Is Barack Obama qualified to serve as president?
“Absolutely,’’ Sen. John McCain said today – with a qualifier that he, of course, considers himself more qualified.
Yet, he was presented with this question on Fox News Sunday today: “Putting aside your differences on issues, straight talk, is Barack Obama qualified to be president?’’ host Chris Wallace asked.
“If the voters decide that, of America, absolutely,’’ McCain replied.
“I believe that my talent and my background and my experience which has led to my judgment is -- I think qualifies me more, obviously, or I wouldn't be seeking the presidency,’’ the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee said, adding that the Democratic frontrunner in a close chase for delegates has misconstrued his own words about the war in Iraq.
“Let me just say again, that was in response -- when I said he was inexperienced and does not have the background -- to the charge of this, quote, "hundred years in Iraq,’’’ McCain said. “Wen you read the whole quote -- and I hope at some point we could see that -- where I was in an exchange with a voter in New Hampshire, a town hall meeting… he said how long are you going be there? I said it could be 100 years, but it's a matter of U.S. casualties. And we have presence in countries like South Korea, Japan, et cetera, et cetera. So it's very clear, and Senator Obama and anyone reads that knows that I didn't think we were in a 100-year war. ‘’
“But I want to go to the bigger issue,’’ Wallace said.
“Yeah,’’ McCain said. “Sure.’’
“Which is that you said Obama doesn't understand national security, has no experience, no background on these issues. I understand the voters are going to make up their minds…. In John McCain's opinion, does somebody who has no background in national security, is he fit to be commander in chief?’’
“Again, I'm not ducking your question, Chris,’’ McCain said. “You could make an argument maybe that Jack Kennedy was not, quote, "qualified" in 1960, as opposed to Richard Nixon. The voters decided on Jack Kennedy. So I can't dictate what the voters will decide.
“All I can do is match my credentials and my knowledge and background up against Sen. Obama's or Sen. Clinton. That race is not decided yet. And I will gladly stand, not only on that background and experience, but my vision and my ability to lead this country in difficult times.’’
McCain, who could become the oldest president inaugurated if he wins in November, also said this today: “It's pretty clear that Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton have energized the younger voters. And I believe I have, and I believe I've got to compete on that grounds, too,’’ he said with characteristic humor about the Sunday morning talk-show circuit: “That's why I go on shows that young people watch.

Listen people, enough with all this drivel. Just SHUT UP now and vote for Hillary before it's too late. Unless you want to draw America into her darkest period, because a Muslim loving black dude in the oval office means:
- Civil war in America will be inevitable
- American economy will collapse almost immediately
- Famine, death and destruction in all the cities
- Whites slaughtering blacks in the streets
- Gangs burning down our cities
- Terrorists will be celebrating all over the world
- Army generals will be attempting coup-d'etats
- American made nuclear arms will become available to street gangs and terrorists
- WWIII will follow
- America will get nuked by her own arms
- History and civilization will end by the year 2012 as the Mayans had predicted
Wise up now and vote for Hillary because we NEED her.

Mccain was just being diplomatic by saying what he did. I honestly dont think B Obama is ready. He lacks experience and is timid. His speeches are not getting the attention they once did and I find him boring. It seems that folks are looking for more substance and this is where Hillary comes in.Go Hillary!

At first, I thought your comments were part of the article, but then, "phew," I realized that you must be one of the 29% that supports the horrible direction America has taken for the last 8 years. If you dislike the situation in this country that much, please move out. We would all appreciate one fewer crackerjack in this country.

Ahhh, McCain you just want to beat the weakest opponent (Obama). If Obama becomes the nominee McCain is going to attack Obama's boneheaded mistakes. That includes his foul mouth wifey too.

Seriously, Mike...
Thank god for "Muslim loving black dude(s)" that are capable, willing, and able to step into leadership positions in this country.
Otherwise, we'd just have people like you in the pilot seat. And we all know where that landed the country - like the time when those pesky "civil rights" of millions of Americans were totally ignored.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are more than ready to be our next President but McCain still doesn't even know the difference between the Sunni's and Shiites in Iraq.
John McCain has demonstrated over and over again that he does not understand even the most basic of facts about his signature issue, the Iraq War.
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/03/18/a_mccain_gaffe_in_jordan.html
Sen. John McCain, traveling in the Middle East to promote his foreign policy expertise, misidentified in remarks Tuesday which broad category of Iraqi extremists are allegedly receiving support from Iran.
He said several times that Iran, a predominately Shiite country, was supplying the mostly Sunni militant group, al-Qaeda...
McCain said he and two Senate colleagues traveling with him continue to be concerned about Iranian operatives "taking al-Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back."
Pressed to elaborate, McCain said it was "common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's unfortunate." A few moments later, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, standing just behind McCain, stepped forward and whispered in the presidential candidate's ear. McCain then said: "I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda."
Al Qaeda in Iraq is of course entirely dominated by Sunni extremists who view all Shiites as heretics. The rise of Al Qaeda in Iraq and everything it has done there has been shaped by it's contempt for Shiites. The course of the insurgency, down to and including the "Sunni Awakening", has reflected that fanatical hostility that Al Qaeda brought to bear inside Iraq. Iranian involvement in financing and supporting Shiite militias in Iraq came partly in reaction to the rise of Al Qaeda in Iraq.
This isn't just a minor slip. This betrays a profound lack of foreign policy expertise, a shallowness so extreme that if the remark had been made by Barack Obama, say, it would have called into question his viability as a presidential candidate.
So you should expect the "serious" thinkers of the traditional media to dismiss the gaffe as 'trivial'. We are not allowed even to consider the possibility that John McCain is a foreign policy lightweight...not with all those splendid crazy Neocon foreign policy advisers he's assembled....the same nuts who worked for BushCo and gave us the Iraq disaster.
http://thinkprogress.org/wonkroom/2008/03/17/mccain-advisers/
Think Progress reported that McCain made the same crazyassertion on Hugh Hewitt's program.

McCain and company are salivating at the bit to run against Obama. The experience vs no experience argument couldn't be more clear, especially since the Iraq war has fallen off the radar screen of most voters watching their retirement dates being pushed farther and farther back and their assets decline precipitously. The Hillary bashers are quick to ask what experience does she bring to the election. She has 15 years more life experience, a few extra years in the senate, exposure to presidential politics of
Washington no other presidential candidate has ever brought to the office...and she's a survivor. Are the Clintons career politicians? Absolutely. We need someone with political savy and toughness to navigate the "take no prisoners" politics of Washington, especially during such unprecedented dangerous times.

The more I see of McCain, the more feeble and confused he seems. And not in a gloating, oh-look-at-the-stupid-republican way, but in a sad-sympathic way, which makes me so grateful that my parents – who are about his age — are doing so much better. And I wouldn't want either of my parents in a job an eighth as stressful as the one he's running for. Either Obama or Hillary should be able to clean up the floor with him, no matter how battered they are. The one problem for Hillary could be the media narrative on her "misstatements" (what some people would call "lies'). I won't trust McCain to answer the phone at 3 a.m., or at 3 p.m. when he's having his nap.

The one thing most of the above nit-wit authors have in common is that, thankfully, they don't show up at the polls on election day. That is not to imply any of them are even registered to vote as they peck out their feeble minded, often vulgar intonations.
Obama? Clinton? For president?
One is not much more than a soup kitchen oganizor and the other a documented lier, and married (?) to a bigger one.

54%?
Is that what you figure it will take to balance the budget that Bush's war has left so grossly imbalanced, Terry?
That may be right.
In any case, we need to do something with a budget deficit and a national debt that is growing faster than a cancer tumor. Otherwise we're going to be own lock-stock-and-barrel by the Chinese and Arabs.

Other than the fact Obama (like Hillary) is not even qualified to be a corporal in the Army, let alone commander in chief, one has to wonder what other qualifications he has. Maybe Bill Clinton could teach him how to return a salute.

To all the simpletons who keep bringing up the Wright speeches. Please get some perspective. The date of the GOD damn America speech was right after 9/11. Though that does not excuse the words, look at what Rev. Falwell and Robertson said around that time. How about Hagee after the Katrina disaster.
I don't listen to much that comes from pastors on either the right or left. I am a white male and think what was said by Rev. Wright probably had a bit more truth than the other idiots. Yes, American foreign policy does result in some negative reactions that can come back to bite us in the butt. To deny that is naive. I am more worried that my fellow American take serious anything from people who believe in "Faith" as being the only truth. They are no different from the people who believe in the Mayan prophesies. At least that calender has shown to be pretty accurate.

Posted by: Dave Locke | April 6, 2008 11:00 PM
Resident Idiot,
Raise the tax rate to 54%. 54% of nothing gets you nothing.
If you think if raising the tax rates is the answer to the deficits/debt, then why stop at 54%?
I want to hear how you think a 54% tax rate will grow this economy.
Posted by: Terry | April 6, 2008 11:10 PM
I don't want higher taxes, but guess what, I am already paying them because the Feds are spending sooo much on our failed neo-conservative experiment. Why does everybody think we have higher property taxes, higher service fees, higher sales taxes? it's not all because of the corrupt asses in office. It is because the federal government is not sending anything back to the local governments. Ya, this is the time to cut taxes. When and who is going to pay for this mess? Somebody has to pay. Corporations? If they keep the government in their pocket, the Chinese and others will own our debt and we will never be able to hold them accountable for their actions. A debtor nation is not a free nation. So ya, complain about your taxes and turn a blind eye on how it become as bad as it has. If this is a "war" raise the funds to pay for it

It will be so sad for you all to be sitting on the sidelines when Obama becomes our next President. The choice is a no-brainer. Hillary, the power-monger liar; McCain, sweet, honorable, but yesterdays' news,or Obama, who is a new opportunity. He's smart, honest, nice and attuned to the new generation of Americans whose children are going to have to live with our decison. No other candidate measures up in all those areas. President Obama. Join us now, or later. It is inevitable.

To Mike...In an earlier post I totally agreed with your perspectice other than the ending civilization deal..Then I post again with what I consider to be extremely relevent regarding Obama's Rev. Wright and you come back that only simpletons continue bringing this up!!..I am a little confused on your overall stance..It was unexusable no matter what date or time he decided to go off with his hysterical ravings against America, the white man, and God!!!..This will never go away and will be a large part of Obama's legacy...It's obvious his church did not preach the simple love thatJesus loves the little children..Red and yellow, black and white....Anyone that would sit thru 20 years of his tarnished outlook could not escape the negative programming that will inadvertinly roll down to the prople{ especially the white ones} should he be elected....BEWARE!!!!..
Posted by: kcm | April 6, 2008 11:51 PM
To raise the needed funds, yes let the tax breaks to the rich lapse. Let it go back to 39.6% Then add another bracket for the top 1% or top 1/2% of maybe 45%. It will still be much lower than what the top brackets were back in the 1970's. Yes, I pay quite a bit in taxes and I don't feel that the money I make makes me rich to Chicago standards, but I guess nationally speaking I am doing quite well. That just shows how poorly the national average in pay is. The income disparity in the country is really becoming a huge problem. Letting the sales tax to keep climbing is actually a much more regressive system and will not bode well for us. So suck it up and pay your fair share. The people who complain about the taxes are probably the same ones who vote the people in office who necessitate the need to raise them

Yeah,Dat's Right Mike. Just like there was going to be a terrible race war in Chicago if Harold Washington was elected. Or if blacks were defacto given the right to vote thoughout the south, etc. If Barack Obama becomes President, he will probably be a mediocrity, but America can withstand such mediocrity just as we did for the latter part of the Johnson years through Carter as well as this most recent joke.

If Hilary had a rev like that--she'd be dealing with it non-stop. The sexist double standard of this race is amazing.
The Obama supporters relentlessly race-bait anyone who disagrees with them even SLIGHTLY.
And, apparently being sexist is the last allowable habit of stupid people (male and female in America. But the smart people are now fighting back. Watch Geraldine Ferraro expose Randi Rhodes for the pea-brained person she really is:
http://guerillawomentn.blogspot.com/2008/04/geraldine-ferraro-responds-to-randi.html
Why wouldn’t the other media outlets run this? Well, Fox knows there’s very little risk of Hilary winning anyway, so why not? But the other mainstream media outlets do not want to get caught doing anything to help THE ONE CANDIDATE WHO CAN STILL BEAT JOHN MCCAIN—AND THAT’S HILARY. Note who’s posting it—Tennessee Guerilla Women. News Flash—Hilary TOOK the mid-South, and you need that to win in the fall campaign. Barack’s fake wins in Iowa and elsewhere (republicans cross over, bosses intimidate caucus employees, stuffed ballot boxes in Minnesota), EVEN WHILE OBAMA REFUSES TO STEP IN AND SAY THE DEMS WILL REVOTE MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA!
Now, watch the Obama campaign trolls call me racist for saying so.

Hillary Puppets - Hillary should take a page from McCains play book about how to campaign against an opponent. He was able to make his case without destroying the other candidate. While Hillary says that she's not sure if Obama is Muslim, McCain says (in so many words) don't be silly, I know and like this guy. Another example would be how he answers the question about being qualified to be president. Hillary says he's not qualified, McCain says I am more qualified, but yes, he is if the American people say he is. That is the problem with Hillary's personality. While Americans want someone that will address issues, they actually vote for the person that they think represents the persona of America. Hillary does not do that!
