Obama to Tenn. GOP: Lay off my wife: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Christi Parsons

Barack Obama said in an interview aired today that Republicans should leave his wife alone and confine their criticism to him and his policies.

"If they think they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful," he said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America." "Because that I find unacceptable."

Obama was talking about a web video produced by the Tennessee Republican Party last week that featured a remark she made back in February.

Critics claimed that Michelle Obama was being unpatriotic when she said, "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm proud of my country."

"Michelle is the most honest, the best person I know," Obama said "She is one of the most caring people I know. She loves this country . . . And for them to try to distort or to play snippets of her remarks in ways that are unflattering to her, I think, is just low-class."

Michelle Obama was present for the interview and said she thinks Americans are ready to focus on issues and not on things "that have nothing to do with making people's lives better."

The candidate then jumped in to add, "But I also think these folks should lay off my wife. All right? Just in case they're watching."

Again, I guess the truth hurts. Michelle Obama aspires to be the First Lady. If she never felt proud of her country before, then that is a legit issue.
But I would think that when Michelle was promoted from an $80,000 a year job to a $350,000 a year job (conventiently after the election of her husband as a U.S. senator) that that moment would have been a proud one. Perhaps, the senator' wife was not proud because maybe she knows she didn't deserve it???

Since when is a potential first lady off limits? Barack starting to show his Marxist colors.

How is this a legit issue? Where do I find Michelle's name on the ballot?
And how does a pay raise translate in to pride in one's country?
When you think this way, it's hard not to have pride in anything whatsoever. A real discriminating taste!

Scarzo...You think a first lady sits around and bakes cookies?

two observations -
1) if obama is going to use his wife as a campaigning tool, he can't expect her to be insulated from scrutiny. if he doesn't want anyone to say anything about her, she should stop making public appearances.
2) that said, anyone who thinks her comment is somehow indicative of her "love" for this country or somehow lessens obama's ability to govern (including you, johnny d) is an idiot. "patriotism" is such a silly argument that it's laughable. who would put themselves and their families through the intense rigors of a presidential campaign if they didn't love this country? what are people worried about ... that they secretly hate america and are trying to bring it down from the inside? it's ludicrous that this is an issue.

that's why he should let the GOP run those ads ... they're absurd on their face, and just goes to show how empty and hollow the GOP's b.s. arguments are. totally insipid.

They go after his preacher, his wife, his neighbors, some guy he sat on a board with a few years back, his lapel accessories...

Republicans and McCain fans, this should be really alarming to you. If this is the best they can come up with to go after him on, you're in big trouble in the fall.

When is Cindy McCain going to stop hiding her tax returns? If the First Lady is open game, and that important, the people deserve to know hat she's hiding. Is she taking money from the lobbyists who swarm around her husband? What does she have to hide?

Idf we're going to talk about First Ladies, lets talk about them. Let's get to the real issues.

This from the "sweetie" who once complained that Hillary Clinton was "throwing the china at me."

"Since when is a potential first lady off limits? Barack starting to show his Marxist colors."

RCK - Do you use madlibs to put together your posts? What the heck does defending his wife have to do with Marxism? Or are you like that Republican radio guy who shouted appeasement a hundred times but didn't actually know what the word meant?

Please do encourage the GOP to make Obama's wife their big campaign issue. I can't think of a better way to convince voters that they are despicable and have absolutely nothing worthwhile or constructive to say. McBush is going to lose big because he can't bear to separate himself from Bush and the GOP.

Let's not forget the Republicans attacked President Clinton's wife and child during his administration. The party is despicable.

Yes, they should leave Michelle Obama alone, but most definitely on this issue.

This story was a terminally ill horse to start with, and now that it has died, they're beating it relentlessly. I guess it's because they don't have anything better to use against her. Poor them.

The most interesting part of the 'proud' story was Barbie McCain's need, after not uttering a word, to jump up and proclaim her never ending pride in the USA.

She should be proud.

If you're going to go after Michelle, do it for something real, not one sentence from one speech that she fully explained afterward.

This is the guy who flipped off Hillary.
I'll bet the Tennessee Republicans are shaking in their boots now.

She accompaines him at his rally's because she is supportive. Lets focus on the real issues and steer clear of the low blowing on Obamas wife. real issue of course being http://www.obamarocks08.com

fontapa - He's a Marxist for more than one reason, but in this instance, he's not defending his wife, he's telling everybody else that they're not allowed to speak ill of her or it's off to the gulags.

"fontapa - He's a Marxist for more than one reason, but in this instance, he's not defending his wife, he's telling everybody else that they're not allowed to speak ill of her or it's off to the gulags."

So your answer is you don't have the first clue what Marxism is beyond some movie cliche about repression?

Thanks for clarifying. Please, resume posting nosequiters with words like Marxist, Communist, Appeaser, and so on. I'm sure the fact that you don't know what they mean or care won't dilute your points in the slightest.

Please, explain to me, in a few words you do know the meaning of, how saying something disgusts you becomes a plan to ammend the constitution and jail your detractors?

Then ask her to quit yapping. She can't get out there and say anything she wants to say, without being replied to and her statements commented on.

Looks like RCK didn't get Karl Rove's memo. Calling Democrats Liberal, Communists, or Marxists is a dog that won't hunt this election cycle. You have to come up with reasons why we should vote for Republicans. I know it's tough but at least give it a try. OK buddy?

Let the GOPer's slam Michelle Obama all they want and then we can bring up the fact that Cindy McCain got busted for stealing drugs from a charity that she was running.

She is totally fair game. When the GOPs' candidate has no merits to run on, it is their right to argue the insane issues like flag pins and other nonsense. I guess if I were desperate, I would choose something as stupid as this. I just hope they wouldn't turn this around and look closely at the GOPs' candidates' wife.

As Harry Truman used to say If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen,". B Hussein Obama a leftist elitist socialist is perplexed because the Tennessee GOP is talking about his wife.
So, Obama get out of the race and we will stop criticizing you.. Who do you think you are you pointed headed intellectual with an avant garde air Come down to earth Obama.
Also, on the Drudge Report today is a story that Obama says we can't drive our SUVs and keep our thermostats at 72 degrees and eat all we want and expect other countries to take it. Say what Obama we live in America you leftist socialist and we will live in a free society without jerks like you being our nanny. No other countries have any rights over us America is a sovreign nation.
Obama follows his mentor Jimma Carter whose energy policy was put on a sweater and turn down the thermostat, ration gas and oil, declare an oil embargo , and stop gas stations from being open on Sundays. Obama this is Soviet style politics.
Wakeup America you sure you want this loony tune running our country with his wife who can't shut up either.
Jerry White, Springfield, IL

If Michelle is fair game, let's have a grand discussion of Barbie McCain's reticence to produce her tax records, let's delve into her drug abuse and theft of drugs from her employer, the adultery issue regarding her hookup with McBush before his divorce, etc., etc. I have a feeling Johnnie does not want to have that discussion, so please GOP, let it all hang out and please limit the whining when Barbie is asked to be forthcoming about her personal life, shall we?

Who in the heck does Obama think he is? If elected, his wife will be a representative of the US whether he wants to accept the truth or not! Sorry, bub, but she is part of the package and since she is not proud of the US--U KNOW WHERE YOU BOTH CAN GO!

Here's a reason to vote for Republicans. They're not liberals that want to take money from people who work hard to earn it and redistribute it to those who don't. We'll call this "new age utopia," because it's easier for the masses (like Jackson & fontapa) to go along when it sounds pleasant. Sort of like "planned parenthood" (means killing babies) and "insurgent" (means terrorist/suicide bomber).

Jerry White,
Quoting Harry Truman? Truman was well known for going after anyone that attacked or threatened his family, including the KKK.

If you're going to put yourself out in the public spotlight as Ms Obama does, then you have to expect that you'll be held accountable for your statements and actions. Same goes for Bill Clinton.

Cindy McCain has not taken such a role and has, as far as I can tell, stayed in the background. Does it mean she has to? Absolutely not, but having made that choice, she should be treated differently.

The Obamas once again playing the card they play so well, the victim card which then includes the race card with them because they are black. I used to think Obama was a decent guy but he is pathetic.

Barack Obama's campaign slogan should be changed to "How Dare Anyone Ask Me A Question..............IDIOTS!" You can tell they spent their time around elitist crowds with the way they look down on anyone that dares to ask them questions based on their own words or point out their hypocrisy. Maybe he learned this from Daley and Blago?

If you are dumb enough to vote for a man that goes to a church for 20 years and didn't hear anything his pastor said but is able to hear his name in a speech by Bush in Israel when his name wasn't even mentioned, you need to have your head checked. This guy is a charlatan and a cry baby!! If he wins he should be called Whiner in Chief!

The Audacity of Choke tour continues!

Who in the heck does Obama think he is? If elected, his wife will be a representative of the US whether he wants to accept the truth or not! Sorry, bub, but she is part of the package and since she is not proud of the US--U KNOW WHERE YOU BOTH CAN GO!

I agree with Michelle Obama, I'm about the same age as her and throughout my adult life we've had to deal with the personal shortcomings of Bill Clintons time in the White House and the moral shortcomings of the time that Bush and Cheney have been in the White House.

The Republicans aren't going to win this election by swiftboating the Obama's, that era is OVER....and the only one's who don't seem to recognize this are the Republicans themselves because they've been losing House elections all over the country while using their same old fear and smear swiftboat tactics and it's not working for them anymore as is shown by their LOSING House seats to Democrats in formally solid red Republican districts.

If she's out there trashing America...you better believe she's fair game!!! Once again, the Republicans defend this great country while liberals continue to trash it! God Bless this GREAT country. Vote for a patriot who loves America....JOHN McCAIN!!!!!!

If Obama and his wife (who he has been relying on to go out and gladhand for his political ambitions) can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen! Never, throughout any Presidential election in this country, has the spouse of an aspiring candidate been off limits. If the spouse says utterly stupid things - then they will be called on it. Barack get over it!

So does that make Republicans "fascists", RCK?

Shut up you clown...

If you idiots on this blog want to bring the wive's club into, you should bring in the dog, the parents, the grandparents, the siblings, the cousins, the mailman. Give me a break, we really don't want to bring in the spouses and their comments because all of them have said and done things that can be construed on the negative side. SO U.S. citizens EVEN THE IGNORANT ONES let's focus on the issues and get your buts out of first grade

More victim whining from Obama. If he doesn't want her comments questioned, don't have her flying around the country stumping. Get used to the for the rest of the election. Obama is going to whine about everything. Better take her off the stage before someone looks into the work she's been doing for the University of Chicago.

She is out in front of the crowds with her opinion on all subjects so she is a POLITICIAN. If she does not want that stay out of the lime light, keep your opinions to yourself and don't discuss politics.

Look real close at who he has next to him, what they say, how they say it and what he says about people that criticizes them.

Doesn’t this sound just like Bill about Hillary and Chelsea? They can express their opion but you can't talk about them. Remember they are smart then you.

The dems are batting a thousand this year.
We can say what we want don't talk about us.
Your vote doesn't count if you don't follow our time line.
At the end of the day our "Super Special Peoples" vote can throw yours to the curb.
Democracy in action!

Michelle Obama is also a corporate executive who got her salary tripled after her corrupt husband secured a $1.5 million earmark for her hospital system so there's another reason she's fair game, because she's spending OUR money! John McCain has never once in his life asked for an earmark and Cindy doesn't need one.

Cindy McCain has been out on the campaign trail with old man McBush and she has spoken to crowds several times while also doing media interviews afterwards.

You're not going to get any tracktion by smearing Michelle Obama you rightwing lunitic fringe knuckledraggers because we'll just take apart Cindy McCain if that's what you want.....but then again the average IQ for the GOoPer's never was very high.

John McCain has never once in his life asked for an earmark and Cindy doesn't need one.

Posted by: Jeff | May 19, 2008 1:57 PM

McCain never had to do that because his wife already does things like loaning her corporate jets to him and it's all off the record....it's called cheating the system, Jeff and McBush is the King of that kind of behavior.

The Dems seam a bit thin skinned. They've been taking shots at Bush in very disrespectful ways for eight years. Now they're crying about criticism coming back at them. Anyone that gets up on a stage and offers their opinions is totally fare game. If the Dems win, buy stock in Kleenex; there will be a lot of tears while they defend their policies.

John McCain has never once in his life asked for an earmark and Cindy doesn't need one.

Posted by: Jeff | May 19, 2008 1:57 PM

Princess "Disclosure is for the little people" Cindy? How do you know Jeff? How do you know she isn't raking it in from programs her husband has forced through? How do you know whe's not getting direct payments from the telecoms, EADS and other companies McCain has helped out? Is whe taking money from repressive foriegn governments like many of the lobbyists that her husband has surrounded himself with?

What's she hiding Jeff?

I think if Barack is going to use his wife for public appearances, she is not protected from any criticsm. It is going to be a long campaign judging by all of the stupid remarks stated in these comments. McBush? Marzism. Give it a rest guys. Judge these guys on the issues and stop using the party arguments. These 2 men a basically good men. But in my opinion, Hillary is more qualified then either of them. And I am a life long Republican who voted for Reagan. The 2 party system is broken. Start thinking of the person, not the parties!

Seems like the Tenn. GOP is trying to "open a dialogue without preconditions."

I don't recall Obama's indignation when Hillary Clinton's husband was being smeared by Obama and his thugs.

Everything is off limits as far as Barack is concerned. I get a kick out of him wanting to debate policies, he doesn't have any, other than hope, change, and surrender.

The guy asks like a gentleman to lay off his wife and you criticize it? Gimme a break already.

Yah ... lay off Michelle ... let her put her own big foot in her big, big mouth ... you know she will. First Lady ... what a joke

Its quite interesting how conveniently is used the reference to "patriotism which so many, in all ages and countries, have made a cloak of self-interest". No one has asked why Michelle Obama made her "Pride" statement, and those who havent walked in her shoes in this nation couldn't possible understand. "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel" according to Oscar Wilde and here that reference is appropriate. When you can't intelligently comment on a person's statement, invoke a patriotic insult.

Really impressive....Tennessee you really show your class !!

Typical Obama reaction.

Instead of answering criticism, he (with the aid of his media syncophants) tries to put "off limits" any discussion he doesn't like.

The speech-a-day politician Michelle Obama is thus put "off limits", joining the ever-growing list of things St. Barack declares that he can discuss but we mere mortals can't discuss, a list that includes: his name, his pastor Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, his background, his fundraising, Bill Ayres, Bernadette Dohrn, his voting record.....

I would say go for it repubs....you haven't learned yet from the three seats you lost that screaming liberal doesn't work anymore. America has gotten wise to your playbook and that dog don't hunt. Keep throwing up those flag pin issues...they really work.

am an Obama supporter, but I have to say that a candidate cannot have it both ways, i.e., utilize a spouse as a campaign asset and expect that he/she will not be made the focus of equivalent scrutiny/smearing. That said, Michelle is not the Republicans' worst offensive attack in recent memory--just ask Valerie Plame about that!

Obama put her on the campaign trail making speeches and doing fundraisers so guess what barack what she said is fair game. She is a campaign issue because she says a lot of goofy things.

She is fair game! As soon as she starts giving speeches for her husband and makes the comments that she makes, she is fair game!

Don't blame the republicans about the lapel, Michelle's comments, Rev.Wright's views, Obama's middle name Hussein, this and the many other weakness' of Obama's has been brought up by .... Democrats people. Now they're blaming the McCain group for Hillary's actions. Voting McCain...a real American!

Who died and made Obama king of the political rules? Why does he think he gets to dictate how the campaign is run. His wife is on the road, her public comments are fair game. If he doesn't like it, then he should drop out or ask her to please be quiet for a change.

If His Royal Highness doesn't want Her Royaler Highness to be sullied by by impudent commoners, He must keep her out of The Campaign; otherwise, The Queen is Fair Game

Typical Obama reaction.

RNC Brucie,

McCain got caught face first in the Keating scandel and then he reinvented himself as a "Straight-Talker/Maverick" by being best of friends with everyone in the press thus giving him the benefit of favorable press everytime there was a doubt about any of his questionable dealings, like say...with lobbyists.

If anyone is getting a free pass from the media it's Teflon John McBush:
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gEROVh8zK4

When Obama's wife makes speechs, and campigns for him, then the media, and everyone else can go after her. She is fair game.

This only shows the real Obama, and shows that he is unfit to hold the Presidency.

If Michelle O can't take the heat she best not be campaigning then!!!!

Then she should keep her mouth shut. She's in the public domain by choice.. Get over it barack

Leave it to the Republik Party to pin their hopes of stealing another Presidential election on smearing the wife (Michelle Obama) of the Dem candidate.

The Republik Party can't talk about the real issues that affect Americans (Iraq, economy, healthcare) etc because their on the wrong side of all of those issues and they know it..

What, the Rediculous Republicans have taken to picking on women, now?!! A political season or two ago, they were picking on Veterans, who lost limbs in Viet Nam, questioning their a patriotism !!? Can you believe the bankruptcy of ideas that Party is displaying?!! Unfortunately, that didn't stop them from voting for Incompetence Personified, not once, but twice !! Let it be known, that the Ridiculous Republicans will call you a scardy-cat if you call for our young men and women, in uniform, to be brought home, ASAP. They sure now how to be tough with words, don't they ?!!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE. NOW.

I love it.. Barack Obama is a master at political Jiu Jitsu.

Every time they attack him, he parries and punches back harder... Call him an "appeaser" with pathetically unsound comparisons to Neville Chamberlain? Fine... Barack will just use the publicity created to shine light on how moronic the Republican foreign policies are.

Talk junk about his wife? Great! He'll just use it to show he's a stand-up guy who'll go to bat for his spouse... while making you look petty and childish.

Thanks GOP! Keep it coming. The days of the weak-wristed excuse-response (Kerry and Gore) are over. You're dealing with someone who knows how to turn your petty "politics" against you and blast you with a heavy dose of biting reality in return.

Not a smart response by Barack. This will just increase the criticism of Michelle. It sounds more like a comment Bush would make if someone criticized his wife.

RCK....Yes! And Bill, helped her.

Maybe Mr. Obama should speak to HIlary about this subject. She can give him some 1st hand advice about being the wife of a public person!
He is looking less and less like a viable candidate everytime he opens his mouth, it is too bad but unrealistic to believe that anyone will "lay off his wife."

It's not an issue of whether or not a candidate's wife is automatically fair game, as some posters have said. It's whether statements made by said wife, while actively campaigning for her husband, are fair game. I don't see how you could answer "no" to that.

And I agree with everyone here that Michelle's fair game... heck, I bet Barack Obama believes she's fair game... but that doesn't mean he shouldn't make the Repbublican's look like puny little wusses for attacking his li'l 'ol wife.

Isn't it cool to see a Democrat winning these little fist fights for once?

Obama is a wuss. When you are a candidate for the highest office in the Nation, your mate is fair game since they will be the First Lady/Man. Both the candidate and mate need to be put under the microscope for the good of the Nation. Wasn't it former President Truman that said something like, "if you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, get out"? Perhaps since Obama and Michele can't take it, they should drop out of the race for the Office of POTUS. Obama and Michele are now in the public eye and must take good/bad that goes with it.

Barry Hussein get out of the kitchen!

She campaigns for him, goes on talk shows, attacks Hilary and McCain for him, writes books, accepts politically appointed jobs BUT SHE'S OFF LIMITS!? Who does this joker think he is? Wake up America before it is to late.

Then I guess that makes John McBush a wuss because not only will he not let us talk about Cindy McCain's drug habit he also won't release her tax returns which would show that the McCain's own eight homes, two corporate jets and are worth $100's of millions of dollars....sounds "elitist" to me.

Bring it on, GOoPer's!

Let's put Cindy McCain under the microscope too, starting with her finances.

Release her tax returns NOW!

If the McCains can't stand that level of scrutiny, maybe they should get out of the kitchen.

This is what I simply don't get about Republicans! They attack Michelle Obama for something she said that, quite frankly, not too many people understood. If, and this is a big if, McCain's wife was pure as the driven snow, I could see them coming out and attacking Michelle. However, Cindy McCain has several "issues". If the Republicans want to play nasty, the Democrats will not be swiftboated again. Republicans better be prepared for a long and nasty fight if they lob the first bomb. What's that old saying: People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?

JOHN MCBUSH GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!

As long as Mrs. O is out on the campaign trail, she is "fair game" and to have Mr. O tell us to "lay off his wife" is crazy. Should he be elected the next Prez she will be the First Lady and the person representing a Country that she has not been proud of until now!!!! Digest that for a moment....

I love how all these Republicans think a guy who stands up for his wife is a wus...

Hilarious! No doubt they would be saying the same thing if he DIDN'T stand up for his wife.

Sorry guys.. it' aint gonna work this time. John Kerry and Al Gore would've meekly requested (like John McCain is) that we all be nice, please for their wife. You know.. please don't attack her... respect our privacy.. etc. etc... and the GOP would've LOVED it.

But this guy says "lay off, a$$ho les" like a real man would if someone else talked crap about their wife and the GOPers are like "oh, crap... what do we do now? This guy isn't like the last two."

This is one the GOP CAN'T win... Every married man on the street can relate to what they would/should do if someone was badmouthing their wife. Barack Obama standing up for her is doing JUST THAT and it's a HUGE winner for him in destroying the "elitist" tag and making him more "the man I'd like to have a beer with" type of candidate.

Please GOP. Please. Keep attacking Michelle Obama. It only helps.

Why don't we start telling the truth about McCain's wife--the drug addict who stole from her own charity?

Should he be elected the next Prez she will be the First Lady and the person representing a Country that she has not been proud of until now!!!! Digest that for a moment....

Posted by: Concerned Chicagoan | May 19, 2008 5:07 PM

I've digested it and I think she'll make a great first lady and in no way is her speaking her mind going to make me vote for another war-mongering Republican (McCain) this fall.

What a cry baby. He made her a part of the campaign and words have meaning. Maybe those are the chickens coming home to roost?

Hillary 08 !!!!!!!!

She said Americans are ready to focus on issues and not on things "that have nothing to do with making people's lives better.

This fine statement is very clear and will give American a good sample on explanation of which should be the priority. America should focus on problems and solution and not on non sense issues. It does not matter who are the candidate. What matter is the candidate's goal and clear procedures on how to achieve the goal.

why is it never a shock to come to boards like this and find the most anti-Obama, anti-Democrat, pro-GOP rantings and ravings are always the most poorly spelled and punctuated?

why is it never a shock that the people who hold the dumbest viewpoints also have the loosest grasp on the english language?

i guess expecting american adults to properly spell and formulate a sentence is too elitist. i shudder to think what it's considered to actually expect american adults to make coherent, logical arguments. super-duper elitist?

it would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Release your medical records, John McBush!!!!!!!!!

I love Obama and support him, but if his wife is going to campaign for him and serve the way Hillary did for Bill (as it seems), she is fair game.

To be honest, Michelle Obama has hurt him and I personally think she needs to stay at home with the girls and not make comments on the record.

We are voting for Barack, not Michelle, and hopefully this won't be another "two for the price of one" package.

Mmmm....her ancestors were forced into slavery. Her parents lived in the pre-civil rights era and no doubt had many sad and tragic stories of discrimination. And people wonder why she wouldn't have pride in this country? She should have nothing but pride in herself for rising above the obstacles the United States put in front of her and all people of color.

To Mr. White in Springfield (and your clones): How about if you discuss ISSUES? I would like to know just what is positive about the GOP these days. What do you have to offer we, the people, that is so wonderful that we're all just somehow missing it?

As some others have written here, you're going to have to do much better than your "frightening" name-calling. Communists! Muslims! Marxists! OMG!! I am so terrified! Please, lead me to the nearest Republican to protect me!

This is a sure fire way to increase attacks on his wife.

I wonder what he expects. Real men don't take cheap shots at a man's wife. Conservatives have a track record of taking cheap shots at wives; i.e. Hillary, Teresa Heinz Kerry, Kitty Dukakis.

Obama is fighting with many cowards and losers, who will squeal like a pig when they are attacked, not real men

At least Sen. Obama's spouse hasn't been impeached.

I guess none of the men who are married or has a girlfriend, and made negative statements about Mr. Obama, because he was taking up for his wife, really does not love or care about there own.

Obama emphasized that the GOP in Tennessee is off-base to DISTORT Michelle's remarks. In no way is he saying Michelle is a delicate flower that can't be studied or discussed. He's just saying stop the distortion that Clinton and the Republicans have been all about this campaign season.

This just proves both Michelle and Barack are liars!

Have they forgotten the videos of Michelle stating that she would not support Hillary?

Or what about all the attacks Michelle made towards Hillary and Bill?

Michelle and Obama like to play the victim role and refuse to accept responsibility for their own actions.

Both Michelle and Barack have made some outrageous anti-american and racist statements and they should be held accountable for them!

By the way.....Obama better get used to the attacks.....they are only going to get worse.....so suck it up and stop whining that is what you signed up for when you decided to run for President and First Lady of the White House.

I am "really" frustrated by the criticisms of Michelle Obama's pride in her country. Journalists should know the term "qualifier" (a term used in Toulmin's communication model). Michelle Obama said, "For the first time in my "adult" life, I am "really" proud of my country." The sentence contains two qualifiers, "adult" modifying "life"; and "really" modifying "proud". As a child, she could have been and probably was "really proud of her country". As an adult, she could be and probably is proud of her country. But now, for the first time in her adult life, she is "really" proud of her country. This means that to a greater degree than before, she has even more pride in her country. To clarify, she is especially and exceptionally more proud of her country at this time. In my opinion, any political pundits who criticize her words are showing a genuine lack of intelligence and are hard-pressed to find any topics of substantive value to talk about.

If Michelle Obama puts herself out there making public statements then she is fair game!!

Welcome to public life. If you can't handle the questioning get out of the race.

RCK: If your party is so much against abortion, why do we STILL HAVE THEM after all these years of Republican majority??? It's just a PLATFORM that you all drag out every 4 years to get you elected... then NOTHING!!!! SO SAVE IT FOR SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES THAT MUMBO JUMBO!!!!
JOHN: WE ALL KNOW WHAT OBAMA'S MIDDLE NAME IS: AT LEAST IT'S NOT "STUPID" LIKE SOME OF THESE RIGHT WING POSTS ON HERE!!! MATTER OF FACT, I THINK A LOT OF YOU ARE SIMPLY JEALOUS OF OBAMA'S INTELLECT AND INTELLIGENCE!!!! WAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Who cares...she's the wife of someone who may, or may never be president. Her opinion doesn't matter after GW is gone. Seriously...it doesn't...I'm not being sexist...it just doesn't. In one month...nobody cares about this.

Michelle is fair game.
She made a comment for the sake of publicly endorsing her husband and this comment speaks to the general spirit of the Obama campaign. This spirit goes something like this "I am a supreme being who is greater than anything this country has yet to produce. Vote for me because I can save you"
Michelle is right beside him and willing to sit on the high throne of self righteous arrogance. I really wish the GOP had a better candidate because Obama scares me. And once you stop mindlessly listening to his sermons, he will scare you too.

What attack?? Did they watch the video? All I saw was footage of Michelle saying with conviction how she is proud of her country for the first time in her adult life. This was interspersed with rank and file Tennessee folk talking about why they've been proud of America, and they made no reference to Michelle whatsoever, good or bad. Showing her speaking HER OWN WORDS constitutes an "attack"? It's HER OWN FAULT. So please, save your whining for some real action, Sen. Obama. Making an issue of this video just shows how spoiled and handled-with-kid-gloves you've been this whole primary season. This is a presidential contest, not a beauty pageant, so man up. You're becoming very annoying.

why is it never a shock to come to boards like this and find the most anti-Obama, anti-Democrat, pro-GOP rantings and ravings are always the most poorly spelled and punctuated?

why is it never a shock that the people who hold the dumbest viewpoints also have the loosest grasp on the english language?

i guess expecting american adults to properly spell and formulate a sentence is too elitist. i shudder to think what it's considered to actually expect american adults to make coherent, logical arguments. super-duper elitist?

it would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Funny, that's what I think about the passionate, angry Dems. Your comments on poor spelling and punctuation would be more convincing if you utilized proper capitalization. And your grammar? Atrocious!! It would be funny if it WEREN'T so sad.

The Republicans are finished

I guess you never heard of Patient Confidentiality. Why don't you ask Obama to stop smoking or is that not a health concern?? Uhhm I think McCain has had plenty of scrutiny. The problem is he does not whine about like the dems. who cannot even say the middle name of their nominee without getting offended. Now that is sad yes? I sure look forward to higher taxes to if the democrats are in office.
