Anti-McCain ad seems to work: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Frank James

The Democratic National Commitee ad that attacks Sen. John McCain for his 100-years-in-Iraq remark seemed to have the desired effect with some of the all-important voters who see it, making those voters look less favorably on the senator from Arizona.

That's one conclusion to draw from a study of how some voters reacted to the DNC ad that edited snippets of McCain with video of violence in Iraq.

HCD Reseach Inc., a market research company, found that independent voters went from 50 pecent who saw McCain in a "mostly favorable" light before they saw the ad, to 40 percent after they viewed the ad.

The use by Democrats of the statement McCain made at a town-hall meeting before the New Hampshire primary has been the subject of much controversy.

What McCain was saying in context was that he didn't believe Americans minded how long U.S. troops stayed in Iraq so long as they weren't being killed or maimed. For support, he cited long the decades' long presence of U.S. troops in Japan and Germany.

But Democrats and liberal groups have seized on McCain's 100-years comment as a way to attack McCain for supporting the U.S. military surge in Iraq and insistence that the U.S. only withdraw combat troops upon "victory."

The Republican National Congress has insisted that the DNC drop the "100-years" ad HCD tested on voters as an unfair attack.

Instead, the DNC ad has been followed by a MoveOn.org ad that uses McCain's 100-years remark. The MoveOn.org ad is tied to today being the fifth anniversary of President Bush speech aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln which featured the large "Mission Accomplished" banner behind the president.

Meanwhile, HCD Research's MediaCurves technology, an Internet-based dial meter, found that Republicans found the tested DNC ad the least interesting while Democrats found it of most interest. No surprise there.

(Corrected from an earlier version which incorrectly stated that the tested ad was a MoveOn.org ad, not a DNC ad.)

You can not beat the Truth, don't you know that by now!!? Senators McCain and Clinton can throw all the mud they can muster, it still will not cover up the truth: Senator Obama is a winner and the next President of our great country, America!!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

McCain made these insane comments when he was courting the rightwing lunitic fringe of his Party (the one's who love war...as long as they're not required to serve in them) and he was doing it during the Republican primary.

If McCain didn't want his own words to be used against him he shouldn't have gone around the country doing his best Dirty Harry/Clint Eastwood impersonation while he was courting the GOPer's. I guess he figured that his base (corporate media) would give him another free pass because he's such a Maverick/Straigfht-Talker and all....

If a Dem were to ever make comments like that it not only would be run non-stop on RNC ads, it also would be on a 24/7 loop on Faux News/Rush all the way up until Nov (think Rev Wright).

Personally, I think they should have left in McCaniac's comments about how 100 years in Iraq would be fine as long as US troops weren't getting shot at, etc.

Because that would REALLY show how completely out of touch with reality he is.

What McCain was saying in context was that he didn't believe Americans minded how long U.S. troops stayed in Iraq so long as they weren't being killed or maimed. For support, he cited long the decades' long presence of U.S. troops in Japan and Germany.

That's not what he was saying, that's what he claims he was saying. There's a difference. The larger point, which is absolutely true, is that McCain supports an open-ended commitment in Iraq.

Aside from that, how do you transition from the current violence to a peaceful situation such as we have in Germany and Japan? Hint: we had to win WWII to get there. We had to take Germany by force, and Japan surrendered to us after we nuked Hiroshima and Nagaski.

The people we're fighting in Iraq are religious nutjobs without a centralized government: they will never surrender, and we've already conquered what infrastructure there is to conquer. There's nothing left for us to do with our military, unless you want to eliminate the entire population of the middle east. There is no "success" in Iraq. It doesn't exist. No amount of praying will give Bush and McCain the pony they so desperately seek.

that edited snippets of McCain with video of violence in Iraq.

They stooped as low as to show violence? That's what war is. Sugarcoat it with words of surge is working even though April was the highest deaths in 7 months. They will try to deminish the death of our troops with...well we lost more in the BIG one. What sane person believes western presence in the Middle East will ever do us any good. Their saint Ronnie Raygun knew this...remember Lebanon? Finish the REAL war on terror in Afghanistan and bring our troops home. There are better ways to spend 12 Billion a month. McBush sings ditties about Bomb Bomb Iran????? Are you kidding me? We don't need leadership like that.

You guys can vote for the socialist Democrats if you like. I'm still voting for McCain.

I can't wait for the Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran ads. They should have a lot of fun with that. Not to mention that McCain has had government funded health care his WHOLE LIFE and has seven homes. November should be a cakewalk.

My son is learning about propaganda for his junior high writing class. I showed him this DNC video--with its twisting of the facts and taking quotations out of context--then we compared it to the actual transcript of what McCain said.

My son replied, "Oh, NOW I get it."

Jim-

Call it propaganda if you like. I'm sure there are quite a few people that would be happy to back the withdrawal of the ad if either Bush or McCain would provide a list of milestones defining what "success" is and how long they estimate this might take (preferably milestones that can be measured and met which I might point out has been a task that has evaded the current administration), an estimate of how many more people they feel is an "acceptable" loss, and how many IOU's to the Chinese they are writing that my grandchildren will have to pay off with interest. Since nobody is willing to provide such an estimate, extracting the "100 years" quote seems to me an acceptable stretch until it is replaced by a more realistic estimate.

Or you could also use this opportunity to explain to your son the term "failure as Commander in Chief" among other terms that I'm too polite to publish on a public blog.

I don't mind commenting on The Swamp as long as no one disagrees with me.

I don't mind us spending $13 billion a month in Iraq for 100 years as long as social programs don't have to be cut here at home.

Now I get it, Dad.

Jim...For your sons' sake...I hope they don't start a draft.

Have any of you lumps ever actually heard or read McCain's comments about this in their entirety?
...I thought not.

"MCCAIN SPEAKS"

100 YEARS OR A 100 DAYS, I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE MISSION IS!
I'VE WALKED THE MEAN STREETS OF BAGHDAD!
WHAT IS THE "MISSION" I HEARD WE ACCOMPLISHED IT, SO CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE "MISSION" IS, WAS, HAS BEEN, OR GOING TO BE.
I'VE SEEN 75 GENERALS ON TELEVISION, GETTING PAID TELLING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, THIS, THAT, AND SOMETHING OF THIS OR THAT. SO WHAT IS THE MISSION! I'M 72 YEARS OF AGE, AND I WILL 73 YEARS OF AGE, AND I WILL STILL NOT KNOW WHAT THE "MISSION" IS IF SOMEONE DOESN'T TELL ME BY ELECTION TIME!

WHAT IS THE MISSION IN IRAQ?

I was against this war from the start. However, let me say that those that take advantage of this statement by Sen. McCain are uninformed or simply have bad intentions. Let me explain. Can anyone name portions of a country that we have "occupied" for more than 60 years? Any guesses? How about Japan and Germany where we still have a U.S. presence in the form of military bases. Same goes in South Korea. So for McCain to say we might be in Iraq for 50 - 100 years, is historiclally accurate based on past wars. Anyone who disagrees is uneducated or has bad and simply political intentions.

'The best propaganda is...... the truth'.

The Bush/McCain/Clinton Axis is working in collusion to Swift Boat Obama. They serve their wealthy clients. Obama is the only candidate who wants to do the most good for the greatest number of Americans. Is it any wonder that so many of us will vote for Obama in November but not for the Axis?

100 years as long as we dont get shot at. Well McSAME...they ARE shooting AT US. One candidate doesnt know when she is getting shot an the other doesn't know when the troops are getting shot at. And the present joker already made a victory sign, but hasnt brought anyone home. What a joke.

Hey Get Informed,

Get informed. You GOP hacks looooove war; makes you inadequate types feel like tough guys.

Perhaps McCain can put an asterisk at the fifth anniversary of your hero Dumbya's Top Gun wannabe photo op: "Mission Accomplished*"

I assume you'd showed your son Fox News too right?

I'm pretty much done rooting for any of the campaigns.

But regarding McCain, the attacks are all wrong. McCain specifically states that "as long as troops aren't getting harmed, he'll stay 100 years.

Well, they ARE getting harmed.

So shouldn't people be letting McCain know that and asking, "So does that mean McCain will actually get the troops out SOONER than he's acknowledging?"

I for one saw McCain's comments for what it was: it was meant to state a POST-war presence in the Middle East, specifically Iraq. Having a presence in the Middle East will be a deterrent for growing terrorism! It makes sense to have a peacetime army available POST Iraq war. He didn't claim we'd be fighting for 100 years. Geez. And yes the Iraq War is taking longer than expected but the Iraqis will once and for all take hold of their situation and we can NOT afford to have a vacuum appear where militia extremists will take hold like the Taliban and create another terrorist state.

let's put an end to the occupation comparison, shall we?

At the end of the Second World War, Japan was occupied by the Allied Powers, led by the United States with contributions from Australia, British India, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. This was the first time since the unification of Japan that the island nation had been occupied by a foreign power. The San Francisco Peace Treaty, signed on September 8, 1951, marked the end of the Allied occupation, and when it went into effect on April 28, 1952, Japan was once again an independent state.

there's a treaty in place with Japan, same thing with Germany, called NATO, which keeps U.S. troops and bases there.

No such treaty exists between U.S. and Iraq, as much as GWB would like to before his term ends.

Get informed...This lump heard him sing a little ditty about bombing Iran.....everyone sing along.....

Obama and Hillary are no more socialists than GWB is a conservative. Get a clue.

Doesn't matter. Obama, Jeremiah, Michelle, Bill, Louis and their hard-left coalition of hate will be defeated by intelligent, decent and caring Americans everywhere.

the truth is the best informative tool. that is why everyone should go out and rent the 1962 version of the manchurian candidate as they consider the merits of obama's campaign. i am not saying i am just saying. reach your own conclusions.

Obama has no clue. The greatest good for the most people. I guess you all want your taxes raised. Remember who controls congress now. The ame people who will not let us drill for oil or build more refineries. Now we are taking all our food and making it into less efficient fuel. The economy is doing poorly because of idiot democrats not allowing people who use common sense to run the country the right way.

This is news?

Can we get some balance at this paper? Do we really need to have democratic propaganda shoved down our throat?

Isn't journalism supposed to be objective?

I guess you guys are on Daley's payroll.

RNC stands for "Republican National Committee" not "Republican National Congress."

Some political reporting!

These were McCain's own words and if you expand on his own words like he wants then they only make him look more crazy and insane because Iraq will never be like Korea, Germany etc and everyone knows that.

In case McCain hasn't already noticed, they're not really big on Democracies over there and they haven't been for around, oh, 1300 years or so.

McCain should just shut up about this because the more him and his fellow Wingnuts cry about it the more attention it gets.

Why don't you pass that on to team McCain for me, ok Wingnuts?

Another set of lies coming from the liberal left. You know the same will happen to Hillary or Obama, and they have now earned it. Why not just take words out. Obama says "I do NOT agree with all the Rev. Wright says", we just cut out the word "NOT", and loop on images of people rioting in the streets. That would be comparable after all.

Hey everybody - want to make yourself dumber? Read a comment board on the internet. Between all the name-calling, incorrect facts, propaganda, and good ole fashioned hate, I guarantee you'll lower your IQ by a point a minute!

No, McCain does not want to stay fighting in Iraq for 100 years. He was just demonstrating that people don't care about the fact we're there, they care about the fact that so many lives and so much money is being wasted. No, McCain does not want to bomb Iran. His little song was ill-advised, but he was making a joke about the fact that all the media talked about for weeks was whether we should attack Iran. Of course, the people who call him things like McCainiac and McSame do make well-reasoned, intelligent counterpoints.

Quote: "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW. "

I am sick and tired of you idiot liberals playing arm chair quarterback with my war! Have ANY of you ever met a terrorist!?! I have! Have you ever stared one in the eye and tried to figure out what made him tick???

In 2006, when Abu Musab was killed, I asked a group of known terrorists what they thought (feciously looking for a little provocation, I admit). Do you know what their leader told me??? "It's okay. We fight to die."

You morons want that mentailty here??? You think the Iraq war sparked a powder keg of terrorism??? You must've forgotten Kenya, Tanzania, the USS Cole, WTC 1993, the USMC barracks in Beirut, the US Embassy in Tehran, Israeli olympians massacred... the list goes on and on!

Shut up, let us do our thing, and I just want you guys to know that most of us Soldiers find it a ludicrous statement to say that you support the troops but not the war. Would you tell a doctor "I support you, but you need to stop healing people," or a cop "We think you're great! But, those criminals are just misunderstood" would you? WE MANAGE VIOLENCE! It's what we do! Leave us to our jobs and stand behind us while we serve our mission instead of telling us "we support you but not the war."
If you won't stand behind us, you're more than welcome to stand in front of us.

You have a couple troops (always the same guys) paraded in front of the media because they're anti-war. By and large, we find those guys to be douchebags.

Oh, and someone mentioned the draft??? We volunteer so you idiots don't have to be drafted. Remember that next time you bash the war, and ask yourself why we stay in if WE don't believe in the mission.

Mark - do you know who has been in office for the last 8 years? It is in the toilet because GWB is an idiot that will go down as the worst president in the history of the United States. He has done nothing but make sure his oil baron buddies keep getting richer. He is a war criminal that has left 43 million Americans without health insurance. Unemployment rate is 6%, 9 million people out of work, 3.3 million more than when he took office. He is a deserter that left his unit during Vietnam and was reportedly AWOL for over a year from The Texas Air National Guard, or as it’s referred to by other military outfits, "The Champagne Division". His proposed "free trade" agreements would have resulted in the loss of U.S. jobs to foreign markets and the exploitation of third world workers. He cut health care benefits for veterans’, reduced reproductive rights. If another republican is in the office you may as well sign up your children for the Third World job market

The Dumocrats sure love twisting words around, don't they?

Wow, short video clips can be used in many interesting ways. Down under they have these things called boomerangs. The GOP is going to be ducking them the entire election season.

We haven't yet gotten to the Hagee stuff, but we will. Rove called the Catholic vote, in 2004, the most important one to the GOP. Catholics are going to love seeing McCain praise and embrace Hagee and seeing Hagee call the Pope the antichrist and the Catholic Church a "wh0r3".

There's much more to this insight on McCain.

He has the gumption to think that Americans would even WANT to stay in a peaceful Iraq. Why would we want to? Americans don't want to be in Iraq whether it's peaceful or not.

Good point, Greg. It's a shame that the Trib editors, who will prattle on endlessly about the need for a more civil and constructive debate of the issues, typically do not moderate this board in any meaningful manner that prohibits or even discourages ad hominem attacks, semi-libelous name calling, and character assassination. It's a real sin of omission on their part, and they contribute to a coarsening of public discourse and the continued dumbing down of America.

If the Obamaniacs get their way troops may come home but war on terror will make it way back to our shores. In addition to the Terrorists the American public will have to fight off the super Socialists

One poster here wrote: "you cannot beat the truth." That's right. And when voters realize that the Democratic party took McCain's words out of context, who do you think should see the backlash? Finally, for all you dimwitted cheap shooters who enjoy calling McCain names, you're dreaming if you think Mr Badact Insane Oh'bummer would be able to wave a magic wand and miraculously bring peace and stability to the middle east. He hasn't even been able to negotiate peace with his former pastor, much less with militant factions from abroad.

The Iraq-Japan analogy doesn't work.

Iraq is not Japan. Iraq is part of a larger Arab world in which the U.S. presence will used by those who resent foreign occupation. There is no Hirohito to urge acceptance of the occupation. So unless we want to occupy the entire Middle East for the next 100 years, something even the U.S. lacks the power to do, we'd better seek out a leader with more sense than McCain.

If the Obamaniacs get their way troops may come home but war on terror will make it way back to our shores.

Someone's son must be failing.

I took my child to the Holocost Museum in DC not too long ago. Upon entering the building some volunteer came over and gave us each small cards--and an overview of the museum. My very young daughter's card had a Jewish name on it and it said she died. It seemed to have taken the wind out of my child a bit. My card said I lived through the Holocost. I will hate that museum and that SOB for not telling me, the parent of a (sensitive) minor, what was contained in the cards--as my daughter opened hers right away. I would have said, no thanks. Upsetting children is not necessary to learning. We did not stay long. Afterwards, we ended up calling it The Propaganda Against Propaganda Museum Built In The Wrong Country. To anyone who will listen, I tell the story about the forced propaganda at the museum and, IMO, the form of child emotional abuse that occured there that day. Propaganda of all sorts really sucks. And, it can make one greatly dislike the source.

BTW, the Viet Cong never followed us home. We left w/o a "win". They didn't follow us home. Iraq isn't ours to win. As long as McShame and Bush say we must win, the Iraqis will never think it is theirs to win.

Sgt. Van Buren, I applaud and thank you for your service to our country. However, it is not necessary to support the "mission" to be able to support the troops. Shouldn't we be able to disagree with our leaders? Isn't that what freedom is about? And what is wrong with wanting our brave soldiers, like you, out of harms way. I have seen many bloggers who say they are soldiers, that are against the war. (and I will trust you as them, I'm not going to search your name) People have differences of opinions, and they are all valid. But don't tell people they are unpatriotic just because they want to see you come home safe and soon.

So McCain says we could stay 100 years if they're not shooting at us. Of course, they are shooting at us, so how will he get them to stop? McCain's only answer is that we have to keep "surging." Well, April was the deadliest month since September, with 52 more Americans killed. Meanwhile Iran is taking over the government, Sunni's are defecting, militias continue to spar, and the green zone is mortared with impunity. So the "surge" isn't exactly working. Thus, the DNC properly makes its point -- McCain wants a permanent presence in Iraq, which will cost many more American lives, not to mention trillions of dollars. Actually, Republicans should just be happy the DNC didn't show McCain's other quote, where he ups the ante to "1000 years, 10,000 years." Maybe they're saving it, so they can eventually show America know how senile this guy really is.

HILLARY 'TOWN HALL' TO BE HOSTED BY EX-CLINTON STAFFER STEPHANOPOULOS
Thu May 01 2008 17:25:20 ET

Just hours before the Indiana and North Carolina presidential primaries, ABCNEWS has offered to air a 'town hall' meeting with Hillary Clinton -- to be hosted by former Clinton staffer George Stephanopoulos!

Embracing and racing through a brave new era of journalism, it is not clear if ABCNEWS will inform viewers of Stephanopoulos's past employment.

Stephanopoulos helped run Mr. Clinton's first presidential election campaign and acted as his press secretary and advisor on policy and strategy before joining ABC NEWS.

An executive at a rival network mocked, "We look forward to ABC holding the next town hall meeting with President Bush, hosted by Karl Rove!"

ABC will air the hour-long Hillary forum live from Indianapolis on Sunday.

"George has interviewed all the candidates time and time again and has put tough but fair questions to each," said a network spokesman. "Expect the same on Sunday."

The network hit controversy last month over the decision to allow Bill Clinton's former press secretary to moderate a debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama -- without any disclaimer.

Obama is scheduled to appear on NBC'S MEET THE PRESS, where he is expected to receive a traditional grilling by host Tim Russert.

If troops are not getting killed, we can stay be cause Americans will be ok with it. But if the troops are being killed, we have to stay, right? So how do we come home John McCain??????????????????????????????

It's interesting to see how the media ALWAYS provides the GOP TALKING POINTS explanation of what McCain was "REALLY" saying. Isn't it funny that they never did any favors for John Kerry (like just telling their audience the truth and refuting the rightwing lies) when he was swiftboated? So here's what McCain was REALLY saying: "I am fine with staying in Iraq for 100 years, as long as it conforms to my bizarre fantasy that Iraq is a peaceful democracy, not a country torn apart by a civil war fueled by ancient hatreds that will never be resolved."

Somebody please tell US Army SGT Travis Van Buren that many of us were in the wars of our generations. Unlike him, however, we learned our agonizing lesson - that we were the suckers for the siren song of Patriotism and Duty. We found that those who bleated the loudest about "honor" and "sacrifice" and "liberty" and the other propaganda codewords were nowhere to be found in the war itself, unable to unwrap theselves sufficiently from the flag, I guess.

Seageant, you are in the most groupthink environment we create. There can be no second-guessing, and everybody has to buy into the game, if everyone is to survive.

Please do not try to tell me that your opinion is in any way balanced. You simply cannot allow yourself to think about being used for such a draconian purpose, . . nor could I for the first 20 years.

For now, accept that not all of your opponents in this discussion are ignorant of fighting in unpopular wars in far-away lands. Soon enough, you'll have your moments of second thoughts. When you do, get some help. They only get worse.

-------------------------------------
Excuse me, but we are not occupying those countries. We have military bases there, and we are there at their invitation, not having invaded them and then refused to leave. That's very different from invading and then occupying a country against the will of it's people and it's government (the real Iraqi government, the Parliament).

I'm sure that no one regrets the "100 years" and "bomb bomb Iran" remarks more than John McCain, and there may be a perfectly valid context in which they are defensible (it's a stretch, but for the sake of argument, let's go with it).

However, let's not overlook the real issue: Sen. McCain suffers from the tragic delusion that there is a military solution to our problems in Iraq and the Middle East.

Because war has given McCain's life meaning, he believes that war can bring happiness to others. This deadly, flawed perspective must not be permitted access to that awful Red Button.

Taken out of context or not, the simple truth is that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY our troops will be allowed to remain "peacefully" in Iraq the same way they have in Germany and Japan.

Does anybody really think that the Iraqi people are going to want us to remain stationed there like in Japan? Does anybody really believe that the attacks on our servicemen will stop? Does John McCain have a magic wand to wave at the Iraqi people to make the accept our permanent presence in their country?

When every Republican in the world has to spend so much time trying to explain to the rest of us what Pappy McCain REALLY meant, in order to make him appear less like a crazy, doddering old warmonger, you know the only way he's going to see the inside of the White House is when the Democratic President invites him over to wax the floors.

And the Dems haven't even STARTED running the ads against McCain. When the ads about his infidelity to his first wife, his brazen corruption in the Keating Five scandal, his flip-flopping all over the place, he won't be able to come up for air. It's going to be sad when he finally snaps, but entertaining in a sad kind of way.

Considering the Conservatives don't like McCain, I'm wondering who's going to vote for him. Maybe he's really popular with the certain type of old folk who have onions on their belts.

Google: PROJECT FOR NEW AMERICAN CENTURY (PNAC).....

Document written by Neo-Cons in 1992 planning the invasion of Iraq, Iran and Syria (in that order). Each participant in the plan signed the bottom of it (like the Constitution)....names like Wolfowitz, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Andrew Card, Bolton, and many others who ended up on the Bush cabinet. The plan was written by Bill Krystol (the 'pundit' on Fox News). If McCain or Hillary are elected....the plan will be carried out. This is what Hillary meant when she proclaimed....Obama CAN'T WIN ! This is also why it seems that McCain and Hillary are on the same side....because they are. The other day Huffington Post began to expose how the 'military experts' who have appeared on ALL the cable news were all paid by the Pentagon (Bush Regime) to mislead America in order to continue the war...(and further the PNAC Plan). This is why they keep bringing up Iran as the next target....and Hillary exposed herself when she proclaimed she would 'obliterate' Iran. Hillary, the GOP, McCain and the Republican corporate media (which owns many of the companies that make the tanks, bombs and other weaponry) are doing everything to stop Obama from winning. If he does win....their PNAC Plan will be put to a hault. THIS MUST BE STOPPED !!! Don't vote to just win....vote FOR the future of our country !

Way to go, DNC! I am glad this ad is showing people how McCain really feels. This war is based on a LIE and it is time to stop fighting for oil and bring our troops home! The Iraqis don't want us there.

Obama '08!

The next ad will show McCain saying, "they're lying when they say I said we could be in Iraq for 100 years". Then they'll replay the tape of him saying it. Can't win my friend.

My son is learning about propaganda for his junior high writing class. I showed him this DNC video--with its twisting of the facts and taking quotations out of context--then we compared it to the actual transcript of what McCain said.
My son replied, "Oh, NOW I get it."

Does that mean he'll be one of soldiers who die in Iraq twenty years from now?

McCain whines that he is being mischaracterized?

100 years in Iraq IS 100 years of live bloody fighting. PERIOD.

It ain't post WWII Germany, Japan or South Korea. It is just fundamentally different, & McCain's failure to admit or recognize that FACT disqualifies him as sound rational presidential material.

Gee, but when the media kept repeating the same sound bites over and over again of Rev Wright it was ok? I don't recall McCain saying it was unfair then or may be it was out of context? But now when he is the target it's not fair lol!
