by Mark Silva
In the continuing series of video-chats with author Matt Welch, he discusses the role of religion in Sen. John McCain's life and politics.
Welch "speaks of McCain's regrets about going too far in his 2000 remarks about the religious right, his courting of the religious right within the Republican Party this election season and the stark differences between the roles of Rev. Wright in Barack Obama's life and Rev. Hagee in the McCain campaign.,'' Andrew Malcolm tells us at Top of the Ticket, playing host to the author of McCain: The Myth of a Maverick.

Comments
John McCains maverick status is just that a myth! He's a flip-flopping PANDER BEAR of the first order. Dumped his first wife and married a rich chick to boot.

How would the media react if Obama called prominent religous leaders "Agents of intolerance" and then years later in his quest for the Presidency rushed out to seek the endorsements of these "Agents" and denied he ever made the comments and declared that he does not feel they are agents of intolerance?

I can't wait to see the Swamp six-part series on "The Case Against Barack Obama" with video interview clips when it comes out later this summer. After all, you've given six posts to a partisan book that attacks McCain. It's only fair that you give equal time to a similarly inspired Obama book. Unless, of course, you're not shy about showing your bias.

Six swamp posts about an interview with the author of an attack book on McCain and not a single post about the New York Times story describing how Obama is bought and paid for by the ethanol industry.
And you still won't post my question about whether there will be six posts (with video) about the upcoming Obama attack book?
You guys are a disgrace and should be ashamed of yourselves.

Jeff, I'm waiting for the article about how McCain's primary campaign was underwritten to the tune of a million dollars by a repressive foreign regime. The Saudis paid the National Co-chairman of his campaign over a million dollars while he was working full time for McCain, a period during which he did not recorded work for the Saudis. McCain is bought and paid for by a radical Islamic dictatorship. His campaign is a disgrace.

Are you kidding me? You're really going after McCain for connections to our allies in Saudi Arabia? Do the names Tony Rezko and Nadmi Auchi mean anything to you? You do realize that Obama has a 20-year political patron relationship with Syrian and Iraqi financiers like Rezko and Auchi, don't you? One of them's been convicted of Illinois machine political fraud and is awaiting sentencing and the other one has ties to Saddam's Baathist regime. Nice company that hopey keeps.

How rich!!! McCain employs agents of some of Earth's most repressive regimes and Jeff's response is that Obama bought a large home for a low price? Only an idiot would shop around looking for the highest price to pay. Obama is a smart consumer, that's not a negative.

I would love for McCain to travel around Middle America and boast that he has connections to our "allies" in Saudi Arabia. The same Saudi Arabia ruled by fat corrupt sheiks who buy diamond encrusted Mercedes and hold telethons donating gold and cash to Hamas and Hezbollah with the gobs of money they have been making since GWB took office and the price per barrel shot thru the roof. Do you think before you type Jeff?

Ignorant, Jackson, I know you don't read much but surely you know that Rezko and Auchi (who has ties to Saddam's "most oppressive" Baathist regime) have given Obama millions in campaign contributions over a period of 20 years, don't you? You aren't really dumb enough to believe that the house is the only connection between Obama and his 20-year political patron, Rezko, are you? Really? You're really that uninformed?
Posted by: Jeff | June 24, 2008 12:59 PM
Julia, do you read before you type? The Saudi government is diametrically opposed to Hezbollah and backs their political opponents. Hezbollah strongly criticized the Saudi government over it in February. "This [Saudi] accusation against the opposition harms the kingdom's role and raises big question marks about its position and role in the Lebanese political crisis," Hezbollah said in a statement.

It is amazing to me the level of ignorance you Obama sheep show here on a daily basis. They're similarly opposed to Hamas. Please educate yourself before posting again.

SIX episodes of this attack on McCain?
Mark Silva and Matt Welch are auditioning for jobs in the Obama White House.

Jeff,
What laws did Obama break? The FACTS are Obama bought a cheap mansion and Rezko is going to jail for deeds unrelated to Obama. Get a life.

Yes Jeff, I'm going after Mccain for letting his campaign be financed by a foriegn power, even one that is nominally an ally. You may be willing to overlook that un-american act, but I'm not. You may be happy that one of the worlds chief financers of radical islam is funding your candidate campaign staff, but I'm not. What has McCain promised them for their support? What american interests will he betray for his Saudi supporters?
Everyone knows that if an Obama advisor was on the payroll for millions from a radical Islamic Government while he worked full time for Obama, you'd be screaming about treason. In this instance you show just how blind to reality your love of McCain has made you.

Jeff,
Sue me. So apparently the fat corrupt Saudi sheiks are only fond of Hamas and give them all of the money they raise in their telethons. That makes me feel so much safer. K-Street nailed you. Fool.

Jeff,
Why do you say that Myth of a Maverick is an "attack book"? Have you read it? I thought you were proud of your candidate's conservative credentials. One could argue that McCain is getting positive coverage from these interviews. You and fellow RNC employee Bruce are just blowing a lot of hot air. Waaaaaaa!
