Rep. John Sarbanes of Maryland endorsed Barack Obama after polls closed in Montana, the final primary state.
"Now that the votes have been cast and the primary season has come to its close, I am pleased to play a part in ratifying the decision of the voters in my district and across the country," Sarbanes said in a statement.
Most if not all of the remaining Maryland elected officials who are undeclared superdelegates are expected to announce the support for Obama on Wednesday.

It's fitting that Obama won the first primary and the last, and won enough in between to become the nominee. Every American should savor this moment as one that will loom large in history books. He has now become the only person of color, the only African descendent to be a candidate for leader of any Western country.

Thank you Rep. Sarbanes! Your father was one of the most decent politicans to grace the State of Maryland, and I'm pleased to see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!
