to light. C-Span at its worse would do a lot of gen X and Y-ers a lot of good.

Very, very lame.

Why does The Swamp/The Trib continue breathless coverage of Saturday Night Live? Is this real news? Or thoughtful political commentary? You've been posting these on a weekly basis...sort of lame. Is this hard-hitting journalism? Deep investigation? Or the sort of papp that has been the unfortunate hallmark of professional journalism in this new century?

Come on. You can and should do better.

I fell asleep in the middle of it.

SNL hasn't been funny in a long, long time.

This was one of the weakest opening bits in SNL history. The character impersonations were not very good. Too many of Darryl Hammond's impressions are starting to sound like a combination of his Ted Koppel and Dan Rather. The Obama guy is way too serious. The jokes were stupid and contrived. The token audience laughter, minimal to begin with, tapered off noticibly each time they said Obama was going to be the next president. This whole show in general was not very funny. The host, Ashton Kutcher, is an over-exposed minimally talented juvenile delinquent, and his "death by chocolate" was absolutely offensive.

The sketch was too long and it just plodded along. I don't see the Hillary, McCain or Obama impressions as very accurate it was weak. This was the first time I had watched SNL in ten years I haven't missed much

I dont think the Neocons or their fascist brothers of the Christian Moronity would get Saturday Night Live anymore than that they are stupid and evil people.

Since when is SNL newsworthy? I guess I should be watching this past its prime lame attempt at topical humor show for all my news instead of reading the Chicago Tribune. I suppose this was a sketch of some worth since it lampooned Senator Clinton this time and played it oh so safe with Senator Obama. Apparently, NBC and GE couldn't stand being accused of Clinton bias. Hopefully, all those undecided voters will use the latest SNL political sketch portrayals as the basis for their presidential vote. Stop reporting this silliness and stick to real news. Besides, Acess Holywood does this stuff better.
