SAN FRANCISCO -- For many residents of this liberal bastion, President Bush's name is mud. Now activists here want to make that moniker stick.
A group calling itself the Presidential Memorial Commission of San Francisco this week submitted a proposal to rename a sewage treatment plant after the outgoing chief executive in recognition of the political and environmental "mess" they say will be his legacy.
Supporters submitted 12,000 signatures with San Francisco election officials, hoping to place on the ballot an initiative that would rechristen the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant as the George W. Bush Sewage Plant.
"We think this is a fitting tribute to this president," said Brian McConnell, a member of the group, whose insignia shows the presidential seal with a bald eagle holding two plungers. "It's fair to say that we're going to be cleaning up a substantial mess over the next decade or more, thanks to Bush. Environmental degradation. A war in Iraq that cost $1 trillion- plus. It's going to be a big job."
Republicans aren't amused by the gesture. "It doesn't dignify a response," White House spokesman Trey Bohn said of the initiative.
John M. Glionna writes for the Los Angeles Times. Read the full article on the proposed George W. Bush Sewage Plant at latimes.com.

Let the voters decide. It's a local issue. Power to the people!

I don't think it is appropriate to name a sewage treatment plant after Bush. After all, sewage treatment produces a positive effect. I think naming the city dump after him is better.

How petty - aren't there more important things to do out in the land of sodomy?

Better a George W Bush Sewage Plant than a George W Bush Public Skewoll

Although I am a conservative, I feel naming a sweage treatment plant George W. Bush is a fitting tribute to the leader who lead us back to the dark ages.

How thats what I call a good Idea, just think about it. All those anti-Bushites voting for "BUSH" now they think they are making a statement about "BUSH"
But they are really making a statement about them selfs, and the city of San Francisco. Maybe they will erect a statue too.

This is a most fitting tribute considering all the smelly stuff he has had to deal with from the Democrat Congress.

What else would you expect from a place that has given us the likes of San Fran "Botox" Nan Pelosi, A sanctuary city that gives illegals more rights than their citizens. Since Nan and her crew took office what's their approval rating - last report 9%, lowest in history since they've started keeping track.

Go ahead and name it that.
Reminds me of the little town that wanted to issue a warrand for bush's arrest.

I think its a great idea

It should be named the Pelosi-Boxer Crapper treatment plant. The Dem controlled congress has done such a great job since taking over on the economy and gas prices. 9% congress approval rating, Who stinks now!

Maybe they could rename the city itself, something like "Intolerance", or "Idiot City" would work. Both are correct.

Hey VJ,
Don't you think you'd be better off spending all your time trying to get that nutty old man John McSame elected?
I hear the Neonut Republican Party is looking for ways to replace John McBush with a "better" candidate at their upcoming convention in Minneapolis.

The people of the Land of Fruits and Nuts have found a way to honor George W. Bush. Congratulations, dummies.

Virginia, that 9% approval rating is for Congress as an entity. Most voters are satisfied with about their own Senator or Congressman (that's why they usually get reelected). Compare that to Bush's dismal high twenties rating. Perhaps naming a highway that deadends at a cliff would be a better choice. Sewage has too many useful properties.

I think it's a great idea. Imagine, you can visit S.F, take a dump and go away knowing the 'Bush' cleaned it up! The T-shirt possibilities are endless

Dear Roger Waters I loved the video it shows that even John Mc Goo would make a better president then Obama.
In fact i think I will put the video on my website. I love the ines that try to make fun of McCain but all they really do is show he is the best candidate for president.

According to [World Net Daily] online, spokeswoman Dana Perino said "I don't think it dignifies a response". Neither version is good English, although the error is not completely unknown online, but despite watching [The West Wing], I don't "get" how different people in the office are making the same mistake (if they are), unless one of them pranked the other or the response was dignified by the President himself.
Maybe his intended legacy is universal irreversible damage to the language - forget the Middle East peace stuff, which I expect to see shatter explosively the week before the election, with Senator Obama somehow receiving the blame, and calls for John McClain to come and sort it all out.

Seems to be too positive of a tribute -- just look at the pretty sight in the picture.

It's unfortunate to see where this country is going. The office of the president deserves a lot more respect than the left wing show. He has accomplished more good in his presidency then Clinton has in his life. Unforntunately it has become apparent to me as a native Californian how little respect is given to them from the other states. There is a term garbage in, garbage out. Garbage from garbage is still just garbage.

Wonderful! This is brilliant. Good old SF! Is SF wacky? Yes, thank God. It's telling it like it is, and Bush and his swarm who have constantly lied to us, feasted off of our future and freedoms is excremental and deserves appropriate recognition. Well, we too deserve some responsibility for this disaster. So the job of rolling up our sleeves and getting down to shoveling out the mess has just begun and maybe it starts here. Let's remember that SF in the late 1800's is the only city on earth where 10,000 people attended the funeral of a dog. Humor is the mortal enemy of tyrants. Thank you, SF!

If it "Doesn't dignify a response", as stated by White House spokesman Trey Bohn, then why is he responding? I personally think the renaming idea is Tres Bon!

This treatment is awards winning well run, managed and maintained facility. They’re real people both democrats and republication who take extreme pride in the fact that they haven’t had any illegal discharges since it was opened. It has tour from companies from around the world for its design, and function
They don’t find any of this funny; it is rather insulting to subject innocent people to the public ridicule. I’m sure many think its cleaver to name a public building for the comedy relief but your joke is stupid, a failure of a president doesn’t deserve to be treated like this in America because whether you like him or not he is the president of the USA and if you don’t like that’s okay, but he is still the president. I don’t care for Hugo Chavez lets name a disease after him, I hate Green living lovers, let dedicate a clear cut rain Forrest after them, and the silliness can go on forever. Grow up if you don’t like the man its okay he is going to out of office some day and we will move on to some other bulls—t liar that we call the president of the US ,and he’ll get the same respect as his title deserves.
