Hillary Clinton's 'veil of gloom': The Swamp
The Swamp

A friend of the senator suggests it's time to find an exit "with dignity.''

The Swamp

by Glenn Thrush

It ain't over 'til it's over, but a growing number of Hillary Rodham Clinton's closest friends now think it's really over.

A veil of gloom descended on Clinton's campaign Wednesday, with people close to her questioning how long the former first lady could -- or should -- remain in the race following a surprisingly thin Indiana win and blowout loss in North Carolina on Tuesday.

"I don't see any way she can put this together any more -- she can't win the popular vote or the delegate count -- so what's the rationale?" said a major Clinton supporter from New York, speaking on condition of anonymity. "I think the challenge now is letting her leave with dignity and grace and letting the process go forward. She has got to leave on a high note. She's got to determine her own exit strategy."

Trying to head off calls for her to quit, Bill and Hillary Clinton are planning a major conference call as early as Thursday to address the anxiety and anger among their donors, surrogates and superdelegates -- who provide her last, thin hope of capturing the nomination.

Behind the scenes, her top advisers were lobbying backers to keep them from defecting to Obama, and Clinton flew to Washington to make a private plea for support to uncommitted congressional superdelegates.

Publicly, however, Clinton and her staff were dismissive of suggestions she exit the race. They also denied any suggestion they are secretly negotiating with Obama over a possible deal to end the 16-month nomination fight that might include a "Dream Ticket" vice-presidential deal, or the retirement of Clinton's mounting campaign debt.

"There are no discussions," Clinton strategist Howard Wolfson said.

See the rest of the report from Newsday:

The glum mood among Clinton supporters wasn't improved by news that she was forced to lend the campaign an additional $6.4 million after writing herself a check for $5 million in late January. Wolfson added that she "is willing" to make future loans if needed and said he hoped the disclosure of the cash infusion would spur online donors.

There was one bright spot for Clinton -- an anticipated cascade of superdelegates to Obama following Tuesday night didn't materialize. Four superdelegates and failed 1972 Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern, who had supported Clinton, endorsed Obama. Clinton picked up one superdelegate, North Carolina Rep. Heath Shuler.

To some supporters, however, it felt like a temporary reprieve. One longtime friend and adviser said Tuesday's results pointed up a troubling aspect of her candidacy -- even Democrats turned off by Obama's relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. preferred a damaged Obama to Clinton.

"She couldn't close the deal," said the friend. "She succeeded in raising doubts, but voters didn't view her as a real alternative. And that's the conundrum of Hillary Clinton -- it's always been the case -- a lot of people just don't like her and that's ultimately what did her in."

In another ominous sign for Clinton, California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, one of her most stalwart supporters, fretted publicly about "negative dividends" from Clinton staying in the race. "I'd like to talk with her and her view on the rest of the race and what the strategy is," she told The Hill newspaper.

Clinton, who hastily scheduled an early-morning rally in West Virginia to counter talk that she was mulling a fast exit, was defiant Wednesday.

Shorn of a clear statistical rationale -- she has virtually no chance of catching Obama in pledged delegates or popular vote in the six final contests -- Clinton opted for a fiery political argument. Speaking to reporters, Clinton suggested Obama was setting up Democrats for a November loss comparable to John Kerry's defeat in 2004 because the Illinois senator doesn't enjoy Clinton's popularity with women, working-class voters, swing-state independents and Hispanics.

But even Clinton supporters urging their candidate to stay in until the South Dakota and Montana primaries on June 3 see the finish line but aren't prepared to predict Clinton will get there.

"Why should she quit?" said Clinton fundraiser Hassan Nemazee. "This isn't February or March. Let people vote. We are talking about being three weeks away from the last primary. ... Maybe I'm deluding myself, but I would advise her to stay in until the end. As long as you are wearing the uniform, you have a chance to win the game."

The American public will suffer once again if they elect Obama. With Hilary, we get her and Bill's expertise. I sat by in stunned disbelief when I witnessed people praise Bush 4 years ago, now look what a mess he has gotten us in.

The super-delegates might be waiting in the futile hope that she'll find a classy way to exit, and they won't have to dump her, and be accused of being sexist.

How could you vote for either.
They do not have any experience running anything.
What a disaster if either get into power.

Hillary, my humble message to you is this: If the "boys club" in Washington can't take your strength, poise, intelligence and perseverance and the DNC chooses instead to nominate an inexperienced, slick, elitist politician, then PLEASE run as an Independent. Your 16 million supporters, to date, are behind you and we want YOU as our next President. Period.

America, meet the true HIllary Clinton. Don't you see it? If she cannot have the "toy", she is determined to make sure no one else gets it, even if she has to "break" it instead. The horror is this - it is the American election process that she is breaking. What a classy lady to elect as the leader of the most powerful nation in the world!

Why should she quit? How about because she CAN'T win and for the good of the Democratic Party?

Unless she feels so entitled, she thinks she IS the Democratic Party. Which has always been my suspicion.

Hillary, if that's really your name, will you leave gracefully, or in a strait jacket?
There is lipstick on your teeth.
Your impermeable helmet of hair is cracked
The snipers have gone on vacation
Don't make us watch this ugly spectacle any longer.
Go back to "fighting" for New York.

Dear Fellow Americans.

Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is and will face very critical and substantial
"Challenges" in coming,
months, years, and decades.

It is very essential that we pick our next
President on the basis of following criteria.

1. A candidate with a clear "Vision and Mission".

2. A candidate with a sound " Character and Integrity"
.

3. A candidate with a evident "Presidential
Temperament" and " Principled Judgment".

4. A candidate with "little "Washington exposure"
and "real future and past Voters".

5. A candidate who "Inspires us up" rather than
"Tears us down".

6. A candidate not based on past "sexism, racism, and
ageism".

In my professional and personal opinion, the only
candidate who has shown the above qualities and
characteristics is Senator Obama.

As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and In over time last
interest in "Washington politics".I stopped voting.
Not a good idea under any circumstance, particularly
at present time.

This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and
let Washington remain the same.We can not afford our
Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are and
can be.

We need to send clear and candid message to the world
and some 24 hour partisan piosonous hateful media.

These type of media outlets are trying to deprive,
dupe, and derail us from getting it right this time.

I pray and hope that we the American people won't be
part of this deception, seduction, and confusion.

These type of media and pundits are trying there best
to deny us better and replac our past remember some of
our bitterness and differences. { "Our Greatgrand
Nations people are persistently and constantly
subjected to Psychological terrorism" without our
knowledge by these these poisonous hateful partisan
media outlets".

We Americans are should not and would not to allow
these type of media psychologically terrorized,
traumatized and silence us this time. Not this time.

I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama our next President. let
us not get dragged down into racism, sexism and
ageism.

Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of
family, friends,fellowships, faith, funds,foundations,
fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without
fear or favor.

We can not afford to lose any of above conectins. Let
us stand up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand
Nation for decades to come and regain our world
economic, and power status back.

God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse
people.

Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future
stability, security, safety,sustained progress and
restoration of our due status in this perilous Global
World at the all levels.

I am 77 years old, female, a Betty Friedan original feminist and I support and voted (in the primary)for Barack Obama. Hilary Clinton has far too much hubrus - stilll accusing Obama of resenting "her" support, etc. I am not considering a vote for Hilary -- please stop saying that only the black vote is his.

Aah . she's down to her last $90000000
[million]jj Don't fill up your gas tank,
send $50 dollars to poor ,sad Hillary

Time for the kneecapping thug to slither back under her dubiously funded Chappaqua Mansion.

The latest primary was a strong indication that the country is tired of the smoke a mirrors politics that the Clintons seem to thrive in! Go Barack!!

"As long as you are wearing the uniform, you have a chance to win the game"

- No you don't, if the numbers don't make sense. Sometimes the game is already played out before the buzzer, and this is such a case.

More importantly, if she doesn't have the sense to see when she's defeated, and to do what's good for the party, then that casts a shadow on her judgment in general. She's behaving in a very irrational manner. Would we want such a president?

It is time. Hillary needs to find the exit and let the party go on without her. The article hits the main problem some voters have, they just don't like her, and if you can't like the person, how can you vote for them. There are too many things in her past, including Bill, that just makes her the weaker candidate.

Its McKinley and Roosevelt all over again.

I guess Obama "Closed the Deal" LOL!
Throw that in her face!

Sorry, guys. This is not going to be a graceful exit by Hillary. It is not in her character. There is going to be a lot of vitriol spewed on the carpet. And many Democrats, who want a woman president regardless of personality makeup or policies, will be as equally graceless and bitter. Of course there will be the usual positive front de rigeur; but only the blind and the deaf will not be able to see through that. And this milieu swirling around Obama, who has truly shown himself to be a man of conscience, honesty, and decency, will not do him, the Democratic Party, or the United States any good at all. This is an opportunity for this country, perhaps for some time, to elect a mixed-race president who knows both sides of the street and who has a head on his shoulders and an unsold soul to boot. And the Democrats, true to form as usual, are looking to blow themselves up.

Hilary in '11 !!

(Ooops, its '12. I can't do math either!)

Obama is destined to accomplish the Dream of Martyr Luther King.
May God Bless him!

Is it me, or does she seem like a cross between The Manchurian Candidate and a Stepford Wife? She seems kind of deranged.

That would be great for America. If Hillary ran as a Perot against the Democrats this time it would be a guaranteed Republican victory. How nice of Hillary to let her self righteous quest for glory stop any change from happening.

Once again Democrats will nominate the weaker candidate.

Obamites wanted Hillary to get out months ago, they wanted nothing to do with a fair election, they just want to annoint their leader. Hillary broke nothing, Obamites broke it when they started out by playing the race card to get the DNC to go along.

All the "old white men" just can't let a woman be president before a black man has the office. Well...good luck with that. The party is stupid to think that women won't turn their backs on Obama.

An Obama or Hillary presidency would not be a disaster, it would be a savior. I mean, Bush/ Cheney/Rumsfeld had deacades of so called 'experience,' yet their administration was the worst in history. Obama has strong plans and also a brain that will save america from debt and war.

Does anyone remember that Clinton agreed on Live television that Obama could and would win the GE if he were the nominee? Why does she now say that he will lose because he has no support from women or old people? Clinton will do/say whatever it takes to win, and that means throwing her own party under the bus. If she loses the nomination, the only way she could vindicate her reputation is if Obama loses in the general. Yes, that's right, I'm suggesting that Clinton is capable of sabotaging the democratic party to save face.

She may have been a good candidate, I even voted for her in Florida. But, he leads in popular votes, delegates and states. What's the issue? The game is over. She should do her party a favor and stop wasting its time and money. Obama has won the Democratic nomination and God willing, he will be able to beat John "W" McCain. Amen.

Hillary, Please give this country a true choice in November. Run as an independent. Thanks

It ain't over till the fat lady sings.

Well she's singing'

Do all of America a favor, step down with grace and honor while you can, there's nothing more disgusting than a sore loser.

The problem with voters like Susie Reid (the first comment) is that they are supporting Hillary because she is married to Bill and not on her credentials. As a NY resident I found it insulting that she would run for Senate when she has no previous experience. Both then and now people are not voting for her but voting for Bill, who by law has no authority in the presidency.

She should make a classy exit. I hate it when people refer to Obama as elitist. It's just like when people referred to John Kerry as a flip flopper. People just love to assign words and name call. They hardly know what it means anymore.. they just know that it's a name to call someone. If you are going to throw negative words around, at least find your own sense of expression, that hasn't been used over and over again, and prove to people that you actually know what you are talking about instead of regurgitating the words of an embittered politician.

Well, it is easy for those who have not been forced to witness the horrors of Iraq to vote for Clinton.. Feinstein also voted for the war. Perhaps you should query the "younger" women Iraq combat vets and see who they prefer. Not the ones who have no worries about WAR.

I strongly support Hillary.

Obama is a farce. It's not real. It's marketing & promotions. It's the youth who half of probably don't know there is another election to go. It's the whites who feel like they are helping to right the wrong done to blacks by America (and this man doesn't even descend from slaves).

Hillary, though tough and sometimes seemingly slick, is a sharp, committed, inthe game to win it, type of politician. Contrary to what we are told, she and her husband have given their lives to fight for "the people."

I feel sorry for America. When you allow a candidate who speaks well with not enough substance to back it be the Democratic nominee.

I have serious doubts if Obama can beat McCain. And McCain is a poor candidate!

I am not voting to vote - either Obama convinces me that he is worthy, which at this time I doubt can happen, but there's a possibilty, then I vote for him.

If not, I vote for no one.

Barack Obama- sure, he’s intelligent, honest, a magnficent speaker, a man who can bring America together, and the most exciting leader to appear on the American political scene in over 40 years.

But is he out of touch with snorkelers?

As a snorkeler, I’d like to know if Barack Obama thinks he’s better than snorkelers, because how can a man who doesn’t snorkel be a good president?

Oh I'm goin' to vote for Barack with
a ballot on my knee.
'Cause Barack Obama is the best for
us you see.
O---bama, oh don't you quit on me,
I'm goin' to vote for Barack with a ballot on my knee.

I sat in stunned disbelief when people comment on Hilary's expertise as if she had done anything that wasn't tied to her husband's career, much as I was stunned when my fellow New Yorkers actually elected this disingenuous condescending carpetbagger to senate with no qualifications other than her marriage license.

Down with the monarchy!

If Hillary bows out, I will vote for McCain, returning the favor to the Obamaites who said the same thing about Hillary. I reccomend every other Hillary supporter do the same.

McCain in '08!

Hillary's and Bill's expertise:
a failed health plan project, a trip to Bosnia, an Ireland experience where she was said to be a 'wee bit silly' for claiming any credit for the peace and for Bill a list of last minute pardons populated by friends and contributors including 2 WEATHERMEN . The biggest experience they offer is damage control.
Bush on the other hand, brought six years of experience running Texas..that worked out great!
I am white, old and female and I don't want a president considered untrustworthy by over 60% of the voters according to polls (and she did that all on her own) a modern day Gloria Desmond that doesn't know when it's over.

Those urging Hillary to run as an independent are forgetting that in many states, such as Pennsylvania, it is not legally possible for a candidate to switch after the primaries and declare themselves independent. If you run in the Democratic Primary, you cannot appear on the general election ballot as anything other than a Democrat.

Hillary's candidacy is over.

Obama is genuine and real. Hillary is a little girl screaming for the toy that got taken away from her. The Presidency is a team and an idea backing one person, we need a Democratic President so let Obama lead. Hillary needs to support the Democratic fight and stop whining that she lost the toy she wanted.

Experience? Inteligence? are you delusional.... look what Bush did to our national security, respect, integrity and economy. Do you know how many people have been killed because of him, do you know how much we owe? do you know how much more muslims who want to bomb the US? Obama is more inteligent than any of them combined.

Some as desperate to attain power as Hillary seems to be is probably not the best choice to lead the most powerful nation on earth.

C'mon.

Barack gets 95% of the black vote wherever he goes. Hillary and Barack split the white vote. That's a universal truth in these primaries.

Hillary didn't "lose" North Carolina in the conventional sense, she tallied exactly what any white candidate from any quarter could have earned.

Unfortunately, Americans are so paralyzed by their own race-o-phobia, that they can't even acknowledge the mechanics of the elections, much less discuss them.

The real question is, can the black block carry the day in November? If 50% of the white democrats (Hillary supporters) split their votes 50/50 with John, Barack will lose.

This is not to say Hillary would make a good president, it is to say she would make a more formidable general election opponent.

Personally, I don't like any of them.

Rick

As a true Democrat this is all so sad.

HRC is a great person but typified the failure of the Democratic Leadership to recognize the change so needed by the people. She was Old School all the way; rely upon traditional donor bases, rely upon traditional Democratic bases; rely upon local Democratic machines.
She should have won but won't because she messed up; not the good old boys. She did too many things too late to catch back up. Eventually, that's what people will use to judge her ability to be President. She relied too much on old thinking and loyalty.

Also, there is genius to her madness. For Obama to win the presidency, HRC followers have to be given a good reason to switch. She knows this and (hopefully) will finish the primaries without further giving Republicans ammo. She'll eventually lose because she came up short rather than got pushed out.

Hillary couldn't get us out of Iraq. She can't even figure out an exit strategy for her own campain!

It's absoultely amazing how far this has gone? America is not willing to accept an African American as President when the other two candidates are clearly more of the same politics that we have endured for the last eight years. I am disgusted by the bigotry and "ol-boy" backroom bahavior that continues to rear it's very ugly head time and time again.

If Hillary Clinton was a man, this would have been a done deal a long time ago. This country still has a problem with women in power and the the problem is so engrained a lot of women can't see it in themselves.

No one is listening. Obama has done nothing but speak candy. Clinton speaks policy and real solutions.

McCain is trouble waiting to happen.

Good luck Amercia!

Hillary Clinton supporters are the same people who put George W. Bush in the Whitehouse. You were wrong then, and you're wrong now.

You didn't vote for Kerry because he was an ELITIST, you didn't vote for Gore because you thought he was a JOKE. You vote for the CORNIEST, LYING POLITICIANS, & wonder why you're paying 4.00 a gallon for gas.You only have YOURSELVES TO BLAME.

Personally, my income IMPROVED under Bush/Cheney. However, as a PROUD AMERICAN, we've all paid a price for A STUPID ELECTORATE, AND ASININE POLITICAL POLICY.

Hilary. Oh, Hilary. When I sat down and thought about who I would vote for if it came down to either Hilary or Obama against McCain, I could never make up my mind when it came to Hilary. I would never vote for McCain, but at the same time, I don't think I could bring myself to vote for Clinton either. As a young, female voter who believes that one day a woman really should be president, I don't think she could do it. I can't see her really leading this nation anywhere good.

So I say, Go Obama go.
And God help us if McCain wins the election. I think I may leave the country if that were to happen.

you run as an independent and you are a fool. way to go ross perot, split the dem vote. what a bunch of jackasses you all are, just suck i tup and admit that obama is the only choice.

Angry Hillary Supporters- It is time you all grow up and unite as a party. We must not forget that we arent Clintocrats or Obamocrats, but DEMOCRATS. We stand united in our ideology, which is best for the country right now. We cannot let republicans rule our country for another 4 more years and we must not waste our votes out of bitterness from a rigorous primary. Branding Obama as "inexperienced" or "elitist" has yet to work and only serves to further divide our party. So, please grow up, unite and come together to take on John McCain this fall

Doesn't every state involved in this proces get the right to vote? Does someone out there know the results and is keeping it a secret. It's everyone's right to speak for themselves, not have the rest of you speaking for them. Hillary should stay in until the end.

Hillary is a repugnant force in American politics. Her party affiliation is an after thought. Hillary and Bill are political predators who have used the Democratic Party as an instrumentality to inure to their own benefit. The only still beholden to the Clinton Machine are hacks schooled in old politics where you divide up the blue collar, white collar, women and ethnic and minority votes. White people and blue collar white people do not dislike Obama but they are regularly having one of their own party members intentionally trying to drive a racist wedge into this race for one purpose, to elevate the predator, Hillary and not the guy who is truly much more in touch with the working poor and the struggles that they face. The Clintons are not working class heroe's. They are working class predators who manipulate and deceive the intellectually undernourished for their own political gain. Hillary has turned into a vile, shape shifting political fraud. America needs a colonic to cleanse itself of the stench of Clinton politics.

Hillary would burn down the town just so that she could be the mayor. If this primary has shown us anything it's that her naked ambition must be served, and all else is secondary.

She can't effectively run a campaign--how can her deluded die-hard supporters expect her to run a country?!?

"How could you vote for either.
They do not have any experience running anything."

Yep, those U.S. Senators never run anything. hahahaha. We need another W. He knows how to run things. Into the ground.

"The party is stupid to think that women won't turn their backs on Obama."

Then those women can lament the loss of the sons and husbands in Iraq and have no one to blame, but themselves for their short sighted vindictiveness.

Hillary needs to bow out. why should she quit? how 'bout that she is in debt and owes lots of small business people who can't get their bills satisfied? As for those who just want a woman in office, she is the wrong one. If she were able to win and get the office, I am sure that another woman would never have a chance in our lifetime such would be the disdain for her. And as for her experience, what good is experience if your experience is at nothing important. She was first lady, having tea with dignitaries. Obama has more working experience than she does. The only thing she is known for is her push for health care, which she was not successful at. She is not liked and is pushy and people just don't want to work with her; that's why her likability is nil. As for running things, I would say that Obama is running a damn good campaign. And as for experience, people need to understand that most successful business people got there on smarts and will---not experience.

The basic problem with Hillary's ideas is that she has forgotten that the primary season is about whom the voters want, and not about whom the existing political elite want. This points out who the "elitist" really is.

Regardless of who wins the nomination as Americans and voters we should work hard to support whoever our candidate is. I don't understand why or how this party is so divided when we have two Dem's who basically have the same views and solutions. I know one thing for sure McCain thinks this country has prospered over the last few years and thinks this country can resolve the war in Iraq. Honestly do we want to put our pride before addressing the real problems??? Americans its time to grow up and face our problems if not us who then will do what we are either too distracted or too divided to do?? This War has to end and we can't wait for tomorrow for the economy to work itself out. The time is now!!!!!!!!!!

Shirley- Actually women would be stupid not to vote for Obama. If you want 4 more years of bush then vote for McCain. I understand the country was divided on who they prefer and it hurts when your choice didnt win, but when it comes to Obama and Clinton policies being almost exactly the same then how could any hillary supporter vote GOP??? It doesnt make sense, unless the only reason you support Hillary is b/c shes a woman and you dont care about the issues. There is so much at stake this election!! Its time to unite, if you support Hillary then you must support her dedication the the Dem party and vote Dem!! Obama will only be the weaker candidate if you decide to make it that way and switch over out of foolish pride. McCain has his skeletons, they just havent been front page news yet.. they will be soon and he will be the weaker candidate

I think to her, it's like she told the female indy car winner. "...making history is what it's all about..."

No, it's not. It's about running the country. It's about the country being tired of liars stealing from us. And she looks just like another one. I like Obama's message of truth.

Which makes me wonder, "Why don't we put our polititians under oath instead of our baseball players? Far more is at stake!"

Hillary and McCain both represent the status quo in this election. Although Obama has been knocked for lack of experience the other candidates don't have any additional experience that would more qualify them to act in an executive position. Clinton and McCain have never held a governors position or run a business and are no more qualified to lead than Obama. Obama is the clear choice for a candidate that can represent an actual possibility for change from the "Good 'ole boy" system we currently have.

Hilary is a monster. All you americans seem to forget Bill Clinton lying on the stand, and saying that personal integrity has nothing to do with working at the white house! McCain thinks Bush is a hero and wants to keep the war going on indefinetly. Obama is the only one who has operated in integrity and has a flawless trackrecord in his political history.

Look, if Hillary's comments about the gas tax holiday can't sway you to realize how much of an idiot she is, then what will? Practically every economist says her plan is foolish. But she is sticking to her guns, because she is just like Bush - blinded by pride and righteousness to the end.

And her logic is completely false, saying that Obama doesn't have the support of women, older folk, hispanics, etc. Or that he can't bring in the big states like New York or California. Yes, he didn't win those votes in the primary, Sillary, but what makes you think he'll lose them against John McCain? Stupid and fraudulent to the end.

It's the same old boring media news if she stayed on fighting. We need Hollywood to produce more movies to watch instead of watching this same old face on TV.

Well, those of you who want Hillary to run as an independent better open some checkbooks!

Your girl is sitting at NEGATIVE $20 million at the moment and thinking of borrowing more. Some war chest!

With friends like that who needs enemies? I doubt the nay sayers are an kind of friend to Hillary. Rather politicos hoping to hold tight to their jobs.
With all the backroom talk, why aren't reporters seeking out the real story which is: Who is being offered what deal for their delegate vote?
Stay true to Hillary and keep reading between the headlines.
Denise from Philly

Bush on the other hand, brought six years of experience running Texas..that worked out great!

hey Ellen are you serious?? Um, Bush is the worst president in the history of our great country and has approval ratings lower than Nixon at the time of watergate so tell me whats so great about that?

The only experience Bush had ( The pro life guy that he is) was executing the most people in Texas' history!

You pro Bush people are so blind to reality its frightening to think what another 4 years of repulican control could do to our country and the rest of the world!

I don't understand the feminist support for HRC. What message does her campaign send to little girls... "If you marry the right man you can become president"?

My girlfriend said something profound the other day, "As long as I have been aware that there is a president it's been a Bush or a Clinton." Wow, do we live in a democracy?

My guess is that those that are threatening to desert the democratic party were never reliable democrats. Between the Republicans who like sheep followed Limbaugh's command to vote for Clinton (he is taking credit for her win in Indiana, by the way) and the Clintonites who will desert the party because voters did not give their candidate the nomination, maybe with what is left we can build a true Democrat party that puts its tenets and its basic philosophy above the pettiness of personal whims.

We've had enough of Billary, especially in NY. They picked a liberal state like NY where she could beat a cancer ridden Rudy Giuliani. I would vote for McCain before I would vote for Billary. And we all know he is just more of the same.

I AM SO SICK OF THE MORONIC COMMENTS THAT HILLARY SHOULD LEAVE FOR THE GOOD OF THE PARTY. IF ANY OF YOU WHO MAKE SUCH COMMENTS HAS PAID ONE BIT OF ATTENTION TO THE FACTS, HER LEAVING IS THE ABSOLUTE WORSE THING SHE COULD DO FOR THIS PARTY! OBAMA CAN NOT AND WILL NOT EVER BEAT MCCAIN!!!!!! SHE IS OUR ONLY HOPE OF THAT!!! SIMPLEMINDED AMERICANS! DO YOU NOT SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING? OBAMA IS DIVIDING THE PARTY. OBAMA IS ENSURING ANOTHER REPUBLICAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE! OBAMA IS ENSURING THAT WE HAVE MCCAIN'S 100 YRS OF WAR! THE REPUBLICAN PARTY KNOWS THIS! THAT'S WHY THEY ARE SUPPORTING HIM! BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEY CAN ACTUALLY BEAT HIM! I THINK SOME OF YOU EITHER DON'T HAVE A CLUE OR ARE JUST TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND! OR U ARE JUST NAIVE ENOUGH TO FALL FOR OBAMA'S FANTASY OF UTOPIA! IT'S JUST VERY VERY SAD!

Hillary like Mccain is beating on the war drums for Iran..
Have any of the pro Hillary posters been to combat? I kind of doubt it...Wait..Hillary saw action in Bosnia..What a lark!

Re: Sunny Florida: " If the "boys club" in Washington can't take your strength, poise, intelligence and perseverance and the DNC chooses instead to nominate an inexperienced, slick, elitist politician, then PLEASE run as an Independent."

How easy it is to blame sexist politicians. This, my dear, was the will of the electorate, no matter how much you don't like it.

to all of the hillary supporters who are saying they will vote for McCain if she loses the nomination,

there is a long time between now and the general election, and i believe you're being immature and bitter. you'll come around.

also i think this thread is missing the fact that the millions of youth voters who are turning out for Obama are much more likely to not vote in a Clinton-McCain election than any of the "disenfranchised" Hillary supporters.

and Hillary running as an independant would Ralph Nader all over again.

The American public better wake up and smell the coffee. I am tired of hearing the press refer to Hilary's age. What difference does it make? Why aren't they talking about the age of Obama? Hilary can make changes and we need someone who will make a difference. It is so unfortunate that gender has to be a issue here. Women are leaders in other countries..what is the big deal here in America? This country is suffering. Don't we all want a postive change? Hilary can do IT.

Hillary can't win. By all practical means she cannot gain the numbers. Therefore, if she stays in the race it is only for personal gain not the good of the country or the Democratic party as she claims. Any statement by her to the contrary is a delusion at best. We've had enough of a delusional presidency already.

If Hillary will not act responsibly then the super delegates need to. If they do not act now to make it clear they back the popular vote in favor of Obama then they are seriously hurting the chances for the Democrats to win in the fall.

We need sound leadership in the Democratic party and we need it today. Super delegates: step up to your responsibility as leaders of the party and lead us!

If not then you are seriously jeopardizing a chance for change in the fall. You will disillusion another generation of newly registered democratic voters. You will drive away the independent voters we need to win in the fall.

Why? Well the bottom line is to heal the division in the Party and fight the good fight against McCain. The Party needs to be unified to accomplish that. Hilary had a good run but it's over. How long are we going to prolong this? Let's move on to the next round. We've endured 2 terms of Bush and 5 years of Iraq. I think we're all entitled to a new deal. I for one think we can get that New Deal from Obama.

Hillary keeps hinting at an October surprise that will somehow destroy Senator Obama's candidacy which is her rationale for staying in the race

If she considered herself a true patriot and had such information wouldn't the right thing to do be sitting down in a closed door session with senior democrats, sharing her information and letting these senior democrats meet with Senator Obama.

The fact is, as Spike Lee says in his commercial "you got nothing!" The only thing she is has is innuendos, suggestions and whispers all aimed at planting a seed of doubt in the minds of the American people.

It is a disgraceful tactic and one which is not becoming to any decent individual, oh but I forgot we are talking about Hillary.

Perhaps her best exit strategy would be to paraphrase Sally Field's academy award speech, "You DON'T like me, you really DON'T like me!"

Obama is neither slick, elitist, nor inexerienced. To call him slick is meaningless. To call the son of a single mother, whose grandmother raised him, 'elitist' is absurd, and when contrasted with silver spooned Clinton is ridiculous. To call him inexperienced is slander when he spent the past 23 years as a lawmaker, grass roots organizer, and activist. Clinton is a closet republican anyway...

If not, I vote for no one.

That's the spirit! Maybe McBush will win and his words will be a song to your ears.....War or All women have to do to earn the same pay as a man in the same job is get more education and training.

no obama does not have experience, but hilary only has experience in what the american people are tired of. and nothing can be any worse than georgee. it is so sad, that the people are still buying in to nothing. poor people and that includes you "the once middle class" stop. hilary has money, and trust me she is gonna continue to protect those with money. i think this has been the saddest display of democrats. childish games, u know let's get on with it. Obama is just what we need. he has not sold hisself. and experience doesn't matter, our history just shows who ever the biggest supporter (financial of course) they are the president. it's oil now. those people who are blindsided by bush's whatever he is the reason for the war and terrorist are only responding to his arrogance feel. and can u explain why gas prices are going up, when supposedly there is a shortage and how millions of dollars were made by our president and vice president. come on people, don't let your ignorance destroy you.

Please, please American people remember what is at stake. It is the future of our nation, its relations with others, the gas price, and our jobs. It is all that but a distraction about a pastor who spoke for himself or any other joke some people are trying to bring up. Step up and save our country. Support whoever the nominee will be the nominee for the Democratic Party. I know American people are intelligent enough to stick to what really matters now. Don’t we need freshness and renewal in Washington politics? The clock will be ticking soon.

I love how Obama is the elitist but Hillary grew up in.....Park Ridge.

Hillary is just being pathetic at this point. She's devious and massively underqualified to be president, and claiming that she'll have bill's experience to back her up is no great feat either. We're in the middle of a war, with a few others becoming inevitable fast; we need a diplomat who can do what he must if the time comes, and that's Obama.

Hillary does nothing more than lie, manipulate and continue to break her party, proving that she's using the Democratic party as nothing more than an engine to get into office with, and that's downright pathetic.

Sincerely,
C. Price,
Captain, USAF

Amen!

Hillary couldn't get us out of Iraq. She can't even figure out an exit strategy for her own campain!
Posted by: Leif the Lucky | May 8, 2008 11:19 AM

Amen again! Sometimes the fewest words says it all.

Clinton has now for the second time (that we know of) had to loan her campain money. She cannot control the finances of her campaign - what makes her or her supporters believe she'll be able to balance the budget or relieve the National Debt?

To date, Obama has shown strength of character, faith in this Country and it's citizens, and an Integrity above and beyond that of both Clinton and McCain.

You have to wonder if Senator Clinton's strategy is looking toward 2012. Create so many doubts about Senator Obama that he wins the nomination but loses the election -- so that Senator Clinton can run again in 2012 against a 76-year old President McCain.

How tragic for the Deomcratic Party, the country and the world if that were true. Neither the country nor the world can afford a third George W. Bush term. We desparately need a clean break from the worst presidency in American history. Senator Clinton might have provided that break, but a clear majority of Democrats -- as well as millions of independents and even republicans -- have expressed a clear conviction that Senator Obama is better equipped for the extremely difficult job of reunitng the country and restoring America's global image as the great shining light on the hill.

Time to recognize these facts and for Senator Clinton to gracefully withdraw in favor of a united Democratic party and an Obama victory in November.

I was a huge supporter of HRC until seeing the disaster of her campaign - Mark Penn, running out of money, wasted money, myopic. "Ready on day one? " Ready for managing the country when she can't even manage a campaign. ??? You gotta be kidding me.

WHY CLINTON SHOULD REMAIN IN THE RACE: As us non-elitists say, it ain’t over ‘til the fat lady sings, or in other words, one should not count one’s chickens until they hatch. A lot can happen as the campaigns progress and more of Obama's true character, history, etc., surfaces.

uhh...i'm pretty sure the part about Obama not picking up any superdelegates isn't true. Didn't he get four more on Wednesday?

She has plenty of money, she has the voters in her corner. She has every right to keep going. Her people will not vote for Obama in the general election, therefore, Obama will lose in the general election, or else we will all pay for the next four years and then all the stupid people voting for him will vote for him again in 2012, just like the stupid people that voted Bush in for two terms. Those are probably the same type of people that don't learn the first time around they just keep making the same mistake. Watch the swagger, watch the cunning smile on Bush and then closely watch Obama. Same demeanor. You all are in for it if he gets in. I would rather vote for McCain depending on who he has for his VP, especially the way the DNC has screwed up this primary campaign. If they ran it the way the Repubs. winner take all, Hillary would be so far ahead in the deligates (check this out), Obama would be using binoculars to see her. A good percentage of the rest of Hillary's backers will not be voting for Obama.

She should be allowed to exit the race when she wants to. I distrust and actually dislike Ms. Clinton because I think she will say and do anything to achieve power, but, like her or hate her, you have to admire her for her spirit, her fortitude, her drive and her tenacity. This has been one of the most unusual and, for the candidates, grueling of primary campaigns. She stood toe-to-toe with Obama, but what has "86-ed" her was who she is and what she stands for: old, cynical, dirty politics that don't play honest with the American people. Between her, McCain and Bush, there wouldn't have been much choice. The American people in their (belated) wisdom want real change. In fact, it's what the country needs.

Scott! Scott! my comment on Bush was intended to be sarcastic....you know when you use a hammer to open a jar and you break it and you say...."that worked out great.!" I totally agree with you.

Operation Chaos continues!

Hillary needs to check her ego at the door and give up on the dream of being president. If you are choosing to vote for McCain over Obama well that is just crazy. If McCain is elected we can expect more hard times to come and serious consequences. McCain’s administrative tactics will mirror the Bush administration, not sure if America can take another four years of that type of diplomacy.

Vote for Obama!

Shirley, why do you have to make the argument that it was sexism that decided this process? Why can't it be that Obama is simply a better choice than Hillary? What kind of logic would make you vote against Obama in the GE, other than spite?

If the Clintons have any class about them at all, they will soon begin to campaign in support of Obama for the GE, and hopefully all of the angry women will join in the support.

I do not think some people understand the terms that they are posting. Playing the race card means that you have to actually BRING UP the race issue. I defy anyone insinuating Obama is playing the race card to mention to me when he has come out and said this is only happening because I am half black? You can not because it never happened. On the other hand the Clinton fanatics seem to forget that Hilary herself insinuated the country did not know what to do with a female candidate or how to ask her questions. SHE HAS PLAYED THE WOMAN, RACE, and FEAR card throughout this race. How can you Clinton fans not see that . I hope she does not waste the election for the Democrats although I doubt she would care if she did.

What people need to realize is a president will only be as effective as the people he/or she surrounds themselves with while in office. This is where Bush failed miserablely. For my money I would like to have a well educated, thoughtful, patient person who will owe nothing to the Washington bottom feeders and think of Americans first and what is best for us for a change. Experience means nothing in the White House. Surrounding you with the best of the best with our interests in mind does. Obama has my vote.

Obama has become Hilary's "fly in the ointment" she never expected any opposition to her candidacy..which explains her running out of funds. She actually never imagined needing funds to get the Democratic Nomination. Her thoughts "who is this guy.."

More importantly, if she doesn't have the sense to see when she's defeated, and to do what's good for the party, then that casts a shadow on her judgment in general. She's behaving in a very irrational manner. Would we want such a president?

Posted by: Alan | May 8, 2008 11:06 AM

Excellent argument! And scarily reminds me a bit of our current President and his inability to do the right thing for our country. Definitely not a trait we want in our next President.

I hear on the news that single, white, educated, older females all vote for Clinton. I am also a registered Republican. She is the LAST female that we need in the White House. I am voting for Obama! Put that in your polls. I can only pray that the power hungry Hillary doesn't make it past August.

Hillary appears to have reverted to acting like the spoiled little rich girl that she once was by not bowing out.(no, despite her rhetoric, she never was blue collar!)

She apparently got everything she wanted in life until now and cannot accept the fact that she likely will not receive the nomination.

She is spending millions of her own to prop up her campaign in what seems to be an attempt to keep her fading dream alive.

It will be interesting to see her reaction when her lofty perception of herself eventually collides with reality.

AMANDA

I didn't say I'd vote for McCain. I couldn't hold my breath long enough. I'm aware of how scary McCain is. But I don't like it that we've been forced, again, to nominate the weaker candidate. I believe Hillary would be the best candidate against McCain and I believe the better president. I love how everyone has swallowed the "dynasty" line that come out of the Republican party. LOL...of course they'd say that..they didn't have another Bush running and they were terrified by Clinton. Hillary has her own education and background in politics. It's really insulting to read remarks by some who think it's only because of her husband. They'd never vote for a woman.

To all Clinton supporters who will refuse to vote for Obama, I say, "Do you want McCain to fill the next Supreme Court vacancies that will almost certainly occur in the next four years?" It's over, face reality, vote Democrat!

As "Sunny Florida" posted at 10:54am... Hillary, please just run as an Independent. Some of your closest allies in the party have turned their backs on you, so why show loyalty to them either. Keep running in the primary, but do so knowing that McCain can have the right, Obama can have the left, any you will take the middle. I like the odds!

People are simply encouraging Hillary to stay in the race to make a fool out of her. She has run a good race but the people are not looking to put her in office this time. I personally feel she should have run for president against Bush or something. She would have swept the vote I am sure.

Obama is a more compelling candidate than her right now. For people to say that Obama will do a disservice to this country is silly. Obama looks, walks, and talks like a President. And that is not to say because he is Male, or for that matter Black. He just has the votes to prove it. The Clintons are not entitled to the White house. For them to act like they can't ever loose anything is absurd. I enjoyed this country when Bill was in office. As well I am sure others agree, but don't be arrogant about not being elected Hillary. She needs to send her bratty and pouting supporters Obama's way. If they choose not to vote in November they will be making a big mistake by putting Mccain in office.

With that said I am sure Obama will make a great President with his own advisors/cabinet etc.

If barack obama is the nominee,we can rest assured that John Mccain will be president. Go Hillary!!

Shirley's comments are really worrisome to me. The latest polls show that roughly half of all Clinton supporters would not vote for Obama in a general election. This is pure idiocy to me. Shirley, and others like her need to look beyond race, look beyond sex, age and even look beyond personal tastes in candidates. Instead, we should all look at the greater good. If you (Shirley and other Clinton supporters) had to choose between Obama and McCain, you actually think McCain is the better choice? I'm totally blown away that someone could be a Clinton supporter and still be prepared to vote for McCain when the two of them have such hugely seperate beliefs and values. Whereas Clinton and Obama are really quite similar. Would you (Shirley) vote for McCain over Obama out of childish spite? Are democrats really that moronic? Personally, I'm an independent and I think political parties should have been made unconstitutional (as Jefferson and Washington both advocated). But alas, we're stuck with this absurd electoral system....ah heck, wrong place for this rant. Anyways: Dems need to pull their heads out of their &^%$# and do what is best for the country. And that means backing whomever runs against McCain and four more years of ineptitude. Remove sex, race and non-policy oriented criteria out of the mix; they don't belong.

Let Hillary stay in it to the end if she likes. But she should do it without the attacks. She should campaign on policy alone from this point forward.

The odds are so long at this point that she needs to remember Obama is a democrat, and the likely nominee.

This has been as exhausting a campaign for the American people as it has for the candidates. Having followed the campaign closely and listening the each word the candidates utter, I have gotten to the point where I have to use a 'Ben Franklin' on each to see if there are more positive message(s) from either condidate. A 'Ben Franklin" for those of you that have never heard of it, is a system that is believed to have been used by Benjamin Franklin in helping him to make decisions on important issues. He would list in two columns the positive and negative points regarding the subject at hand. When he finished, he would add up each column and the column with the most points for or against, would be the way he would decide. We all could learn a lot about our candidates if we just took the time out to compare these two people. It worked for me and it could work for everyone. After all, this is an issue of national importance to all democrats voting in this race. We have got to stop addressing this purely on possible background, experience, charisma, color, sex, etc. This is not a contest like 'American Idol' where you get to pick the person you like the most, this is the highest office in the land - the presidency. Also, we are democrats first and pundants second. So we must think and act about whether or not we want a republican in office in '09 or a democrat. NOT WHETHER WE WANT AN AFRICAN AMERICAN OR WOMAN FOR PRESIDENT. Stop people and think of what is going on here. America is supposed to be the leader in democracy in the world. Let's show the world that we are by not showing the world that we still have issues when it comes to 'race' or 'sex'.

That's my take on this whole thing.

You will note that I have NOT indicated my choice in candidates. The reason being, is that as a young man, I was taught that voting is a personal choice and as such should be kept that wayf. If you all would have done the same, this campaign would have played out much smoother and we all could get back to our lives and let this country get back on it's feet. Try it.

Get out Hillary. I don't trust you remember White Water and a cheating husband that you stayed with for shame.

For Hillary to run as an independent would be simply spiteful and egotistical, and would amount to a disservice to this country worse than that pimple Nader. (All ego: he could have thrown support to Gore and actually got some things done. Instead, ego prevailed.)

As it is, Hillary has said that she will support the Democratic candidate. On the other hand, for her not to - to go back on what she said - would be no surprise.

The electoral process is already broken. Hillary is natural product of a process where the electorate discovers they can vote themselves a free lunch. Hillary got elected in NY by promising free lunches that have yet to be delivered. Lazio lacked the charisma to counter her blatant pandering in NY. Obama has that charisma and her tried and proven tactics are failing. The result is self-evident.

Hillary, dear... it is time to go home now. You dont play well with others, you whine when you dont get your way and you are MEAN to other kids that dont agree with you.

The fibs you tell about your experience rival Harry Potter... and breakfast at International House of Pancakes does not constitute world diplomacy. Sniper fire? Loving wife? Ireland Peace Accord? NY Senatorial success?

Sweetie, you MIS-SPEAK with every breath.

Now, fellow Democrats, do we really want another stupid, Good-Ole-Boy, LIAR in the White House? Is a Woman Liar better?

This is NOT the time for grudges in our party. Hillary, you blew it and WE know it. I am sorry tht you "hustled" so many to your queen-quest but it is now time for a higher quest: INTEGRITY... what a concept.

Hill, you voted for NAFTA, the War, taxes and against medical programs so now we have $Billion$ being spent for King-George' oil-grab and $4+ for gasolone. Sweetie, you VOTED for everyting he wanted ! Now, WHY should we elect you again? Even Rush likes you - THAT should be your que to go home and learn how to tell the truth.

Andrew, I'm in total agreement with you about political parties. Sometimes I think that both parties are controlled by the same powerful groups, and they play us for suckers. The way the press has gone after Obama over trivial, irrelevant stuff makes me wonder if they are not doing their masters bidding, with the intention to elect their good ol boy, McCain. They wrap him in the flag and hardly discuss his vast negatives.

In listening to Obama, I think we have a candidate who can truly bring us together. He's also one who would be well received by most of the rest of the world. He could be a stark break from the Bush years and perhaps win back the respect that we've lost.

To vote for McCain out of spite seems really counterproductive because you're right, he would do everything in his power to pack the SCOTUS with right wingers who would be opposed to most of the policies that most women want. Just look at his record & what he says.

Personally, wanting Hillary out of the race for President doesn't strike me as sexist any more than wanting Obama out would strike me as racist. The fact is the American public is tired of Washington insiders choosing the future of this country as though it were their personal property . And there's arguably few people more "inside" than the Clintons. After eight years of business-as-usual Bush, many of us are willing to gamble on the possibility of a new attitude toward the role of governance over experience. Hillary's just in the right place at the wrong time.

Hey Pat Whitewater was about $200,000 DO YOU remember the republicans and the Savings and Loan disaster???? We're taking MILLIONS here!! And what about
The LIES about Iraq???

And as far as Hillary staying with her "Cheating" husband, that is a personal matter and none of your business. Perhaps she doesnt believe in divorce? Did that ever occur to you?

I'm sick of people thinking personal matrimonial matters are their business. Mind your own business and keep your morals to yourselves.

It seems you prefer a president who lied about war that has caused millions of deaths than a president who had sex in the white house. Oh my how original that must be NOT!!

Hillary shouldn't leave. If the democrats knew how to run a primary - she'd already have won. If they can't even run a primary, how can they expect to run the country? Hillary just needs to point out that the votes Obama won in early primaries can't be any indication of how he'd fare now. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there regretting voting for him in the first place and now that they know more about his lack of character and judgement, I doubt he'd do as well. The delegates may be able to block all his faults - but the American public will not and will hold him accountable.

I actually only read these boards to see how stupid people really are. If you consider yourself a Democrat...vote DEMOCRAT!

"Hillary, if that's really your name, will you leave gracefully, or in a strait jacket?
There is lipstick on your teeth.
Your impermeable helmet of hair is cracked
The snipers have gone on vacation
Don't make us watch this ugly spectacle any longer.
Go back to "fighting" for New York."

The only "ugly" person is YOU!
Misogyny, they name is DAVE. Hill has done fantastic considering many Americans are too biased against women to give her a fair shake. So, leave out the personal comments, Dave, and heal YOURSELF.

What the heck does the democrats "not knowing how to run a primary" (if that's even the case) have to do with the reason Hillary should stay?

So what about the people who are donating money to her campaign now if she is just staying in so she can have a graceful exit? Shame on you Hillary for just thinking about yourself. If you are going to get out say it now so people don't waste their hard earned money on a campaign that doesn't exist.

Move on .org islargely responsible for Hillary's defeats . I suggest that the next President can change some of the election rules . That outfits like moveon.org can not manipulate voting. He also needs to do away with carcusses. Be proud to be American give Hillary credit she ran against a stacked deck. I hope the peole we'll be happy with what they have done . Barack Obama Is not what we need right now.

Terry said, "Barack Obama is not what we need right now." Really?
Been to Iraq? Now, Hillary beats on the war drums to go into Iran.
The logic Hillary supporters use is flawed at best.

It is such a disgrace to see people use threats to hurt others. Why would someone threaten to vote for the opposition if their candidate isn't nominated for the candidacy of their party?

Here we are, a democratic society, with all these freedoms, but the one most valuable to us is abused.

I finally have an answer to a question that has plagued me for years - 'Why does the world look down at us now, instead of seeing us as the Greatest nation on earth'. One in which people left countries which oppressed them for one where they could truely feel free.

Alas, this no longer exists. What a shame.

Don't any of these people threatening to jump ship realize the damage they are doing to the political system that we have in the U.S.? Are they lacking in the history of this country and the lives that were sacrificed to give us this great nation?

These kind of people bring shame on us all, and have no sense of 'integrity'.

I am a Viet Nam veteran and I have had to live with a disability of that war. A war that I participated in on behalf of these 'shameless' people, as well as the 'honorable' ones. This truely makes me sick. To think that this campaign has turned into an 'American Idol'. For all those less than deserving individuals, dial the following number for your vote - 532-832-6374*22 (Lea-veA-meri*ca).

Two white guys in a dead heat for the nomination and NO ONE would be telling either to drop out. But because its a woman, its fair game.

If the Bulls during the Jordan era had stopped playing when they were behind with 5 minutes left on the clock, the team would not have every been the Champions because most of their games were won at the very end, even in overtime.

So lets let our political party system process work to the end and let EVERY STATE have its say because it is to close to call.

Any one who has REAL POLITICAL EXPERIENCE and not just time as a pundit knows that the right thing to do is all of the primaries with the two candidates who are locked in a very close competition.

My gratitude goes out to Hillary for helping put health care high on the agenda, for showing solid hardball skills, and for exhibiting passion and courage. She's shown a ferocity, too, one that we could use as we unite behind another candidate who also shows some unique capabilities.

The uncommitted superdelegates are being spineless wimps. They know it's over, they know by the time of the convention they'll be supporting Obama, but because they have constituents on both sides they'd rather not take a public stand. They're just waiting for Hillary to drop out so they won't be blamed by her supporters for pulling the rug out from under her. But in so doing, they're enabling her continued delusional quest for the nomination, and consequently damaging the party. It's time for these so-called party "leaders" to stand up and show some leadership. We know the outcome. The least painful way to get there is for a steady stream of superdelegates to come out for Obama, signaling to Hillary that she has no chance to pull off the miracle superdelegate rescue she's been counting on for months now.

I'm sick of her. She makes me sick. Can't stand Clinton, Inc.

But by all means, stay in the race.

Experience? How much experience did our 16th president have?

Answer: one term as a congressman. He couldn't even make it into the Senate.

Experience is important, but HOW important is quite relative.

(16 was Lincoln, for you non political history folks)

I loaned the Hillary Clinton campaign $6 million dolloars. Who will pay back the money to me??

MACK - To a point I agree with you. However, I think that the race 'numerically' is over. Looking strictly at the numbers and not who the candidate is, shows that one of them has virtually won. Even if the other were to win every race (including FL and MI) it wouldn't change anything. Don't take my word for it, check it out yourself.

And how exactly is hillary ruining the election process by staying in the race? I mean seriously, what about people who WANT her to be president? We should just give up at this point and go for a less experienced candidate or a war monger who wants us in iraq for 100 years? Please... if anything, hopefully Hillary will prove that by staying in the race until the end that she CAN get the nomination. For her to get out at this point is just stuipid.

Susie Reid - the fact that you want Bill's expertise shows you are NOT voting for Hillary but for Bill. Bill, is not going to be the president again. Bill is not a magician. He can't come in, snap his fingers, and wipe out eight years of Bush. Our country enjoyed prosperity under Clinton because he relaxed banking regulations to allow venture capitalist money to flow, and flow and flow which, in conjunction with Bush's war and horrible economic policy, led us to the current dismal situation.

Oh and let's not forget the job drain BEGAN because of Clinton (NAFTA ring a bell?).

No - I don't want his expertise, nor hers, as she always points to his.

And Shirley Stewart, if you want to speak for yourself, great but don't ever deign to represent all women because you most certainly do not represent me. I think Hillary Clinton would be a disaster in that office and always have. She is brash, arrogant, chooses the politically expedient over the politically unpopular and has proven time and again that she will not compromise or play well with others.

This insistence on staying in a race she has lost serves to magnify everything she will not be as a president, and what she will not be is exactly what we need the next president to be.

Grow up. Be informed. Show some intelligence and independent thought.

You're voting for her because she's a woman, not because she's the right woman.

Do baseball teams quit in the 8th inning if they are behind? She should stay in at least until the next primary.

It has been obvious for a while that the Clintons can't win the nomination, but it looks like they may prevent a Democrat from being elected this year. If blue collar white men are the key then it will be McCain in November.

CC, that is an interesting perspective you presented. The democrats can't allow Clinton's exit to be too messy or women voters and white working class voters could take an opinion like Sunny Florida's which I interpret springing from anger and alienation. I can understand Sunny Florida's position because I would not have voted for Clinton if she had won the nomination. The sun has set on the Clinton era, let's us no longer debate who has the better the chance to win the presidential nomination but cross the river and see!

The super-delegates might be waiting in the futile hope that she'll find a classy way to exit, and they won't have to dump her, and be accused of being sexist.

Absolutely. Class act all the way. Time to heal and seal the presidency.

Hey Hillary supporters, if you type in ALL CAPS DOES IT SEEM LIKE YOU'RE YELLING YOUR POINT?

Doesn't matter either way. She's toast.

I am troubled by comments that Hillary and Barack do not have much experience. Our current administration, and especially our V.P., has as much experience as anyone and look where that's gotten us!

"When people are least sure, they are often most dogmatic."
John Kenneth Galbraith

Everything old is new again!

Give Obama a chance. Take a critical look at his position and plan. Access his website and do so for all the candidates. Put aside your personal beliefs. Form a judgment based on something other than what "others" say.

The world is laughing at us, in disbelief I think.

Jeremy - John McCain and his support team is preparing for the November battle. If we could get either of these candidates nominated sooner than later it would help them in preparing in November as well. It is known that McCain is going to pull out all the strings in his attempt for the presidency. So, it just seems smart to bring the democratic party together and get to work now. If Hillary wants to stick in until then end, that is ok. The same holds true for Obama. But hopefully, both would look at the numbers and if they favor either - then I say go for it. If however, they don't, one would pull out now for the sake of the party. Remember, we are voting as democrats for a democratic candidate. Differences shouldn't occur within a party, but rather between the parties.

come on people! this is the democracy at work! as long as she still has a chance no matter how slim, I would say go for it! most comments here are very narrow-minded and just talking about their perspective. you vote who you want. period. end of discussion.

We should never be basing our decision on the experience of the spouse of a candidate, that would set a bad precedence. A candidate either has the experience to run the country or does not. I would feel really uneasy about this country being run by both Clintons. It is tantamount(sp?) to having two presidents in office. Think of how hard it is sometimes for a husband and wife to agree on major issues in just day to day life and you will understand what a disaster it would be. If elected, I would hope that this would not occur in the Hillary White House.

I am a 61 year old white IL female vet who is voting for Senator Obama. I hate to read that Sen. Obama does not have the vote of the white female or the elderly. Duh...I qualify as both. Another thing upsets me. If you are a Democrat, it is because you believe in the stand of the Democratic party. So why are you saying you will vote for McCain if Obama is running against him? Have we not had enough of the Republican party in office and see what it has done to us? We need a Democrat in office to get us out of the fix we are in now. If Sen. Obama had lost in the primaries, as much as I do not like Sen. Clinton, if she was the Democratic nominee I would still vote for her as we need a Democratic President. Go Democrats and yes, Go Obama. God bless the USA

If Hillary Clinton drops out of the race, then millions that have not yet voted will be denied their right to speak. If we are truly still a democracy in this country, and that has not just become a smokescreen, the the voters of Michigan and Florida must have their choice heard by seating their delegates.

If Hillary Clinton drops out of this race, the Democratic Party will, in effect, be making a present of the presidency to Senator McCain and the Republicans for a "third Bush term." It is impossible for Senator Obama to win this election because he cannot even carry the white, working class base of the Democratic Party. Without the support of the Democratic working class base, Senator Obama will go down to one of the worst defeats in political history.

For all intents and purposes, this race is done. Yes, a miracle can happen, and then HRC could somehow, SOMEHOW, get the nod, but where would that leave the democratic party? Everything is pointing in Obama's direction, so if suddenly he lost because of a superdelegate snafu, do you have ANY idea of the repercussions? We'd be handing the presidency to McCain on a platinum platter. From reading the comments on this board, it looks like we already have. This has gone on WAY too long. And her not doing what most consider "the right thing" is just making it worse. To her, I say do not ask for whom the bell tolls. Yes, her bowing out now would be good for the party, sorry to say that to the HRC supporters. But then I'm not sorry, because that's all you support. Her. Not the party, not ridding us of Republican rule, but HER. People, it's not going to happen. And those of you who thinks she can beat McCain ... you're very mistaken. I'm support Obama, but at this point I don't even think HE can beat him. Why? Because of people who write comments like "I'll vote Republican" or "I won't vote at all". Are you kidding me? That's beyond juvenile, beyond irresponsible. And you deserve her, because all she's showing currently is that she shares the same values. The Democratic party has already loss. And we have no one but ourselves to blame ...

I'm just waiting for her to shave her head and start swinging an umbrella around. She has sunk that low.
And yes, I am a white, middle-aged, working-class female who voted for Obama.

It would be interesting to see how many people posting on here would vote for Bill Clinton if he were running instead of Hillary. Go ahead and post if you dare.

Losing because of Moveon is not an excuse. Moveon is people getting involved for CHANGE. Hillary is not change. Rush is part of the reason Hillary is still in it. Is that fare?

ANNOUNCEMENT: Sen. Obama Wins Indiana Primary by 27,000 Votes
By Eric L. Prentis, Ph.D.

Rush Limbaugh, the well known Republican, attack-media stooge, launched “Operation Chaos” to tilt Democratic primary races to Sen. Clinton by getting Republicans to fraudulently vote for Hilary Clinton. Without Limbaugh’s illegal plot, Sen. Obama would have easily won the Indiana primary by approximately 27,000 votes which is proved mathematically as follows. (Quotes are referenced from the article, “Did Rush Limbaugh Tilt Result In Indiana?” by Alec MacGillis and Peter Slevin, published in the Washington Post, May 08, 2008)

Election results are from the CNN Election Center as of 5/8/08: 1,274,993 votes are cast in the Indiana Democratic primary and Sen. Clinton is announced the winner by only 14,195 votes.

“In Indiana, 10 percent of Democratic primary voters describe themselves as Republicans and go for Clinton by eight percentage points, according to exit polls.”

Ten percent of the total votes cast in the Indiana Democratic primary are by Republicans crossing over for a total of 127,499 Republican votes cast (10 percent x 1,274,993). Republicans give an eight percent edge to Sen. Clinton, i.e., voting 54 percent for Sen. Clinton and 46 percent for Sen. Obama. Total Republican votes for Sen. Clinton in the Indiana Democratic primary are 68,849 votes (54 percent x 127,499).

“In Indiana, six in 10 Republicans who supported Clinton on Tuesday said they would vote for presumptive GOP nominee John McCain over Clinton in the fall.”

Sixty percent of the Republicans who voted for Sen. Clinton corrupted the Democratic primary process as directed by Rush Limbaugh’s illegal vote tampering scheme. Consequently, 41,309 votes going to Sen. Clinton are fraudulent Republican votes and should not be counted (60 percent x 68,849 votes). Therefore, Sen. Obama easily won the Indiana Democratic primary by approximately 27,000 votes (41,309 fraudulent Republican votes – 14,195 announced vote Clinton win = 27,114 Obama victory margin in Indiana).

Sen. Obama’s Indiana primary win is significant and has a material impact on whether Sen. Clinton should remain in the Democratic race.

Judi J - Nice comment. You go girl!! Judi is an informed and intelligent lady. A true American that understands America political values.

I believe Hillary will be our next president! If not on the democratic ticket it will be as an Independent! Watch out Obama & McCain, Hillary is not the type to sit back, and we aren't either!

Anyone would be challenged to find a finer demonstration of resourceful resolve. Stand back and let Hillary work her heart out. Frankly, it's inspiring and refreshing to see a leader with such pluck and intelligence. Oh, please, give us a few more intelligent leaders who can think and talk.

Has anyone noticed that the Democratic Party has registered more voters during this election cycle that any previous in history. Has anyone noticed that people who have never made a contribution to a political campaign have made one? I am 52 years old and I have never seen the amount of interest in an election as this one. Apparently, the process is working pretty well. If you are a Clinton or an Obama supporter here is my advice; get to work and support your candidate and let the process work. Americans would be furious with a football team or a baseball team who walked off the field because they were behind. Why would you think a candidate for the highest office in our country should just throw in the towel? I would expect my President to fight to the bitter end for our country. I expect no less from my candidate.

This dialogue is quite interesting and I think telling of the immaturity that "many", not all, people hold toward the candidates. Yet, despite this at the end of the day, Obama has won...he basically has won a game that he should never have really been able to compete in. You now hear all about sports analogies...well Obama is the Giants and Clinton is the Patriots!!! She was originally the presumptive nominee......BUT SOMETHING HAPPENED?!?!?!?! The people saw somebody better and guess what?!?! They voted for him!!!

That is democracy folks...love it or hate it.

If Hillary truly cares about this country as much as she claims to, she will bow out of this race and throw her support 100% behind Barack Obama and ask all of her supporters to do the same. The longer she stays in, or if she did something crazy like run as an independent, will only increase the likelihood of a Republican victory and another 4 years of the country being run down the drain.

Brian - I agree with you regarding, 'millions that have not yet voted will be denied their right to speak'. I think the DNC should use the same system the republicans use. Then there would never have been this FL, MI issue. However, on the issue of whether or not Obama 'cannot even carry the white, working class base', that raises the issue of whether we are voting as a democrat party or running a popularity race here. As a democratic party, I believe that we have historically increased our numbers and now have an unbeatable vote in this election. Read the news and observe the phanominal(sp?) number of new democrats registered for this election. The dems can't lose, unless people focus only on candidates instead of party loyalty.

Fla and Mich haven't been counted YET - with those states counted - they DID decide the DNC hasn't made a decision - Clinton has been a winner all along. It's time for media to stop trying hegemonic, jaundiced reporting and let the people decide - It is unlikely either Clinton nor Obama will get what is needed to cinch the nomination or it will be way too close to call without the people who attend the DNC in Aug - I certainly wouldn't vote for Bam-Bam - way too immature, etc. Many people feel that way - Ever think of a third party? Republican / ex-Republican-wanna be Democrats / and New-old Democrats - Be looking for it.

Collea-Devi

If HRC is out, McCain has already won. Why? The Clinton Democrats. These are the people who were formerly known as Reagan Democrats. They gave the whitehouse back to the Dem's for the first time since Carter floated in for 1 term on the back of the Nixon Impeachment.
Go ahead and nominate another loser: McGovern, Kerry, Gore, Dukakis, Obama.
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

I loved the idea of Hillary running as an independent! I'm in!!!

DNC- you're losin' me....I want to WIN.
Hillary '08.

Hillary don't give up! Obama will take us all down. Run as an independent if you must but we NEED you. The smug Obama in jeans is making me sick.

The pundits have been calling for Hillary to drop out for some time now, saying she can't win the required number of delegates. Well guess what? Empty suit Obama can't either. He can't win unless Hillary drops out. Why should she do that before everyone has had a chance to vote? The smarter solution would be for BO to drop out. If Obama is the eventual nominee, I will still vote for Hillary as a write-in. I could never vote for someone so inexperienced who the media clearly had a hand in propelling to popularity. Go Hillary!

We are at a critical time in this country and we need action more than words and the only immediate deliverer of those actions that this country desperately need is Sen Clinton. She means intelligence, experience, capability, knowlege and most of all she is the true American who is very passionate about the future of this country and its people. Truly she is the only one with solid solutions for change on how we can be on the right track again because she is the real deal and the real change we need.

The democratic process needs to run its course and all votes need to be counted. Hillary is the most prepared and experienced candidate. If the process is circumvented, half of the democrats will be disenfranchised and will probably not vote. That will be the democratic party's gift to the republicans. I hope it is instead Hillary in 2008!!!

Posted by: Shirley Stewart | May 8, 2008 11:09 AM

Now if that isnt the description of ENTITLEMENT, I dont know what is. What GALL. That is why Hilary is on the curb now. Because instead of standing tall, she wanted to cry and sling mud, and lie, and anything but discuss issues - LIKE AT THE BEGINNING of the primaries when he rattled off 11 in a row. She got out-debated, out-fundraised, out-spoken, out-smarted, and out-classed. She used OUT-DATED politics and now all she has left is out-rage. Thats not Obama's fault.

Hillary staying in the race is the best thing for Obama becaue it keeps all media focus solely on the Democrats and leaves McCain as a forgotten candidate, which is the best strategy either of them can use.

I am sorry to inform all you Demcrats but McCain will win regardless of who he running against. He is not an ideologue, he is fiscally responsible (not a single earmark!), a man of integrity and an American hero. People like McCain. He won the primary with no money, right-wing radio avidly against him and no Party support. Yet, he trounced the competiton (weak as it was), why? Because people like him and respect him. Obama or Cliinton cannot tump his intrinsic characteristics that make people like him

Do you people not read the news. Even if you count FL and MI, Hillary still is behind Barack.

If a man had won the States Hillary has won, had the support of 30 Generals, carried the working middle class and swing voters, no one would be telling him to step down. On the contrary, they would be telling Obama to step aside. Thank you for your comments but this is about electing the most qualified, experienced person to be the next President of the United States. Obama can't close the deal, can't get the support of the Reagan Democrats and can't get the number of delegates needed to wrap up the nomination. This will be decided by the remaining Super Delegates, so the math is there for Hillary.

Thank you,
John Gibson

The "Canadian for Obama" sees us as the rest of the world does. Even though they don't vote in our elections, they still base their opinions of us on the way we think and behave. Why can't we show them that as Americans, we take our political system serious. Instead of displaying how politically divided we are. The irony of all this is, we are fighting within one party, instead of fighting between parties. Think for a moment and you will see that the Republicans are eating this up. I would be willing to bet that they already know that the election is clinched for McCain. So people tell me, what is it you REALLY want? Is it a democrat in office? Or is it a Republican in office.

If I were a member of the Republican party, or just a supporter, I would have a field day here. I could create anger between those voters who favor Hillary and those voters who favor Obama. But wait, is it possible that it is already taking place? What do you think?

If the discourse was more in line with party differences, rather than candidate differences, then we would know who the outsiders are.

Don't allow yourselves to become victims of a possible republican scheme.

Get off her back She knows what to do and when to do it. writing nasty remarks isnt going to get it done. She know this is the end and let her get her courage together because not only do you want her to quit a word she doesnt get you want her on the stage kissing his butt till it is done. Leave her alone Sue Miller

RFB - Usually I'm just content to read this stuff but I have to respond to your comments:
No. Hillary does not have plenty of money. Her campaign did an event over 12 weeks ago at a university where I work and we STILL HAVE NOT BEEN PAID. It was hastily arranged, went well, and the university bent over backwards for her and no payment is forthcoming! The school is ticked as they had to turn down an event from an organization who likely would have paid to do their event!

As for the DNC rules concerning nominating - do you realize that Bill and Hill MADE the rules by which she is currently losing?

Lastly, her campaign has been barely competent. Look at Texas, where I seem to recall her saying, I'll paraphrase - I didn't realize the Texas delegate process was so complicated. Wasn't it her job to know or at least to hire someone who did know? She won Texas but only came out in a tie with delegates. Why? Incompetence.

It is not Obama's fault she has no money or didn't hire people who understood the caucus system of various state. Those are strategic organizational errors from someone who should have known better. This is, at least, the THIRD presidential campaign she has been involved in - how is it the fault of we so-called stupid Obama supporters that she has hired and fired people who have mangled it so badly?

Our candidate hired a pretty good team, understood what it took to win the nomination, and is well capitalized despite a much later start fundraising than the wife of the last two term democratic president who was drowning in big money contributors anxious for a third Clinton term.

If you believe so fervently in her viable continued candidacy I suggest you write her a check. Today! So that she can start to pay back all the businesses she didn't pay -you know, the campaign debt, there are real people behind those numbers.

She's trying to give people 30 or 40 bucks for the summer from the gas tax while stiffing hardworking people who have done events for her and THEN she loans herself money so she can continue a campaign for the nomination she has already lost (again, based on rules she helped write) instead of paying her debts to the people and businesses who were stupid enough to do business with her to even get her this far.

I think they will show her the respect of letting her devise her own exit strategy ONLY if she stops bashing Obama.
If she continues with the ugly remarks, the response from the superdelegates is likely to be swift and brutal.
This is her once-in-a-lifetime chance to prove she has grace and dignity. I hope she takes it, before she destroys her political career.

I support Clinton and hope she carries this through to the very end!

Obama has not won yet, and until he does she has every right to continue the fight.

She is the stronger candidate, the more qualified, and the democratic party will be the weaker for it if the superdelegates decide not to back her.

I am getting really tired of people who keep saying Hillary should quit or Hillary's friends don't see her winning. Well, I am one of her friends and I do NOT feel that way at all. You talk about her not bringing it home. I would like to say that she has brought it and continues to bring it. Who has NOT been able to close the deal with the media behind him? OBAMA is who. Clinton has continued to run despite the media behind Obama and despite the calls for her to quite. The election isn't over and all the votes have not been counted. Let's see what happens and then take on the real problem for us Democrats, McCain.

Senator Clinton has been running behind for awhile but very closely. Also by now everyone knows that the black vote is Obama's strongest constituency. His win in North Carolina was a no-brainer. The irony is that if Michigan and Florida had been able to count their votes, Hillary would be leading this race. Also Hillary owes it to her millions of supporters to keep going in this race.. Unfortunately Senator Obama is not prepared to be the next US President. This is not "American Idol" nation. It would be tragic to lose an opportunity for Senator Clinton to be our next President. Millions of Americans want Clinton to be our next President. We're not going to be swayed by 152 delegates...bah..that's barely a lead!!

All my relatives and friends live in Canada. They say all of Canada are laughing at United States because of Obama. They pray he never gets in.I am for Hillary all the way and believe me i would vote for MCcain before Obama

Posted by: Gregory G. Dempsey | May 8, 2008 11:57 AM

Greg - you took the words right out of my mouth, and I've been saying them for months. The best leaders are TEAM leaders. "W" never had a team, just a pack of dogs. Most of them have run off now, or are laying in the corner licking themselves. Mr. Obama in his writings and his campaign choices, has show the true qualities of leadership. Put a great team together, listen to what they have to say, balance the information, then make an informed decision. That is the definition of administration - Patience, intelligence, leadership.

Hillary wins all the states needed to get win in the general. Obama wins republican states by caucus.

Only a fool wuold think Obama is a viable candidate for the general.

I would never dare vote for him.

Many of the Clinton supporters here argue that she is the best candidate even though she received fewer votes. This argument may be valid in Bizarro World but not on Planet Earth where more means more. Clinton lost because she ran a bad campaign despite all the advantages she inherited. Does this count as further evidence of her competence?

Come on- This has gotten silly. Doesn't Hillary see that the entire world is laughing at her at this point?

So the media finally gets the chance they've been waiting for to kick Hillary in the teeth or even better, condescendingly call for her to "graciously back out" Just remember, months of mistreatment, ridicule and mysogeny aimed at this women has not only cost her the nomination, it has disenfranchised millions of women who will have to look in the mirror and look and their children and know that in fact, a woman is still not considered as good as a man in this country. Her defeat is a defeat for us all

I think you will see a veil of gloom when HIllary's supporters bring down Obama in Nov. by voting for McCain the gloom will be on their faces, he cannot win the blue collar workers and the white vote it will never happen and I will tell you the more you put her down you make my resolve and many others to do what we can by e-mailing each other and calling each other all through the summer into the fall, the media and many other people already had Obama elected before the primaries, and I hope all the young voters out their remember to vote in Nov., they should of been there in 2004 and maybe the country wouldn't be in such a mess.

Very few of you are focused on the horrors of Iraq. Have you forgotten that both Hillary and Feinstein voted along with President Bush to invade? Perhaps it is just apathy on your part. So keep on turning "a blind eye" and vote for Hillary or McCain.. Put an American flag pin on your lapel and pretend you care..

There is a deep misunderstanding here. Hillary was treated with Kid gloves by Obama and the MSM this entire time. At any time Obama could have opened Clinton's closet and pulled out the skeletons of Whitewater, Vince Foster, and Monica Lewinsky. But no matter how many times she Rezko'd or Wrighted him he never did. Why do you suppose this is? Even a cynic like me has to do a double take there. I think it's because he is a class act.

Thanks for your relevant and timely comments, Katie. I seem to recall in my American History class (when I stayed awake) there was something about "taxation without representation" and also a Boston Tea Party. Both political parties seem to think they can disenfranchise us, but they can tax our income at the same rate they tax men's. Maybe that should stop. And I won't even get into the media -- whether mainstream, right or left, it's almost universally misogynistic.

But, what is the will of the people?

About the pundits declaring the race is over, we think they are ignoring the fatal flaw in the Democratic nominating process. We have not read one article or heard one pundit talk about why caucuses do not necessarily reflect the will of the people. Obama owes his lead in pledged delegates to the twelve caucuses.

So, what is the problem? Caucuses disenfranchise Hillary's main voter base: older voters, working people who cannot afford baby sitters or take time off to participate in the lengthy caucus process, and, last but not least, the many women who are intimidated or feel pressured by the public aspect of caucuses. Many of these voters use absentee ballots in primary states. To prove to yourself that the caucus results do not represent the voting population of a state, compare the results of caucuses to the results of primaries (see the Map on the website election.msn.com, for example).

We call on the superdelegates to study the caucus issue and what it means in this election before the media makes the decision for them. Hillary Rodham Clinton has shown that she is the most electable Democrat based on the results in primary states.

Since we still live in a democracy, this process should continue. The Obama supporters are rude and pushy as evidence by their behavior of heckling Clinton's dtr. at a rally yesterday. I witnessed, first hand, the poor behavior of these supporters at an Austin caucus a few months ago. Clinton is the best candidate hands down. I started out as an Obama fan and a Clinton fan, but have been so disappointed by his novice manner. The Rev. Wright issue is a deal breaker.

If you really think about it, you can see why it must be so hard for Hillary to concede: she's bright, ambitious, and has always had enough money, drive, connections, and opportunity to succeed at probably just about anything she's sought. She must be simply incredulous that it didn't work this time, especially since it appeared at the outset that she would have a clear path all the way to 1600 Penna. Ave. Sometimes, it all just comes down to luck. It ain't on your side this time, girl, and if you think you feel bad, how'd you like to have been Al Gore in 2000!

Let' see:
Obama=openness, Clinton=secrecy, Obama=grassroots,
Clinton=top down,
Obama=outsider
Clinton=insider
Obama=ethics reform
Clinton=Queen of earmarks
Obama's campaign=flourishing
Clinton's campaign=broke
Who do we want managing the country?

I know you need to get people stirred up so that they will read your article, but just let the people vote. It is only until mid June. Just let them vote. The difference between these two is really so small. Why would we even want her to quit? I would hope that some one with the guts to run for President of the US would have the guts to not quit when there are 5 more contest and Michigan and Florida are being wrongly denied their right to vote in this election and Obama is the only thing standing in the way of them working out a re vote. Why won't he let them re vote...would it mean you all would have to stop asking Hillary to drop out? Would it mean that you may actually be asking him to drop out? I wonder.
Kris

"The Rev. Wright issue is a deal breaker."

Huh? Reverend Wright is just worthless drivel the media spun to look like a scandal. And get this: with Obams THAT'S THE BEST THEY CAN DO! "Hey everybody! A Black man once hung out with an angry black man! Aren't you terrified?!" Give me a break. I am sure you could never be associated with someone who said something you completely and totally disagree with, right Xavier?

If we could go back to the primaries and caucases that were held in the early months, you can bet those results would be different today and Hillary would be the nominee.

Obama's relationship with Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko and who knows what else we'll find out about were not public knowledge in the early months thanks to MSNBC and CNN.

I will not vote for Obama and I have voted as a Democrat for over 30yrs.

Many Obama supporters like to assume facts not in evidence. As a libertarian, I feel absolutely no Democratic party loyalty, I would vote for Clinton if she were the nominee, because I think she is the best of 3 imperfect options. I don't really care about her past adventures, and I certainly wouldn't attribute Bill's indiscretions to her like a certain Canadian (and I used to think you were such nice people!) Complaining that she is untruthful and ruthless is sort of like complaining that a (female) fish has gills. I won't vote for McCain, but I am too old and too cynical to fall for Obamania. Both to me represent extreme forms of statism.

I had to laugh when I saw a comment blaming Clinton supporters for electing Bush. I voted, in reverse chrono order, for Kerry, Gore, Clinton (twice) and Dukakis (!) But the idealism of my youth has faded, just as many of you Obama supporters will probably one day vote for some old white guy. You won't ever be cool enough to vote for a woman.

What kind of "closest friends" would tell Senator Clinton what you quote that they are telling her? Her supporters certainly are not telling her this, and so I doubt that her closest friends are telling her that. And, if they are her closest friends, I also doubt that they are talking to reporters who would quote what you are printing!

I think we're toast. All because we're having to kowtow to an ego which cannot see beyond it's nose. So many of the comments above are angry "bittter" tirades which play into McCain's hands just like the "...can't attract women, hispanics, working white men...blah-blah-blah. I can just see the republicans using reruns of campaign statements made during the end of this campaign, trying to woo away one side. It's that sort of pettiness and taking things for granted which lost, not race or gender.

Hillary Clinton appeals to the anti-bush crowd who are bigots at heart and those are the people whom Hillary is activally courting. I am shocked at her nastiness and
foolish pride; she's just one of the boys, right ? Do not put it past her to run as an independent if she is " forced " out of race; she and bill have a lot invested in this. I have noticed Hillary has developed a slight West Virginia hill way of talking these past few days, in anticipation of their primary ?
Meanwhile, there are registered voters who simply cannot find it within themselves to vote for a non-lily white candidate and BYW who profited from the Wright controversy ? Hillary and she knows it.

Hillary is the strongest to go up against Mccain.Obama is inexperienced and to weak.Hillary to the WhiteHouse

The American public will suffer once again if they elect Obama. With Hilary, we get her and Bill's expertise. I sat by in stunned disbelief when I witnessed people praise Bush 4 years ago, now look what a mess he has gotten us in.

Posted by: susie reid | May 8, 2008 10:53 AM

Spoken like a true republican or a VERY SORE LOSER!!! Comparing Barack Obama is criminal and should automaticlly make you ineligible to vote as a Democrat. What a ridiculous comment.

Period.

Posted by: Sunny Florida | May 8, 2008 10:54 AM

Sunny Florida you really should consider the GOP since you clearly haven't a clue. So how much money did the non-elitist Hillary Clinton make the last couple of years??? Was is 105 or 110 MILLION DOLLAR$$$. How did she make that money????

GET REAL!!! Obama 2008

This Democratic Primary was/is bound to leave some disenfranchised group feeling left out - either women or blacks. But the reality is that either Clinton or Obama would advance the cause of disenfranchised groups. I urge people to not take the loss of their candidate as a rejection of their group, I don't think many people are voting to reject either women or African Americans.

I only read the first quarter of the comments, but a few things that I didn't see mentioned much were:

In the surprise of Clinton not leading in the campaign, one of my biggest surprises is that Clinton is losing in fundraising. Where is Clinton going to get the money to finish the campaign?

Yes Obama is over spending, if you ask me. But some how Obama has done the impossible, financed a campaign on grassroots donations (although Dean was on his way to doing this last time) and to an extent that has dwarfed big spenders money. Why isn't amazing accomplishment being noted as a tremendous asset? When people list the ways Obama is leading, fundraising is never mentioned - strange huh? Can't we save this cash for fighting McCain & the Republicans rather than tearing down other Democrats?

I understand the enormous sense of loss by Clintons diehard supporters - to be so close to seeing one of your own as President is truly disappointing. It makes one want to lash out at those responsible. I understand I have been there. But do you diehard Clinton supporters really want to live with McCain's Supreme Court nominees or the war continuing as is or the support of torture by our government? I think after the pain of the loss has subsided, I think you will not be so quick to support an independent run by Clinton or voting for McCain. But I'm sure your not feeling like supporting the person or the people who caused your current defeat. But hopefully the bigger picture will prevail over the sting of the defeat by Obama.

I'll be the first to admit that math presents a challenge for me--although, I must confess, I do know the basics. I also know that Senator Hillary Clinton's math does not add up! I mean, really! She can't win the popular vote or get the necessary delegates to become the Democratic presidential nominee. Perhaps, Senator Clinton should have saved her money and invested in a math class (or tutor) or book on how to bow out gracefully--of course, this would also be for all the good folks in her campaign who "just don't get it!"

So, what is the problem? Caucuses disenfranchise Hillary's main voter base: older voters ... and, last but not least, the many women who are intimidated or feel pressured by the public aspect of caucuses.

And you want a woman President? ROFL!!!!!!

Senator Clinton has more dignity than you and all those supposed friends put together. I guess it infuriates you and your ilk that she is not a quitter. There are many of us still standing behind her, too. And, remember, we are the ones who will not be voting for BO, ever, never. And articles like these, day after day after day, coupled with the weakness of BO's character and experience are the reasons. So...why don't you do your real job and look into some real issues...like voting irregularities, press bias, and the candidate with the super-thin resume? So stop spreading your rumors. Hillary is the last to take a pay off. And do some real reporting...where are BO's state senate records, anyway?

Hillary Clintons veil of sleaze would be more to the point.

God is with Hillary Clinton, always.

The press fails to question the cheated will of millions of voters in Washington, Texas, Michigan, and Florida. The press fails again to ask "Why is it that a republican anti-Hillary vote in Alaska is worth 30 true-blue Democratic votes in Pennsylvania?"
This is the Democratic Party, not the Dean's Brand New Rules Against Hillary Only Party. By the old rules Hillary is the nominee. Dean does not choose the nominee, the People do. Get used to it!

I will not vote for Obama and I have voted as a Democrat for over 30yrs.

What a bunch of CRYBABYS! Your candidate lost, deal with it. No real democrat would ever vote for McCain. Any democrat who does should just join the corrupt GOP.

She should stay in. She has the popular vote and a vast group of supporters who genuinely believe she is the best qualfied. She is not staying in to "ruin" Obama's chances. This is a ridiculous meme now being pressed on voters by Obama and his campaign. She is in it because her supporters believe she is potentially the best president.

The media and Obama trying to bully her out is Chicago politics -- old politics -- in its worst form. A preview of who he really is -- a kind of Bush-lite circa 2000 and 2004.

why does everyone refer to Sen Clinton as "Hillary" and refer to Sen Obama as "Obama"?

where the heck are the real journalists in this country - what the heck is democracy and freedom of the press good for - if the journalists are all quacks and flakes???

Journalists have become an embarrassment to our country, to our intellect and to the role of media in our democracy.

STOP! Hillary is in the game and will continue to be in the game as long as she has so much of the American public behind her. her supporters are ready for her to stay in win the nomination and hopefully become the next president in the US.

Who the hell said it is the place of the media to tell a candidate in the middle of a democratic process to step down. you guys are the fawns of Obama.

get over yourselves. You can't ask the tough questions of Obama and his mysterious past, his complete lack of experience, his lack of judgment and integrity and toughness - but you can repeatedly demand (who the hell are you to demand) that hillary - experienced, tough, knowledgeable, proven history of fighting for the working class of all colors and races, a historic candidate - that's time for her to quit.

you are all running scared because the longer the country sees Obama - the more they distrust him.

Shut the heck up hackers and leave journalism to the real journalists - few and far in between that they must be.

Hillary's only drawback is that she is not black - if she were people could vote for her regardless of her qualifications simply because she black. disgusting that the same group that has andrew young, maya angelou, dr, martin luther king (personal heroes of mine) - who fought hard for us to see the true substance of a person not just his/her skin color now vote en mass like puppets for Obama simply because he is black.

Too bad women couldn't do the same - if that's what it takes to win the nomination and not your credentials, hard work and proven history and indepth knowledge of the issues.

Since when do the press or the opposite candidate tells a candidate that has 16 million votes to quit? Outrageous! Everyone must have a chance to vote including FL and MI.
Personally if Hillary is not the nominee, I as well as the rest of my family will vote for McCain. He is someone we can respect! Obama can't win with the AA and liberal vote alone and that's all he has. Maybe that's the destiny of the democratic party because that's the kind of candidates they choose: Kerry and Dukakis. Now I understand why is it that the white working class keep leaving that party.!

I am a Hillary supporter and I do not want her to quit. It is as simple as that. I want her to fight till the end.Obama is going to lose in General election because I will campaign of McCain if he gets the nomination.

Clinton should run as an independent!! Republicans have McCain, Democrats want to be Obamabots, Clinton could run as independent and I think she would win because she is the only candidate worth voting for!!!!! Clinton is the only one who could bring change to this country that would be good!!!!!

Hillary must stay. She is head and shoulders above Senator Obama. She's worked hard and kept her promises to New Yorkers and will do the same for all of us.

--------------------------

You are asking us to vote for our next president based on your criteria. That is a nice wish list, but Obama doesn't even come close to any of those characteristics.

Senator Hillary Clinton staying in the race is the only chance that the DNC has of saving the general election and the democratic party. Anybody who has read Obama's books and Website knows he is mostly about himself. It is not about this country he only pretends to love. He offers nothing more than academic rhetoric relating to the hope of change with vague solutions at best on how he will accomplish anything concrete. Any proposed policies that have substance Obama stole from Sen. Clinton. He is not ready to be president and if anything he is hurting his opportunities for a future presidential bid. If Obama does get the nomination this time he will lose to McCain unless Sen. Clinton does all of his campaigning and literally/expressly begs her supporters to vote for him. Even then, every Democrat I know will either write in Sen. Clinton in November or not vote at all. At this critical time in our history America does not need a unqualified media created fake and arrogant wimp for a president. Obama's supporters' (including the media's) blinding unwillingness to seriously scrutinize his real qualifications and obvious weaknesses as a candidate makes him is too dangerous to get my vote. The only thing that gives me hope for this country is that Sen. Hillary Clinton has not given up on us.

Respectfully submitted, M. Miller

I'm white, 73 y/o, descendant of the Mayflower, widow of hispanic immigrant, raised in midwestern small farming town, supported until teenager by county welfare due to the death of my father, contributor to local charities, admirer of all Democratic presidents and would like to vote for a woman to become our US president. (Just not this one.) Obama has the charisma to inspire our young people to get involved in our country's future. It will be theirs one day and they should be involved in how it will look. Obama does not have "experience" which doesn't really matter. What he has is the ability to gather people of quality together, the intelligence and the willingness to look beyond the fiery present, and make thoughtful decisions. We need a president who will talk with leaders of all nations in this global society. Those of you who say you would not vote for him if he is the Democratic candidate are really quite scary. I really don't like Hillary as a person and do not trust her, but if push came to shove, and though it pains me to say this, I would vote for her because she is the party's choice. The alternative is worse, we would have the same as we have had for the past 8 years. Our children and grandchildren can't afford it. We have so many problems created by this ill conceived war. Because of it, they will be burdened with it's cost for decades to come. Be gracious if Hillary loses and support our Democratic party. We are adults, not children. That's why we are allowed to vote and they aren't.

You know what is truly amazing? The people on these boards who insist upon calling obama supporters "obama-ites" rather than "democrats."

You realize these are mostly people so enamored with our democratic process that they've not just spoken, but given money to a campaign to spend their own, hard-earned, lessening-in-value-every-day dollars to bring to the country a candidate who BELIEVES that this country has the promise of being great but, for the past 8 years at least, hasn't BEEN great.

I have to ask those "Democrats" who criticize the type of democracy that Obama has been able to inspire... "What would please you?" A self-appointed heir to the throne? That's a monarchy you're looking form. Please stop criticizing those with a belief and a voice -- especially when those aren't the wealthy -- of somehow being tools of some sort of establishment.

Those fighting for the same are the tools of the establishment. Those, like me, an active-in-the-cause feminist for many years, who have given hard earned dollars to Obama, are not just offended by your insinuation that you get to own the definition of democracy, but that you would even insinuate that you know what democracy means.

End oppressive republican rule.
End the war in Iraq.
End patronizing politics.
End politicized stalemates.
End the "handing down" of leadership in this country.

And start something that we all can believe in.

You may be loud in your disbelief in the people in this country to be able to elect for a change. And to every one of you who criticize those voters in this country who vote for change and call them "Obama-ites" realize. YOU are the ones fighting against democracy. YOU are the elitists. YOU are the ones holding back the democratic party from actually being the party that represents the PEOPLE.

If you hate democracy... go ahead. Vote for McCain. Those of us cheering for the survival and triumphance of democracy in november will feel really sorry for how small you really see the world.

Obama is actually going to defeat the Democrats again in this campaign. Those of us who believe Hillary Clinton is the better candidate based on her experience are not going to become Obama converters just because he is winning the delegate count. I myself will vote for McCain because without Hillary, he becomes the more experienced candidate -- even if he is a Republican. Hillary is PROVING that he is a questionable candidate who is losing steam. And people, this does seem to be about race -- but only for the African Americans. They seem to be polarized to this candidate just because of his skin color -- but what are his qualifications? I live in Illinois, and I don't even know what he's done here as a Senator, do you? If fact, we've hardly heard from him until his candidacy for President.

only the democratic party can be so stupid as to nominate a total loser in an election cycle that should be democratic. add insult to injury the democrats look to the worst candidate ever to ratify their loser choice, geoge mcgovern.it is probably only because he would like to relincquish the mantle of worst loser candidate to obama. obama should do all democrats a favor by getting out of the race now. all polls now show that the only person that can beat mccain in the fall is hillary clinton. democrat superdelegates wake up and nominate hillary. your job is to save the democratic party from itself because we are too stupid to see a winner like hillary right before are eyes.superdelegates are supposed to vote for the best candidate and best president. well all polls show that is Hillary. Hillary hes proven she is a winner. obama is now going back on his word to get out if he could not win it in his own backyard in indiana. republicans are laughing at us all the way back to the whitehouse.their operation mindf--- has been flawlessly executed. they have used reverse psycology to convince the dumb democratic voter to support obama knowing full well that is exactly who they want to run against and have now got him where they want him , running third in a three way race. obama is a loser and will take us all down to defeat. only the democratic party can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. thank GOD for HILLARY CLINTON. she must be the nominee of the party so we can end the madness. HILLARY CLINTON is the savior of the nation.

Hillary I agree with the lady who said if the DNC chooses Obama that you should run as an independent. You are a far more qualified candidate than Ralph Nader.I also heard on "the daily show with Jon Stewart" that he suggested McCain choose you as his VP pick. The audience agreed. But I think you should run as an independent. You have so many supporters who are backing you,and I promise we will all vote for you in the general election whether you run as the democrat nominee or as an independent. But I WILL NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA.I will vote for McCain if Hillary drops out.

The very thought that a campaign should be halted and Senator Clinton quit is the opposite of what this country stands for. We are a nation of 50 states, not 48, and the people of Floirda and Michigan deserve to have their votes and delegates counted. Senator Obama who has ignored them, wants the remaining primaries not to happen denying those voters their right to choose because the election process is going on too long and he is bored. Candidates in the past haven't been decided until June, so what's the rush? Could it be the voters will see the light and stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Speeches do not move me if there is no substance or experience to back it up. Senator Hillary Clinton has solutions with details to back up the how to tackle the issues facing this country. She has been the voice for children, senior citizens, families, our military. She is a Patriot who loves her country so much that she works non-stop talking to the people, doing her Senate work at the same time. Being President will require multi-tasking and long hours. It isn't glamorous.
Senator Obama's association with Rev. Wright for 20 years, and not opposing him until now when it's a probem, Voting Present on most of his Senate votes, not yes or no, does not work as President. The Buck stops at the Oval Office. Michelle Obama saying she finally is proud to be an American is a problem for me.
Senator Clinton, keep on going and let all the voters of this country have their voices heard and don't let the media or the DNC decide who will be the next candidate. This is from a small-town woman, originally from Philly who is not bitter, doesn't own a gun, not a religous fanatic and has dignity. That was the last straw. No one talks down to me. Go Hillary!!

Hillary won't quit, and she shouldn't.
I am a volunteer in my state of KY for Hillary. I'm calling many people who are excited about voting May 20th so they can "hire" the best person for the job.

On this message board, I am waiting for someone who can actually give a list of what Obama has achieved to fill that position. I see only snide remarks about Hillary but no substance about Obama.
Who is he??

Should Clinton quit? Absolutely not! Although much of the media is apparently under the misapprehension that it, not the voters, should decide which candidate should be elected, and when, regardless of qualifications, and has strenuously tried to force Clinton from the race, she'll win. She's smart, tough, experienced, & far better prepared for the job and responsibilities of the oval office.

We know she'll steer us back to a sound economy without wars, with good employment, the same health care plan that Congress members enjoy, gas & electricity we can afford, increased employment, no more out-sourcing, & an income tax that's fair to us--the working class--instead of favoring the wealthy. We trust Clinton. For my family it's Clinton all the way & we're supporting her every way we can, including campaign contributions whenever we can--it's our investment in our future.

We watched Bill Clinton pull us out of the morass left by his predecessor, and we know that as president Hillary will do the same for us now. Were Barack Obama to become president, we know no such thing; his history, basic philosophy per his autobiography, his "selective" memory, and close friendships with questionables like Rezko, Faraquan, el-slsl, and Wright make us apprehensive about his qualifications, who he would choose as his cabinet, advisers, and chiefs of staff, and where he would lead us. He promises change but so did George Bush. Hillary promises change, and we know we can trust that her changes will be for the better.

in reality. Though what she says is not so different from him, she's just saying what

she thinks people want to hear. Obama means business, I think, and that would leave her

out. Hilary has many supports on largemingle c o m, it is also a nice singles communitry

for celebrity bbw, big beautiful women, bhm and their admirers to interact each other!
