As if Barack Obama, presumed Democratic nominee, weren't popular enough with the kids.
A loyal Swamp reader points out that Illinois-born rapper Ludacris has just released a new song about Barack Obama, his favorite politician and maybe Best Friend Forever based on the lyrics.
The Obama campaign said Ludacris should be ashamed of the lyrics, which they called offensive, not only to Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and likely Republican nominee John McCain (R-Ariz.), but also 'all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear.'
A former Clinton aide also quickly got in on the act, calling on Obama to denounce the song.
Ludacris' rep. would not return repeated calls for comment.
Among the jewels of wisdom:
On special perks: 'Said I handled his biz and I'm one of his favorite rappers, well give Luda a special pardon if I'm ever in the slammer. Better yet put him in office, make me your vice president.'
On Hillary Clinton: 'Hillary hated on you, so that (expletive) is irrelevant'
On Republicans: McCain don't belong in any chair unless he's paralyzed, Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped
The video is sure to ruffle a few feathers, especially among those who are already trying to paint Obama as little more than a celebrity trying to ride his hype to the White House.
Lyrics after the jump.
And hear is what Ludacris had to say about it:
I'm back on it like I just signed my record deal
Yeah the best is here, the Bentley Coup paint is dripping wet, it got sex appeal
Never should have hated
You never should've doubted him
With a slot in the president's iPod Obama shattered 'em
Said I handled his biz and I'm one of his favorite rappers
Well give Luda a special pardon if I'm ever in the slammer
Better yet put him in office, make me your vice president
Hillary hated on you, so that (expletive) is irrelevant
Jesse talking slick and apologizing for what?
If you said it then you meant it how you want it have a gut!
And all you other politicians trying to hate on my man,
watch us win a majority vote in every state on my man
You can't stop what's bout to happen, we bout to make history
The first black president is destined and it's meant to be
The threats ain't fazing us, the nooses or the jokes
So get off your (expletive), black people, it's time to get out and vote!
Paint the White House black and I'm sure that's got 'em terrified
McCain don't belong in any chair unless he's paralyzed
Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped
Ball up all of his speeches and I throw 'em like candy wrap
'cause what you talking I hear nothing even relevant
and you the worst of all 43 presidents
Get out and vote or the end will be near
The world is ready for change because Obama is here!
'cause Obama is here
The world is ready for change because Obama is here!

I'm glad Obama called him out. I am getting tired of the hate and venom from Obama supporters. The man says he stands for change, for ending the hateful rhetoric of the past 16 years. Apparently not everyone who thinks they support him got the memo.

Had the "artist" been required to take any United States history he might have learned that although GWB is considered the 43d president he is the 42nd person to hold the office as Cleveland's non-consecutive terms classify him as both the 22nd and 24th president. Of course these days one can go through four years of college without even sniffing any of that "irrevelant" stuff.

A few points folks.
First and most importantly, just because someone supports YOU, doesn't mean that you support THEM. This is true of every candidate. Both men have some real idiots singing their praises.
Second, to all the posters who want to believe that only Obama supporter are full of hate, you can either skim through comments posted by the right on any of the Swamp items, or just peruse email I get from conservatives who are actually my friends!
There's enough hate to go around for everyone.

Dumb. These guys (Wright, Phleger, etc.) must not really understand politics or just don't care. Dumb. dumb, dumb; but he'll sell records because of the publicity.
Who's the sellout Luda? You!

...More evidence that Obama shouldn't worry about whether Americans can speak OTHER languages...He should be MUCH MORE CONCERNED that anything even close to proper ENGLISH isn't being learned!
Among other recent glimpses into the potential future...hopefully this will wake up a few more Kool-aid drinkers. Anyone who cares about preserving a shred of this country's hard-work ethic, decency, and literacy--had better for the only qualified candidate remaining: JOHN McCAIN.

None of his songs make any sense anyway. Anything to keep his name out there, an sell songs to the people with poor taste. Shows that if you are in politics, it's better not to say that you like any artist.
Posted by: kitty | July 30, 2008 5:32 PM
Can't wait for the next Obama "friend" to come out of the woodwork. This is the problem when a party picks a candidate who has not been fully vetted through years of challenging campaigns and has had an extensive record of experience in a variety of settings. Obama remains the blank check that has yet to be signed.

One person who is a entertainer has his opinion. Who does he speak for, but himself. I hope the paper is not saying he speaks for 50 million Black Americans; or, for anyother group of Americans. Let's face it. Obama sells and everyone is taking advantage of "history" in the making.
Posted by: American First | July 30, 2008 5:41 PM
The meter on these lyrics is pretty bad: you'd have to cram syllables in one verse and stretch them on another!
Seriously, this is almost as bad as those "Up with the USA" country songs: and I'd be really ashamed if I'd written one of those, too.
Posted by: pjw | July 30, 2008 5:42 PM
Not "Friend", he's a supporter. He's doing what he feels is his part to support his candidate. Maybe not in the way that's desired, but he's just doing what he does: raps. In the manner he usually does it in. I don't blame Obama for denouncing it, God knows there's more than enough people "trying to help" that's doing more harm than good. But this is to be expected. I can't be mad at him for what he did. He felt as though he's given BO his props (and making some money in the process). I'm sure people who listen to Luda and support Obama will be bangin' this all summer long ...

ludicrous
- absurdly ridiculous: utterly ridiculous because of being absurd, incongruous, impractical, or unsuitable
That's the name the goofball chose for himself and it's completely and accurately descriptive.

Is rap still 'round?
and who is that clown
with a rock in his ear
and whose lyrics I fear
will bring down my man; the Obamaman.
Why it's the Lude' with the 'tude!
who can't help but be rude
'cause that's what is sellin'
to white teens who are wishin'
they could be just like Ludacris.
But the Lude’s gone too far
which isn’t raising the bar
‘cause how far can you go
when you clearly don’t know
what you’re talkin’ about.
Still people listen to rap
even through most of it’s crap
being today’s flavor of pap
for the masses to lap
just please don’t rap about the Obamaman!

As an Obama supporter I have to take comfort in these types of stories because it proves that there is so little (at least now) on him that the negativity has to be aimed at those who simply have something to say about him, and not the man himself.
On a side note I think a post needs to be done on the racist remarks people feel free to make online--but how many of them would feel good saying that stuff on national TV, for instance?

Ludacris, like most hip hop artists try to give voice to the landscape of America to their audience. This song is not a dedication to Obama. It is a piece about the Obama movement and how it makes Cris feel. Now Obama does not respond to every political cartoon written about him?
Posted by: Joe Strickland | July 31, 2008 9:07 AM
Will, Idiocracy was about the over corporatization of the country, and what happens when consumerism goes overboard and hands too much control to the leadership. It was an anti-right message. Look into it, and who made it.

McCain is a fatherly type figure. Obama is a rock star type figure (but without any talent!)
Who do you want to run the country? Would they have the national anthem rapped when Obama's sworn in?

Lies, lies, lies. What we're not being told is 4 men are responsible for Ludicris' current campaign to cause Obama to be embarrassed. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and McCain have Ludicris on their payroll. They plan to continue to use pop stars to cause Obama embarassment. That's why we saw Paris Hilton and Madanna in that TV commercial with Obama also. We need to impeach these 4 Texans before more pop stars cause Obama embarrassment. The lyrics are very offensive and the comment about McCain in a chair only if he's paralyzed sounds like threat of violence against him. Obama has yet to denounce and condemn this demented rapper. Almost as disturbing is that he's one of Obama's favorites and he listens to him on his ipod soaking in the hostility. The question is why? What kind of hypocrit is he pretending he cares about the minds of children?

Rick McCain, maybe Obam should have been a little more selective in picking his friends over the years. He wouldn't be apologizing so much today. You can certainly judge people by the friends they keep. Or in this case kept. We can look forward to a scary four years if Obam gets in.

Obama: "Is that the best you can come up with?" ... well, it may not be as good as solving our energy problem, by adding air to our tires. but, hey Obama ... if you want substance between you and McCain ... then, why do you refuse to debate him in 10 town hall meetings? Obama has been attacking his opponents ... first Hillary ... now McCain, by way of his supporters ... who he has to keep distancing himself from, only after they're caught that is, to give the appearance that he is not involved in the attacks. As far as Obama looking different than the Presidents on our dollar bills ... this presumptuous, pompous, arrogant candidate is probably already planning how he will redesign our currency, with his picture on it, like the way he redesigned the Presidential seal ... that is, whenever he can take some time away from accusing everybody who disagrees with him of being a racist. Obama is a cry baby, who is not qualified to be President of the United States.

Ludacris made an interesting comment.....he said that it seemed to be a lot of miscommunication going on. Wonder what he meant by that, could he mean the communication that he had with Obama about them putting this out there?
Posted by: HA! | July 31, 2008 10:17 PM
Well something is a little fishy here. I couldn't here this video when it first played (techno difficulties they were having) so I came back to it, and they had Lud saying something that struck me as odd, so I commented on it. Hey, now the video is gone, and my comment is no where to be seen.
In the video that WAS on here with Ludacris after this screw up, he said he guessed there was just some misunderstanding or something. So, I commented that it was odd to say that, it appears that he is talking abou an agreement he had with someone...like OBAMA.
I commented on this and the second video of Lud disappeared, along with my post.
Posted by: I CRY FOUL | August 1, 2008 6:40 AM
The song is weak, the rap is weak & I really thought Ludacris was smarter than that. Although I listen to some pretty raw rap: LYNCH, C-BO, WC/CUBE, I don't let my kid listen it and I don't run out and whup somebody cause I listened to a mysognistic rap tune. It's parents that shape the kids not weak rappers or even Barack Obama. Obama needs to focus on his campaign and stop trying to up his "street cred" by buddying up to studio gangsters like Ludacris. Luda just showed everybody what an imbecile he is. As if Obama didn't know what kind of lyrics Luda spit before he started buddying up to him - please. It's almost as if Obama sets this stuff up and then comes riding in with the "can't we all get along" tripe, to make him look like a real leader. Sound familiar? The same happened with Reverend Wright. I see a pattern.
