Kansas State forward Michael Beasley provides more immediate help, but Memphis point guard Derrick Rose is a better long term prospect for the hometown Chicago Bulls, says Barak Obama, who, you get the distinct impression, would really enjoy the First Fan aspects of being president.
Obama, a former high school player who still gets in an occasional pick-up game, predicts Rose will be "like Jason Kidd with a jump shot."
The Bulls have the first pick in tonight's draft as a reward for a bad (33-49) season.
Obama clearly pays attention to college and pro hoops game but his eye for talent is not unerring.
He had North Carolina, a conventional wisdom pick, going all the way in the NCAA tournament, which was won by Kansas, in a win over Rose and his Memphians.
