The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Sen. Hillary Clinton, contending that she is running ahead of Sen. Barack Obama in the Democratic primary vote count - counting the disputed votes of Florida and Michigan - said today that she has "closed the gap'' with Obama in Indiana and North Carolina.

"This is going to be exciting tomorrow, because I started very far behind,'' Clinton said of Tuesday's primary elections this morning in an interview with CNN's John Roberts. "I think we've closed the gap.... Obviously I hope to do as well as possible.

"More people have voted for me,'' Clinton said of the long-contested Democratic primary season - reminded by Roberts that that count includes Michigan and Florida. "Those were real votes,'' Clinton replied. "The delegates haven't been decided. (But) the people have voted, that's a fact.''

Asked if winning Tuesday's primaries would cement her case that she should be the party's nominee, she said: "I've been making the case that I would be the stronger candidate and the better nominee against Sen. McCain... We have to follow the rules, until it's clear who the nominee is going to be.''

Clinton, who has campaigned lately on a summer gas-tax holiday, was asked in the interview from Greenville, N.C., if she will make that happen next summer - should gas prices still be high and should she be elected president.

"I'm sure gonna try,'' Clinton said, noting that her opponent opposes the tax break. "Sen. Obama doesn't want to give consumers a break, I do. I want the oil companies to pay the tax this summer out of their record profits.

"I think I have the responsible position to give people relief right now,'' Clinton said. "I think we can do both a short-term relief program and begin to implement my longer-term relief program... move people toward higher gas-mileage type cars.

She also was reminded that Robert Reich, labor secretary during President Bill Clinton's administration and a supporter of Obama now, had said this of the gas tax holiday: "It's stupid and it's dumb and I don't know why Hillary Clinton proposed it.''

She said: "Maybe we can educate him... I think if you look at all of the issues that I've taken on, that is what I am running for.... I am for keeping people in their homes... I'm for getting health care insurance for everyone... My opponent is in favor leaving people out.

Clinton was asked if she had "gone too far'' in saying that Iran could be "obliterated'' if it launched a nuclear attack against Israel. "No, I didn't,'' she said.

"We need to make it very clear, like we did during the Cold War, when thousands of missiles were pointed at us... that there is a price to be paid,'' she said. "When the question was asked, what would the United States do if Iran were to launch a nuclear attack on Israel... I said there would be massive retaliation.''

Does that mean nuclear?

"Massive retaliation... I think that speaks for itself,'' she said. "We have to say clearly to the Iranian people, there would be a very, very high price to pay.''

Obama, asked about this in an earlier interview today on CNN, said; "If Israel was attacked, we would respond forcefully... Using the word obliterate, however, is the kind of language we've heard George Bush use.''

If Iran attacked Israel with a nuclear weapon, would he use the U.S. nuclear arsenal? "I'm not going to speculate.''

The gas tax holiday is a give away to big oil. The consumer will see little or nothing and the price of fuel will more than likely go higher as a result.

My vote is or Obama.

Of course the gap is closing, as people begin to take a serious look at Obama and see just one more smooth-talking, lying self-serving pol.

Obama says he doesn't take money from the oil industry. He's lying, he does.

Obama tells us he doesn't take money from Lobbyists. He's lying, he does.

And agribusiness and pharmeceuticals and mining nuclear power and banking...

Obama tells us that "working people led me to politics." He's lying. He's Corporate America's lapdog.

By the way, have I mentioned Tony Rezko lately?

Regarding "We've Closed The Gap", Clinton offers some other truths:

Clinton Calls for "Bad Weather Holiday"

"When asked this morning by ABC News' George Stephanopoulos if she could name a single economist who backs her call for a gas tax holiday this summer, HRC said "I'm not going to put my lot in with economists.”

The gas tax holiday is...so economically stupid (it would increase demand for gas and cause prices to rise, eliminating any benefit to consumers while costing the Treasury more than $9 billion, and generate more pollution) and silly (even if she won, HRC won’t be president this summer) as to be worrisome. That HRC now says she doesn’t care that what economists think is even more troubling."

-Robert Reich, May 4, 2008

I know we've got those "intellectual", high-falutin', elitist meteorologists, those "forecasters" with their complicated charts and their mumbo-jumbo, their high fronts and their low fronts, their Doppler radars. But I've come to say that we're going to put an end to all of that.

When my daddy and I went out in the morning in (Scranton, Indianapolis, Durham, Hagåtña, Charlotte Amalie, San Juan), and he said "It's going to be a sunny day today", well, that was good enough for me.

And that's why, if you vote for me on (May 6, May 13, June 3), I will put into effect a "Bad Weather Holiday" running from the years 2009-2012--and potentially extendable.

That's right. We shouldn't have to eat our (hot dogs, barbecue, tamales, Chicken Estufao, Stewed oxtail) under rainy skies. We've had enough of going off to work in the (streets, sands, seas) of this most beautiful (state, territory) only to face a cold, cloudy day. We know what it's like to rest our weary bones after a hard day of labor in the nearest (local watering hole, locale taberna, berlina) only to step out into a stiff, tiring wind.

The Weather issue is very real to me, as I've been meeting people across this nation who (walk, drive, sail, ride ox before stewing tail) to work, and would save precious sums if they did not have to spend their hard earned money on "umbrellas" and "rain coats" and other high priced, high class items of the upper crust.

But I say: Let the 'Umbrella Lobby' take the brunt--not our hard working citizens. Oh, sure. I know elite opinion and so called "academic experts" say that my plan would cause 12 straight years of hail, swarms of ravenous locusts, and a vortex of hurricanes ranging from the Mideast to the West Coast.

But I don't put stock in experts. And neither should you. And that's why you should vote for me on (May 6, May 13, June 3).

hi bill

It's interesting that Hillary can include genocide as one of her campaign promises and the press won't hold her feet to the fires for that. I guess a crazy preacher is more important than killing innocent women and children. I'm just thankful Hillary will never be president.

How can the votes be "real" when the elections weren't?

And how did Chelsea Clinton (born c. 1980) become so familiar with a TV star--Donna Reed, whose show ended in 1966--that Chelsea would, according to her mother's comments yesterday, refer to Reed as her "second mother"? Even if the story had a shred of truth, the only salient point would be that Clinton abandoned her only child to TV reruns far too often.

Hillary Clinton will say or do ANYTHING to get elected.

We've already had a few presidents like that. They didn't work out very well. Let's try something different this time.

Regarding the so-called gas tax holiday, I wish Senator Clinton would do three things:

1. Give us the names of economists who support her idea. (All of us have read about respected economists, including Clinton Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who called it "stupid," who have clearly stated that the gas tax holiday would have no measurable impact on the economy. Where are those who support Senator Clinton's idea?)

2. Tell us the estimated dollar amount that the gas tax holiday would put in the pocket of the average motorist. I've heard it's a paltry $28, spread out over three months.

3. Tell us how you would guarantee that Big Oil would not respond by simply raising prices and pocketing the windfall from the gas tax holiday. Is she advocating federal price controls on gasoline? I can't imagine her (or any candidate other than Ralph Nader) having the backbone to do that.

Seems to me that this so-called gas tax holiday is little more than a political ploy that counts on voters being unthinking dopes. It is the public policy equivalent of waving hot pancakes and syrup under the nose of Homer Simpson.

The only gap Senator Clinton closed was probably the Gap store in your neighborhood, with her support and push for NAFTA!! Don't forget, she was President Clinton's adviser when that treaty was pushed through, with the White House's support, vigorous support!! I hope all of the working class and middle class workers remember that when they go into vote. If they do, I'm sure they will vote for Senator Obama, who wasn't part of the Clintons " vigorous " support apparatus!!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW

Obama's refusal to consider lifting the gas tax for the summer shows his elitist attitude, lack of consideration for the middle and lower income families that are struggling every day just to put food on the table. Maybe $50 to $70 isn't important to him, but to some people it will mean that their children get to eat a couple days without giving up something else. Obama, selfish, elitist, not for the blue collar workers of America. Hillary's plan would make the oil companies pay for the loss of revenue. Everyone is saying that the money is intended for the infrastructure, but I don't see anything being done at this time. Use a winfall tax on the oil companies to pay for the infrastructure. Have out "lame" duck government investigate the oil companies, and this time do a good job, we all know there is illegal things going on for the oil companies to be making such large profits every year.

thank GOD for Hillary. she seems to be the only one who understands what is going on. Hillary Clinton the iron lady like margaret thatcher before her. America would be well advised to elect Hillary so we can finally win the war.

As usual, I agree with Don Fitzgerald!!!!!!

What a hoax. How in the world can she be Rocky, when Obama is someone NOBODY knows. Bill Richardson has said that the Clintons feel like they are already in the whitehouse, and Barack is simply trying to get her and bill out. Barack is the only underdog in this election. EVEN numbscull president Bush thought LIARY was the next president.

You never tell someone you are going to obliterate them, you show them.

Hillary Clinton, you’re no good
Barack will beat you, like he should
But to save the country from liberal pain
Do what’s right…vote McCain!

I agree with McCain's original proposal for the tax relief for the summer and admire Hillary for going along with it. Mr. Obama $28 may not mean much to you but to a lot of people its foods on the table rather than in their tanks but what would you know about that sitting on your throne.

Not sure if Hillary closed the gap among Democrats, but she's now a far stronger candidate nationally against McCain. This means the Democrats will almost certainly nominate Obama, as the Dems love to pick vulnerable liberals that lose in November. The GOP will jam Rev. Wright down Obama's throat, and millions of annoyed white swing voters will vote for McCain.

se because the GOP will jam Rev. Wright down his throat, and millions of pissed off white swing voters will vote on that basis.

I hope Obama can hold on and get the nomination so we resoundly defeat this astounding hack now. Otherwise we will have to suffer this smug con man coming back year after year after year trying to smirk and flirt his way into the presidency. Nobama. Not now. Not ever.

Democrats are slowly waking up to the fact that their nominee is an old school Black Liberation Theologist who is no more electable than a Klansman would be. Obama duped you, folks.

Obama was with the radical left for 20 years and now has broken with Rev. Wright. Hillary stands for the majority with the creativity of ideas, and the passion, the will and the knowhow to come up with solutions for our problems. GO HILLARY!

GO Hillary!

Never give up!

You've got the "testicular fortitude"; Sen. Obama does not.

Oh, I see the professional bloggers are at work, at least the last seven or eight entries. All of your misleading statements, false statements and half-truths will not get your candidate any closer to the prize, because she has misrepresented herself. She has attempted to damage a fellow Democrat and all she got for that was the love and respect of the bankrupt Republicans!! I hope she can be happy with that!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

When is Hillary going to introduce her Gas tax legislation in the Senate? If this is supposed to be in place for the summer she better do it soon. Unless it's just a bit of meaningless political rhetoric that she has no intention of following through on that she's thrown out there as a political ploy to fool the gullible.

It's pander until there's legislation. Nothing more.

Come on - she lost this election in February. Statistically, she has ZERO chance of winning this. Her trying to ramrod herself into office means that she will not be chosen for VP and will never have another serious chance. If she had bowed in Feb/March she might still have a political career.

Anyone who understands anything about the simplest economics KNOWS that lower price will drive UP demand, which in turn will drive up the price, and instead of it being tabbed for infrastructure/taxes it will go right into the pocket of the oil companies.

If $25 or $30 over the course of three months is going to make that big a deal to so many people, it is high time, then, that these people cut down on their driving. Drive 80 miles less over the course of three or four months and you've saved your 25 dollars. That's 20 miles less a month.

Walk to the grocery store or your aunt's house or the library--and not only will you be saving money, you'll be losing weight.

The gas tax relief plan is a joke. If anything we should be RAISING the tax to discourage driving and push down demand.

CLOSED THE GAP ? NOT HILLARY'S CREDIBILTY GAP WHICH WILL NEVER RECOVER

it just baffles me how anybody could stand to listen to hillary. when will people start noticing real change when they hear it?!!! everyone says they want change, and then they hear hillary and mccain, the same CRAP we get every four years, and they just fall for it again. please, PLEASE take a step back people and realize there's finally somebody alive who actually has views and is born to do this and lead. i just wish that anybody who is talking smack about obama and citing positives for mccain and hillary would PLEASE stop claiming that they're FOR change in politics. I'm sorry but you're falling for the same crap you've fallen for for years and years and years now. wake up and don't waste this opportunity that comes MAYBE twice a century.

How can Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton effectively run the country as president when she exaggerates the truth and doesn't seem to understand the basic elements of the Democratic primary vote: YOU CAN NOT COUNT THE "DISPUTED" VOTES OF FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN!!!

I am truly concerned about Mrs. Clinton's ability to be honest. For example, consider how she constantly alludes that she is running ahead of the Democratic primary votes when she isn't; how she exaggerated her role in the bipartisan health bill, "State Children's Health Insurance Program or SCHIP," when lawmakers from both parties acknowledge that Senators Ted Kennedy and Orrin Hatch and others in Congress spearheaded that bill; and how she misspoke FOUR times about dodging sniper fire during her Bosnia trip! If Mrs. Clinton blamed that misquote on being a "misstatement," I doubt seriously if she would wake up at 3:00 AM in the morning and be ready to make a sound, "presidential" decision for America!

Yes, Mrs. Clinton has certainly closed the gap! SHE CAN'T BE TRUSTED TO TELL THE TRUTH. On the other hand, MR. BARACK OBAMA CAN BE TRUSTED TO TELL THE TRUTH!!!

Florida's election was real and should be counted. Michigan wasn't.

What happens if Puerto Rico gives Hillary as 300,000 vote margin? Gonna just ignore them? That'll sure help win back the Latino vote for Obama in the fall.

The Florida and Michigan votes were certified by each state's Secretary of State. Other candidates were on the ballots, as were referendum measures, and those candidates officially "won" the vote. That is why Clinton is correct in saying that the votes were valid. This is certainly true in FL. In MI, Obama voluntarily took his name off the ballot as a political ploy, yet campaigned for his supporters to vote "uncommitted", which millions did, so though less "valid" than FL, the MI votes deserve some recognition, too. And let's not forget that both states had plans for a revote but Obama's lawyers made sure that didn't happen.

It is pretty sad that the only way the Democratic frontrunner Obama can win is to disenfranchise million of voters in both Florida and Mich. The party that said every vote counts in 2000 now is saying that they dont. Obama played a huge role in keeping those 2 states from voting again. He will pay dearly for it in Nov when he loses both states and watches McCain waltz into the whitehouse against an unelectable general election candidate in Obama. The 2 most important swing states are Ohio and Florida and Obama can not win either. NH and PA are also going to go for McCain. McCain winning will be good though because the country works best when 1 party controls the Congress and the other controls the whitehouse. The best presidents have been Clinton and Reagen who had the other party ruling the Congress. The 2 worst presidents were Carter and Bush who had control of both the Whitehouse and Congress.

We already have a President that refuses to listen to experts in their field - do we really need another one? Hillary can't name a single economist that supports her gas tax plan because there aren't any - not even the economists that clamor for lower taxes in general support her plan.

Hillary say's she wants to make the oil companies pay the tax instead - and they'll just pass that cost right along to us - so her "gas tax holiday" won't result in a dimes worth of savings for the consumer.

Haven't we had enough of liars in the White House?

The voters of Michigan and Florida screwed themselves. An intraprty primary must play by the party rules. If the HSU was on the other foot, Clinton would fight to the Convention floor to keep FL and MI from participating.
Her imperial campaign has tanked. No matter the snipers or halucinatory visions of "diplomacy", she has nothing but lies and a scuzzy past to offer the American voter.
Her only hope in Indiana and North Carolina lies in her bid to stir up fears of a Black Man in the White House! This time, her red neck strategy will not work.
I'm sure that even with out the White House cash cow, she and her disbarred semi spouse will find a way to keep the undocumented funds flowing into their foundations

The Bunkers and the Caveman types have closed the gap and support the Clinton Empire. The Elite team of attack dogs will go to no end to gitter done.

Clinton is such a liar, she was never far behind in INdiana, she was always ahead by a large margin in Indiana.

How can a summer gas tax relief be anything other than a step in the wrong direction? Instead of giving everyone another $28, why not invest it all in something that'll save us all more money in the long run and could help the environment also? I bet any numbskull could save $28 in gas in a summer if they'd just accelerate a little slower. Or how about this? Don't drive your car when you have no reason to.

It's sadly ironic how the Clintons can start a smear campaign against Obama, stand back and watch his numbers plummet as the media embraces their attack, then turn around and announce they have closed the gap. If this isn't the devil himself nothing is, and it is because of this SHE WILL NOT WIN because evil is as evil does and it will not triumph over the good! Go Obama go!!!!

Senator Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic party nominee for the 2008 USA Presidency, unless Senator Barrack Obmama becomes more aggressive and dmenads that Howard Deen, the DNC Chariman forces Senator Hillary Clinton to step aside since she can't win the delegate count race.

Who cares what she says? She's counting votes that the DNC are not, that right there makes her sound foolish. Add to the fact that Obama's name wasn't even on the MI ballot! How cuold anyone think those votes should be counted? Don't blame the candidates for following the rules, blame the state's for holding the primaries early.

If anything he closed the gap on her. Specifically in PA, because she was polling over 20 points higher than him a month before the primary... and he cut that in half. The Indiana polls have always shown this one to be close... so as usual Hilary has us scratching our heads with her straw man arguments.... you know who was good at those? BUSH!

Is the "gas tax holiday" simply a politically pandering gimmick - or a real offer of assistance?

Actually, I think it's both. Of course it’s a gimmick; it is not a long term solution, merely a quick fix that costs later. But you have to ask how many of us use credit cards for the same reason?

If you went to bed at night with an empty fridge and an empty gas tank - hoping to fill both the next day, and woke up the following morning to discover that gas had gone down by 25-30 cents per gallon; would you complain about the pandering short term fix - or revel in the extra pound of meat you could put on the table for dinner with the difference?

Being a typical (read that as NOT RICH) American - personally, I would thank my lucky stars for the break, and be happy for the rest of the week in the knowledge that my dollar went a littler further than the week before.

It's hard to face the reality of a world suddenly more expensive with no apparent reason and no-one except the universal “them” that you can blame it on. This means that even a $3 cheaper tank of gas makes your day a littler brighter.

Obama wants to point out that for the "average" consumer, it will only make a $30 difference for the summer - what he is really saying is that $30 means nothing to him. I have seen people drive an extra 5-10 miles to go to a gas station they know is a few cents lower than the closer one or go get cash from an ATM to get cheaper gas at the cash-only station - even though the extra gas to get there or the ATM fee costs as much as the difference in price - they do it anyway. They do it because they feel that are getting taken advantage of - and that dollar they pay extra for the closer station is coming out of their groceries, or their dinner out.

If you buy an item at the store with cash for $20, it costs you $20. Buy that same item on a credit card, it may well cost you $25 in the long term, but you do it to stretch your "now" dollar, because most people live now, and pay later.

A great number of articles have been written about how the average American's savings is much lower, and their credit debt much higher than in previous times. This is the new trend of American consumerism that a chiding Obama will turn away from the vote with his elitist and out of touch rhetoric.

We use credit cards. We buy things on payment systems. We “rent-to-own”. We have little to no savings and live from paycheck to paycheck. Welcome to America.

I'm not saying that Clinton or McCain would be any better in the White House, but at least they understand that to most of us - $30 is $30. The difference of $3 on a fill-up can mean the difference between macaroni and cheese, or stove-top lasagna for dinner that night to a lot of budgets.

I understand that this might seem selfish or short-sighted to someone who makes the above average income, but to the (vast majority) of the rest of us; give me a little, and I'll give you a lot. We work hard for what little we have, and are not too proud to take a little “political-pandering” if it helps our family meet this day's needs.

I don’t have a chauffer, maid, nanny and assistant. I don't send my children to private schools. I work hard and come home every day tired but grateful that I'm still working, and looking forward to the hugs from my kids. I sit down and help them with their homework even if what my body would really like is a nap. I'm your average Joe, just another cog in the machine, but I like to think I make a difference in my own small way, and I find the suggestion that $30 is nothing offensive.

Call me small-minded, but like a lot of other American voting public, I don't just listen to the things the politicians say - I hear the way they say it. I read the subtext, and listen carefully to what they imply or inadvertently let loose to reveal what they really think. I'm not interested in the 20-second sound bite, or the carefully orchestrated media dance of their advertising campaign. I want to know how they feel about "my kind" - the average Joe or Jane.
Given the opportunity to craft a careful message, most survey respondents would tell you they vote their conscience, weighing all the options giving equal measure to all participants and reaching a conclusion based on evidence. The reality is - we vote our hearts, with hope that the “new boss won't be the same as the old boss”; praying that this time the government will get it right, and be "of the people, by the people and for the people" instead of "of the politically-connected, by the wealthy, for the special interest groups". We vote for the lion among the lambs hoping they have the strength to push back, and will be willing to answer to the people instead of their cronies.

I can't say that any among the current batch of candidates will break the mold and try always to do the right thing, but I can say that Obama has demonstrated that he doesn’t appear to say what he really believes, and chooses his words to inspire, rather than simply acting on those spoken convictions. If you want the people to follow – LEAD. Be the example you want the people to follow. Don’t look down your chauffer driven hood at what you just ran over to see the people, be one of them. Obama may be a great orator, and even a great man - but I don't believe he has the strength to be a great leader. Maybe in a few more years – we’ll see.

He condemns the gas tax holiday as pandering, while trying to distance himself from the corruption of his neighbor and long-time business associate in Chicago. He talks of post-racial politics and his religious convictions, while condemning his long-time friend and religious councilor who preaches racial intolerance and conspiracy theories. He talks of understanding the plight of the average American while accusing them of “clinging” to “guns and religion”. He promises to re-write NAFTA and speaks the rhetoric of “protectionism” – while assuring the Canadians that it’s just “politics as usual” and doesn’t mean anything.

Obama is not the next John F. Kennedy. He was one of a kind, not to be repeated in this lifetime. Like many other singular souls too many to list, the comparisons fall short of the man, and cannot even aspire to the memory. The liking of one to the other merely cheapens both.

I would rather have one singular person of strength and hope to lead the next administration, than a thousand copies of a man long gone.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer someone ready to stand tall in this day and age – and cry out to the world “WE ARE AMERICANS – AND WE WILL NOT FALL FURTHER!” The Constitution was written, and the Bill of Rights and subsequent amendments crafted to ensure our unity, strength and protections from all enemies, including and over-intrusive government as well as the extremists who would like us to cower in the dark. We have to find a balance that protects our freedoms and our lives, and I look to the next president to right the wrongs of the last administration, and set us back on the path of international leadership instead of unilateral intimidation.

Again I ask; Is the "gas tax holiday" simply a politically pandering gimmick - or a real offer of assistance? More importantly, does it really matter to the “average American”?

The few cents per gallon itself is less important than the fact that two of the candidates understand that the main reason that idea resonates with so many of us, isn’t about the $30 – it’s about the recognition that even that amount makes a difference.

Quit talking down to us. Quit lecturing us about how we should be better. Quit admonishing us to get over our petty selfish concerns and look to the betterment of all. If we don’t have the resources to change our lives in a fundamental way that improves our own lot as well as our family’s, then all your orations do is offer the morphine of “Hope for Change” to the addicts of socialism, rather than the strength to actually change the way our government works.

“Average Joe”

Yes, when Carter failed to get out hostages released. Reagan said he would be use force. The day he was elected IRAN released them. Hillary is tough.You have to be tough.Obama is a Carter. I will talk to them first. Hillary is right with gas tax for farmers and truckers who use allot now and make the oil companies pay. They are in business to make money and they will still.

Not counting 2.3 million votes would undermine the voice of America. We are the largest democracy in the world. To even insinuate that those votes do not count is crucifying our own self interests as a country. For one candidate "obama" to suggest that he does not want to count these votes is unamerican. And he seems to be fitting into a pattern that suggests he may not have all Americans interests at heart. His comments against the tax break for summer does not make any sense considering he voted for a similar measure in the Illinois Senate 3 times. So to me he is saying all Americans don't deserve this break just people from his state. That is an elite attitude. Saving even as little as 20 bucks would make a difference in whether someone goes hungry or has diapers for their child or a much needed prescription. So to all those who disagree with Hillary Shame On You. Come walk in another's shoes and see how much of a difference 70 dollars or more a month makes. Hillary Clinton shows more passion and respect to those who are less fortunate than she or Obama. We need a President for the People of this country not a hypocrite for the yuppie circle. Vote for Hillary Clinton.

Hillary "Bet on 8 Belles" Clinton will follow her mascot... Run hard, finish 2nd and then get put out of her misery.

Sure would be nice if people would use facts to support thier staements. Please detail from where you draw your information when you are attacking a candidates position. Also it would be cool if positions and ot people were being confronted.

First off any financial relief won't happen until AFTER the general election. I can understand why people would think suspending the federal gas tax for the summer is a good thing. That’s because they are confronted with rising gas prices every day at the pump. Now lets see who is REALLY in touch with the working class, NEXT summer Hillary’s tax-vacation will save you $0.18 cents per gallon, assuming 155 gallons for the 3 months average for Americans, that is a $28 savings in your wallet as a best case scenario. Barrack announced his $1000 stimulus package for the lower and middle class.
With the $1000 you could fill up your gas tank for the entire summer (assuming next summer the price is $4.50) and still have $300 in cash left over. Seems to me Barrack understands what really would make a difference to the working class after all.

The bottom line, Obama may get the nominee, but he will never be President. Shame on the DNC and Howard Dean for the mess they made of the entire political system. The Democratic Party will never be the same. More Democrats are shifting to independent, to disenfranchize the voters of Michigan and Florida with your stupid rules ,is the main reason. The voters didn't ask for the mess, but you gave it to them. Obama knew very well what he was doing leaving his name off the ballot in Michigan, after is speech at the Economic Club in Detroit , he knew he would not get the votes. Having his name off the ballot at the end caused more problems for who ever was against him it could have been Edwards and not Clinton.

Goodbye Hillary. See you back in the Senate. Obama!!! The man for the job in 2008.

You people who talk to Hillary and call her names, you do realize that she doesn't read these comments. I think she has something better to do, like get ready to be president. So are you just satisfying your own wierd pleasures with these comments? And those of us who are backing Hillary, well we are amused at your stupidity to be carrying on a conversation with someone who isn't listening.

Gap? What gap? Clinton never had a gap in Indiana-- she has always been ahead. What a liar.

WE NEED SOMEONE ELSE TO TRY.
someone who will insist those studies be audited. when it comes to oil companies, the very people to do the study are partisan with an agenda...........she wants to change that.

This woman has vision..........let her lay into the situation.
She has already said she is prepared to give $10,000 in one form or another to anyone purchasing Hybrid cars, e.g.,
Why hasnt anyone mentioned the Energy Traders until she stepped in? do you really think they didnt know these guys fight to better their commissions and the bottom line for their clients?

Of course they did........they just didnt care. SHE DOES.
THIS WOMAN IS THE DIFFERENCE AMERICA HAS BEEN WAITING FOR..........SHE'S MORE THAN WORDS, SHE HAS PLANS...........

for all the whining obama has done he has yet to come up with any solutions of his own.........McCain wants a gas holiday but he has no follo-thru on how he intends to offset it.

give the Lady the Ball! She's THE NATURAL

Okay, let's just look at it mathematically. The proposal, IF it could be pushed through congress in 3 weeks, would be to cut this from Memorial day to Labor Day - which is considered the summer season for gas situations.

At best, that is 14 weeks. If the average car has a 14 gallon tank and you fill it up completely every time, you will save $2.59 per full tank. That is the reduction of $0.185 that is the gas tax.

If you fill up 1 time per week, you save $36.26 over the 14 weeks. If you fill up 2 times per week, you'd save about $72.50 in 14 weeks. That averages to $5 per week.

For most people, they could cut out ONE, maybe 2 things in their lives that is unnecessary and could save $5 / week. Just cutting back on electricity usage or water usage coudl easily save that kind of money on utility bills, or even more if done properly.

This might seem like a big deal for the poorer section of America. I know any money saved is good, but there is NO rules being proposed that say a gas station has to lower it's prices. The oil companies wouldnt have to drop prices either. Any new taxes they have to pay would be passed on and you can believe that they would pass it on in higher prices to the buyers and the buyers would pass it on to the customer.

Dont kid yourself that the price would drop by 18.5 cents.

You Ain't seen Nothing Yet! Hillary is not a saint! Electable?

But we did. Here’s an excerpt from the TiM Bulletin 96-04, Apr. 13, 1996, whose title was "Ayatollah Klintomeini." The piece was actually about how the Clinton administration’s pro-Islamic foreign policy is aimed at destroying both Russia and Europe. But it also contained the following interesting episode about Hillary:
"I have to admit that a good deal of what my husband and I have learned (about Islam) has come from my daughter," said Hillary Clinton, addressing the members of the American Muslim Council (AMC) at the first-ever White House celebration of Eid al-Fitr (a Muslim religious holiday) on February 20, 1996. "(As) some of you who are our friends know, she (Chelsea) took a course last year in Islamic history."
Chelsea has been educating her parents about Islam ever since, the First Lady explained. As she accepted the two AMC gifts of Qur’an, the Muslim holy book, Mrs. Clinton said: "I am honored to have these gifts... one for my husband, and one for me, as Chelsea already has her copy."
Meanwhile, Steven Emerson, producer of the PBS documentary, "Jihad in America," said in his Wall Street Journal OpEd column, published on March 13, 1996, that "AMC is a radical group that supports radical Islamic terrorist movements."
In other words, while Islamic terrorists blow up the World Trade Center, for example, not to mention their hijacking, killing and maiming of Americans overseas, the Clinton family revels in celebrating Islam at the White House."

~~~~~~~~~~~in my opinion HILLARY IS ALREADY A WINNER NO MATER WHAT HAPPENS.
IN MY OPINION, obama is already a loser no matter what happens.
the world has seen them both and we all know half the votes obama has he received them fraudulently and without the benefit of MILLIONS denied in Mi, and FL
The gas tax is a total canard.
Obama 2008
Unfortunately, she has not closed the gap.
Her mouth is still open.
Go Obama!!
Hillary Rodham Clinton, Mr. Obama’s rival for the Democratic nomination, suggested that she might also support ending the union’s consent decree with the federal government when she spoke to the Teamsters’ general executive board last year.
“You can’t go around dragging the ball and the chain of the past,” Mrs. Clinton said on that occasion — the March 27, 2007, meeting of the board — according to an audio tape that the union made available. “And I think that’s true for anybody, any organization, any individual,” she continued. “And so I would be very open to looking at that, and to saying, ‘What are we trying to accomplish here?’ and see what the answers were. At some point, you turn the page and go on.”
Bret Caldwell, the communications director for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, said there was “no link whatsoever” between his union’s endorsement of Mr. Obama and the candidate’s statements about federal supervision.
This is very interesting.
Obama don't want create one immediately help for poor people.
Obama don't want to be clear with Iran, if Iran attack Israel his answer is: "I'm not going to speculate.''
Obama is loss, and maybe for Obama- support it's impossible accept the reality, relationship (24 years) with his Pastor, mentor and spiritual guide is the end for his candidature for president
Democrats will need win, and not will lose.
Obama is synonymous of LOSE.
Hillary is strong, and I know who is she.
More American people doubts of Obama, and anyone don't know Who is really Obama? what is your real thoughts?
Go Hillary!!!
obama u tried to cover up who you really are and yo u ALLLLLMOST did.
you are out of here barack due to the CONTENT OF YOUR CHARACTER.....nothing else...be a man and suck it up, regroup to try again in 8 years....hopefully you will have leared some major lessons and your motto will he be, EXPERIENCE.
Hopefully we'll clode the book on the Democratic primary tomorrow. God willing Barack Obama will win the nomination that so many have tried to steal through demonizing him in the press. He would make an eloquent spokesman for change in America!
Barack Obama in 2008.
the Tim Russert Meet the Press interview only re-confirmed obamas inability to be president.
he bases his opposiiton of Hillary's gas tax on his own failure to do it in Chicago.
by doing so he only highlighted that he had no PLAN TO MAKE IT A SUCCESS.
Clinton has already said she intends to investigate why the prices are so high and to hold those responsible accountable for using the ENRON loophole. She recognizes the gas prices have more to do with Energy Traders than the Oil companies themselves, altho they too are partly to blame.
Clinton is bringing things to light to the public that were before undisclosed and you can see more clearly why so many want to shut her down. SHE'S COMING GUNNING FOR ALL THESE LARGE CORPORATIONS AND THEY KNOW SHE MEANS BUSINESS.
Clinton recognizes that if your cant afford the gas, you certainly cant get from under to BUY that Hybrid that might make a diference. She has proposed a $10,000 discount for anyone buying a Hybrid.
this woman is not fluff.... she's on top of things with clear vision. and she's anxious to show america we can be so much better with just the right person behind the wheel.
