Obama-Clinton marathon near the line: The Swamp

By the numbers, after five gruelling months of primary voting and caucuses, Barack Obama stands about 50 delegates shy of the number needed to clinch the Democratic Party's presidential nomination.

That number was bumped up to 2,188 over the weekend, with the Democratic National Committee's rules and bylaws committee's decision to count the disputed delegations of Florida and Michigan with half-votes for each delegate.

Incomplete results of the Puerto Rico party primary, which Hillary Clinton carried overwhelmingly on Sunday, winning by a near 7-3 margin, left Obama just 51 delegates shy of the 2,118 neeed - with 2,067 to Clinton's 1,907.

Clinton maintained that the outcome of the Puerto Rican vote bolsters her case to the party's decisive superdelegates that she should be the nominee because she is winning in the sheer vote. "We are winning the popular vote," Clinton told supporters in San Juan. "Now there can be no doubt."

Obama, at a rally in Mitchell, S.D., a state that will hold one of the final primaries in the five-month marathon of the Democratic contest, said he had called Clinton to congratulate her. Clinton, he said, "is going to be a great asset when we go on to November to make sure we defeat the Republicans.''

Obama's communications director, Robert Gibbs, had said Sunday that the senator from Illinois may clinch the nomination after this week's contests in South Dakota and Montana, which together hold 31 delegates. "Sometime this week, we'll probably have a nominee for the Democratic Party," he said.

In South Dakota and Montana, the Clinton campaign is airing television commercials trumpeting her as the candidate who has won more votes than "any primary candidate in history." The ad says: "Some say there isn't a single reason for Hillary to be the Democratic nominee. "They're right. There are over 17 million of them'' - the number of primary votes she claims.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean and other party leaders are urging the party's remaining uncommitted superdelegates to make a choice once the nominating contests are concluded this week.

By the numbers, the days are dwindling.

Make Every Hillary Vote Count! The Michigan voters who were told the votes wouldn't count, should have come and voted anyway, but they didn't. If they had voted for Hillary, their vote would count, you should have known Hillary would make it happen. If you didn't vote or voted 'uncommitted' your vote is non existent or in limbo, so you should vote for Hillary the only Vote that Counts! According to Ickes that's because its not her fault.

If the Democrat Comintee keeps shafting Hillary, will be four years wasted for the Democrats-
Stay in their Hillary you are the only Democrat hope-

Don't quit, Hillary!

We didn't need a silly little united Democratic party, anyway!

Hillary will be cleaning up in Montana or will the state bird be picking her clean. Or will she start crawling to Denver?

YOUNG HILLARY

This video says it all re: delegate count!!!

Obama will not get the nomination this week if the super delegates who are uncommitted realize Obama cannot defeat the GOP machine which is going to go after him throughout the general election. He cannot win in Nov.

This is another driveby media rant to force B Hussein Obama as the Democrat nominee.Nevermind he wasn't on the ballot in Florida or Michigan he miraculously was given half the delegates when they didn't vote for him.
The drivebys are giving us no choice its their way or the highway.
Obamanomics laid out by this tax and spender will cost us some 4327 billion dollars and his tax raising schemes will bankrupt our nation.
He will bring back Jimma Carters Fed reserve Chair Paul Volcker can 22.5 per cent interest rate be far away. Welcome to the 70's drivebys you are doing terrible things to a nation that needs help in a recession. Volcker like Obama is a terrible choice.
the man is dysfunctional and so are his friends and associates throwbacks to socialist academia.
John McCain will knock him out in November. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

OBama can win and will win if the Demoncratics stop all the bickering! You know those white men NEVER want to see a WOMAN elected, its been said on CNN, and FOX that people would rather vote for a Black man than a FEMALE, women will always be second and white men know this!

Obama is crawling and gasping for breath as he crosses the finish line. He has lost 8 of the last 11 contests, several by wide margins. He is a deeply flawed candidate who has aligned himself with hard-left hate for decades, which explains why he has proven himself to be a much better divider than uniter.

Yes, let's elect McCain and keep with the same failed policys of the last 8 years. Those have worked very well. Our country is in great shape right now, and will get even better with McCain at the helm. His main strength is the economy, he's admitted that. Wait, I am being sarcastic. God help us if we have to endur four more years of lies and deceit.

i understand that it's difficult for hillary supporters to view the recent events objectively, but only by stepping back can one begin to realize how ridiculous her claims and her supporters have been.

first, she AGREED that florida and michigan wouldn't count. at the time she agreed, she didn't think it would matter - remember when she was the "inevitable" candidate? now that it's close, she's completely going back on her word and making all this noise about popular votes and disenfranchisement. i more disingenuous argument i've never heard. and people, especially her supporters, are lapping it up!

the only one who's creating division in this race is hillary. she's the one who decided to directly appeal to the "white, working class" vote, knowing full well that race was a HUGE issue in west virginia and kentucky, and knowing full well that she was already impossibly behind when she went for this bottom-of-the-barrel strategy.

the fact that it somewhat worked is only a testament to the racism and stupidity of the american public. i know appealing to people's racism and ignorance is a good way to get a lot of votes--since a lot of americans are racist and stupid--but what a slimy way to win an election. that, plus going back on her word and the rules SHE AGREED TO is a true reflection of hillary's character.

if the roles were reversed, i can't imagine any scenario in which obama would have stooped as low as hillary has stooped in her desperate attempts to steal the nomination from him. it's thoroughly disgusting, and that disgust is only exacerbated by the number of people who are willing to go along with it.

"We are winning the popular vote," Clinton told supporters in San Juan. "Now there can be no doubt." - This is an absolutely untrue statement because the fact of the matter is that not all caucus states release vote counts, so the popular vote total will always be in doubt. Sen Clinton's math is fuzzy at best, but selective and made up is a better description of it.

Also Terry McAullife got on CNN yesterday and said that 4 Michigan delegates were taken from her that she won "Fair and square", he then cracked a huge smile because even he realized that was the most ludicrous statement of the day. The sheer fact that the Clinton campaign considers the Michigan primary "fair and square" speaks volumes..... always fair if it favors your side i guess.

In honor of the National Spelling bee, how do you spell desperate?
