For all the turbulence on the campaign front – with a heated battle underway between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania – the latest results of the Gallup Poll’s daily track released today portray the senator from Illinois with a comfortable national lead over Clinton.

The survey of Democratic voters conducted Thursday through Saturday found Obama favored among 50 percent and Clinton 41 percent.

“The latest news in the campaign focuses on remarks Obama made, first reported on Friday, about working class and rural voters being "bitter" about the economy,’’ Gallup’s Jeff Jones notes today. “Initial indications are that the controversial remarks has not yet hurt Obama -- his 9-percentage point lead in the current results (based on March 10-12 polling) is right in line with the average 8.5-point lead he held in the prior six days' tracking results.

“Also, his lead in the current results shows a slight improvement from his 7-point advantage in March 9-11 polling,’’ Jones notes. “As the story gains momentum in the press, the coming days' tracking results will measure its ultimate impact.

“The controversy comes just as Obama has established himself as the leader in Democratic voters' preferences for the nomination, holding a statistically significant lead in each of the past seven days' tracking results,’’ he continues. “Prior to that, he had only managed to hold a significant lead in as many as four consecutive days' results, doing this in late March.

In test match-ups with the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee, Sen. John McCain, Obama is favored among 46 percent, McCain 43 percent, and Clinton is favored among 46 percent, McCain 45 percent – both statistical ties.

The keyword here is "pounced." The Clinton and Bush Dynasty surrogates AND Hillary herself practice a predatory politics that eats up the American people to enrich the dynastic families and their oligarchic and coporate henchmen. Bill lies about Hillary's sniper fire lies, Hillary lies about their dynastic multimillions, NAFTA, free trade, etc, and the media let them scoot free as "mis-speakers." Senator Obama finds it difficult to pander and refuses to attack Hillary on her lies. He is attacked for being an elite. Please give the American people a break. Here is a man who grew up the biracial son of a single teenage mother, raised by struggling middle-class grandparents, who excelled in law school on scholarship and loans. He comes from us, from the US, and from the common folk--a son of the peple, for the people and by the people. If the citizens of Pennsylvania permit the Clinton dynasty machine to manipulate our beloved democracy yet again and to return to the White House for an unconstituional eight more years, then truly we will find ourselves globally falling down the down staircase. The eyes of the world are watching us. Dear Pennsylvania, turn the page and say no to Hillary's and Bill's tear-down campaign of personal destruction.

WHO ARE THEY POLLING ANYWAY LOL THAT POLL'S DEAD WRONG.

I believe the American people can see through Hillary's attempts to distort Obamas words, meanings and record.
They also know that she is desperate and that she will use whatever words she can to win.
I believe her husband thinks she took a wrong turn with this one, maybe a wrong Right turn.

There is nothing elitist about saying a lot of people are bitter about the poor job the congress and the president are doing, and the impact their poor efforts are having on the lower and middle class. I don't think Hillary is going to gain much ground with her "let them eat cake" attitude.

Clinton's nasty bird-dogging one small "private" remark of Obama's will hurt her more than it hurts him. And come on, Brigette -- just because they didn't poll you doesn't make the polling "dead wrong." Try not to be a sore loser like Hillary.

As to the Clinton "Dynasty", the Clintons did not come from extreme wealth like the Bush's so I don't think the word works. The fact is the Clintons clearly know how to run an economy and Obama has never run anything. The reason he's getting so much money is that black people have been motivated to give purely based on his race. That does not make him a great economic leader. He's a novice who wouldn't stand a chance if Oprah didn't endorse him because they attend the same crazy church. We've had 8 years of inexperience and we're going to get at least 4 more with Obama.

Everyone knew that Hillary would be saying Obama is unelectable in the general election; we were just waiting to see what reason she contrived. Here it is: the bitter argument. I see a few problems with this line of argument:

1) many people in small towns ARE bitter -- bitter about being let down by presidents who make big promises and don't deliver like Bill Clinton did.

2) Hillary herself is more elite than Obama. She and Bill made $110 million in the past 7 years; she ain't the beer drinking, gun shooting, working class person she is protraying herself to be and people see right through that.

3) Hillary is using the Republicans talking points to go after Obama. If he does lose in the fall it will be in part due to Hillary's campaign against him.

It is another over reaction from Senator Clinton and we are sick of it and we are sick of you and your husband. Let him go back to being the elder statesman (who apparently makes huge business deals) and you can be a senator from New York and try to run when you are 68.

For over a month there have been only two questions remaining about the Democratic nomination:

1) when (not if) will Hillary concede defeat
2) how low will she go in the meantime?

I guess we are seeing it now.

The issue is not that he said people are bitter. The issue is that he said that their bitterness is what leads them to religion, guns and antipathy. This is huge. It shows the utter arrogance of a man who thinks he knows why people choose their belief systems and implies that it is rooted in negativity. Wow! And this coming from someone who sat and listened to Jeremiah Wright for twenty years. What gall. And he is unelectable in November. Wake up Democrats.

This is a non-starter for Hillary. She has shown that her elitist attitude that she "deserves the presidency' proves her stubbornness and drive, as well as her appetite to eat the flesh of any one standing in her way. This will not indear her to the hearts of the working class and rural voters.Barack is right..they are "bitter" as I am one of them seeing my investments fall to nothing and my wages being eaten away by increases in the cost of everything. When some one speaks the truth instead of the "fairy tale" Clinton alleges that voters are optimistic and happy. What working-class people does she know who feel that way?" She is the one who is truly out of touch! Sure, in times of hardship, people cling to that which they know, just a fact of human nature.

May be Brigitte Sanz knows something we don't know. Unless you don't understand statistical judgement then you should keep your comments to your self. Sen.Obama has been polling around that figure since the last month. It moved up from 7 percentage points since the March 9-11 polling as the article says. Tell us something we don't know. How much is it wrong by?

Ivan Douglas...well said sir..as a small town american myself, I can tell you this: Mr. Obama looks very shallow and naive after these comments. thanks. ssjackson, idaho

shirl:

Well said.

Please don't give poll data without error bars! Your 8th grade math teacher would be ashamed!

This argument is a loser for Clinton. She won't get any movement arguing that people are not bitter about the economics that have given their jobs to people oversees or to illegal immigrants. Her campaign printed buttons for people at her rallies that say "I'm not Bitter". She is crazy if she thinks people are happy with there situation. It actually makes Obama look honest.

Ivan what he was trying to say was that because people are upset with their government, they often VOTE based on issues of religion, guns, and anti-immigration. Everyone knows what he meant, and everyone knows that theres some truth in it. Thats one thing I cant stand in politicians and people, when they try to play stupid to prove a point.

Obama was trying to articulate a complex issue about the working class in an empathetic waythat he clearly wanted people to understand and that clearly concerned him and a " bitter" Hillary supporter takes the comments out of context so the Clintons can " pounce" on it. I don't think the American people are stupid. They can see with their own eyes that the Clintons are liars and will do anything to win. Just take a look at those Bosnia tapes and those videos of Bill talking about Hillary and Bosnia. The Clintons are two intelligent and articluate people who unfortunately are so "out of touch and elitist" they take us for a bunch of idiots. They project their own foibles onto Obama. Obama 08

shirl:

Well said.

yo, Ivan Douglas: as they on McLaughlin: WRONG!

Obama did not say that people cling to their guns and their churches *because* they are bitter -- he's saying people are VOTING on these issues because their elected leaders aren't making progress on their promises.

Do not willfully misconstrue the distinction he clearly made.

It's that distinction that critics are eliding. clearly yes if he were actually saying the first thing it would be a fairly condescending thing to say. but he's not saying that. he's saying that guns and religion shouldn't be the basis for a vote - that there should more tangible and practical things to base one's choice on.

The bottom line is that in the absence of any real progress in their lives -- and 8 years of a borrow-and-spend Republican administration that has robbed them of even more of their wealth -- people drift toward voting for the issues where at least they feel their vote may have an impact, even though that vote may ultimately be self-defeating (in the case of voting for Repubs who give tax cuts to the wealthy.) The idea that he is "out of touch" is laughable. He couldn't be more in touch.

Obama was saying this since 2004.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oGF3cyHE7M

I think Obama is absolutely telling the truth in his bitterness remark. That aside, let's say he is off the mark somewhat, do we allow then this kind of honest discussions in and of itself? The fact that remarks like this are taken out of context and being used as ammunitions of attack by opponents, is so sad in today's America, that am bitter about it. The fact Senator John McCain's camp is also using it to attack Obama, causes me to think that Senator McCain should relinguish the straight talk mantel to Senetor Obama.

I am disgusted with the duplicity of the Clinton Clique.

Hillary is a seasoned liar. Her Husband is a lying cheat; he associates with Columbians and other foreign characters who pay him large sums of money to gain influence.

Hillary promised to create jobs in Western New York and failed to do so. When asked about this spectacular failure by Tim Russel, Hillary blamed her pathetic failure on President Bush. She is lied about everything; including the now famous Bosnia sniper fire, about the fact that she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary (note that she was born long before Sir Hillary scaled Mount Everett). She lied about not knowing that Mark Penn was milking the Columbians even when she was bashing the proposed free trade deal with Columbia.

they are "bitter" as we are too seeing our investments fall to nothing and our wages being eaten away by increases in the cost of everything. many people in the country are bitter -- bitter about being lied to by this presidents who make big promises and don't deliver notjhing. one question i have for Hillary when will she drop out? for the good of the Democratic Party.

I so hope the bloggers here are correct who are saying this kind of campaigning will hurt Clinton more than Obama.

Imagine what kind of presidency we would be getting with this sort of ethic. Er, non-ethic.

Cafenitro sounds really bitter. Why is it that everyone who doesn't like Sen.Obama doesn't give a good reason for him not being the nominee? Cafenitro sounds equally shallow by first saying that because the Clintons didn't come from extreme wealth like the Bushes, it doesn't make their a dynasty. May be he should consult a dictionary for the meaning of "dynasty", and dynasty in this sense relates to political dynasty, Cafenitro. Secondly, unless you don't know who is running for nomination for the presidency, it is not the Clinton who run an economy. The running Clinton has not run an economy before. She has run a campaign though whose unsuccessfulness is unequivocal. As for your claim that Sen. Obama is "a novice who wouldn't stand a chance if Oprah didn't endorse him because they attend the same crazy church", one wonders from where this neanderthal coment might have sprung if not from your terribly myopic self. See, Oprah didn't endorse Senator Obama in his running to be the first African American to be president of the Harvard Law Review in 1991. He's worked as a community organiser, a university lecturer, a Civil Rights Lawyer, before running for the senate. Cafenitro, think again. Don't take words right out of Sen. Hillary Clinton's divisive mouth. Search for info and think before you comment.

The accurate response to what has been happening in government for the past 25 years should be 'I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore'.

This is a chance for a breath of fresh air with Obama! I hope we don't let that opportunity pass us by.

Why does the media continue to play up Hillary's pathetically desperate attempts to smear Barack Obama?!?!

We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the freakin' American.
But I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along to the age of paranoia.

I read what he said. I understood it. I agree with it. The clintons jumped on the remarks, I think they distorted them, and made them appear to be something they were not. I'm just a retired white guy. I worked most of my life doing a job that is now being done in Mexico, by poorly paid people who get very few benefits and do not have many safety standards in place. Their employers (who used to be my employers) do not have to conform to clean air or clean water standards. But those employers surely have made tons of money from clinton’s NAFTA. Money they use to pay for "speaking fees" to thank politicians for taking care of them. My job is gone, the clintons are raking in millions from the people who took my job, And I'm smart enough to make the connection.

IT IS DONE.OBAMA HAS CARRIED THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINATION AND HE IS GOING TO BEAT MCCAIN BY MORE THAN 10% POINTS IN NOVEMBER.WATCH HISTORY UNFOLD.
THE CLINTONS THINK THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS THEIRS...NO NO NO.OBAMA TEACH THEM A LESSON FOR US.
THEN THE OLD WASHINGTON ESTABLISHMENT OF BUSH AND CLINTONS IS DISGUSTING TO AMERICANS.PLEASE GOD HEAR OUR PRAYER.....BLESS US WITH A FRESH START.CLEAR ALL OBSTACLES.AMERICA CAN BE GREAT AGAIN.

It's not so much what Sen. Obama said but how he expressed it before a group of wealthy donors in San Francisco. It made it appear they were being talked about from their thrones. Pa. voters should have been the ones he was addressing in PA.

We don't 'poll' our way into a presidential election win.
Heard of the electoral college?
These polls are garbage.
Corporate media wants Obama to stay in the race. They know that Hilary is adopting the John Edwards campaign---and that means media reform.
Obama will cost us the race in the Fall. He needs to bow out.
Obama's win aren't 'real'--the Repugs voted him up--just as they're skewing these 'polls'--been polled yourself lately, by Gallup?
Wake up before it's too late.

The disturbing feature of Clinton's attempt to take advantage of Obama's comments is that she is trying to cast him, once again, as
UnAmerican. She needs to be called on this attempt to claim the American label in this race. There is noting UnAmerican about going ot Harvard instead of Yeal, playng basketball instead of bowling, worshiping at a Christian Church of his own choice, etc. , or having a "diferent" middle name . She needs to be called on this rhetoric that she shares with McCain - one that keeps trying to lable Obama as UnAmerican because he has not taken on all the tics of Washington
insiders.

I agree with Elisabeth that was the offense. But that said, it had goodwilll and depth and accuracy. Probably should be said TO the people he was talking about behind their backs. Even though few of us do that and he was answering a question that required him to speculate on why PA voters don't love him as much as we do.

I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, and grew up in a blue collar family. Barack Obama is NOT the one who is out of touch. Living here, I can tell you that there IS frustration and there IS bitterness. He just spoke the truth. Hillary Clinton pouncing on this and using it as some desperate way to gain votes is what insults me. And not all Pennsylvania mayors are jumping on the Clinton band wagon. I received an automated call from York's mayor, John Brenner, just last night in which he expressed support for Senator Obama.

1) when (not if) will Hillary concede defeat
2) how low will she go in the meantime?

I guess we are seeing it now.

For the uninformed you only need to Google "What's the matter with Kansas" to 1. Understand what obama was saying and 2. He is absolutely right. Hillary and the GOP bring Guns, religion, Abortion and other Social issues to distract from the fact that they have NOT done anything for these folks. They hope these people vote with their hearts instead of their heads even when it's against their economic issues. Frank wrong about this in 2000 as a way to try to understand why rural folks voted for Bush!

Hillary is just desperate. She has absolutely no talking points to attack Obama on, so she turns to what she knows best: lies and deceptions. I am a republican, but i could truthfully say, Obama is one of the best things that could have happened to America. America has lost its voice, and people have been so overlooked for years. Just look at the income disperity, its almost criminal that there are folks in this country that can't even make ends meet, can't even afford bare necessities. And yet someone like Hillary making over $109 million dollars has the audacity to accuse anyone of being "out of touch with the American people.' Come on now, who do you think you are fooling. Finally someone comes along, who's ready to fight for changes that will better America as a whole, and yet you keep dwelling on nonsense and waving attacks of negativity with no validation whatsoever. Yes we are tired and damn right we people are bitter. Don't even want to bore people with a list of all things making us bitter, I think you know better than i could ever state in words. Hillary you are welcome to stay in the race, afterall we are a democracy, right!! and yes keep launching your empty attacks but you are gonna have to do better than that to stop this movement that Obama has embarked on. Its not Obama that you are attacking, Obama speaks on behalf of voices that have been silenced for too long now, but not anylonger. You had a chance to do that, but i guess at the end of the day, we know all you were never in it for the people. I think your tax returns just proved that.. or should i say Walmart where you were board member, but yet walmart continues to renmain the richest corporation with one of the worst health care benefits and employees poorly paid.. Mccain can lose to Obama but i think the real winners will be the American people if Obama is elected in November. Peace to all, God bless.

The American people will not elect Obama as our President even if the media is in love with him. Almost all of the major newspapers in Texas endored Obama prior to the Democratic primary and HRC won the popular vote. The media does not have as much influence as they think they do. Quit pushing Obama!

I also grew up in PA to a blue collar family, but I believe it's Hillary who will pull us out of this economic crisis. Bill Clinton had the economy thriving during his terms in office - 22 million+ jobs created, the lowest unemployment rates in 3 decades. Hillary is smarter than he is... she'll do many good things for our country! HRC will have my vote on April 22.

Clinton's NAFTA sent jobs away, the owners of those companies made fortunes. That enables them to pay "speaking fees" to politicians to thank them. My community has suffered and I'm smart enough to make the connection.

I would prefer hurting truth told by Obama to embellished lies by Hillary.

If you listen to Obama's complete discussion, he states people are "bitter" about the poor economy, the terrible job market, the lack of government’s economic investment and absence of promised "job training" (a joke) when industry after industry has been outsourced for decades. This Out-sourcing of jobs and industry began with the NAFTA free trade agreement, which took hold during Bill Clinton's administration. Little wonder these people feel beaten down and powerless (or for lack of another term, can you say "bitter?) when the conversation is on economy. And little wonder they don't believe what politicians promise, election after election, in their empty speeches about the economy. Obama goes on to explain these small town citizens turn their energy toward issues of gun control (cling to their guns) , anti-gay marriage or pro- life (religion), or anti-immigration: issues where they believe they might still have a voice and their opinion and vote may actually matter. Please note: Obama is willing to have the hard discussion and acknowledge the pain in our country. On the other hand, Clinton is the ultimate politician. "Aghast at Obama's straight talk, she puts on her "rose colored glasses" and pronounces that these people are "resilient." Mr, Obama never said the people are not resilient. To be "Bitter" does not mean one cannot be resilient. These people are resilient in spite of their bitterness against the government’s apathy toward their plight. Once again, she word-smiths what Obama says into sound bites that are taken out of context, She is the ultimate politician and lacks the courage to acknowledge these people are in pain and are longing for someone to understand to source of their pain. If all were hunky-dory in rural America, millions of people wouldn't be standing in line for hours to hear Mr. Obama who stands for "Change." They wouldn't need or want change. They'd want more of the same. The bottom line here, is that Clinton sees this as an opportunity to take the spotlight off of her dishonest comments and lack of character. She lied over and over again in her speeches about being under sniper fire in Bosnia, to make her look more "experienced." Bill Clinton then outright lied in her defense. This couple has a pattern of lying. "I did not inhale." "I did not have sex with that woman." "The welcome on the tarmac was cancelled due to sniper fire." They both seem to believe if they tell a lie over and over again, it somehow becomes the truth. And two days after Bill Clinton perpetrates this second outright lie, all the Attention Deficit disordered media can focus on is the word "bitter" instead of the fact that Obama acknowledges the bitterness and frustration of people who have been promised by politicians in campaign after campaign, year after year, that help is on the way. Stop this insanity and keep the spotlight where it should be. In closing, I also have a question: Who did the person work for that taped Obama's comments and what was she really doing in a meeting that was supposed to be closed to the press? Why isn't anyone asking this question?

A major difference between the two remaining Democratic presidential candidates is that one promises to fight for the people, while the other empowers people, giving us the tools and the confidence we need to work toward improving our own government.

One candidate takes advantage of the powerlessness that people feel and tells them they need her to work the levers of power for them. The problem with that approach is that first you have to believe that she really will fight for us, rather than possibly fighting just a bit harder for her own political and economic gain when her interests and ours don't happen to coincide. Then, assuming that we trust her to do her best for us, can we trust her to succeed? Is her "fighting" approach, with her particular set of skills and personality traits best suited to work?

The other candidate recognizes that he can't work the levers of power without substantial, active popular support. He lets the people know that WE can achieve universal health care, for example, by working toward that goal with our votes, our contributions, our leg work, and most of all, our voices. We're already doing it. We don't need to wait for anyone to "fight for us." In fact, we can't wait because we are the only ones who can make this happen. No president can do it without our active support.

The ball's in your court, Pennsylvania. Believe that you need someone to fight for you, and trust Hillary Clinton to win that fight, or believe in yourself and start working toward a better future now.

I have such faith in the American People. It is obvious that we've begun to see a pattern with the Clintons. Do we actually know how far back their deception goes? Here is an article that undeniably reveals the length to which the Clinton's have been 'toying' and 'setting up' the People of the United States of America.
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/GC01Df03.html

Creating jobs? Is that really what Bill Clinton did. I don't think so. The reason the economy is failing now is because there was not enough future planning.
What effect would NAFTA have on workers.
What kinds of jobs do we need in the future?
What kind of education are we providing young people to get the jobs of the future?
What kind of training are we providing older workers so they can transition to the jobs of the future?
What kind of buffers do we have in place in case people fall through the cracks?
Did Bill Clinton really think this all through?
I think Hillary makes the same kind of blanket promises in order to get elected. I am beginning to question her motives and her level of intelligence.

To reposnd to the comment above regarding economic prosperity during Bill Clinton's presidency. Yes it is true a lot of jobs were created and yes Americans enjoyed an economic boost. However the manner and fashion in which economic boom of the 90's were achieved, compeletely distorted and sacrifised welfare of future generations. What's the sense in doing good for the short-run while jeopardizing long-term good and welfare of generations to come. The 90's brought about greed and even greater gains for corporations with a smaller proportion of those gains steming down to the roots that is middle and lower class working americans. Bush only made it worse, but i think it was just a matter of time.

Wierd Poll from the chicago media combine.

Poll below shows Hilary and Barack at 46-44 or so and Now Hilary is leading by 50 to 44%.
I like the Philadelphia Inquirer's reporting a lot better than da windy city's papers--they're so willing to turn a blind eye to Daley/Obama/Rezko corruption it's sickening.
Url for a real poll below:

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/politics/

And this poll doesn't take into account a non-corporate media type crasing the Obama love fest da boys and girls on da bus have been attending.
gotta go send some more money to Hilary.

These voters will have the final say.
We cannot afford to have a nominee, Sen Obama, whose supporters are limited to such a narrow geographics. This will alienate the base of the party & surely guarantee a McCain Presidency. This has been the reason we have not been electing a Dem for President. The nomination process has been taken over by a minority of individuals who have little in common with the vast majority of American voters who DO ELECT our President.

Jen - I don't believe you grew up blue collar, but that's besides the point.

Bill sent all your Pa. jobs overseas and made it easier for his corporate friends to write off expenses by builiding/hiring in foreign countries that he's now lobbying for. See how that works? If you were truly blue-collar, you'd know that already. Nice try though Billary Blogger.

Same goes for Northern Indiana - if you were a mill worker, you know Bill sold you short. Now, if you're knocking on doors for your local committeman- I can understand it. See, your elected official is on the hook to Evan and his type, and Billary is going to promise to keep those EPA standards relaxed so BP can give your state money on the 'make - without actually recognizing it's a payoff'.

Careful though - don't sell yourself short, because either way, when it hits the fan, you'll end up just like Big Steel, and Detroit Motor city Good luck with that.

THIS JUST IN: Hillary supporters left bamboozled by her campaign of double standards. Her core base of fruit loops hang in there saying quote "The reason we can look past her Bosnia lies and free trade support is because we were lied to as children and we share that bond with Hillary. We're victims just like Hillary."

I don't like any of them, but I'll take the one that doesn't cry on stage.

So far, I've heard more negativity regarding Obama's remarks from the Clintons and the press. The press keeps hammering that the comments will hurt him, pivot undecideds toward Clinton, etc., etc. I agree with much of what's been stated here. The American people are smart enough to separate the wheat from the chaff. They can see this desperate move from the Clinton camp for what it is - an attempt to shift the focus from her untrusworthiness, her duplicitous behavior, and her strong alliances with special interests. Were it possible, I would tell Hillary Clinton to offer the 800 pound gorilla a chair. She's convinced we don't know he's there.

There is only one poll that counts and that occurs on Election Day! Get out our vote, Democrats!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

Obama followers are trying to cover up for him---but it nowseems clear that they do so at their peril. Consider the relationship between these recent remarks and what B.O. has said in his famous "race speech" . There he both defends Rev. Wright's incendiary hate-speech, and (to a lesser extent) the antipathy of poor whites against affirmative action and reverse discrimination to help blacks. He's saying the people who don't support him are bigoted xenophobics, and view him as an example of a person "who does not look like them". It would seem to follow that his own turn to the Black liberation theology is an outgrowth of his own TRANSFERENCE of rage.
The real danger of B.O.'s ideas only surface once one takes them to their logical extension. In each case B.O. LEGITIMIZES a transference of bitterness over disappointments or failures in one's life into bitterness against others who are thereby SCAPEGOATED as the cause of their ills. He thereby, probably unconsciously, legitimizes scapegoating---blaming others, even with the knowledge that one is guilty of false consciousness (e.g., as in Wright's blaiming AIDs on the U.S. government, or 9/11 on Israel and the Jews.) This is a MOST DANGEROUS and also most effective trait enabling charismatic leaders all too often to gain rabid adherence and following. This seems to be the danger that Obama's power now has over much of America. (Witness his followers use double-speak to defend him.) Let us hope that CAREFUL, RESPONSIBLE criticism of his persuasive mantra saves this country in time!

I wonder how the Clintonistas explain the fact that when Sen. Obama clarified his statement to the people in Indianapolis, they gave him a standing ovation. I don't think you could call that crowd "elite". In fact they seemed pretty middle-class to me. Let us not forget some of the folks in this very forum who don't feel slighted by his comments, but who in fact feel vindicated by them. I wonder if the Clinton supporters think they are out of touch with their own situation.

Hey, " Hatshepsut1988 ", I really regret that your post makes very little sense, other then hints at hysteria!! Senator Obama is a good American, as are Senators, McCain and Clinton. There is no need to pander to people's fears, nor a need to propagandize!! We can make up our own minds, after all we have been doing it for several centuries, now!! We now how to make our choices when it comes to voting, thank you, very much!!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

To All Hillary Supporters From DarrellP:

We need to make sure that Obama's comments about some voters being bitter and Wright's comments stay in the light and forefront of all voter's minds throughout the rest of this campaign season, it is now very obvious to me that Obama has very poor judgment, and just talks entirely too much, why would he say something like that he's trying to win votes from all Democrats to become the Nominee.

I will say this time and time again, Obama is not ready to be Commander and Chief of this Country, if Obama says things like this now, just think what he would say or do if he becomes President? I'm afraid to imagine, Obama is not to be trusted, and Obama supporters need to think long and hard of the negative consequences they will have caused for helping to put this novice Senator in office who really don't know what the heck he's doing.

Obama has done several things during this election process underhandedly to divide our party by race, and gender, now he dividing us by economic class by saying some voters are bitter, when are we going to wake-up and realize that Obama is a divider, not a uniter and change agent he tries to portray himself to be on the campaign trail, the longer Hillary stay's in the race, the more Obama is going to reveal his true personality and demeanor, and that’s a good thing, our party is finally going to see what type of person they're trying to nominate to fight McCain in the general election, and if this happens, we may as well be calling Senator McCain Mr. President in 09, because we will surly lose this race having Obama as our nominee, and if Obama is the Nominee instead of Hillary, he will not get my vote, this Black American will stay home or vote for Ralph Nader on General Election Day, try and block Obama's Presidency, and let the chips fall where they may.

I'm saying; if we lose this election due to making Obama the nominee, I don't want to hear no whining and/or complaining from anyone about the mistake they made for voting for Obama, Our Democratic Party's Voters and Leaders would have gotten what We deserved for putting a "Johnny Come Lately" Senator up to representing our party for the Presidency in the first place over a more experienced Senator, Hillary Clinton, who is more qualified to fix the mess more quickly that Bush will leave behind in 09. One of Obama's campaign slogan is "A Change We Can Believe In," he's right about that, I believe he would definitely be making changes, but not for the better, but for the worst for all America in the long-term.

Our best bet and hope of beating McCain is to go with Hillary to try and win the general election, and send Obama back to Illinois, because if we don’t, we will have 4 or 8 more years of Republican Rule, do we as Democrats really want to take that Chance on a novice Senator? I surely don’t, we better consider and count the cost for making such a mistake like this, the Republicans made a mistake in 2004 for putting Bush back in office for another four years, now we have a war with no end in sight, a felling housing and job market, increased poverty, and a recession just around the corner, please don’t let our party make a similar mistake by making Obama the Democratic Nominee, and if I where a betting man, I would put my money on Hillary to be the winner over McCain, her chances are better in bringing home the Presidency for the Democratic Party over Obama..

Most of Obama's comments were right on the money. In the part that Clinton is attempting to exploit, Obama is obviously referring to what the less direct politicians refer to obliquely as "One Issue Voters". People who are so ticked off, and disillusioned by politics that they look for one dimensional issues as outlets for their frustration. He was not condescending about working people's values, but reflecting on the dynamics of their issues in elections. Clinton is insulting our intelligence if she thinks us working people are too stupid to see the difference.

I used to support Hillary, but her support of NAFTA in the past and in the future is going to further damage the U.S.A. For me, The Bosnia Lie, was the ultimate nail in the coffin. I am not clinging to my gun nor my religion, but I AM BITTER OF WHERE THE AMERICAN ECONOMY STANDS AS OF TODAY. I am forced to get behind the frontrunner Obama now. Sorry Hillary.

I guess I'm an elitist too. I've spent most of my life in small town America and you don't understand what Obama was saying you either haven't spent much time in rural America in the last 20 years or you've had a bag over your head. He is 100% correct. Rural America is bitter - and with good reason.

Shirl, Couldn't have said it better. How could Barack be elitest compared to the Clinton "we are entitled to rule you forever because we know you poor dumb folk can't help yourselves" co-emperors. Don't buy it fellow Pennsylvanians, let's end the 2 family dynasty and put one of our own in - He is black and white, poor and now achieving through hard work, talent , and passion - He is the American Dream personified. Signed "PA Republican turned Dem for Obama"

Obama – Black is Wright

Obama attracts thugs and bullies to his campaign and personal life and is able to do so with impunity.
If Obama where Caucasian, he would have been bulldozed by the media long ago.

Look at Obama’s affiliations:

- Senator Meeks who openly hates whites and gays and is listed prominently on Obama’s campaign website as a major Obama supporter and backer and is one of Obama;s super-delegate. Mr. Meeks has been integral in Obama success in politics.

- Mr. Ayers of the Weather Underground, a group that killed police and tried to bomb the US Capitol, served with Obama on the board of the leftist foundation called the Woods Fund.

- Robert Malley a close senior adviser to Obama who advocates negotiations with Hamas and providing international assistance to the terrorist group.

- Larry Sinclair alleges in 1999 Senator Obama’s arranged to meet him in a limousine, sold Senator Obama cocaine and then gave Senator Obama oral sex. Larry then claims that he and Obama went to a hotel and preformed oral sex again. Mr. Sinclair is testifying in court under oath that these allegations are true.

- Mr. Auchi is an Iraqi billionaire and major financial sponsor and closely connected to Obama’s rise to power.
While working with Saddam Hussein, Auchi made his fortune through the selling of arms in Iraq and the funneling off of money from the Oil for Food program.

- Mr. Rezko an Iraqi citizen and Obama’s and Auchi’s long time friend of 17 years and a major mob figure. Rezko is NOT known for his civic sense of duty and does not do favors without asking something in return. Coincidently the Chicago Times reported yesterday that Rezko was negotiating to purchase rehab buildings in Obama’s district.

- Mr. Wright a racist who hates America and whites (and Italians?). Mr. Wright has been Mr. Obama’s spiritual mentor for over 20 years. Before the media exposed Mr. Wright, he was Obama's chief religious advisor on Obama’s campaign staff. Mr. Wright and Mr. Meeks are ideologically closer to Karl Marx and Black Nationalism, than to Christianity.

- Rashid Khalidi a fundraiser for Obama and is one of Obama’s close friends. Khalidis claim Israel as a "catastrophe", and supports Palestinian terrorist groups.

- Mr. McPeaks is Obama’s military adviser and national campaign co-chairman who publicly states that American Jews are the "problem." and “Christian Zionists were driving America's policy in Iraq to benefit Israel.”

- Michelle Obama trumpets Obama as “the second coming of the messiah,” and also states that she “has NEVER been proud to be an American in her adult life".

The list goes on…

How can Obama’s bad judgment to choose to affiliate with criminals and fanatics be justified?

Hey everybody - am I missing something here?

Are we so in love with the color black that we forget to see the man?

hmmmm a liar like clinton and her fake stories or a truth teller like obama who isn't as artful and deceiving like she is--i will take the honest one anytime. hillary is pathetic. and i am her demographic. a 60 yr. old white woman. she has made me relaly dislike her. so disingenuous. ick

I love this. I was so afraid that the nation would bite this. I have never been more proud of my country than reading your comments everyone. Except those who mistake a lucky boom in silicon valley for Bill Clinton being an economist. But hey, as long as you vote on the facts, you will soon clear that up. I was sickened, seeing all those headlines with pundits saying that this will hurt Obama. It seems Hillary is not the only one out of touch. I'm thinkin' if anyone should be criticized it is the media for promoting this hysteria. I have, to date, not read a single comment (that was not just railing again Obama being a racist and how we never landed on the moon and so forth) that disagreed with what Obama said. Repeatedly people from PA disgusted with Hillary's attempts to smear Obama and at the same time admitting that he is pretty much on the nose. Whether he had to dumb it down for a few San Franciscans so they could understand it is beside the point. I really felt good, reading your comments, as well as the article. Haha, people saying they like tabloid polls better than this little known "Gallup Poll." Who has ever heard of "Gallup," right? HAHAHA. Oh man, I am so happy right now. All of you who face the truth, you are America. You are what America stands for. It is for you that I would fight and die and for you that I pay taxes. God bless you guys.

Hillary is a woeful looser and liar! I support Obama's comments. Lets read it in context and we will find it is packed full of truth and meaning to the present circumstances faced by all Americans.

Hillary the shot frinking card carrying member of the NRA. Give me a break.

Obama is nothing but an Anti-American, Anti-White, Jew, Asian, etc. who looks down upon those without an Ivy League education. His true colors are one of racism. Even he gets the democratic nomination, he will never get the presidency. The man is dispictable.

Mr. Raulks, you have been listening to Sean Hannety too much. He spouts hatred of anyone that disagrees with him on any issue, and your post sounds like it came verbatim from Hannety and Combs. I feel that FOX and CNN don't really care which Democratic candidate goes up in flames as long as one does, and we all need to take a step back and vote on issues. Running for office takes a genuine toll on an individual and sometimes people make statements that can be misconstrued. When that happens, a Democrat shouldn't be tearing down another Democrat. Losing is not easy, but losing the presidency to a 3rd term of President Bush would be a disaster. Obama is a wonderful man, and Clinton is a brilliant woman. But I am smart enough not to be led down that "elitist" path by Clinton. I am not suffering from buyer's remorse, I am pretty bitter that 109 million makes her thinks she speaks for me, and I will vote for the man that gives me hope that we as Americans can help ourselves if we have a President that empowers us to make a difference. Dothemath, in their post, was spot on!! I can make any sacrifice for America that is asked of me when I believe that our leader is willing to sacrifice, too. My pull on the lever will be for B. Obama as President.

This is the first election process where I have heard a candidate express his limitations, imperfections and a realistic view of situations such as they are in this country. All this talk about comments and a condescending attitude on the part of Obama is indicative of a greater problem. Politicians generally pander to what the people want to hear --- the "I'm ok, you're ok" message. But things are not ok and it's ok to say it!! It's what we need to hear. We don't want to hear that we have resiliency, fortitude and stamina. We know that. We need to know that we have a president who sees the reality on a national and global level and is committed to doing something about that which is getting in the way of a quality of life that exceeds what we've had for the past eight years. So, I'll stick with the candidate who won't make up lies to prop himself up and the other who agrees fully with the policies in place until it's exposed and he waffles toward the other side. And, I'll continue to support Obama as long as he continues to show the stamina to weather the storm. His ability and willingness to do so is defining his strength and ability to take on the job -- in spite of the spikes on the seismometer.
