The Swamp

by Naftali Bendavid

The question of the hour seems to be: Should Barack Obama put Hillary Clinton on the ticket?

The idea of a Democratic "dream ticket," of course, has been out there a long time. It originated, you may recall, when Clinton began trailing Obama, and the Clinton camp floated the idea of a Clinton-Obama ticket to persuade voters they could vote for her and get him, too.

More recently it's come up as the natural consequence of one of the closest nomination battles in history. When a fight is this close, with the loser generating enormous support and passion in her own right, there's a certain logic to simply putting both candidates on the ticket. (The satirical newspaper The Onion suggested the possibility of a "nightmare ticket," featuring Obama, McCain and Clinton.)

The speculation has been fueled further by a couple of recent news reports. The New York Times suggested that Bill Clinton would like his wife to be Obama's running mate if she is not the nominee. CNN reported that extremely preliminary talks have begun between the two camps about an Obama-Clinton ticket. My sense is that there is no serious attempt, as yet, to make this happen.

The advantages of an Obama-Clinton ticket are obvious. Hillary Clinton has sparked great enthusiasm among her supporters, including older women. Combined with the passion for Obama among young, African-American and well-educated voters, they would jointly be a formidable electoral force. In addition, Clinton has proved stronger than Obama during the primaries in a series of big swing states, from Ohio to Pennsylvania to West Virginia.

More to the point, if Clinton loses the nomination, polls suggest some of her supporters would sit out the election, refusing to support Obama. At a minimum, they would not work for Obama's election, and they might even vote for Republican John McCain. These polls should be taken with a healthy dose of salt, since they're being conducted in the heat of the fight, and the great majority of Democrats are likely to rally around the nominee once there is one. Nontheless, the danger is real, and putting Clinton on the ticket would avoid it.

But the downsides of an Obama-Clinton ticket are equally clear. For one thing, personal tensions between Obama and Clinton seem to have grown throughout the campaign. It's not clear that Obama would have any interest in having a powerhouse like Clinton, with her own power base, as his Number Two. On top of that, Obama would have to contend with former President Bill Clinton, both as a candidate and, if he won the White House, as president. Suffice it to say that Bill Clinton's agenda might not always be the same as Obama's.

Beyond that, Hillary Clinton is a polarizing figure with a lot of baggage, and Obama presumably would not want to add that to his campaign. In some ways, putting Clinton on the ticket would undermine his basic message--that he is about the future and about change. The former first lady of a previous administration hardly helps him make that point.

The danger for Obama, and the Democrats, is that Clinton could decide to force the issue. If Clinton lets it be known publicly that she wants the job, and more than that, believes that it's owed to her, it would create serious problems for Obama. It would confront him with the choice of either putting Clinton on the ticket, whether he wants to or not, or arousing the bitterness of her supporters if he snubs her.

Although I think it a good idea...this is one of the reasons I would oppose it. I don't like the thought of appeasing these babies who really don't think of the issues. I guess each party has their own "I'll take my ball and go home" Bozos...but for the life of me I can't figure out why she has so many.

Bill's involvment in all this is precisely why I don't support Hillary.

If it weren't for Bill, Hillary may or may not be where she is now. But the point remains she's here because he's here.

I am a diehard Clinton supporter and will not vote for Obama if he does not offer her the VP. His supporters brandish Roe V. Wade as the threat to compel the support of women but I'm not a single issue voter and I don't view McCain as a third term for George Bush.

No.

Putting a person desperate to be president a heartbeat away from achieving her ambition? Obama would have to be out of his mind to do it. Also, Mrs. Clinton might discover that the racists she has so carefully cultivated might turn out to be sexists in a general election against McCain. Finally, Mrs. Clinton has said repeatedly that McCain is a better candidate than Obama. With those kinds of friends he doesn't need enemies.

With Bill out of the equation-maybe, just maybe i'll be open to the idea of having Hillary on Obama's ticket. First. She must mend the fences with his supporters after her inflammatory remarks during this bruising primary.

Not if he wants to live through his first year in office. We know what she's got on her mind.

There are four reasons that Hillary as a VP candidate could cause problems.

1. Is she able to subordinate herself to someone she has denigrated as being not as well qualified as she is?

2. Given her background with corporate interests, can she support the type of proposals Obama is likely to promote?

3. She will energize the Republican base to come out and vote against her.

4. Bill is the worst back-seat driver in history. How do you keep him from butting in?

It would be a huge mistake for Barack Obama to pick Senator Clinton for his VP. Some might think that this is the unbeatable, "Dream Ticket," but I strongly believe, based on the behaviors and antics I witnessed just during the 2008 part of this campaign, that she would make his life Hell, during the national campaign and also duing his presidency if he wins. She thinks Barack and the rest of the Ameican public "owes" her. And she would never let him forget it. My Suggestion: Let him appoint Senator Clinton as the U.S. Ambassador to Argentina and be done with it.

yes i feel you should at least offer sen.hillary clinton the VP postion and if she does except you would be in a better postion then you were before due to uniting the party ...at least you know that you will have a dem in the house for a long long time to come....

Putting Hillary on the ticket would be akin to giving in to blackmail. Is that what we want in a president?

YES, to cc -- GO HILLARY!!

To Joan B -- and your comment is more acceptable than the one HILLARY made re assassination that was so misconstrued? And yours is ok, why??? Because of HILLARY bashing, again and again and again...

Hillary should be in a more important cabinet position, than Veep. She's more valuable in a position that let's her wield more of her power and influence, and having her as VP candidate during the general election conflicts with Obama's "change" them.

My sister and I are both life-long democrats and voted for Bill Clinton - twice. And we were going to vote for Hillary. But we realize that she has a "glass ceiling", not solely due to sexism, but due to her personality. There are just too many people out there that positively hate her for lots of reasons. Her negatives are high and only get higher with every "gaffe" she makes. My sister suggested she be promised the next available seat on the Supreme Court. It would be a life-time appointment and satisfy those who feel Rowe vs. Wade is threatened. What do you think?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!
WHY SHOULD HE PICK SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT REPRESENT ANY OF HIS VAUES.
AS GEFFEN SAID... THE CLINTONS ARE VERY GOOD AT LYING......

Forget Mrs. Clinton, if its a woman VP you want, Nancy Pelosi would be far better all around. There are also many other fine men that would complement Obama's platform.

Somebody get Bill Richardson on the phone. He's a much more positive choice for Veep. He's got more foreign policy experience then any of the candidates we've seen from either party and he's actually governed. He'll bring in his own state and his own demographic and he's not going to try to insert his own agenda into the presidential branch.

Absolutely not.. That ship sailed on Friday. Perhaps a cabinet post, but most definitely not the VP spot.

By the way, if Sen. Clinton's supporters want to be responsible for the prolonged loss of the lives of our service men and women, by voting for McCain or not voting at all. Let them.

As a friend mentioned recently, for Clinton it will be just another shameful page in her diminishing legacy.

However, the knowledge that American women willfully sacrificed the lives of their fellow-women's children out of pure spite, and petulance will be a disgrace to the U.S. Women's Movement for decades to come.

NO.
He should not have to carry all her baggage, all the Clinton history, all the Clinton lies and the Clinton egos with him.
NO
Obama can run with a honorable person and win. The Clintons keep threatening that he can't win without her. Thats more of the same racist crap they have been pulling.
NO
I believe that he won't win with her.

If Obama picks Hillary for V.P. his next decision should be to hire a food taster.

Typical Clinton supporter... so blind that they'd rather have another republican in the white house promoting Bush policies than have a candidate that can really change the direction of this country. Are Clinton supporters so deprived that they'd really rather divide the party than unite the country. I guess it's what you can expect from a supporter of a divisive candidate.

REGARDLESS AS TO WHERE HILLARY MAY BE ON THE TICKET, IF THE NAME CLINTON IS ON THE BALLOT, SHE WILL NOT GET OUR VOTES. REMENBER HER BAGGAGE INCLUDING BILL, TRASHING WHITEHOUSE, MISTRUST, LYING!!!! WHITEWATER AND OTHERS!!!!

If Hillary destroys the Democrats chances to win in November because she can't get over her own ego, then she and her family are OUT.

They might as well declare Republican and move on.

I am so tired of Hillary and all the threats. It's all about her. She should take a lesson from Margaret Thatcher and stop whining. Her supporters threaten not to vote for Barack, but that works both ways.
The question is DO YOU CARE ABOUT THE COUNTRY OR NOT?

See: http://kwame-mensan.blogspot.com/ [The Clintsons cannot be trusted]

There are more who qualify for the position of VP than Hillary Clinton. John Edwards and Bill Richardson are probably the best choices.

Having followed these primaries from the beginning, I think it is wise to put someone else in that position. Afterall, the motto used by the Obama campaign up to now, is "All change, please. All change". This means that no former residents of the WH is allowed. They must join the train of the pass and let other people take the wheel of the train of the future.

In addition to that, she has done too much damage: the kitchen sink, the comments about Kennedy assacination etc ... I think she should retreat entirely.

Any geture of unity at this point coming from the Obama campaign would likely be too little, too late. They have spent the entire campaign creating fake scandals to get offended over.

Face it, the "New" politics are about as refreshing as last weeks clam chowder.

Regardless of where Hillary is, I and many of my friends will never vote for Hillary and Bill!!! Remenber her baggage including trashing and steraling when they left the WhiteHouse!!! And all the rest!!!!!!

I wanted John Edwards for pres. Now I want Obama since he won. HRC and Obama agree on 95% of the issues. Voting for McCain would be like turning Gay because I couldn't get the prom queen on a date!

No.

Actually, it is precisely the fact that her constituency strongly in favor of her includes groups he has a hard time attracting is why she should be there. Further, the point of his change message is he can cross party lines and broker deals with people he has disagreements with, as with Mrs. Clinton. I, a very strong support of Obama, believes this match plays to his strength.

I hope Obama is smart enough not to ask Hillary to be his VP I for one will not vote for Obama ,there will be too many consequences Because of this psychotic ,unstable, crazy insensitive person

I think it would be a big mistake for Obama to make Hillary his VP, and not because she doesn't deserve it, but because Republicans and Independents dislike her as intensely as Obama supporters: he'd lose in the fall. Most of the people who voted for her who won't vote for Obama, vote republican in the general, and most of those women, except the loonies, will vote for him.

Black Americans, and many of all races are EXTREMELY disturbed by Hillary's insinuation of a possible assassination of Barack Obama. To imply that her reason for staying in the race is because anything can happen, then nonchalantly say that even Robert Kennedy was assassinated in June, meaning therefore she should stay in, is not only pitifully diobolical but incredibly dangerous.

As I read some of the comments, I sense that some do not understand the true impact of her deadly insinuation. Keep in mind, when it was first announced that Obama was running for President, the initial concern in Black America was his safety. "Would some nut sniper him"? Obama had to hire secret service security right out of the gate.....why? Because of the true possibilty of some nut doing harm to him or his family.

Also, during the last 50 years, the people who have been assassinated have ALL been leaders who were working toward equality for ALL. John F., Robert and of course Dr. King. So just the WORD assassination brings to us not only an extreme fear but is a reminder of the incredibly sad loss to America, particularly Blacks, at the hands of the sick and wicked. For Hillary Clinton, a so-called leader, to insinuate, for WHATEVER reason assassination....is beyond disgusting. It subliminally sparks the hatred, bigotry and destruction that most Americans have worked so hard to overcome.

I am a strong Obama supporter but I think Ms Berkowitz is wrong. Hillary has said repeatedly that she will support Obama if he gets the nomination. I agree that she is ambitious but who runs for President who is not ambitious. I will support him whomever he picks for VP but I continue to think that a united party is critical and this would be the way to assure it.

Clinton fans who would not vote for Obama, should he be the Democratic presidential nominee, are cutting off their nose to spite their face. For so doing, they may end up giving the presidency to the Republicans, yet again. While the Democrats are no angels, the prospect of another Republican president would be a disaster for the country.

I would like to see both Clintons leave the national stage. I am sick of them. She waged a low cutthroat campaign and does not deserve any consideration by Obama. If he loses a few votes with her not on the ticket so be it.

No way! The answer is a firm and resolute no.
---
The VP slot should not be a consolation prize for Hillary, especially after all she has done to knee-cap Obama and divide our nation—to say nothing of her most recent statement insinuating that she's staying in the race in case the "unthinkable" should happen to Barack Obama. With each passing day, it has become painfully obvious to a growing number of Americans that Sen. Clinton lacks the vision, character, and moral leadership to guide our country. While I can appreciate her supporters' disappointment, I cannot excuse any attempt on their part to hold the Democrats and Sen. Obama hostage by threatening to sit out the election or vote for Sen. McCain. If Hillary’s supporters refuse to accept her defeat and consequently vote for McCain, they'll be choosing to continue the disastrous policies of George Bush and risk turning the clock back on civil rights. And that would be a sad day for America.
---
I pray that after Obama clinches the nomination, Americans will rally together to do what’s best for our country. Given the deperate need to move beyond the Bush-Clinton era into a more positive direction, choosing between Barack Obama and John McCain is easy—even for this independent voter.

Long story short:

Obama + Clinton would be a good ticket for winning the election, but a bad ticket for running the country.

I agree that Obama/Clinton ticket will be a formidable force. However, historically the Clinton's have proven that they cannot be trusted, they will stop at nothing in their quest for power. Putting Hillary in the VP position will be downright harzadous and dangerous for Obama's personal safety as the President. The Clinton's are capable of the unthinkable and I would not let them stand behind my back or trust them with my life. They're only one step away from the presidency. Too scary a thought.

Secondly, I think Boston's Mayor, Thomas Menino, who is a superdelegate and strong Clinton supporter was right in saying that he opposes Hillary for the VP ticket because "Big Daddy" Bill will cause a lot of trouble for Obama's administration if the Clintons move back into the White House and will thwart his agendas. I am not confident that the Clinotns will be loyal to Obama nor would like to see him succeed.

Thirdly, I personally think that putting Clinton on the ticket will energize the conservative republicans to come out in droves to vote against Hillary.

Obama must drop out and Clinton shouldn't pick him as veep cause he is the loser

You americans are so funny, because so stubborn. You get manipulated all the time and all around the world people think, how can this happen. But you are even proud to be so stubborn, because you think that it's a sign of strengh. You think, to be stubborn prevent you to be manipulated ... what would you say to your child, if he act so stubborn?

I just don't buy the threat from so called "die hard Hillary supporters" that they'd vote for McCain. They're saying "I'm a die-hard supporter of Hillary, but I don't believe any of her policy positions matter, nor do I care about Universal Healthcare, Roe v. Wade, bringing home the troops, or the middle class." What in the world are they supporting her for then? Just for the sake of saying they supported a woman? Then put Kathleen Sebelius on the ticket. There's a woman whose smart, has actually governed, is actually LIKED by her constituents, actually LIKES and supports Obama, and is from a red state rather than one we'd win anyway.
Hillary fans love to say that we bash Hillary just because she's a woman. They are too blind to see that we bash her because she's a self-serving, conniving egomaniac who has put her own good FARRRRR before that of the party for two months now. She and Obama have zero chemistry... basically there's no good reason to have her on the ticket. It demeans Obama, takes away from his core message, and will make it MUCH harder for him to govern.

Before this campaign, I thought Obama/Clinton was the dream ticket. Then Bill Clinton lost his charm, Hillary started acting like Karl Rove, and suddenly the Clinton's were a lot less appealing.

If Wes Clark or Anthony Zinni will come on board early as Sec Def or some similar advisor to alleviate the National Security issue, I'd say take Sebelius or maybe Mark Warner as VP. (They may not be eligible for Sec Def because have to be retired 10 years first.) Otherwise, it may have to be Jim Webb, though his family life (three wives, current one Asian) and novels with "graphic" writing will be fodder for Faux News. I'm not a fan of picking another Senator for VP... we need them in the Senate.

NO, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, helllllll no.

This is backwards. The question is:
SHOULD HILLARY PICK OBAMA AS VEEP.
Given what we found out Obama after Iowa and NH--the REZKO crap-HE is unelectable in the Fall.

If the Primary was to begin today Hill-Billy would not get half the votes they have now that people see her as she is. Voters had a good feeling about Hillary but that has evaporated, the only people she appeals to now are those who would are not pro white but anti black. That voting block is small and has never represented America. Hill has nothing to offer to be considered as a VP. When she gets back to NY she can kiss her Senate Seat goodbye also. And Billy will have to move his office out of Harlem. She has chosen to go out in a Blaze of Disgrace. The Party Elders: Ted Kennedy, Jimmy Carter etc., are directly telling her to drop out. As we know now Hill-Billy doesn't listen to no one but her own ego and personal ambitions.

Senator Obama has conducted himself throughout ths campaign with more dignity, more consistency, and more honesty than Senator Clinton. Lately, he has proven he is no lightweight either. He acts presidential. She acts like something's been stolen from her. It's called a competition. They played hard, and by the rules, Senator Obama has won. The Democratic Party doesn't "owe" Senator Clinton anything. Senator Clinton, if she's really committed to fighting for all Americans as she claims, will bow out gracefully, fight for her party's nominee, and maybe she might be offered a cabinet position later on. She does not complement Senator Obama's message or style. Lastly, with her on the VP ticket, every Republican will come out of the woodwork to vote against Senator Obama, and she'll cause Senator Obama to lose a good deal of the independents (like me) who support him now--as long as ANYONE but Senator Clinton is on the VP slot.

I will not vote Obama if he picks Hillary as his VP. It shows that hes weak and spineless and it throws his whole message of change out the window. If I where him I'd rather drop the campaign and lgo back to the senate than give Hillary anything. If he loses some Clinton votes so be it. Its not worth keeping them.

I have to agree with Joan B that the much sought after "Bubba Vote" may change in nature once the choice is between an "old white guy war hero + VP CEO" vs. "pointy head intellectual black guy and uppity female." I'm an old southern girl myself and have served many years in the most manly branch of the services. I see how sexism has plagued this campaign. The talk of pant suits and "castrating" remarks reveal a deeply sexist frame of mind in the media... the ugly emails I get from whack-job family members prove that the media gets away with their behavior because it is not offensive to a lot of our citizens.

That being said -- I honestly think Sen. Clinton will be a liability on the ticket. Yes, she's been vetted, but we haven't really talked about her baggage in a while. Never mind that a lot of it probably isn't true, but it's been floating around in the minds of many since the early 1990's. It would come back immediately. She's marked, justly or unjustly, like some poor schlep falsely accused of rape or child molestation that clears his name in court, but no one reads the retraction.

Obama has to make a choice like Webb. John Edwards will be the new Att General. Sen Clinton does need to be put to work where she can make things happen. She's brilliant and tireless. In a way, VP would be a waste for her.

Obama would have to be a psychopath to bring the psychopath Hillary onto the ticket. The only thing that she has earned is prison, for her racism, and for her hoping that Obama will be assassinated. Hillary's recent cuddling up with Richard Mellon Scaife and Karl Rove, leaders of what she used to call "the vast right-wing conspiracy," is pure psychopathy.

Furthermore, what then would be left of Obama's claim to be a "change" candidate? Hillary on the ticket would also make Obama a hypocrite.

I doubt that Obama is either a psychopath or a hypocrite.

Furthermore, to bring her onto the ticket would be simply stupid, because she brings so many negatives and is so justifiably despised by so many people.

I doubt that Obama is either a psychopath or a hypocrite or stupid.

If Obama is all three, then I won't vote in the Presidential race against McCain; I'll take a pass on it.

No way, Clinton is not entitled to anything. And her racist supporters like Ferraro don't deserve to be pacified. The republican women who want to take their vote to McCain just do it, have fun being locked out when Obama wins the general. You are not going to blackmail the democratic party.Hillary and her divisive supporters have set feminism back 30 years. Its horrible and hopefully women can over come this setback.

Clinton is beyond vile.

Please contact Howard Dean (deanh@dnc.org) and Nancy Pelosi (http://speaker.house.gov/) to let them know how you feel. You can also go to this website and lobby the Uncommitted Superdelegates in each state (https://www.lobbydelegates.com/) Please take action.

Absolutely NOT!! Obama should not pick Hillary Clinton to be his VP. She will undermine him whenever she gets the chance. She will undermine him the same way she has undermined him in the primary race by trying to make him a weaker candidate going into the general election. With Bill in tow, Hillary may just do WHATEVER IS NECESSARY to become the president. After all, anything could happen, right? Anyone but Hillary. Besides those racists votes that she is so proud of winning are actually sexists too. I live in a rural part of georgia where highschool students are glowing over the progress of being able to have an integrated non-segrated prom as early as 2007!! I know how they think. Voting for Hillary for these racists was not a vote for Hillary but a vote against Obama. If Hillary were the nominee, they do not plan to vote for a woman in the general election. No one needs to tell me how they think, I live here. OBAMA08

Definitely NO!!!

The threat of Hillary supporters acting against a democratic agenda for the country by not voting or voting for McCain is totally selfish, self-serving and bullying.

On that account, along, the proposal should be rejected. But there are numerous other reasons to avoid "Billary" - most of which have already been mention here.

The character, integrity, modus operandi, and egos of Mr. & Mrs. Obama vs the Clintons are just too different for that match to work well. Ironically, tapping Hillary for veep would actually WEAKEN Mr.Obama in the GE because he'll lose more support (Repubs & Independents) than whatever disgruntled saboteurs might arise.
Plus, her Hillary-or-to-hell-with-it supporters would still not be fully satisfied having her as VP because they all feel she's ENTITILED to the Prez spot and think settling for 'runner-up' to Obama, of all people, is beneath her (just look at how she & Bill have regarded him during the campaign).

Sen. Obama CAN win the GE without HRC as VP, but she has the ability to help or [further] damage the prospects by the way she & Bill conduct themselves from here on out.

Obama supporters: why do so many of you have a hard time understanding why Hillary supporters won’t automatically support BO if he gets the election? You give the impression that it should be such an easy decision and say such negative things about us. You really need to ask why you could question Hillary supporters not voting for BO when the majority of you would not vote for Hillary. It is obviously a lot more to it than just the issues. VP is not good enough and would be a waste of her time. Even if she fully supports BO, it is not an automatic change of support for many of us. We don’t blindly follow the leader. He still has a lot to prove.

All candidates will bring about change…it’s inevitable with the state of America today. Character is a big factor in who we support. We know where we stand with Hillary. No matter what, she has proven herself to be consistent, intelligent, and strong. BO’s years of counsel with the Reverend really question his character, and it troubles me that is it’s so easy for you to overlook, and at the same time, continue the negativity for Hillary. That’s much more significant than many things that have come out about Hillary or McCain. I have a lot of question for BO before I support him as I would Hillary. It will get worse for him as the campaign continues. All candidates are human and he will have just as many known flaws when this is done. You are going to need our support. If you want to bring the party together for the issues, then you need to start showing us that you’re not extremists and hateful. Read your blogs and see how much negatively you generate.

I am an Independent and an Obama supporter. If somehow Clinton clinches the nomination, I will vote for her in November not because I am a fan of her style of politics but because I don't want another Republican president. I don't think America needs another 4 years of a Republicans in the White House. They have done enough damage to our nation. In the Democratic primary, the voters have made their choice, and their choice is Barack Obama.

But for all the Clinton supporters who say they won't vote for Obama and will rather vote for McCain instead. Well, it is your right to vote for whomsoever candidate you prefer, especially, if you're happy and satisfied with the direction Republicans have taken our nation. Please go ahead and vote for McCain but, may GOD silence your tongue permanently if you later complain about the way Republican administration is running this nation to the ground.

You have a choice between saving our Nation, the United States of America, and your candidate, Hillary Clinton. The choice in this election is not about the candidates, Obama or McCain. It's about who will lead our nation to better brighter future. The difference between Obama and McCain is as clear as day and night, past and future. The question is "which side are you on"?

Victor said it best. Secret Service better be on their toes !

The thought of Hillary as V.P. makes me absolutely sick. We all know that Hillary will do anything to win. ANYTHING!!! The mere word assination is ghoulish (look it up). You only need to think the worst and then think of Hillary. The timing is creepy: She talks asasination while Bill talks her up for V.P.
Absolutely awful!

How about Ron Paul and Bob Barr instead?

I'd call Obama the world's greatest idiot if he risked life and reputation to win with Hillary.

I'd sooner he lost alone than won with her.

He better be wise and remember all the signs she's given away in this nomination.

Boston Mayor, Thomas Menono against Obama-Clinton ticket. Read:
http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2008/05/23/menino_against_obama_clinton_ticket

I dont believe that Barack obama would be Hillary's choice for VP but then I could be wrong. Hillary would be looking for somebody who has more overall experience and Mr Obama certianly does not fit that category. GO HILLARY!

As much as I dislike Hillary and the prospect of a presidential dynasty, I would hold my nose and vote for her in November to keep the office away from McCain (who I used to admire and would have voted for).

Before Hillary supporters decide on staging their hissy fits and vote for McCain, they better think long and hard about what that will bring.

Kansas governor Kathy Sebelius should figure high on the list for Obama's VP.

As an amatuer investment adviser - if Obama picks Hillbillary as veep - i recommend buying stock in Secret Service agents, mirrors, thermometers, and food tasters.

Barbara Hodges 9:00 AM-
I think many of clinton's supporters identify with the candidate. It's almost as though you think you are she and you relate strongly with "what she's been through". You seem to be blinded by everything the clintons do or say and are enraged by anything the Obama people do or say. You seem to think that if she is chosen, your life will somehow be more worthwhile and significant. That somehow, if she is chosen, you will be fullfilled. Conversely, if she is not chosen, it is somehow a rejection of you. The clintons have fostered this kind of thinking, creating a cult-like following dependent upon the willing abandonment of thought. The clintons are about power. Power for themselves. Your loyalty to them is all they have left. When people talk about their lies, their racist remarks, their manipulation, you don't hear it or see it. In many ways, a presidential election is more about us than it is about the candidates. Who are we? How have we changed in the last four years? Are we about the future or are we clinging to some past that will never return?

Good grief!! Do the Obama supporters really not do ANY research on their candidate?? Do they merely listen to the sensationalism spewed forth on network news?!? I listened to Hillary's comments this weekend, and for anybody to draw something vindictive from the clear emphasis placed on timeline, has got to be an idiot!!
Obama's campaign sent out memos to fuel the fire, then later, Obama plays the good guy. hypocrite!

The reasons I won't vote for Obama are many, and not one of them being the reasons the Obama babes state.

One: Obama has earned millions of voters by telling them he isn't in the special interests' pockets. His supporters failed to do the research to find...Obama has taken more money from oil co. execs than hrc, he's taken more from the drug co. execs than hrc, he's paid the superdelegates far more money to date than hrc, he has former "registered" lobbyists working on his campaign as we speak. He's a hypocrite. Hillary takes this money as well, but she doesn't tell us supporters she doesn't!!! Check Factcheck.org for a change!!

Two: Obama speaks of being a unifier. Well, seems he wasn't interested in being this his first year in the US Senate. Lindsey Graham(R), stated Obama rarely worked across party lines, but Hillary, otoh, demonstrated a great ability to do this. Cokie Roberts said the same thing on TWWGS. Again, Obama. a hypocrite!

Third: Obama wants to change the world. Have any of you neophytes got any clue how he intends to do this? He had to get advice from Hillary and other Senators just two short years ago. Every President will bring "change". Hillary, with a woman's perspective, will be far more change than Obama could ever be. She actually has a proposal on her website of setting a goal to eradicate breast cancer within our lifetimes. She wants to prioritize womens' health issues and childrens' health issues that have been marginalized for far too long. Obama doesn't want "change"...why else does he align himself with the Senators who have been in Washington longer than anybody..e.g., Byrd, Kennedy, Kerry. Talk about dynasty!!

Fourth: Obama earned the reputation in the Il Senate as "gutless" and "absent", as one colleague said, Obama tended to be "gone" when time to make the tough votes. This explains why he has so many "present" votes.

Fifth: Obama is weak!! US Sen Ted Stevens said Obama "folded like a cheap suit" when time to take a stand. He's afraid to count all votes. He's afraid to debate without moderators. He's afraid to go on Bill O'Reilly. I've not seen a liberal weakling elected to the general in over 25 yrs.

Sixth: Read an article yesterday that confirmed what I had observed myself, comparing the candidates style when working the people lines. The article stated, Hillary is a people friendly person, shakes hands, accepts hugs, chats, and gives lots of autographs. Obama, otoh, is a finger pincher, doesn't like to shake hands, rarely gives autographs, and tries to skirt through the lines as quickly as possible. Seems Obama loves to hear himself speak on the large stage with his huge persona and preacher-like oratory, but he not so much wants to mingle with those testy voters..hmmm hypocrite.

Seventh: When running for his Il Senate race, Obama used procedural shenanigans to block other candidates from having their names on the ballot so he could run uncontested. He won, but gained some enemies in the process.

Eight: Emil Jones, Il. Senate, placed Obama's name on numerous pieces of legislation to pad BO's resume' for future ambitions, although Obama didn't do work on many of the bills. Some Senate colleagues were quite unhappy about this.

Nineth: Obama almost came to blows with a colleague in the IL Senate after BO mistakenly voted incorrectly, resulting in elimination of funds for a child welfare office in the colleague's district.

Tenth: Hillary hasn't run a single ad referring to Rev. Wright, Rezko, E. Jones, Ayers, ....she played softball with BO because the DNC forced her to make sure BO and all his supporters felt all warm and fuzzy. The Republicans will have a field day with all BO's associations. They certainly won't go easy on him as Hillary has.

Let's just suffice it to say...I find Obama disingenuous, hypocritical, dishonest, unqualified, and arrogant. Hillary has outworked him, knows more policy, listens...actually listens, has paid her dues, has the compassion/passion to see goals to fruition, is more honest, and just simply works her ever loving heart out!!

Obama injected the race card early on to solidify the black base. It worked wonderfully. He no longer had to even campaign in black districts or go to the Black Forum because he knew he had them in his back pocket. He knew the blacks would no longer consider all the civil rights and educations rights' work the Clintons have done, nor would they consider the Clinton Foundation giving more to fight aids in Africa than any other foundation..no, they'll think the Clintons are racists..yep, that's it!!

Maybe Obama can share his "arugula" with all his supporters...

As to Obama offering Hil the VP...I sure hope he doesn't, because I wouldn't want Hillary to accept such an offer, but she would probably be forced to accept if it were offered.

If the Obama supporters really want to follow the rules, I ask you..what do you think the DNC should do to BO for getting permission to run an ad in FL when he had agreed not to campaign? He still lost big, but shouldn't he be punished for not running state specific ads instead? As to the super d's, they are suppose to go with the candidate most likely to beat McCain, and at this time, that is Hillary. Also, there is no rule that says if you have a lead in delegates, we'll just declare you the winner. The delegate lead is not reflecting the popular vote, so if you really don't want the will of the people overturned, you'll be for Hillary. BO took his name off the ballot in MI because he had seen the polls showing him 20% down, he asked the voters to vote uncommitted. He knew exactly what he was doing. What a weakling...

Hillary should never have been pushed to get out of this race. Men have gone to the Convention many times...but never with the popular vote lead Hillary has. Ron Paul is gong to the Republican Convention and nobody is saying a darn thing about it. Hillary's supporters have a very good reason to be very angry. Did Hillary make mistakes in her campaign..absolutely, but that doesn't negate the fact she is the stronger candidate to defeat McCain. Hillary knows this, and if the party doesn't heed the warning, they deserve what is coming to them.

Give 'Em Hell Hillary !!!

In light of recent happenings, I honestly don't think HRC should be on the Obama ticket or even in his cabinet. For a seating US senator to play the "assassination card" on her opponent, it goes a long way in showing her dark side and I sure will not want someone w/ such a dark side in the White House. For me HRC is no good either as a president, vice or a member of the Obama cabinet. This is unfortunate, but true...

NO!!
No Clinton, no typical "say anything" politician, no Clinton machine, no pandering to the past will serve this country well.

Clinton on an Obama ticket will undermine his message of change and it would undercut an Obama administration's ability to truly reach across the aisle.

I am an Independent and I honestly see good aspects of both party platforms.

Did it occur to anyone, for example, that some of those voters in Appalachia might just vote McCain in November simply because of the Republican commitment to a "pro-life" platform? John McCain is much more moderate than most of the loud voices in his party and that is one reason that many people just might feel comfortable voting for him.

Barack Obama is the most intelligent Presidential candidate this country has seen in a very long time. He is also reasonable and consistent in every issue I've heard him speak on. Most importantly for me, he actually respects Christian values by "walking the walk".

Either Obama or McCain will offer some change, and both must select a VP who can, in reality, affirm a change ajenda.

What Bill Clinton wants is absolutely NOT important here. If Mrs. Clinton really wants to be viewed as a champion of women, she ought to be clear in running her own campaign (and her own political career), rather than leaving this leadership task to the men that she has.

I am a woman and Mrs. Clinton has never spoken for me. Beyond that, I do not appreciate that she and some of her supporters apparently feel that they can tell me (and other women) how we should think or who we should vote for.

The most important quality that our country needs in a President is to be a leader who can and will work respectfully and constructively with others to make necessary reforms, and set necessary priorities, for our nation.

If the Clinton machine forces Mrs. Clinton onto the Obama ticket, it will serve to sabotage that ticket. Is this the intention? Is this the way to set the stage for a "Clinton 2012" Presidential run?
If so, what does this say about the Clinton-commitment to the U.S. or to those fighting in Iraq, or to reforming health-care coverage for our citizens, or to anything else (other than self-interest)?

I did not vote for Mrs. Clinton and I will not vote for any ticket that she is a part of. This is because of what she says and how she interacts with the people she's supposed to work with. Sincerity, consistency, and a discernable understanding of how a wide variety of people think, are NOT qualities that she has demonstrated.

Obama is capable of unifying the party without putting Billary on the ticket. It's hard to imagine how he could achieve his vision with the Clintons flanking him. I'm very sorry to say that they are out of control, apparently desperate to hang onto power, and seriously off-base. No, no, no!!! Do not put Billary on the ticket. But, I doubt that we have to tell Obama what to do...you think he got where he is by being a pretty black guy? He'll figure it out.

For Obama to put Clinton on the ticket as VP is a bad idea. For one thing, she doesn’t stand for the true Change that Obama does. In addition, Senator Clinton is a polarizing figure who could stand in the way of Obama promoting many of his policies. She is also distrusted by too many Americans, as borne out in the polls---people who say they find her dishonest, even manipulative, a person who will do anything to achieve power. Unfortunately, that’s the impression many have of her. Even more threatening to Obama’s candidacy is the fact that the republicans will bring out all the old Clinton baggage---both Hillary’s as well as Bill’s---which will hurt the party and turn off voters in November. Obama has made a point of not bringing up all the old Clinton scandals---or even the recent ones---but the republicans won’t follow that policy. And while I know people have made much of Clinton being a ‘fighter’ in this campaign, fighting is why we have suffered so long with gridlock in Washington. Obama wants to Change that for something better.

I am sorry but I do not sense or feel that Senator Obama would be well advised to have Hilary Clinton as his VP. No matter what anyone would say or think Bill would be his third mate- and extremely influential with Hilary- that just would not bode well! I feel that Senator Obama can select wisely his own running mate! One thing I noted was that Hilary was not above playing dirty politics and I have not seen that in Barack- he is far more open and real than she is. I have found it particulary ridiculous for the more impoverished wage earners to think she is like them as a MULTI millionaire and the wife of a prior President! She has no impoverished financial moments and has not had in years and years. Her life has no relation to the poor of America. Her tactics have been mean spirited if not down right ugly! As a woman who is absolutely for the empowerment of women I did not find her way of being in this path particularly real or empowering. I think Barack Obama is a humanist, literate, and capable of the Native Intelligence it requires to be a President!

in the peace, misty

she hates Obama, why would he choose her?
Even if it helps the greater cause (winning the general). It is an unnatural match. I see a strong white male with some military background being a better balance.
There will be a female President someday. I am all for that but not the wife of a former prez running on his legacy. (Which is losing appeal)

The Hillary gang has betrayed the Democratic party by encouraging supporters to vote against the party when she loses. Hillary knows she is unelectable and can only achieve her desired power by default. Obama must choose a safe and sane VP

Obama fears the Clintons and after seeing that list of people who've died under suspicious circumstances during Bill's term, I would too.

Obama cannot make the frightful mistake of selecting Hillary as running mate.

He would cast a pall over his administration from the start, right when he wants to communicate freshness and a new start. She represents bitterness and an ugly style of politics.

And she and her sleazy husband would be looking over his shoulders, and second-guessing him, constantly.

Besides, she adds no strength to a ticket. She is extremely disliked by all Republicans and more than half of Democrats.

Obama, Drop Out !!!
The Obama Gang has betrayed the true democratic party. Clinton or McCain 2008

YES, A thousand times YES, a ticket of "BITTER"AND 'MISSPEAK" is just what the doctor ordered.

Please make my day and united the Democ"RATS" with the ticket of "BITTER AND MISSPEAK"

They truly are the agent of "CHANGE"

VJ Machiavelli
ps I also love "MISSPEAK AND BITTER"

Why on earth would Barack Obama want Hillary Clinton as his VP?

After her RFK comments, I thought this would no longer even be an issue.

hell noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Here's an important piece of advice: If it looks like it's going to be McCain/Palin anyway (and that should be a "no brainer" for Team McCain), McCain should announce NOW or VERY SOON, rather than later towards the convention. There's currently a growing chorus for Obama/Hillary (as VP) ticket (in fact the Dems are likely aware of the Palin phenomenon). If the GOP waits while movement for Hillary as VP grows -- even worse until after it is solidified that Hillary will/could be VP pick -- selecting Palin will be portrayed by Dems/liberal media more as a reaction by GOP selecting its own female (overshawdoing Palin's own remarkable assets), rather than McCain taking the lead on this. Selecting Palin now or early (contrary to the punditocracy) will mean McCain will be seen as driving the course of this campaign overwhelmingly, and the DEMS will be seen as merely reacting. And, there's absoultely no down-side to this because even if Hillary is a no-go as VP for Obama, the GOP gains by acting early. McCain the maverick. Palin the maverick. Do it now!

There's no reason, and actually substantial negative, in McCain waiting to see what the Dems do first insofar as his picking Palin as VP, because, no matter who Obama picks, Palin is by far (and I mean far) the best pick for McCain and the GOP, especially in this time of GOP woes. The GOP can be seen as the party of real 'change' (albeit I hate that mantra, change, change, bla bla), while not really having to change from GOP core conservative values, which Palin more than represents.

In light of the current oil/energy situation, as well as the disaffected female Hillary voters situation, and growing focus on McCain's age and health, Palin is more than perfect -- now.

(Perhaps Team McCain is already on to this.)

Clinton would be an unmitigated disaster for Obama.

Not only is she seething with resentment and poison but her husband is something millions just want to forget.

I cannot believe anyone seriously asks this question.

It really is almost as ridiculous as: Do you think Obama should have an Egyptian Cobra as a mascot he takes around with him?

Obama supporters can spin it anyway they want but more people voted for Hillary than voted for Barrack. Plain and simple. That is reason enough to have her on the ticket.

No. He should chose a running mate who provides more positives like Richardson, Edwards, or Kathleen Sebelius. There may be some Clinton supporters who really feel that another four years of Bush is the better choice if she's not on the ticket, but I doubt that will be a significant percentage after Obama reaches the delegate threshhold next week.

ABSOLUTELY NOT, should he pick HRC as his VP. No, no no no no! Did I say no? That ploy that all her supporters will sit home if she is not the nominee is just to try and force powers that be to make her the nominee. If her supporters are that stupid to vote for McCain or stay home when there is a chance to take this country in a better direction, then too bad, Obama does not need their vote then. They crack me up trying to hijack this election, trying to bribe, cajole, threaten. Bill Clinton's a blip with his rants too. Hillary was a candidate just like Barack. There is a winner and a loser, period. Hillary is the loser, period. And that gives her no reason to be on Obama's ticket. In fact that is the reason she should not be on his ticket. He can win the states without her so I pray he doesn't fall for that okeydoke. She is the bad apple in the barrel and if she's in Obama's barrel it too will get rotten throughout. She, and her cohorts, must accept the fact that she did not win this time and that's that. Now she must go away, turn around and walk away. Say goodnight, Hillary. And you and Bill get ready for your grandchildren.

hillary clinton should be vp she has the votes to back it up u cannot discount the votes she has gotten so far which is alot.

Should Barack Obama put Hillary Clinton on the ticket? You're kidding me, right? What would possess one to ask that question? There is no reason whatsoever for Mr. Obama to put Ms. Clinton on the ticket as vice president. He will need someone who will work with him, not against him.

I Hope Obama reads this blog and see the people are behind him. I really think it would be a mistake to pick Hillary as his VP. Here we are about to Make History as to who the democratic nominee winner is. But its seems to be a bigger story as too who lost and how. I feel that this type of stuff could follow Obama should he win it all and his views and goals for change could be lost. Because the same people pushing to get HRC on the ticket will follow her and her agenda and not his. Let the people enjoy what we have all done together. Then we can start a fair and open search for a Good VP.

No NO NOOO...

If we want a woman on the ballot, Kathleen Sebelius is a much better choice.

we voted for Obama because we hate hillary, now we will back McCain

Barak Obama has more to gain considering Bill Richardson or General Wesley Clark because they have solid foreign policy experience. Hillary is not an ideal choice for Barak Obama in my personal opinion for a Vice President. She clearly will clash with him.

You younger democrats do not understand the losing record of the democratic party. I have been voting democratic all my life, and I hate to say it, but there has been a long line of losers. The Clintons know how to win. You can't have your CHANGE without a win. Nothing happens unless you win. You could certainly use someone with Hillary's grit to WIN. WIN WIN WIN...
You think it is easy... it is not...

Obama should not pick Clinton as VP that will be the worst mistake ever, she will cause him lots of problems and even failure if she can and than say "see I told you so, he wasn't qualified, I should have been president not veep" that's just after she has him killed or at least attempt to have him killed if Bill doesn't kill him first...Obama would lose the faith of his loyal supporters and people who "do" believe in him...as she stands for the same old junk no change just her ego...chose another women if you must but no, not Hillary
