Barack Obama gobbled up a major Hillary Clinton superdelegate Thursday -- but he's suffering from a decline in the polls that coincides with the national tour conducted by his firebrand former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Joe Andrew -- who endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton last year -- defected to Obama Thursday, the 15th superdelegate to back him in the last week.
"We have two good candidates, but we have two people who've run their campaigns in two different ways," said Andrew, an Indiana superdelegate. "Barack Obama is serious about changing the process in politics. ... I'm inspired by someone who says, you know we don't have to play the game."
At the same time, a bevy of new polls seemed to show Obama is suffering from the "Wright Effect."
Clinton has widened her lead in Indiana, cut Obama's edge in North Carolina down to 7 points and lurched ahead in a major national poll, following a week of wall-to-wall coverage of controversial remarks by Obama's ex-pastor.
A Gallup national daily tracking poll showed Clinton jumping to a 49 to 45 lead over Obama, her biggest lead nationally since mid-March. Obama led Clinton by 10 points in the poll on the eve of the April 22 Pennsylvania primary.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Thursday showed Obama and Clinton in a statistical dead heat nationally, with Obama surrendering a 7-point lead in the last six weeks.
Tom Bevan, founder of Realclearpolitics.com, which tracks poll data, termed the shift a "rather dramatic tightening" of a Democratic presidential race many had considered finished prior to Clinton's Pennsylvania victory, Wright's resurfacing and Obama's belated denunciation of the pastor.

Really?
From the Chicago SunTimes --
"One of the banks that went under after making a lot of subprime loans -- leaving 1,400 of its customers without part of their savings -- was Chicago's Superior Bank.
At the helm of Superior Bank at least some of the time was Obama's national finance chairwoman, Penny Pritzker, an heiress to the Pritzker fortune.
...a letter obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times shows that until the end, Pritzker appeared to be taking a leadership role in trying to revive the bank with an expanded push into subprime loans". (emphasis added) Sure sounds like Barack has been playing the same old game to me.

Not enough big words of a politician to hide a great truth.
Obama paid a dear price their friendship, guidance and support of a man who has lived of extremist ideas.
A president is for everyone, not just for some, and that is what we have to do a president of the country, not from their community or church.
Obama may have the full support of the press, radio, television. You can pay three times more publicity, but in the end its truth, which has now come to light, you can always shine, but not for him, if not for their opponents.
Obama is not going to win, and everything is your fault.
"Change", this word has had to use it himself first, only then could have applied to others.
Go Hillary !!! She is strong and she will win !!!

The comments by Wright, Obama and Mrs. Obama have done more to set back relations among the races in this country by 25 years. A more moderate candidate, such as Colin Powell, would have advanced those relations by light years. Too bad. This has been a golden opportunity missed by misstatements.

The news about Mr. Obama sinking like a lead bowling ball is very distressing to me. He seemed like the man who could do everything for everybody, plus he's been so honest and forthright with the American people. I just hope, this is all a bad dream and I'll wake up and none of this bad news is true. Hope and change brothers and sisters, oh and yes, as Mr. Ayers would succinctly say "Power to the people.
Oh!! little Johnny Everdumb please tell me again that he's going to win, i need some moral support.

Barack Obama was o.k. with Rev.Wright when he was spewing his racist hatred against white Americans. Obama didn't seem to mind until he came under fire by Rev. Wright. So it's alright for his pastor to attack and offend white America but not alright to call Barack Obama a "politician", he's a little thin skinned when it come to himself, but not so much when it comes to "whitey."

I guess Americans aren't ready for change. Judge the man. He brings more integrity and less baggage than any of the other candidates. He is smart and brings new ideas to the political process. And what does he get, blasted by mud and judged by his pastor. Americans, as we've seen for the past 8 years, get what they deserve. We're all going the wrong direction and just can't help ourselves until we hit the bottom I guess.

So just how is Obama going to change everything when he hasn't been able to do ANYTHING in his 3 years in the U.S Senate ? He is a part of the Washington crowd that he criticizes. He takes money from employees and managers of oil and gas companies yet criticizes Clinton for accepting oil and gas money. Whats the difference ? Obama has a history of saying one thing and then doing another. His ACTIONS speak louder than his words. Are you that naive to think that his crafty speeches are going to change politics. Did he change anything in Chicago's world of politics ?? If you think he did then you're probably waiting for him to walk on water and give a speech and the war will end and all will be wonderful in the world. Yes, Obama will solve all the ills of the world and we will all be one big happy family. Get REAL !!

It is not only the "Wright Effect" that Sen. Obama is suffering from.
It's his & his wife's longtime associations with Wm. Ayres & Ms. Dohrn, the " bitter" "clinging" comments,
unanswered questions about
Rezko et al, his refusal to debate Sen. Clinton, his apparent FEAR & refusal to appear on The O'Reilly Factor, refusal to answer questions about his core beliefs, his disowning of the White Community and his White heritage for a militant Black Community and wife, Black Liberation Church & Pastor that are taking taking their toll.
The overall picture of Sen Obama is of a fractured man,
uncertain or unclear in his beliefs, flatfooted as a potential leader, unable to respond to crises.
The nightmare picture is a 3 a.m. attack where he cannot
decide what to do.
Sen. Obama does not have the experience, qualifications,
or mindset to make hard decisions and lead; his polls will probaly continue to reflect his shortcomings as more people get to know who & what he is.

America does not deserve Obama. The Archie Bunkers will assure US decline continues.

The rabid awake..wipe the foam off their lips and head to the first Wright thread they can find. Why? Because they have no reasons to promote their candidate, so they attack the pastor of a church and by association Obama. They sling their war cry...20 years..20 years....These would be the same people who attend their own churches for 20 years..20 years..listening to their pastor tell them Jesus said "He That Is Without Sin Among You, Let Him First Cast a Stone
As Christ Forgave You, So Also Do Ye
or Matthew......Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
I guess they went to their church for 20 years...20 years..and didn't listen either.

America's death will in some way involve race....the garbage always comes back. Even with a guy coming from the womb of a white American woman he is still looked down upon. Rev Wright's remarks are used as a transparent justification to reject the man. There has been nothing in Obama's writings, activities or speeches to suggest any agreements with Wright. The same would be applied to many Republicans versus Falweld, Robertson and many others.

I think what all the people, who fawn over BO, have missed is what he is going to change and HOW?!! He didn't do squat in IL and now he wants everyone to believe he is going to change things at national and international level. Good luck with that!!

The big questions remain unanswered that cut to the core of Obama's credibility, character and judgment. If Obama truly believes in a united America and is "post racial," why did he align himself and his family with the hateful, anti-America, anti-white, anti-semitic rhetoric of Jeremiah Wright and the Black Nationalist movement for the last 20+ years? If Obama is truly the great uniter, why has he donated tens of thousands of dollars, including $26,000 last year alone, to Jeremiah Wright to further his message of hate and diviseness? Why did it take the media and plummeting poll numbers to jolt Obama out of what can only be described as a racist stupor to address, however inadequately, his association with racism and hate?

What in the world is wrong with some people. Look who are we to judge a person and their relationship with their church , pastor or priest! I'm Catholic, what in the world was I or all Catholics suppose to do when the sexual abuse of children in the Catholic church was exposed. Dummies were all Catholics suppose to flee the church. Sure some people did leave the church but most people continue to stay with their parish. You have no right to judge Obama on this matter. So why did all of these Catholics stay with their church knowing whaat they know about their church? This is beyond a double standard. This is stupidity and for some racial. And I'm a white guy!

Democrats are slowly waking up to the fact that their nominee is an old school Black Liberation Theologist who is no more electable than a Klansman would be. Obama duped you, folks.

I agree with Bessie--All was fine and Obama had a million excuses why it was ok for Rev. Wright to bash whites - it didn't become a problem until Obama started getting bashed! I am amazed at how so many people think Obama will get in the White House and "change" everything. Who are you kidding? Change takes time, energy and experience!
Posted by: jb | May 2, 2008 9:34 AM
So let me get this straight. Obama spends 20 years clapping in the pews with the hateful Jeremiah while immersing himself in the Black Nationalist Movement. Obama spends weeks dancing around the issue of his affiliation with Wright, first pretending he didn’t even know Wright’s views. And now this week *viola!* Obama says he doesn’t agree with Wright? (**wink, wink**) Rest assured that Jeremiah will be dining with Michelle, Louis and Bill in the White House if Obama is elected.

Why isn't Clinton suffering from the "Procanick effect"... her former pastor that was sentenced to three years for child molestation. Or the "Peter Paul" effect... the fraud case coming to a courtroom this fall with a cast of characters from Bill and Hillary to Fast Eddie Rendell to Cher to Stan Lee. There's such a double-standard that the media, including this paper, is throwing out there it's disgusting.
My point being - if you bring up Wright nonstop for two months for saying some bad stuff, you better get the other side.
Anyone thinking Clinton has been "vetted" ain't seen nothing yet.

Every single one of the candidates claims some religious affiliation, do they not? And look at our fearless leader in office now, he claims his God is almighty and uses words like evil to describe others. Please. Religion as a whole is a vehicle to advance your righteousness. All of them. So, really, there's no one out there who is free from criticism about their praticular religion. This Wright business is an easy excuse for haters to hate more. he's wrong. We all know it. Barack knows it and has said it. call it an awakening. Give the man a chance to reevaluate. Even 20 years worth. He's very intelligent an will move forward accordingly. Can't you not see the integrity Obama possess? It's nearly transparent (that means good). If you are driven away from these last events, I'd say it is an act of cowardliness and lacking intelligence.

The left doesn't want to admit yet that the Obamas are fake.
But the rest of the country---who doesn't have time to sit down to every issue of The Nation--knows better.
It's over.
SAVE THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD BY VOTING FOR HILLARY, HOOSIERS--IT'S IMPORTANT.

Obama started his campaign with the message of Hope. After finding there is no substance behind his rhetoric he is now HOPING we forget about Wright, Ayers, Rezko......

Ok Joe Andrew is backing Obama, big deal, but the Tribune failed to say that the largest newspaper in Indiana is giving their support to Hillary today. Much biger fish! But of course as usual Obama gets all the press. Poor Obama made the choice to go with Wright for 20 years as his pastor and now he is being found out for his lying. What you sow, so shall you reap. Bet he never heard that in Wright's sermns.
Posted by: RFB | May 2, 2008 11:23 AM
To Don B -- Your bad dream occurred before the Wright fiasco when you thought Obama was so honest. You have now awoke to the reality of what Obama is and stands for, not hope but more political lies to step on everyone on his way up. Well now he will see all those same people on his way down.
Posted by: RFB | May 2, 2008 11:28 AM
obama was losing in major blocks even BEFORE PA.
he had a slight chance to salvage some on the fence but even that is gone along with former and potential supporters.
obama could have apologized. instead he chose to take Voters for a ride by lying that he was OUTRAGED. ... AN APOLOGY WAS WHAT THEY WANTED TO HEAR FROM HIM, but again, he was out of touch with what Voters really want in their candidate.

Wright Effect = Fake Effect wrote, "The left doesn't want to admit yet that the Obamas are fake."
I think the left ARE admitting their dissatisfaction and uncertainty with the Obamas. His numbers and margins are declining.

Denise you are Wright the US does not deserve Obama. We deserve someone who has this country in his heart and is willing to give all to make it a better place to live for the little guy, not just the college educated elitists of this country. They can continue to vote for him, but it is the less educated blue collar working people that deserve better than him, and they will be the ones to make the desicion in the primaries and also in the general election, and it wont be Obama

Too funny. I am starting to believe that we are going to have John McCain as a not so new president. A continuation of the same old because the dems are not going to get past a bunch of smoke. So sad but I have to laugh to keep from crying. b/c or the
$7 gas
more folks losing their homes
no one being able to buy a home
no new jobs while seniors looking for jobs
100 years in Eye rack
etc. etc. etc.
This will probably happen for a myriad of reasons but it sucks... We need a new party in America the two we have are nut jobs.
