The Commander in Chief of Operation Chaos is in his Miami bunker, cigar firmly clenched in his teeth, radioing edicts and orders to his far-flung, obedient troops to wreak havoc on their perceived political opponents in this ongoing primary campaign.
Rush Limbaugh, he of the non Slim-Fast diet, is in his element these days. One of the loudest voices of the vast right-wing conspiracy is doing everything he can to help a Democrat named Hillary. Clinton. You read right.
Trailing Barack Obama in their party's presidential primary race, she's not about to say anything -- or discourage anyone from supporting her, even her old nemesis from the nineties, good old Rush.
It's not that Rush has seen The Liberal Light or anything like that. It's that he's determined that another Clinton would bring much larger Republican voter unity and turnout come fall than the Illinois guy.
And the longer the two surviving Democrats go at each other, the better it is for Republicans, even if the GOP standard-bearer this fall will be the notorious questionable conservative Sen. John McCain.
McCain is not a Limbaugh favorite. And to the extent that.Rush doesn't have to talk on the air about how conservative the Arizona senator isn't, Operation Chaos is doubly helpful. In reality, the worst thing Limbaugh could do for the conservative cause is endorse McCain now, since that would hurt the senator among moderates and independents.
And if Limbaugh can help keep the intra-party feuding going until the Democratic National Convention in Denver in late August, one side might feel so embittered, it could lose its enthusiasm for Nov. 4.
The Operation has been going on for weeks now. No one knows exactly what effect it's had, but Rush has been encouraging Republicans among his 12-13 million daily listeners to change their party registration, since the GOP race is settled. And help Hillary. Because it hurts Democrats.
Carla Marinucci, the San Francisco Chronicle's esteemed political writer, examined Rush's operation over the weekend and found, for instance, some 100,000 Republicans crossed over in last week's Democratic primary in Pennsylvania.
Another 100,000 Republicans-turned-Democrat-for-now voted for Clinton in Ohio, maybe 120,000 more in Texas, 38,000 in Mississippi. Obviously, not all were following their the orders of their Commander -- or as he brags some Democrats call him, the Great Satan.
And since talk-radio is, after all, entertainment, the publicity for Rush is priceless, especially if some Democrats play into his publicity-grabbing hands and call on the show's advertisers to withdraw financial support. To look at Rush's colorful website -- most of it subscriber-only -- one might get the impression he's doing all right in the direct-marketing business of Operation Chaos shirts, hats and other gear too.
Limbaugh says it was actually the Democrats who gave him the idea for Operation Chaos, by the way they crossed over in some early states to help make McCain the GOP frontrunner. The normally shy and retiring Limbaugh (italics added sarcastically) says he's having "more fun than a human being should be allowed to have."
At one point last week he said, possibly tongue-in-cheek, he wouldn't mind if the Denver convention descended into riots, a la the events in Chicago in 1968 that helped fracture the party and doom Hubert H. Humphrey's drive against Richard Nixon.
But one evergreen rule in politics is, be careful what you wish for. Watching Clinton's stamina and gritty willpower in recent weeks when she's often been counted out, some Republican operatives are wondering now if they really do want to run against the Arkansas couple again. And a new Associated Press-Ipsos poll out Monday appears to confirm that Clinton would do better against McCain than Obama.

Ironically, Rush could ultimately end up helping Libertarian candidate fmr. Congressman Bob Barr, even more than McCain. Barr is now polling 4% in the latest Zogby, even ahead of Nader. The vast majority of Rush's vast Rightwing conspiracy members are hardcore economic libertarians. Barr's message will be especially appealing to them.
They'd be more inclined to vote Barr, than moderate McCain.

It's a sad day for the republicans when they have a candidate that is so bad they must resort to guilt by association, and games being played by the Limpbag. I think if I were a republican today I would have to be ashamed of my party.

Obama's Chickens Come Home to Roost
that’s what Obama gets for his support and defense of the Rev Wright. Obama stated in his speech“Wright is like an uncle you love and respect” As imperfect as he may be, he has been family to me for so many years, I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community” Obama is now declaring himself shocked and disappointed at Wright's unrepentantly racist and anti-American views? Obamas obviously support his feelings of anti-America and white hatred that the church endoreses to stay for 20 years also why would a parent continue to raise their young daughters in that atmosphere .Obama can no longer plausibly claim innocence in this matter, because he is the one who has encouraged Wright by trying to excuse and explain his views. All of this is why it is no use for Obama to backpedal from his association with Reverend Wright, or to denounce him now, six weeks too late. It was Obama who sought to provide the Reverend Wright with immunity from criticism--and he can't complain when the reverend tries to take full advantage of that immunity. This is the final collapse of the noble promise of the Obama campaign. The man who had once put himself forward as the candidate who would transcend racial politics once and for all has ended up legitimizing a Christian equivalent of Louis Farrakhan--and injecting him into the American political debate. Wright “Calls for Justice and Repair,” followed a statement in which he declared that “The Biblical principle of true repentance is that the offended party is given compensation to make up for that which has been stolen from them, the losses that have been inflicted upon them and their families.” A reparations plan for blacks could extract several trillion dollars from American taxpayers’ pockets. THERES ABSOLUTLY NO CHANGE WITH OBAMAhttp://www.dontvoteobama.net

This reporting has really twisted the content of the story and presents a skewed version of the original. http://www.shns.com/shns/g_index2.cfm?action=detail&pk=DEMS-LIMBAUGH-04-28-08
According to the article, research showed that Republicans turned Democrats in PA broke 50 - 50 for Clinton and Obama. All new registrations favored Obama by 52-48 percent.
The numbers presented as voting for Clinton in Ohio, Texas and Mississippi were Limbaugh's estimates, not based on research, nor asserted as actual by the author, Marinucci.
What was not reported, was that Obama's campaign originally produced actual materials in at least several states urging Republicans to cross over and vote for Obama. Titled, "Democrat for a Day" this advertising focused on turning Republican hate for the Clintons into a temporary advantage for Obama, even if they knew that the open primary voters would then vote for the Republican in November. The message was that a vote for Obama would guarantee that there would not be another Clinton in the White House.
Evidence shows that Obama has benefitted more from the strategy than Clinton, so Limbaugh actually is merely providing cover for the strategy of Obama -- the Divider.

give me a break, the only idea that this over-inflated windbag wants to promote is free prescription drugs for everyone.

The interesting part to contemplate, is if he really did help Hillary stay around, and who knows, does he also get credit for exposing Barack's association with Wright? I think amongst conservative radioland Hannity had actually done a great deal of actual reporting on this relationship much earlier, but it didn't get much traction. Much of what he discovered and then communicated has proven pretty accurate. Perhaps Hillary had it laying in wait all along, waiting to spring it when she needed it.
In the end it doesn't matter. McCain will need to say just enough to not supress the conservative base, and Hillary will enrage them to vote against her more than Barack ever would. Actually, the dems have two frotnrunners who are unelectable. Barack is toast, Wright is the gift who will keep on giving, and as Barack's record is viewed with more scrutiny, the public will realize he is a politician like the rest, only more left wing than any other. Hillary, if it is her, will invariably start lying again because she just can't help it - she is a Clinton. Her negatives have always been high and her campaign performance has done nothing more than remind everyone of that. Will black voters stay home as payment for Barack not getting the nomination? If they do, it will be blowout, and might even lessen GOP congressional losses this fall. Very interesting indeed.

I really don't like Rush Limbaugh because of his extreme views. I am Gay, Pro- choice, and feel he has discriminating ideas.
This won't effect my vote one way or another but others may find his involvement too annoying to vote for Hillary, which I see as the best candidate.

Rush Limbaugh is advocating subversion of the constitutionally established electoral process, plain and simple. What a great patriot, huh? He likes to cite all the crossovers for John McCain in 2000 as justification, but those people who crossed over to vote for McCain were doing so in sincerity not to sabotage the Republican Party.

Rush is one of the most un-american voices.
He pretends to be an american, but is truly a communist.
He's a drug addict hack and quite frankly, any fool who listens to him is questionable.

Rush Limbaugh.
I don't need to prove how stupid he & his followers are. Everytime he opens his cigar- stained, fat, mouth is proof of that sad, sad, fact.

I have sent an email to the Public Editor of the Chicago Tribune regarding the blatant distortion and misrepresentation of the original article that appeared in the San Franciso Chronicle.

Don't give Limbaugh that much credit or attention.
The election is a keystone to our collective futures, and individual voters are much more important than Limbaugh.

Andrew
"Be careful what you wish for" is a wise admonition. Whether or not the Operation Chaos strategy is working, we must all ask ourselves the following question: Will the Republican Party--Win or Lose in November, be better off because of Operation Chaos? This is a serious strategy question, we must all consider.

As a conservative and longtime supporter of Senator McCain, I have to agree with what Senator Clinton said about Limbaugh's efforts---be careful what you wish for. I think Limbaugh's campaign makes the GOP look bad because it implies that the GOP ticket can't win in the fall on the strength of its own merits. Fact is, it can and will. I think our republic is best served when we engage in strong, rigorous, mutually respectful debate of relevant issues---and not engage in name calling, character assassination and the various and sundry other low-blow tactics employed by the likes of moveon.org and Rush Limbaugh.

Andy, you just don't get it. We are having a whole lot more fun in this election process than you whiny Liberals.

Rush Limbaugh is on top of his game. The big reason Rush is running operation chaos is because John McCain is too politcally correct to beat on the Democrats.Rush backed Hillary to take Obama out and McCain is too timid to attack him.Hillary does a great job of bashing Obama.
The bottom line is B Hussein Obama is no longer Obamarama or messianic he is just a politcal machine candidate from Chicago. The Rezko trial started all the negativity, then came William Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Louis Farakhan, Hatel Ettel who founded Kindhearts a Muslim charity and Ettel has given mucho money to Obama.
Nadmi Auchi a billionaire friend of Rezko and many
others along with Jeremaih Wright have come to do Obama in.
If Mitt Romney or another conservative had won the nomination they would have been up to Obama or Hillary. Since the liberals and the drivebys gave us McCain its only right that Rush would complicate their nominee selection. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Kudos to ElRushbo and mega didos from Springfield. Jerry White

If by some slim chance Sen. Clinton steals this nomination from Sen. Obama with the help of Limp, I’ll vote for her in the general election even though it would mean politics as usual in Washington. I think that Sen. Obama is the only chance we have to break this constant political bashing from the right, who’s only purpose is to gain power for wealthiest few and screw the rest of us. Like we haven’t had enough of the republics ideas on running this country into the gutter.

It is amazing how no one in the Obama camp is pouncing on this. As ridiculous as it sounds they need to demand that Hillary denounce the support of this wingnut because inadvertently it can be to her benefit especially when you are talking about the possibility of Republicans crossing over to vote for her in the remaining primaries since they no longer need to vote for a Republican because McCain has already been chosen as their candidate. People, get your head out of the Rev. Wright fog and it's time to get back to basics. Obama will be the Democratic nominee yet they cannot rest on their laurels. Start the spinning wheel.

Laughing at this incredibly poorly researched article. Rush did not encourage any rioting at the Denver convention last week, he spoke about a website set up by Obama supporters Doug Wilder and Al Sharpton saying "Recreate '68." He said let Democrats act as Democrats. This is purposeful misrepresentation of what was said. I am always amazed that "journalists" only tell one side of a story and seldom the true side.

Limbaugh doesn't deserve mention. Like Wright, he has his own agenda and will promote it regardless of any substance or how it may hurt others.
These two should team up. They're made for each other.

Nor does he have any good reasons for people to vote for him. Jerry ( king ditto head ) believes beating up the opponent is better than having a reason to vote for their candidate. McBush should have many reasons to vote for him...the war, the economy,.........ooops...I see your point Jerry.

Boo Freaking Hoo, Dems. Enjoy the juicy fruits of payback. McCain benefited from the crossovers and now Operation Chaos is returning the favor. I've got my popcorn out and enjoying sitting back in my easy chair watching the Hillary-Barry O death match. Perhaps now the national parties will wake up to the fact that only registered party members should select that party's nominee.

His contemporaries within in the entertainment industry are green with envy, his detractors are red-faced with fury, and his fans are laughing their un-know-whats-off.
Light up a fresh stogie, lean back in the Attila-the-Hun Chair and just enjoy, Rush…

Operation Chaos is about creating chaos in the Democrat primaries. When Hillary is down, vote for Hillary, if Obama is down, vote for Obama. Simple. Keep them fighting each other, exposing themselves for who they really are. It is NOT about electing Hillary because she would be more "beatable". Rush thinks (and i concur) that neither Obama nor Hillary could beat McCain. It's all about WE THE PEOPLE. In North Carolina the people were enraged that McCain chastised the NCGOP for running an ad that questioned Obama's judgement and patriotism. FAIR GAME. Nothing racist about it. After the firestorm of calls that McCain's camp got he apparently changed his mind about bringing up the Rev. Wright. THE PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW WHO OUR PRESIDENTS ASSOCIATE THEMSELVES WITH FOR 20 YEARS AND WHAT KIND OF CHARACTER AND JUDGEMENT DISREGARDS HEINOUS SERMONS OR A TERRORIST PAST. RUSH is doing us all a service!

I'm an Oregon Republican who switched parties to vote for Hillary in the primary as have at least 8 other folks I know. Given how sensitive people are about talking politics at work that seems to be a strong indicator that Operation Chaos is reaching more people than the MSM would like to admit.

Rush is doing ONE person a favor: himself. It takes courage to face the truth, my friends, and the truth is: you have been duped. After 8 years of listening, it's difficult if not impossible not to conclude that Limbaugh really doesn't give a flying #*%#!! about ANYTHING except how to make more money and how many times people say his name. (And the same can be said of Hannity.) Just think about it. Witness today (a perfect example as is nearly every other show): he spent nearly as much time talking about himself and all the pundits saying his name or boasting about himself as he did about anything even remotely substantial (and I hope no one is naive enough to believe his fatuous explanation that it's not about his ego at all, it was to boost his "troops'" morale) and he managed to work in with the lamest contrivances at least 2 in-show plugs for his favorite hot water heater (this is how he respects his audience, when he isn't hawking or coughing or otherwise snotting all over the mike: there are barely 36 minutes an hour left after news and commercials already and now he's selling them off.....so your water broke, eh Dawn? It sure is hot out. Did somebody say hot water....?). Limbaugh says or does whatever is convenient or expedient at the moment. He has spent years promising us that Hillary as President would be the worst thing that ever happened, ever, ever, ever, yet now he is vastly increasing the odds that this will happen (and surprise, surprise! also coincidentally doing a booming business in Operation Chaos merchandise). And don't kid yourself that no one can beat McCain; he is at best even with either Democrat now and has yet to take any incoming fire. If he can't draw ahead noticeably after months of unopposed fundraising and speechifying and neutral if not rosy coverage, his stock certainly isn't going to rise once the hounds are released. So you see, Rush doesn't care who wins. He's got his heap, it's growing by leaps and bounds. He's getting tons of free publicity and ego-stroking for increasing the chance that what he has often described as the extra-specialist-worst-case scenario of all time could actually happen. So he doesn't care; in fact, it's likely he actually wants Hillary to win; it's better for ratings.

Last I heard, Limbaugh was boasting 20 million listeners PER WEEK, not 12-13 million per day, and that was before his listenership began to wane and fall off. I strongly doubt he's pulling in anywhere near 12 million listeners per day.
That said, the GOP is doomed this year, and they know it. The ONLY hope they can possibly have is to somehow get Hillary nominated, because they feel (probably rightfully so) that she is still so hated and such a divisive figure amongst republi-kooks that her presence would motivate the otherwise decimated, demoralized wingnut party.
Thus, we will continue to see the rightwing pundits cooing and wooing Hillary onto their talking programs, and advising their listeners and viewers to cross party lines in order to vote for her in primaries.
For his efforts recently to incite blood letting and riots in Denver during the democratic convention, the drug addicted ideologue Lumpbah should be hauled off and locked up in Gitmo as an enemy combatant. NOBODY should be allowed to issue marching orders to incite violence in this country.
