Add Ari Fleischer, President Bush's first press secretary, to the voices from the Bush camp asking what happened to the Scott McClellan whom they knew.
McClellan, press secretary from 2003-2006, has published a book accusing the Bush White House of widespread "deception'' in the selling of the war in Iraq and other matters. He did not write this "to settle scores or enhance my own role,'' McClellan writes, but rather to acknolwedge the "deception'' which had enveloped him during his tenure as spokesman for the president -- "one of the most painful experiences of my life.''
"Well there's just something about it that doesn't make any sense,'' Fleischer told FOX News Channel today, "and I say that because Scott never once approached me publicly, privately, to express any misgivings...I would think if he harbored such deep feelings about things he wouldn't have and shouldn't have accepted the press secretary job in the first place."
Asked about why the book -- What Happened, Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception -- is coming out now, Fleischer said: "I don't know. I wish I knew. I will always like Scott ,and my heart goes out to him in so many ways. He had a very tough time at the White House.
"He got dealt a deck of cards that were very tough,'' Fleischer said of his successor at the West Wing. "He was the press secretary at a time when the war in Iraq started to go very badly, he had issues inside with staffers who deceived him."
(Among those staffers: Karl Rove, whom McClellan had been told had no knowledge of the administration's leak of a CIA operative's identity when her husband criticized the administration for manipulation of pre-war intelligence, and said so at the press podium that he held for the better part of three years.)
"There are some legit issues that Scott raises, but the point he makes about the president and the war in Iraq, that's the part I just don't understand,'' Fleischer said.
Parts of the book, he said, "don't sound like Scott McClellan."
"It's got his name on it, and Scott knows that and he said the chips will fall wherever they may -- that's what he told me yesterday -- but on principle and on policy this doesn't make any sense to me because if it did, I think Scott would have expressed it privately and repeatedly."

Comments
Fleischer lives in a world of deniability and it's not terribly plausible.
Check out this piece from Helen Thomas after he announced his retirement. Even though Thomas speaks somewhat fondly of him, Fleisher clearly lives in a non-reality-based world.
"Fleischer was asked if he had ever lied to the press", he replied: "Absolutely never."
-
"Fleischer said he had tried to follow two rules in his tough job: "Always let the truth be your guide, and keep a sense of humor."
Really, I would think it would be hard to be funny when you're helping an administration lie the country into a bloody, useless war

All of the Bushies peddle nonsense. That is what the Bush /Cheney Regime has been all about. There is no news in what McClellan has to offer, nor is there any news-worthiness in what Fleischer offers !!! It has been a nonsensical cast of characters, during both terms of this incompetent administration, all 8 years !! If you like this (mis)administration, you are going to love, Senator " Questionable Conduct " McCain's tenure, if you are deficient enough to vote for him !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

Ahh, all these disingenuous cronies who ruined our nation are crawling back out from under their rocks and out of their rat holes.
Like Rove, who cares what this guy has to say? He, like McClellan, was NOTHING BUT A PARROT who was paid to read a line. Except unlike McClellan, Fleischer's close, personal friendship with The Worst President is well documented and is likely tainting any objectivity that I doubt Fleischer has.
The fact that Bush has to have all his co-conspirators and cronies slither to the surface speaks volumes about the insecurity and discomfort this specific book has raised among this criminal enterprise occupying the White House. They didn't respond so harshly to previous members of their conspiracy that wrote books critical of their enterprise.

I suggest everyone read the preface to WHAT HAPPEN HERE by Scott McClellen enclosed above before you make any posts, which in some instances, are off the wall partisan remarks that make no sense. McClellen gives the reasons for writing the book. McClellen also gives a view of Washington as highly divided and partisan. Bush went in Washington, according to McClellen, as a uniter who could work with both sides as he did in Texas. But he also fell into this partisan climate. Read the preface to the book and I believe you will see what I mean.

What ex Bush administration official has NOT said the president is a liar? The man is a disgrace and should have been impeached long ago.

Ah, the Karl Rove game plan is still alive and in play. Scott McClellan has belatedly decided to be a truth teller. He has exposed the dark inner workings of the Bush Administration.
And all the vermin are none too happy to see the light of day.

On Iraq, Bush said the same thing as Bill Clinton, Al Gore, British Intelligence, Rockefeller of the intelligence Committee, Hillary, Albright, Berger etc but somehow Bush lied or mislead. There were 16 violate UN resolutions, Congress voted over 60% for the Iraq action. The public was overwhelmingly for the action in 2003 but somehow Bush lied. It is the media that spreads propaganda.
On Katrina, Bush asked Nagin to evacuate on Saturday. Nagin chose not to. He chose not to stock the shelters. Blanco delayed calling in the guard. On Monday the storm hit but most thought the storm turned and New Orleans had dodged the bullet. On Tuesday, the damage was know. It was one of the worst storms in history. Within 72 hours (3 days) the town was essentially evacuated by the military. it was an amazing response. There were obviously mistakes but the 500,000 person town was evacuated in 3 days without much help from the state or the mayor. Yet now, McClellan says the Bush Admin was in denial and inactive for a few days. The town was completely evacuated in three days, how is that denial or inaction? Again, it is the media and McClellan that is spreading the propaganda.
On the CIA leak. Valerie Plame lied about her involvement in sending her husband to Niger. In January, Joe Wilson reported that indeed Iraq tried to get Uranium from Niger. Six months later he wrote an Op ed saying they didn't. Of course the media didn't give a darn about his first report only his fictional op ed. There was no underlying crime because Plame was not a CIA operative by definition. The media and Fitzgerald knew there was no crime because they didn't go after Richard Armitage, the actual leaker. But after all he was anti war so he was OK. Wilson, Plame and the media have lied about the issue ever since. Roves involvement seems to be that Novak said he heard Plame worked at the CIA and Rove said so you heard that too. Boy that was a conspiracy. And the Bush Admin did not send the minions out to trash Fitzgerald like the Clintons did with Starr.
McClellan basically knew he would get attention if he went negative while Bush was still in office and the media are willing accomplices because it fits their agenda.

It looks to me that McClellan wants to sell books and secure a role as a commentator or television pundit in the future. What better way to achieve these goals than to write a book critical of the administration.
In the end, it's just a little more fodder for the anti-Bush crowd.

You must be joking. No one is that stupid, aside from George Bush of course.

Right....Bush should be impeached, just like Clinton should have been impeached. Ooops....I guess Billy Bob WAS already impeached. Anyone remember that?!?!?

"Parts of the book, he said, "don't sound like Scott McClellan."
Well, if it's not Scott, just who does Ari think it is?

You know, I don't particularly care whether, as McClelland claims, Bush was a straight arrow who was corrupted by the partisan nature of national politics. (Although I doubt it - his involvement with Rove, who has to be the most twisted, Machievellian megalomaniac in the history of this country, goes way further back than the US Presidential campaign). What's important to me is that, in a really fundamental way, he betrayed the trust of the people of this country. A man of nearly unlimited power, privilege and connections, he used this country like it was his own personal country club bathroom. If he was too weak to withstand the pressures of partisan politics, he should have stayed away from Washington D.C. But he chose to lead a life of junk and lies.

More republic historical re-writes by jh1. The american public was split 50/50 over the Iraq war just two weeks before it started. Polls in Great Britain showed 80% of the voting public was against invading Iraq. In Spain 75% were against it. The vote authorized the murder-in-chief to use force at his discretion as an absolute last resort. That never happened. He should be impeached and jailed.

instead of calling people names, why don't you point out the inaccuracies in jh1's statements.
oh yeah, that's right, can't be bothered with the facts.

Jh1,
that has to be the stupidest post of all time. Stop listening to Limpbaugh and Insannity. You've no sense of reality what-so-ever, as all of your myths have been debunked months ago. The most fightening aspect about your post is that you actually get to vote in the upcoming election.

Iraq: Nothing that went on in Iraq under Sadaam constituted an "act of war". (more sanctions, but certainly not war) And while Congress was stupid enough to go along with Bush's lies, they were still lies. It is a FACT, that Bush knew there were no WMD's when he claimed there were. We also know the famous "16 words" of his one SOTU was intentionally misleading.
Katrina: Nagin was an idiot pre-Katrina, Bush an idiot after. They both messed up. But it was Bush's incompetence in putting FEMA under the Dept. of Homeland Security that created a needless beuracracy that slowed down relief efforts at the time they were most critical.
CIA leak: Haven't really followed it enough to know. But Novak is a conservative columnst. Kind of tough to call it a conspiracy.
As for McLellan's book. Who cares? He is trying to sell A BOOK. DUH!!!
I won't be reading it.
