Holding true to the belief that a congressman can be criticized for pretty much anything, The Hill reports an Illinois representative was spotted at the Capitol wearing attire fit for dancing to "Disco Inferno."
Quoting a "spy," the newspaper reported Rep. Timothy Johnson (R-Ill.) was walking through the Speaker's Lobby recently in "a bright ruby-red shirt with large lapels unbuttoned to the chest, a black blazer, black trousers and a thick gold chain with charms. One observer remarked that he resembled an extra in the movie 'Saturday Night Fever.'"
Johnson, who is better known for his support of the farm operators in his congressional district and educational benefits for veterans, flatly denied having anything to with the disco world.
He gave this explanation of his outfit : his shirt seemed open, because he probably loosened his tie around his neck upon returning from the airport, the shirt is a dress shirt and the chain is a religious symbol with charms of a cross, fish and WWJD (What Would Jesus Do?).
He admitted he is not much of a stylish dresser.
Kevin Harter, Bloomingdale's vice president of fashion direction, tells The Swamp the right look for Capitol Hill is classic and sophisticated. For men, he suggests power suits, pocket squares and tie clips.
"I personally like to see my politicians dressed up," Harter said. "I think the good news is now that's also the fashion trend. They can look fashionable at the same time ... A good politician can also be a fashion icon at the moment."
"I want my representative to look very sophisticated out there. I don't want to see my congressman looking like a 70s disco icon."

You have got to be kidding me. Is People magazine going to be opening a Washington bureau?
Give me a break and leave the guy alone. This stuff doesn't belong on this blog.
