YORK, Pa.--Michelle Obama says her husband is no elitist, and he's got the personal history to prove it.

Democratic candidate Barack Obama's mother was "an 18-year-old single white woman raising a black child in the 60s," who sometimes relied on food stamps to feed her family, his wife told a crowd here this afternoon.

Until a few years ago, Obama said, she and her husband were still in debt, trying to pay off college loans that, combined, exceeded the amount of their mortgage.

And they know what it's like to get a call from a debt collection agency, she said.

"I remember those days clearly," she said, "sweating to get that mail."

Other politicians may not get the daily struggles of "regular folks," she said, but there's a candidate in their upcoming Democratic primary who does.

"What I do know," she said, "is this guy I'm married to, Barack Obama, understands a lot more than many politicians."

Oh please, he was the child of a diplomat who went to a private high school. What other BS does Michelle Obama expect us to believe?

What comic book did you pick that little tidbit up from? Check your facts before you speak, Jeff

Sue Ellen Stamp,

If you are a fish, it is wise to vacate the barrel before taunting the man with the gun.

I'm glad you asked, the "comic book" is called "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance." In it Obama recalls his childhood at Punahou School in Honolulu from the fifth grade until his graduation in 1979. He describes the school in the same chapter about "doing a little blow."
There's a sequel comic book to it called "The Audacity of Hope," although this one has fewer pictures.

Here's some more for you regarding Obama's heritage, Sue Ellen. Yes, his birth father was a Kenyan, but the man who actually helped his mother raise him was named Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian who worked for the Indonesian government and later an oil company. No, he was not rich, but to classify his upbringing as poor is rather dubious.

Obama and Michelle have to stop caring what a lot of people think. There is a sect of Americans that would tell them that they are not black and dont have children they are so against the man. They are just haters.

Sue Ellen Stamp,

McCain's book "Faith of my Fathers" details how a dumb kid like McCain was able to sidestep navel academy grade standards and still be admitted because of his fathers and grandfathers influence..

It's very similar to Bush jr's story of how a dumb kid gets into Yale as a "legacy".

The back story on almost all of the Repubs is the same old story, they're all dumber than a bag of rocks,

Punahou School-private
Occidental College-private
Columbia College-private
Harvard Law School-private
Honolulu Hawaii-capital
Jakarta Idonasia-capital
Los Angeles Calif.-large city
Manhattan,NYC, NY-large city
Chicago Ill.-large city
Cambridge Mass.- big city

Ah yeas the community orgaization, rasied by one parent/grandparents, still paying off loans is exaclty what you want to focus on becuse the trajectory through private echelons and major cities is something the working class can relate too.

Well, if going to a mere private high school proves Obama is a child of privledge, what does going to an extremely exclusive private boarding school, that did not admit blacks, say about John McCain?

So, Jeff, what is the name of Obama's diplomat parent? Go ahead, prove it. Keep you swiftboat from sinking, it's going down fast.

Glad to see two things on the blog today--
1. the other diva of the Obama couple is back out and on the trail (is she taking questions about the 30 years of Michelle Robinson tax returns she screamed for HIlary to produce)?
and 2. Well, all the Obama HQ-text-messaged kids on the blogs are napping (they had to get up early cuz they didn't want those who'd done any research to have at the blogs today ). Note to Kids: most of us got ahead because we don't sleep so much--we're working. We don't have time for basketball and such cuz the kids aren't in that cushy cushy U of C daycare or that great Rezko cash to clean our typical houses doncha know!
Don't journalists follow the old saw "Don't tell us, show us"?
Show us the tax records, Michelle Robinson, Michelle Obama, Barry Soleto, Barack Obama. All of em. 30 years now.
Pot meet kettle.
and Yes we CAN all get along.
Gotta go boil the laundry now.

I never thought I would see the day that I would agree with Hillary about anything, but her point that Senator Barach H. Oboma is an elitist is right on the mark. I also believe Barach H. Oboma is a very inteligent politician and doesn't say anything he hasn't carefully thought out to have the maximum affect. What I mean is, he knew the public reaction was going to be negative, and that he would emerge stronger having gained respect from his party faithful for saying something no thoughtful person would even consider but was designed get the publics attention big time.
To that end he has succeeded and will receive an atta boy from George Soros and Reverend Wright.

I suppose Wright and Rezko pulled them out of their poverty. Come on people..How much guff can we swallow from her.....They don't even know what plain old lettuce is.......

See, the problem with Jeff is that he leaves such poor impressions of Obama. While what he said, is factually true, it gives an opposite implication of reality.

As far as being as dumb as a bag of rocks - that is coming from expert. Thanks catholic School Girl John E.

If the "private boarding school" of the Naval Academy exists solely to prepare you to put your life on the line for your country, as McCain did and like it does, then I'd say going to it is the single most selfless thing McCain could do for his fellow Americans.

p.s. Keith, I realize that you, like Sue, are just following Obama blindly and don't really know anything about the man, but you should know that he and Michelle have two children. Ahh, the educated voter.

p.p.s. John E., that's only about 8 times as smart as you, then. The bag of rocks, I mean.

Is anybody buying this Rezko mansion shill? Anybody?
Michelle's husband ain't a 'guy' with better understanding of anything compared to 'many' politicians.
(JEESH she even SPEAKS like a bad Axelrod ad).
He IS a politician.
A Rezko/Daley politician.
Question: After the Rezko comes the RICO trial?
How'zat gonna work in the fall, anyone? Buehler? Buehler?
Gotta go make my 59 cents now.

Jeff, I'm shocked that you don't know that your Messiah, John K-street McCain went to high school at the extremely exclusive Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia.

It's a boarding school, which at the time McCain went, didn't admit blacks. It's very expensive. (Current tuition is $38,000 a year. More than most people pay for college.). Read the link I posted before. Learn more about the object of your hero worship's elite background..

Michael, it doesn't matter. I never said McCain wasn't wealthy. I said Obama was. Michelle Obama is the one who's expecting us to believe he didn't grow up in comfort. He did.
You're attacking a non-argument. And whether McCain is wealthy or not I think the fact that he served his country with blacks and people of all races and backgrounds in Vietnam and lived in less than abject poverty as a POW for five years - and turned down offers to renounce his country and be free - shows that he's no elitist and DEFINITELY not the racist you're trying to imply he is with that "school didn't admit blacks at the time he went" crap.

Roman, Obama's diplomat parent is his stepfather, Lolo Soetoro.

Xcellent, if what I said is factually true, as you concede, how can it POSSIBLY be the opposite of reality?

Watch at home how to trap a liberal.

Here goes: If there's nothing elite or rich about going to private school then WHY IS IT that every time I turn on the TV or read the paper and hear from a democrat politician on the state, local, or national level speak about education they ALWAYS - and this includes Obama - say that only rich people send their kids to private school?
And that we shouldn't have vouchers because it would take the middle class out of the noble experiment that is public education? Until they send little Chels and little Barack to private school, of course? Double standard much.

This lesson has been brought to you by the Swamp's conservative posters. Hi John and Jerry!
