Fox's E.D. Hill in flap over words on Barack and Michelle Obama's fist bump.

The Swamp

by James Oliphant

If this first week of the general-election campaign is any indication, it's going to be a long, hot, dry summer. And not just on the ground in Washington.

A dust-up is taking place between liberal watchdogs Media Matters and Fox News over one anchor's remark over the now-famous "fist bump" Barack and Michelle Obama exchanged last week before Obama's speech in Minnesota.

Fox anchor E.D. Hill suggested one interpretation of the fist bump was a "terrorist fist jab."

Media Matters has already launched a petition drive objecting to Fox's characterization.

Watch now as the Swamp goes meta-meta, giving you MSNBC pundits talking about the Fox anchor's remark on the fist bump:

And see the bump that started it all:

UPDATE: E.D. Hill, who started this brouhaha last week, has had her show canceled by Fox, although no reference was made about her linking Obama to terrorism. Hill also apologized Tuesday for her remark.

Uh, Swamp, if you're going to label Fox News the "right", shouldn't you label the Swamp the "left"?

After all, a lot more Liberal Dems work for Fox than the Swamp has conservatives.

Responders, please show any proof that even one Swamp regular writer voted for Bush in 2004, as the majority of Americans did.

Fox Noise channel lost all of their credibility a looooooooong time ago.

This may the silliest thing I've ever seen. A fist bump is now a sign of terrorist sympathies?

Even sillier is the response from Bruce. Bruce, the post never labels Fox as the "right". The only group labeled is "liberal" Media Matters.

The terrorist fist bump is the first thing you learn in terrorist training camp. Interns spend many weeks getting just the right nuance of this highly complicated maneuver. Whenever you are in a tricky situation and you want to know if the other person is truly a fellow terrorist instead of a spy from the DHS, you try the fist jab. The uninitiated think you are just screwing up the high five sign and don't know quite how to respond. The adept Fox News personnel have cleverly discovered this little secret and now the terrorists will have to spend many hours in preparing a new sign and re-training thousands of terrorists world-wide.......NOT!

Other than RNC Bruce, is there really anyone out there who considers Fox Noise a "real" news outlet anymore?

Buchanan has been known to be out dated, but I have to admit this was hillarious. He's a sport, and to take it in stride with Ali G shows that he's not totally full of himself.

Oh, and E.D. Hill's 'news' show has been canceled.

This is outlandishly shameful. Republicans are trying their best to lable the man as a Muslim. They might as well keep lying. Weapons of Mass Destruction, Scooter Libby, and now Obama and his wife are Terrorists. These folks are evil. I'm sorry, but I have to conclude that because they are misleading Americans who believe their crap. Got us into a war with a bunch of lies, and now they are trying to lie their way back in the Whitehouse! Evil.

Bruce at 2:51. Was that a Freudian slip? There is no mention of the "right".

What a silly item for the Swamp. And, using Media Matters and MSNBC as noted sources? Media Matters, in particular, has all the credibility of a Jayson Blair news story.
And John E., there is probably more legit news and more diverse thought on the Fox News Channel than exists in any other television news outfit.
Bruce also brings up a good point. I wonder how many Chicago Tribune reporters, and especially those in DC, voted for Bush or have ever voted Republican.

News release: Dunkin Donuts had to scrap the follow up marketing plan to the infamous Rachel Ray terrorist scarf. They were going to replace it with an ad of a Dunkin Donuts employee fist bumping a customer who was happy with their new iced coffees. Dunkin Donuts scrapped the plan for fear of looking like terrorist: (place label here) Supporter, sympathizer, recruiter, etc.

What a joke. Does anybody take Fox News seriously?

No, he's too full of OTHER stuff to be full of himself.

As someone who thinks very highly of McCain and Clinton and very poorly of Obama I must state that the terrorist fist bump is just plain stupid. I mean lets not get crazy. However to signal that Fox is biased and call it the Right but not refer to MSNBC as biased is a joke in of itself. Both Mathews and Olberman have an agenda and Olberman is as much a joke as Rush Limbaugh. See that is what us sane and moderate people understand. You cant in one hand rag on Limbaugh and Hannity and the other commend Mathews, Olberman and Air America. I didnt hear the swamp writers protesting when Olberman was referring to Hagee as McCains personal pastor. That was a lie and Olberman knew it, but his agenda was to get rid and attack Hillary and now he has turned his focus to McCain. At least Fox News lets both sides have a say whereas Every single MSNBC contributer is a hard core lefty from Air America. As a moderate I am fed up with writers/pundits with an agenda. The Eric Zorn, Rush Limbaugh, Olberman,s of the world are really what is bringing political discourse to a vile and ugly place. The blatant attacks and hatred that Olberman shows towards McCain is really despicable. As a war hero McCain has EARNED THE RESPECT of every AMerican. People like Olberman who have never sacrfificed anything for anyone but themselves attacking a war hero like McCain is really pathetic. O'Reiley crushes Olberman in the ratings for a reason. They even moved one of Olbermans time slots because he was getting killed so bad by Bill O in the ratings. Obama does exactly what Bush did to Kerry. He gives the lame "I respect his service line" and then immediately attacks McCain who has earned the respect of every American. I found it despicable when Bush did it to Kerry and it is even more despicable when Obama does it. Bush never pretended to be above the fray the way Obama does. Obama talks more about McCain than he does about anything else.

Obviously those that work at Fox news dont practice what they preach with family values. if they did, they would see their own children fist bumping all the time. These people, FOX News and those of you who watch it are just not on this planet!
Oh and by the way the color purple (Michelles dress) is used as a comand code for barney sightings in Afganistan!

So players in the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB are terrorist sympathizers? This has got to be an article straight out of the Onion. I feel sorry for the poorly educated rubes who waste their time at Fox News.

What does voting for Bush has anything to do with this story about a Fox anchor foaming in the mouth again? Wait never mind, I forgot it's a very Republican thing to do, to call for distraction when confronted about their wrongs.

And since when has voting for Bush become something to brag about? Heck, even McCain is distancing himself away from Bush.

"JT", "Todd", you seem strangely oblivious or unaware of the Swamp's practice of re-writing their articles. In this instance, after I pointed out their leftie labeling bias, they simply rewrote the original article.

In fact, as the re-written article reads now (4:15 p.m.), it labels Fox a liberal watchdog! "A dust-up is taking place between liberal watchdogs Media Matters and Fox News ..." Yes, the Swamp can't even get its rewrites correct!

McCain is distancing himself away from Bush.

Really? When did that happen?

talk is cheap, Royce...

Unfortunately, most of Fox News viewers (and most Americans) don't think for themselves. When they are lied to and told it's news, they believe it. That's why Fox News is so dangerous to our country.

First the big "flag pin" scandal, and now this. Fox News is just TOO STUPID!

But Fox has its constituency, I guess! There's still a certain percentage of slack-jawed yokels who can't sleep at night worrying about whether Obama is a secret Muslim.

Green Trees, I have to admit, I have heard things on Fox that I would hear on no other network. They do have more diversity in right wing opinions, from obnoxious self-promoting types like Coulter to the utter loons like Malkin with her scarf phobia. This "terrorist fist bump" is just another weird, wacky example of the Fox News experience. They are the absolute best if you're looking for ridiculously biased and completely idiotic reporting.

Wow, I can't believe Bush would do a 'Repressed Gay Waist Bump' on National TV!

O'Reiley crushes Olberman in the ratings for a reason. They even moved one of Olbermans time slots because he was getting killed so bad by Bill O in the ratings.

Vinny, more bad news for you and Bill-O, via this press release:

"MSNBC continued its ratings surge last week, with viewers flocking out of the "No Spin Zone" and to "The Place for Politics." For the first time ever, MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" was the #1 show at 8 p.m., out-drawing Fox News's "O'Reilly Factor" head-to-head among Adults 25-54. This is the first time since June 2001 that MSNBC has out-rated "The O'Reilly Factor" at 8 p.m".
-
"Excluding Tuesday's primary coverage, "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" averaged 477,000 A25-54 vs. 472,000 for the "Factor."
-
"MSNBC also out-drew Fox News Channel for the week in primetime (June 2-8, M-F, 8-11 p.m.), averaging 496,000 Adults 25-54 vs. 449,000. This is the first time MSNBC beat FNC for the week in primetime since Feb. 25, 2008, when MSNBC telecast exclusive coverage of the Democratic candidates debate. Prior to that, the last time MSNBC beat FNC in primetime was the week of July 30, 2001."

The 25-54 demographic is the holy grail of programming, as it's that group that buys stuff, hence making them valuable to advertisers. Including all viewers, O'Reilly's elderly audience still likely swamps Olbermann. But even on that front, Olbermann has been chipping away.

It's clear that Fox News isn't immune to the conservative malaise spreading through the land.

And it's also clear that Olbermann is one of the chief beneficiaries of the progressive wave sweeping the land.

I do the "FIST", nothing wrong with it.

What is wrong is that Obama is supported by and owned by the "RICH ELITES". He keeps saying I am one of "YOU" but the "YOU" he means is the "ELITE RICH YOU"

Thats who he was talking to when he said "BITTER".

is there really anyone out there who considers Fox Noise a "real" news outlet anymore?

Fox News has more viewers on an average night than CNN & MSNBC combined. I suppose the moonbat who wrote this thinks the toxic waste dump Keith O presides over is "real news?"

The loudmouth moron has no conservatives on his show & usually has pliant half-wits like himself to bounce his garbage & lies off of.

Those "special comments" are as special as a blue plate in a greasy spoon diner.

Does Fox news ever cover sports? Over about the last five years or so, the "FIST BUMP" has pretty much replaced the "HIGH FIVE" as the primary, congrtulatory greeting when a player comes to the sideline, bench, etc. Heck, I see my nephew's little league baseball team fist bump each other all the time. If Fox saw that, I'm sure they would investigate whether those kids were being educated at a local Madrassa.

Why are republicans bringing up how many people on certain networks vote republican? Come on, are you honestly saying that Fox News is anything more than propaganda? "Terrorist fist bump" who would ever think of that over a fist bump? This isn't a democratic or republican issue. Fox News is a disgrace and is very racist and because they have high ratings. lou "I hate mexicans" Dobbs is on CNN and MSNBC has gone w/ liberal propoganda man Obermann Fox has led in this Fear and hate based reporting. It's terrible for the country... it divides us at a time when we need to solve real problems or fall behind the rest of the world. it's a new day and we are going to wake up and realize we have been distracted for a long time. Vietnam occured again and noboy cares. That is sad
