Cindy McCain, who has traveled to Kosovo and Vietnam this year for humanitarian missions, is off to Rwanda next week with the ONE Campaign to see how U.S. dollars are helping people fight against poverty and disease.

McCain (pictured here in her Kosovo travels) will be accompanied by former Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) and Bill Frist (R-Tenn.), who are leading the bipartisan delegation from July 17 to 23.

McCain is a longtime globe-trotter, traveling to hot spots around the world during natural disasters to bring medical relief. She founded the American Voluntary Medical Team in 1988, bringing doctors and nurses wherever they were needed.

She sits on the board of CARE, which fights global poverty and works to empower women, as well as Operation Smile and HALO Trust. Operation Smile provides medical procedures to children with facial deformities and HALO Trust removes landmines from post-conflict countries.

Both presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama have expressed support for One's agenda. At the end of 2007, the Global Fund had distributed 59 million bed nets to combat malaria in Africa, AIDS medicine has been distributed to more than 2 million Africans, and during the last five years, 29 million more African children have been able to attend school thanks to U.S. funding.

During Cindy McCain's April trip to Kosovo, she visited schools and fields around the country where land mines and cluster bombs pose lethal hazards. She also met with the president and the prime minister of Kosovo to thank them for allowing HALO to remove the munitions.

Shown here are a few pictures that I took on the trip, and see the profile of McCain which I wrote for the Tribune.

Cindy has done more to fight poverty than any of the democrats could ever hope to. Both Obamas? Well, they talk a good game but when it comes to real action you need a McCain.

Cindy Stepford checking out poverty and disease in Africa??

There's plenty to inspect here in the USA.

But she & John like to travel abroad to "change the subject".

Change the subject from the mess Bush & Co. have made of the USA.

Next stop: they'll drop in on the Olympic in China, our friendly banker and "trading partner". While you're there, John & Cindy, say hello to all the American jobs that have landed there.

Yes Jeff you are right, The McCains have done more than any Democrat to help poverty SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! So, lets continue the same course and send all of our tax dollars abroad to help everyone else while 40 million of our own American citizens are below poverty level and starving, without health insurance. Oh and I would like to add that Ms McCain is a millionare far above the Obamas. I see right through her Barbie Doll house. Too bad you can't.

If I'm looking to rip off ordinary and average Americans. I can look no further for advice than to John McCain. Founding member of the Keating Five. That's some good judgement he exhibited, joining that gang.

Lefties, the U.S spends billions upon billions helping those not too well off in the good ole USA. Funny, when Democrats go abroad and give goodies, they are hailed as great humanitarians. When Republicans do it, the same folks then scream, "What about the U.S. and not abroad?!?!?"
More hypocrisy and more hate from the clueless folk on the Left. No wonder studies show conservatives give millions upon millions more to charities than liberals.

"No wonder studies show conservatives give millions upon millions more to charities than liberals."

Well yeah, when you count 'charities' like megachurches that do nothing but give their pastors million dollar homes.

Is Cindy McCain going to offer to buy the Rawandans a new home like one of the seven homes that her Grampy McBush own and don't pay taxes on? Or how about a ride to America on one of the two private jets the McCain's own?

Cindy McCain works to end poverty the old fashioned way: charging more on her credit card in one month than the median annual household income of ten american families.

Both Michelle and Barack Obama worked for three years for two different public service Non-profits.

Barack worked for the Developing Communities Project.

Michelle worked for Public Allies.

They've done more than write checks. They've put their time, effort and talent into the everyday grass roots work to help poor communities.

If you want action, get an Obama. If you want a photo op, get a McCain.

Cindy McCain is a highly admirable person, helping children around the world with medical problems. She doesn't require center stage in doing so. She does it quietly and effectively. Further, she's an inspiration to stroke survivors everywhere for the way she fought back from her own disabling stroke. She will make one great First Lady.

Green Trees,
Would conservatives be so giving if it did give them a tax break? Meknows the answer is NO. No matter how you slice it, the charity conservatives gives to is secondary to a conservatives main focus which is to keep more money to themselves.

Studies? Could you give me some examples of this or were they taken on FOX News?

Let us not forget the billions of billions the right gave to create the Taliban to fight Russia!

Scot, I don't have any studies, but I can give you this REPORT on how much the McCains have given to charity and how comparitively little the Obamas have. McCain always gave more than a quarter of his income to Charity. Obama never even gave more than 12%. Pwnd.
http://www.rdtc.com/Blog/archive/2008/04/25/clinton-obama-and-mccains-tax-returns-analyzed.aspx

Here's another one on how Obama never gave any significant money to charity before he became a senator: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/chi-0704250022apr25,1,3690658.story?coll=chi-newsnationworld-hed

Jo, conservatives give to charity because it's the right thing to do, not because of tax breaks.
Scot, here is the proof:

http://www.beliefnet.com/story/204/story_20419_1.html

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/26/AR2008032602916_pf.html

Again, the Left is wrong and the Right is right. Par for the course.

Jeff, it's pretty easy to give away 25% of your salary when your wife supports you with her millions. Cindy put almost 5 times as much on one credit card in a single month as John gave to charity in a year. That's giving till it hurts isn't it?

Yes Jeff, the McCain's use their own charities for tax write-offs, isn't that special?

We can't afford to have "elitists" like the McCain's anywhere near the White House, BushCo has already given the richest Americans tax cuts and McCain want's to make those tax cuts permanent (which is another way of saying that he want's to give himself and his wife a permanent tax cut).

Green Trees,
When will "conservatives" submit a bill to Congress to abolish tax breaks for donations to charitable organizations? The answer is never because "conservatives" don't donate because it feels good. They donate because it helps lower their tax burden. Liberals give more to charity, they just don't ask for write-offs which is why your studies are skewed.

Amazing! The Republicans have a boring and uninspiring candidate so their latest attack is against those who choose not to donate to charity or cannot affored to give to charity? Last time I checked this was America and you could spend YOUR money how YOU see fit.

Cindy can put whatever she wants on her cards, she's the one who pays them off, too. Somebody is clearly obsessed with what Cindy does with HER money.

Hey Jeff, if you want me to be so impressed with what the McCain's give to charity, then what they do with their money is on the table. The McCain's brought what Cindy does with her money into the conversation by publicising this trip. If they don't want Cindy's money discussed in a negative way, they shouldn't use it to try and get positive publicity. Neither should you.

I know you want to obscure how very wealthy the McCain's are and how little their lifestyle has in common with most americans, but if you want to do that, stop trying to impress us with the small percentage of their money the McCain's give to charitable causes. It's one coin with two sides. If you want to flip it, be prepared for both heads and tails to come up.

/\That has to be JOHN D !!!!!!!!

I didn't know much about Cindy. Had to look her up, and her daughters blog a year ago. While everyone usually focuses on her money, her durgs, ect I was impressed by what she has made her niche in life. Hillary women and health care, and Cindy has her philanthropy. It's nice to see both show a life passion. I'm still looking for Michelle's in the news....so far she's more interested in getting her husband president to offer an insight into what has been her interest. Cindy rarely talks, but when Michelle does it's most about her husband. I sense a lot of professional careerer (like Hillary), and hints at community service being a life passion...I would like for Michele to really show us more of her interests and her efforts throughout the years in those interests. Maybe the Swamp can do a thing on the two potential ladies.

I don't understand why people get upset with tax cuts for the rich. The rich people in America pay 95% of the taxes collected. You can't cut the taxes of the poor because they don't pay any. They usually get all they paid in plus earned income credit when they file. I am single and middle class. I pay taxes and I don't mind we need to pay for the services we receive. I can cut the taxes I pay by giving to charities, too. I can't believe that the Democrats don't take their charitable contributions off of their taxes. If they really gave they would. Rich people are rich because they give... The more you give the more you will get... God gives seed to the sower.

How sad to see so many ugly speaking people.
Thank you, Deborah Eyestone, for a very nice comment.
I really thought democrats were nicer than they are proving to be. These are the kind of people that no one really wants be around. They will live very lonely lives, because they are so really mean and nasty. Like Michelle Obama said, these are the people who’s souls are broken.
