by Jill Zuckman

In another indication that the distress over Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's brain tumor spans the political spectrum, former First Lady Nancy Reagan issued her own statement this evening about his condition:

Los Angeles, California - I was so very sad today when I heard the reports that Senator Edward Kennedy has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. We have always been good friends, and he and his family are all in my prayers.

Ted has proven himself to be a fighter over the years on a number of fronts, and I know he will be courageous and strong in this battle as well. As they have done at so many other difficult moments in their lives, I'm certain that the entire Kennedy family has gathered together to give each other strength. My heart goes out to all of them at this time

Give it up for Mrs. Reagan - she's a class act.
