John McCain vs. hecklers: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Katie Fretland

Sen. John McCain found himself attempting to talk over three anti-war protestors who interrupted his speech at a small business summit today in Washington. To overcome the heckling, the presidential hopeful tried humor.

Amid one woman's shouts of, "War is bad for small business," McCain began to talk about the importance of public discourse.

"You know one of the things that Americans are tired of ... One of the things they're tired of is people yelling at each other," he said. "Americans want a dialogue."

When another woman began shouting later, McCain dug up this piece of presidential lore.

"You know one of my political memories was when Ronald Reagan said, 'There you go again,'" McCain said. "There you go again."

And finally, when he faced a third protester, McCain simply said, "I'm running out of funny lines."

more like running out of using other peoples lines! What a joke this guy is!

Why do folks on the Left continually try to prevent those they disagree with from speaking? Why is the Left so afraid of free speech and various thought other than their own?

As this campaign continues into the summer and fall, it's likely that there'll be a lot more heckling happening, for both candidates. McCain is to be commended for handling this situation with calm and aplomb.

Greeny, no one is stopping anyone from speaking. Quit crying all the time, would ya?

With a name like Green Trees you'd think he'd be one of the hecklers! The reason why people on the left heckle those on the right is because the right has destroyed our country's liberties, freedoms and ECONOMY! The right has destroyed our standing in the world community with their lies and agresive war mongering fear rhetoric behavior. Thats why the left heckles Mr green Tree.
You want to heckle at Obama for wanting to end an unjust war, end poverty and end no healthcare for millions of children be my guest. Lets see how far that will get you!

If he's running out of funny lines maybe he should try Spiro Agnew's old trick. When interrupted by hecklers, Agnew would pull out a sports whistle and blow it. It was good for a few laughs. And then Agnew got indicted, and the whistling went away. How sad.

"I'm running out of funny lines."

I'm deeply offended that this man would think issues of war and peace should be met with "funny lines." Those are Americans yelling at you, sir. If you want to represent them as their president, you don't say "funny lines" when they raise issues of war and peace. How pathetic.

Yeah, just try heckling the anointed one and you will be shushed into oblivion, right wing losers!

Heckling only works if you are heckling truth to power, not heckling lies to the Lightworker. It works in the opposite way then, its not free speech, its not progressive and totally lame, "Green Trees!"

Hmm, sounds like a CIA code name from the "Bush" administration. I wouldn't put it past 'em...

..we better get some more hecklers out there to heckle McSame...that will totally show him that he is the same as Bush and a loser.

McCain needs to give it up, he's making statements and forgetting what he says later, making slips of the tounge (like saying BEER instead of a BILL) and worst of all saying "BOMB, BOMB IRAN". We don't need another BUSH 3rd term.

What else can we expect out of someone who sings a SONG about bombing Iran??? It seems to these war mongers life"is just a bowl of cherries!"

What is ironic is thsat you never see the dem canidates getting heckled. Could it be that conservatives will listen and act like adults, but the libs will just shout people down. If they have nothing to say, they just say it the loudest, like a child seeking attention.

Expect more of the same you old WAR MONGER!

After the last seven years of Bush/Cheney warmongering and death and destruction..and the wingnuts still wonder why John "100 years in Iraq, bomb bomb Iran" McCain is getting heckled?

I'm sure there's a name for whatever psychological glitch that is involved in Republic Party members brains.

The wingnut insanity sequence:

1. Your life situation is terrible.
2. You vote Republican. They win.
3. Your life situation continues to be terrible.
4. You vote Republican again. They win again.
5. Your life situation gets even worse than it's ever been before.
6. You blame it on liberals and vote Republican again. They win again.
7. Rinset and repeat.

No, it makes no sense to me either...

McCain - he's the same as Bush only (much) older:

McCain vs. hecklers. Hecklers win. FREE BIRD! I don't want any part of McCain and I found his talking points on the economy disturbing. I respect that he was a POW but he seems to me to be wrapping himself in the Bush legacy of fear and corruption. Tax cuts for the rich and more war. I don't see that as anything good. But that's just my opinion. I'm voting Democrat.

Whoever wins please bring home our troops. They have performed bravely and we are proud, but enough is enough!
