The Gallup Poll has found that most Democrats want the Obama-Clinton campaign to carry on, with minorities calling on Clinton or Obama to drop out.
by Mark Silva
Most Democrats are likely to get their wish tonight, with the results of the Democratic primary elections in Indiana and North Carolina, if polling is any indication.
Six in 10 Democrats say Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama should continue their presidential campaigns, the Gallup Poll has found.
"Of the minority who would like to see either Clinton or Obama drop out and concede the nomination,'' Gallup's Jeff Jones notes, " more call for Clinton to step down than Obama.''
There are some 187 pledged delegates at stake tonight in Indiana and North Carolina -- 72 in Indiana, 115 in North Carolina. But if the polls prove predictive, these both could be very close contests, effectively splitting the pledged delegates in the two states between the two Democrats.
With Obama holding a nearly 150 pledged-delegate advantage over Clinton heading into these primaries, that makes the most likely result of tonight's results more campaigning for the hearts of the party superdelegates who have the power to settle this race as they press ahead with a final month of primaries.
"There have been calls for Clinton to drop out, given Obama's lead in pledged delegates, which he built up in a string of primary and caucus victories in February,'' Gallup's Jones notes. "Those calls have been quieted to some extent with Clinton's big wins in the March 4 Ohio and Texas primaries and the April 22 Pennsylvania primary. Even so, she is unlikely to overcome the delegate deficit unless she can convince a disproportionate amount of undecided superdelegates to support her candidacy.
"Democrats' opinions about the next steps in the campaign are, not surprisingly, highly influenced by the candidate they currently favor,'' he adds. "Obama supporters are about evenly divided between favoring a continuation of the campaign and wanting to see Clinton drop out and concede to Obama. Clinton supporters mostly favor having the campaign continue, obviously to allow Clinton a chance to catch up to Obama, while the remainder say Obama should drop out.''

If Hillary takes Indiana with a commanding lead and just barely loses North Carolina, the superdelegates need to start defecting from Camp Obama and join Camp Clinton.

Dear Fellow Americans,
Our Great-grand Nation, the United States of America
is and will face very critical and substantial
"Challenges" in coming,
months, years, and decades to come.
It is very essential that we pick out our next
President on following criteria in mind.
1. A candidate with "Vision and Mission".
2. A candidate with " Stable Character and Integrity"
.
3. A candidate with "Presidential Temperament" and
"stable Judgment".
4. A candidate with "little "Washington" exposure"
and
"real connectedness with New Voters".
5. A candidate who "Inspires us up" rather than
"Tears us down".
6. A candidate not based on sexism, racism, and
ageism.
In my professional and personal opinion, the only
candidate who has the above qualities and
characteristics and is also cool, calm, and collected
is Senator Obama.
As an independent registered voter since 1980. I voted
for Carter, voted for Reagan, voted for First Bush,
and second Bush in 2000 and In the process last
interest in Washington politics as usual and I
stopped voting. Not a good idea under any circumstance
particularly at present.
This time we can not afford to stay on side lines and
let Washington stay the same.We can not afford our
Greatgreat Nation to become less than what we are and
can be.
We need to send clear and candid message to the world
and some 24 hour partisan hateful media. These media
outlets are trying to deprive, dupe, and derail us
from getting it right this time.
They are trying there best to deny us better rather
than bitter future. { Our Greatgrand Nations people
are persistently and constantly subjected to
Psychological terrorism" without their knowledge thru
these hateful partisan media outlets.
We Americans are should not and would not to allow
them
psychologically terrorized, traumatized and silence us
this time.
I am sure that we will get it right this
time and elect Senator Obama our next President. let
us not get dragged down into racism, sexism and
ageism.
Let us remember that our Greatgrand is constituted of
family, friends,fellowships, faith, funds,foundation,
fun, and future with fairness and freedom and without
fear or favor.
We can not afford to lose any of above. Let us stand
up, be counted, save, build our Greatgrand Nation for
centuries to come and regain our world economic, and
power status back.
God Bless our Great grand Nation and its diverse
people.
Our Greatgrand nation needs present and future
stability, security, safety,sustained progress and
restoration of our due status in this perilous Global
World at the all levels.

Fair reporting please: Clinton DID NOT win Texas. Obama got 99 delegates, Clinton 94. Hardly what you would call a win. In the open primaries, she did have about 100.000 more votes. But that is not the way elections are decided in the state, I am afraid.
Posted by: Bruno | May 6, 2008 12:07 PM
Well I have to leave to go vote for Obama. NC is such a wonderful state to live in.
Posted by: bill r. | May 6, 2008 12:07 PM
So of all those polled, 50% are for Hillary and 50% for Obama I presume. So, that means that 100% of Hillary supporters and 20% of Obama supporters said it should go on. That's not in the least bit surprising. Hmmm... should be fun to watch all the spin off of this one.
Posted by: Blake | May 6, 2008 12:10 PM
Mark Silva, you have your facts wrong. Clinton did not get a big win in Texas. In fact, Obama received more delegates in Texas than she did. And legally pledged delegates are the name of the game.
If you are a reporter, I expect and want honesty with facts.

The media has made this race seem so much closer than what it really is. I love how MSNBC, Keith Olberman aside, has suddenly done a 180 on Obama over the last month. CNN actually seems more objective now which says A LOT! Could they be anymore ratings driven? How many times did they play the gutter ball clip? As opposed to the "I have no idea how a coffee machine works or how to pump gas properly" clip? It does not matter if Obama loses both states today. Hillary cannot catch him in the pledged delegates, PERIOD! And if the super delegates take the nomination from him, it's not going to just send a message to African-Americans (something the mainstream media endlessly, and SHAMELESSLY says in an obvious race-wedge they have created against Obama), it will disenfranchise a whole generation of people from voting. This media power trip is the slow death rattle of our democracy. People get far too manipulated by the opinions of journalists; which is quite sad. Obama is right: nothing is going to change if the country keeps getting stuck in this cycle where people feel disempowered by their government.

C'mon The Clintonista Post, the most likely outcome is - Obama wins NC by a significant margin and barely loses in Indiana. There'll be a net gain by Obama of around 15 - 20 delegates at the end of the night. In the meantime Hillary "I gave peace to Northern Ireland" Clinton will just keep on doing McCain's work for him.

The last time I checked, the US was still more or less a democracy. So why should HC drop out just to placate the Kool-Aid drinkers? Why would fewer choices be better? I hope she takes it to the Convention.

Grossly inefficient government??? Pray tell how many acts of terrorism have been committed on Chicago soil pre or post 9/11? Mayor Daley has a better record fighting terror than the GOP, hands down. If you call that grossly inefficient, I'll take it.

Peter Paul's amended complaint seeks damages for loss of internet company

A $2 million Hollywood bash that honored President Bill Clinton and raised buckets of money for Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign in 2000 was bankrolled by business mogul Peter Franklin Paul, and he says that was because Bill Clinton told him he'd work with Paul's company once he left the White House.
Peter Paul and Sen. Hillary Clinton (Courtesy Hillcap.org)
But that plan failed when, Paul alleges, the former president's agent diverted a key investment away from Paul's company and it failed in the dot-com meltdown several years ago. Now his lawsuit against Clinton and others for allegedly conspiring to destroy his $200 million Internet business is moving forward, with a motion to file a second amended complaint.
A hearing on that motion, submitted to the court today, is scheduled Sept. 25, officials with the United States Justice Foundation told WorldNetDaily.
Paul alleges after he donated $1.9 million of cash and in-kind contributions for Mrs. Clinton's Senate campaign, Bill Clinton's agent used proprietary information obtained from Paul to convince Paul's Japanese partner to incorporate Venture Soft USA with him, not invest another $5 million with Paul.

I cannot believe it is even a contest. ON THE ISSUES, its a no-brainer. Folks are caught up in the drama. Most of us have to want CHANGE! Um tired of the Republicans and I show nuff know the Clintons would lie to God's face to get into the whitehouse again. He supports NAFTA and she doesnt. What kind of foolishness is that?

How can Americans be so gullable and succomb to fashion when seeking to elect the position of Commander in Chief??? Racism is working FOR Obama yet Sexism is working against Clinton. He has puled the race card, and supporters who say there will be problems with the African American vote if he is not elected are despicable. What about Clinton supporters who are maybe principally white americans - why should they be disenfranchised? Why should the her female vote be disenfranchised? Great Britain was saved from the brink of disaster (there are many parallels between 1979 GB and the US now) by a WOMAN who had the courage of her convictions, who fought for what she KNEW to be right despite many people in her own party being against her and who CHANGED HER COUNTRY FOR THE BETTER. Her name was MARGARET THATCHER and she was elected by the white working and lower middle classes.
Obama does not stand a chance against McCain - the ONLY delegate who would beat him is Clinton. To everywhere outside America we are dumbfounded that after the disasters of Bush, the Americans could contemplate electing a man with no experience, no real policies and no real grit - a man who annot take criticism and requires mass rallies to whip up enthusiasm using meaningless platitudes about change. Even more incredulous that Americans are supporting such a gamble when given the ability to elect their own Margaret Thatcher...

I cannot believe that people actually think Hillary can COMPLETE her proposals without the democratic process. All she rants about are a lot of 'politics as usual' SPIN ideas - funny she mentionioned "Wag The Dog" yesterday in a speech. That movie depicted her well at the time it was filmed - still applies. Only thing is now she is actually RUNNING for the position of President. Scary!! Check out her math skills - they don't compute very well for me...typical Clintonian it would seem.

You will see how caught up people are with this skin color thing. The country is going down the drain, there jobs are leaving, gas is $ 4.00 a gal in some places, McCain is old, poss. has cancer. with one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel and they wont vote for Obama.... very sad
Posted by: teddyo | May 6, 2008 1:16 PM
Stop. Think. Then, write. This is not news. Of course 6 in 10 democrats want the race to go on because 4-5 of them are Hillary Supporters. Why would Hillary supporters want her to drop out? If they did, then they would likely be Barack supporters. On that same note, Republicans want this thing to go on too. The only relevant group to poll about this issue are Barack supporters, but even those numbers are predictable.
Posted by: sam | May 6, 2008 1:17 PM
No Way should Senator Barack Obama ever think of standing down.
Working through all the latest polling and demographic research released today (Zogby) shows Women turning away from Hillary, could she have now peaked and are voters getting tired of her?
Hillary had the opportunity to take an exit and hold her head up high, but greed and vanity would not allow it, now she hangs on with hope to destroy Barack Obama for her to return in 2012m, forget it Hillary The Party and Voters will never Forgive You! another Strategy major mistake!
I think Hillary and Billy may have to start looking at delving into there well lined pension fund.

The only sexism I've heard in this campaign is from people like you telling me I have to vote for Hillary because she is a woman.
Incidentally, how do you square up you admiration for Margeret Thatcher, and her accomplishments, with your admiration with for Hillary? There policy positions are completely diferent. Thatcher was pro-business (no money grubbers there), anti- socialized medicine, and anti-worker (ask the coal miners). Is that what you think Hillary stands for? Or are you merely reacting to their gender?

Yes..I am scared.
Why?
Because I am white..
and I have white friends that I love..but
I also know white people I dislike.
I have black friends that I love..
but I also know black people I dislike.
This is true with just about every race and culture.
The good and bad.
But here's why I am scared..
Obama is setting a trend in this country even before he reachs office.
People versus people..and not because they are good or bad..but because they were born a different color.
And my true feelings are..
that this man..though he says he is for all Americans..
leans one way towards the white people when he needs the white vote..then leans another way in order to get the black vote.
He has not been truthful with anyone..black or white.
Obama can not be for all Americans..this was made evident when he refused to honor the flag and kept his hands in his pockets during the National Anthem.
To me..
the flag represents ALL races..
of soldiers that took their last breath on open battlefieds on foreign lands.
Blood spilled from the children of all cultures and backgrounds..as death..has no preference..nor does the grave.
The flag..
our country's symbol..
that represents everyone that ever fought and died for
freedom..
the same freedom..which Obama now uses to advance to the highest position represented by the flag..
He can not love America..
No..
because the flag is EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US..
The good and the bad..
Obama's skin color is not the problem..
Obama's motives are..
Obama is for Obama..
He dishonored the very basic thing which keeps us free.
The color of blood which stains.. red.. from every single American soldier.. spilled in every war.

HILLARY CLINTON CAN BEST WIN IN NOVEMBER:
It's time for everyone to face the truth. Barack Obama has no real chance of winning the national election in November at this time. His crushing defeat in Pennsylvania makes that fact crystal clear. His best, and only real chance of winning in November is on a ticket with Hillary Clinton as her VP.
Hillary Clinton seemed almost somber at her Pennsylvania victory speech. As if part of her was hoping Obama could have proved he had some chance of winning against the republican attack machine, and their unlimited money, and resources.
But it is absolutely essential that the democrats take back the Whitehouse in November. America, and the American people are in a very desperate condition now. And the whole World has been doing all that they can to help keep us propped up.
Hillary Clinton say's that the heat, and decisions in the Whitehouse are much tougher than the ones on the campaign trail. But I think Mr. Obama faces a test of whether he has what it takes to be a commander and chief by facing the difficult facts, and the truth before him. And by doing what is best for the American people by dropping out of the race, and offering his whole hearted assistance to Hillary Clinton to help her take back the Whitehouse for the American people, and the World.
Mr. Obama is a great speaker. And I am confident he can explain to the American people the need, and wisdom of such a personal sacrifice for them. It should be clear to everyone by now that Hillary Clinton is fighting her heart out for the American people. She has known for a long time that Mr. Obama can not win this November. You have to remember that the Clinton's have won the Whitehouse twice before. They know what it takes.
If Mr. Obama fails his test of commander and chief we can only hope that Hillary Clinton can continue her heroic fight for the American people. And that she prevails. She will need all the continual support and help we can give her. She may fight like a superhuman. But she is only human.
Sen. Hillary Clinton: "You know, more people have now voted for me than have voted for my opponent. In fact, I now have more votes than anybody has ever had in a primary contest for a nomination. And it's also clear that we've got nine more important contests to go."
Sincerely
Jacksmith... Working Class :-)

Anita, you're very right to be scared. Obama's rhetoric does NOT match his actions. Remember that his voting record (when he bothers to vote) shows him to be the most leftist senator in the US Senate. He's not at all interested in compromise with the minority party. His administration would be just as extreme as the Bush administration only in the opposite direction.
His rhetoric of division goes beyond black vs. white, too. Notice that he favors tax cuts for "working families" and prescribes tax increases for "the wealthiest Americans" yet never mentions where a high income begins. ALL voters should realize that if they had an income that exceeded $61,055 in 2005 then they were in the top 25 percent of taxpayers. When Barack Obama talks his class warfare, raise-taxes-on-those-fatcats spiel on the campaign trail, you all should know that every American that made made $62,000 is one of those fatcats that he just can't wait to soak.

Margaret Thatcher was a level headed, consistent, honest, hard nosed, and tough leader/visionary. Seems much more consistent with Obama. Clinton is a moody, inconsistent, dishonest, rude, and manipulative woman running for president. I would love to see woman in there like Thatcher, but as Bentsen said to Quayle regarding his comparison to Kennedy - To Clinton "Senator, your no Margaret Thatcher."

The whole of BRITIAN is hoping a Obama prevails. We can all remember Hillary Clinton, she was shopping in Harrods London, when the Northern Ireland peace talks were taking place . It was also reported she came under sniper fire on in the Perfume section of Harrods that day. Good luck Obama, the World needs you as a Leader.

Neither of these two has demonstrated leadership that would render them worthy to even sit at the hem of Baroness Thatcher's dress and learn the ins and outs of statecraft from one of the best to ever practice it LET ALONE be compared to the great lady, herself.

Jeff, You and Anita are right to be scared. Can you imagine how scary it will be for you when Obama wins and then fails to overthrow our government and turn America into a Marxist-Islamofacist dictatorship? Obama will be a very good president and that scares the pants off you Republican supporters. After four years of Obama, I expect the magnanimous Democratic Congress will be kind enough to put Republicans politicians on the endangered species list to protect them from extinction.

The fact that Hillary can only win with the help of republicans who are crossing over at Rush Limbaugh's bidding to cause chaos-- should be evidence enough that Clinton is doing damage to the party. What a joke this democracy is! Lets spend anotheer trillion dollars trying to export it with our guns!

The learning curve on both candidates is evening out.
This is only a beauty contest.
It's just the preliminaries.
Delegates and Superdelegates must WAIT and consider, based on the FACTS of the prior votes, the facts about the candidates---just who should be top o the ticket.
It ain't over yet.

Jeff it's not enough for you to support that PANDER BEAR John McCain, ya gotta rip on the one man who is capable of turning around America from all the damage the GOP has done the last few years. Barack Obama is the man for the job. Obama 2008. We don't need four more years of Bush's failed policy which is what you WILL GET with old man McBush!!! He is a lapdog for Dick Cheney and the corrupt war he and his sock-puppet GW started. One thing's for certain, we went to war for HALIBURTON. DICK CHENEY SON OF SATAN!!! p.s. McCain sold out years ago. He's a shadow of his former maverick self. The straight talk express is a joke.

What OBAMA brags about have never been delivered. Recently he is 100% negative attacking rather than proposing solutions.
He did what rhetorics may deliver, the rest has to be answered with facts. It is not that rosy.
Granted he has the black votes; almost all of them. It can't get any better. Hillary's support increases day by day. Independents and working class need a tough president and not a snob.

It's no time to run a rookie camp while people begin to starve and do not money to pay electricity bill.
Speeches won't give you but knowledge and toughness can. OBAMA does not fit in without a jacket. He just does not fit in. He is not flexible enough to real problems in life.
He is a weak mind. He even ask lobbyists to help him buy his dream house. He would be dragged into the REZKO scandal if he does not run for president.
His oratory skills is getting worse and worse. He lectures too much and has done so little.
It is not the time to provide on- the-job training for OBAMA & Co who are out-of-touch with the poor.
