MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- Sen. Barack Obama was not exactly born in a small town, but he has still managed to win the backing of John Mellencamp.
The Illinois Democrat's campaign announced this evening that the music legend is scheduled to appear with Obama and his wife, Michelle, at a campaign event Tuesday evening in Evansville, Ind.
The announcement comes as the nomination fight with Sen. Hillary Clinton moves from Pennsylvania, where the primary is Tuesday, to Indiana and North Carolina, where the May 6 primaries are next on the calendar.

Yes, and John Mellencamp, if I remember correctly, believes we attacked ourselves on 9/11 and he is against action against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.
Stick to the music, John.

Awright John boy, You Rawk dude. Nothing like helping the cause of peace. There are a whole bunch of grateful American families who will line up to shake your hand once Obama brings our boys back home. And Hilly Can't nuke ANYBODY as long as she's denied access and control of the damned button.

This is exactly why we should do everything a celebrity says. Typically, aren't they the ones that weren't smart enough to finish school and stay away from drugs? I guess that is what makes their opinion so valuable. I like Obama, just not celebrities that can't shut up!

Really Lil Johnny? and I suppose you have some links to back up this insane claim of yours, right?
You gotta love the Wingnuts, they hate everyone and everything that doesn't agree with their nutty ideology....and that makes up about 95% of the world nowdays.

Orprah, Springsteen, and now Mellencamp. I'm still undecided. If only Madonna, Britney and Winehouse endorse Obama...then I'm going Barack and never goin' back. I just love celebrities---they know so much more than me (or is it "I"). How can all these celebrities be wrong!? I mean they learn so much in rehab and all.

First Hillary played "The Rising" at her rally and then Bruce Springsteen announced his support of Obama.
Later Hillary played "Small Town" at her rally and now John Mellencamp has announced his support for Obama.
Makes you wonder if Hillary isn't using songs without prior approval, ala Ronald Reagan in 1984. That must be why Republicans like John D are all upset. They prefer that corporations like Hillary, INC. control everything and that the workers who actually produce products get squat.

Oh, Unemployable Johnnny E., you make this WAY too easy:

Not just copy of what he said, but the actual video from the Charlie Rose show! And he doesn't even think there should have been a response to Pearl Harbor!!!
"John E." stick to the basement, John Mellencamp should stick to music and let the adults with a clue stick to taking care of this planet.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who recognizes the irony of Clinton using 'working class' songs at her rallies, only to have the artists turn out in support of her opponent.
And why do so many people take exception to a celebrity endorsing a candidate? I don't think Dave Matthews, Springstein, or Mellencamp have done more than express their intentions to vote for Obama and encourage others to do the same. I haven't heard them touting Obama's speaking points or actively campaigning for him. Everyone is allowed to express their support for a candidate (ie: Elton John for Clinton last week) whether they're speaking to millions of fans or to their close friends or just their family.

My campaign was derailed in a small town
They didn't vote for me in Allentown
They know how to bowl in a small town
Audacity is not vocab in a small town
My opponent takes whisky shots in a small town
Reagan knew how to talk to a small town
Ellos votan por Clinton en un pequeño pueblo
South Chicago is NOT a small town
Weathermen predict rain in a small town
Indonesia is not an Indiana small town
J. Wright doesn't preach in a small town
Pulling out is birth control in a small town
There is no clinging in a small town…

Obama supporters, hold onto that HOPE Obama's selling because that's all he's GOT when it comes to getting those CHANGES Made.
Obama claims 7 years experience in the Illinois legislature - Working Across the Aisles, Bringing people together to get good CHANGES passed -as exemplified by 26 good bills with his name on them.
A Chicago reporter says all 26 bills were passed in ONE Year.
http://wweek.com/editorial/3418/10516/
EXCERPTS:
But what’s interesting, and almost never discussed, is that he built his entire legislative record in Illinois in a single year.
Republicans controlled the Illinois General Assembly for six years of Obama’s seven-year tenure.
Then Emil Jones Jr. (became the Senate Majority leader), He became Obama’s kingmaker.
Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.
During his seventh year in the state Senate, Obama ... sponsored a whopping 26 bills including many he now cites in his presidential campaign when attacked as inexperienced.
Working Across the Aisles/ Making CHANGES = ZILCH
Taking Credit for Other People's Work/ INTEGRITY = ZERO
HONESTY = ZERO
