In 2000, there was a group known as Democrats for Bush. It wasn't a big group, but they made their point, and a lot of them got appointments after Bush won the White House.
Now, with apologies to Orson Welles, there is "Citizens for McCain," an organization spearheaded by none other than Sen. Joe Lieberman, the independent from Connecticut who ran as the Democratic Party's candidate for vice president in 2000.
"Citizens for McCain is an organization within the McCain campaign for people who put country before political party and support the presidential candidate who has a proven record of bipartisanship," Lieberman said of this collection of independents and Democrats aligning with the Republican Party's presumptive nominee for president.
Their first act: "a virtual town hall'' today, a telethon of sorts, with Democrats and Independents discussing McCain's promise for the presidency.
The roster:
Former Phoenix Mayor Paul Johnson (Arizona)
Former Arizona State Legislator Phil Hubbard (Arizona)
Mammoth Mayor Craig Williams (Arizona)
Former Arizona LULAC Director Ray Gans (Arizona)
Democratic 25th Precinct Chair Silverio "Silver" Salazar (Colorado)
Adviser to Democratic Presidential Candidates and Georgetown University Professor Robert Lieber (District of Columbia)

These people show the reson why us McCain supporters feel so strongly about him. As someone who voted for Kerry I must say that McCain represents how I feel about my country. The country should always come first before your own party. I know McCain feels that way. If it were any other Republican besides McCain I would have no interest in them. As an Independant that leans Democrat I must say it is an honor to support McCain. He has proved his worth as an Independant person by standing up against the hard core wing of his own party. He is without a doubt the best choice for the next president. He has faced a tougher test than anyone on this board ever has. Being a POW for 6 years and being tortured is worse than anything any of us will ever have to go through. McCain passed with flying colors. He could have left earlier but he refused to be released until everyone was. THere is noone that deserves to be president more than John McCain.

FOX Admits McCain Stacked Townhall:
After reporting that the McCain campaign held a townhall with Democrats and Independents, Fox's Shepard Smith admitted that the McCain campaign had done no such thing. "We have now received a clarification from the campaign and I feel I should pass it along to you. The McCain Campaign distributed tickets to McCain supporters, mayor Bloomberg, who of course is a registered Republican, and other Independent groups."

Vinny,
You just stumbled into one of the biggest problems with the Republican Party - entitlement.
Seniority doesn't count. Last person standing doesn't count. This isn't reverse musical chairs.
It's all about the policies and who's best to lead - and that's Barack Obama.

McCain doesn't have "open" town hall meetings, it is stage managed and manipulated from start to finish.
The McCain team manages the questions so the answers can be scripted ahead of time. There are nothing BUT "softball " questions or setups for their talking points to be repeated and reinforced. Penetrating that management and slipping in a genuine (unrehearsed by the candidate) question that requires the speaker to respond on their feet in real time is the whole point of a Town Meeting!
McCain simply isn't up to it and his campaign is afraid of any sort of open genuine free wheeling discourse. McCain is not strong enough or flexible enough to handle that format regardless of his purely postural PR demands fo 10 of them!

I'm not sure how Vinny thinks that McCain has stood up to the "hard core wing of his own party." First he was against Bush's tax cuts (he thought they were a corporate give away that ignored the plight of the middle class), and now he's for them. He was against torture during interrogation. Now he's for it. He's was against pandering to the 'agents of intolerance' such as Jerry Falwell. Now he shares stages with him. He says he supports 'every investigation' into the botched Katrina response. He's now voted twice against an investigation.
McCain has flip-flopped, pandered and floundered on just about every issue worth mentioning. His moral compass seems to be consistent only in that it points steadfastly to the White House. He'll do anything, say anything and change everything to get there.
That's not leadership. That's cheap political practice.

Can you imagine what the Swamp would do if a delegate to the GOP National Convention publicly stated she was going to vote for Obama?
There'd be 10 Swamp articles written in 10 minutes.
But exactly the opposite has happened, in neighboring Wisconsin. A delegate to the Dem National Convention has publicly stated she'll vote for McCain.
"Washington - As an avid supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Debra Bartoshevich is not alone in her frustration over Clinton's defeat.
She’s not alone in refusing to support Barack Obama.
And she’s not entirely alone in saying she’ll vote this fall for Republican John McCain instead.
But what makes her unusual is that she holds these views as an elected delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer.
“I’m sure people are going to be upset with me,” said Bartoshevich, a 41-year-old emergency room nurse from Waterford in Racine County, and convention delegate pledged to Clinton."

Why would anyone but the farthest left 25% want Obama/Pelosi/Reid running our country?
