In a bit of campaign-trail irony, the Huffington Post reports that Barack Obama paid respect to rural gun culture at San Francisco-area fundraiser just hours before he made his now-infamous remark that "bitter" small-town Americans "cling to" guns or religion.
The web site said the Obama remark was shared by a source it identified as an attendee at a private fundraiser for Obama in Silicon Valley.
"We need sensible gun laws," Obama told the contributors, according to the Huffington Post. "I just got back from Montana where just about everyone has guns. In that culture, fathers and sons bond over hunting. You can't take that away from rural America. But the inner city is different, and we should tighten the laws on gun purchases and close the loopholes in gun show sales to unscrupulous buyers. The gun control people and the right to bear arms people are talking past each other about disconnected topics."

Obama has had this position for years. But most of the media (especially the TV media) only report half the truth.

Funny, you won't see his veiled criticism of inner-city (read: African-American) gun use in the mainstream media (suprised I'm reading it here), because it doesn't play well into the current meme of racism, under-educated white people and "elitism." Thanks a lot for deciding the election for us again, media.

Actually I think Senator Obama hits on something when he stated:"fathers and sons bond over hunting". What'squite often missing when you talk about urban America: fathers.

Sometimes the racism is in the eye of the beholder. You're the one who inserted African American into the statement. It's not by any means inferred or given that this was his intention.
By your rationale, you could read about anything you want into any statement, and turn it into a gaffe.
