Candy Crowley of CNN interviewed Sen. Barack Obama before he left Berlin for Paris. Among her questions: Why are we in Berlin with a little more than three months before the election? And what message are American voters supposed to draw from this?
Part of Obama's answer was this:
"If we have more NATO troops in Afghanistan, then that's potentially fewer American troops over the long term, which means we're spending fewer billions of dollars, which means we can invest those billions of dollars in making sure we're providing tax cuts to middle class families who are struggling with higher gas prices that will have an impact on our economy."
It's hard to go wrong in the swing states with the argument that you have a strategy for lowering their taxes.
Of course, the European governments might have to raise taxes to fund the type of expanded military and nation-building role Obama wants them to play in Afghanistan. Which is one of the reasons NATO nations haven't committed more to the cause and why Obama, if he becomes president, is going to find himself challenged in getting significant boosts in troops and other assistance to Afghanistan.

Comments
Barack thinks NATO is a really neat idea, demonstrating yet again his mastery of the obvious. That's called "shoring-up your foreign policy credentials".

Typical McCain Town Hall:
Voter 1: "My home is going into foreclosure due to a bad loan. What will you do to help me?"
McCain: "The surge is workin. It is Sen. O who is has failed to recognize the surge is workin'."
Voter 1: "But my bad loan. How will you help me?"
McCain: "Sen. O wants to win election instead of winning a war. I will never, ever surrender to Iraqi government. Next question."
Voter 2: "I lost my job and health care and was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Do you have a universal health care plan that I can afford."
McCain: My friends, the surge is workin'. I was right all along. Sen. O is wrong and would rather lose a war than lose an election. That's all the time I have for my economic plan. Good night, my friends."

In my lifetime I've never seen a worse Presidential candidate than McCain, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that his staff has to remind him what his name is every morning.

What kind of legacy have we been left by the Republicans?
$3+ trillion added to our national debt, Osama Bin Laden, the devil who killed 3000+ Americans is still on the loose and a candidate who refuses to believe that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq in the first place, but will yell himself hoarse arguing over how well it's going now after 4000+ more Americans have died.
They tell us that that we are better off with them in charge. Riiiiight! Just like an abuser tells their battered spouse.

It would be so nice to have a President like Obama who actually thinks by gathering evidence and then coming to a conclusion rather than someone (McCain) who relies on corporate owners and lobbyists for advice and make policies to help corporations more than for the good of America like Bush has and McCain would continue.

You think so, Zappo? Here's an example of Obama's independent thinking and his watching out for the common good:
Obama has told us on-the-stump that he had passed a bill requiring nuclear plants to promptly report radioactive leaks. This came after residents of Illinois had complained they were not told of leaks that occurred at a nuclear plant operated by Exelon Corporation.
The truth, however, was that Obama allowed the bill to be amended in Committee by Senate Republicans. They replaced language mandating reporting with verbiage that merely offered guidance to regulators on how to address unreported leaks. The NY Times (February 3, 2008) noted that even this version of Obama's bill failed to pass the Senate, so it was unclear why Obama was claiming to have passed the legislation. Obama constituent Joe Cosgrove, a park district director in Will County, Ill., where low-level radioactive runoff had turned up in groundwater, is quoted as follows:
"Senator Obama's staff was sending us copies of the bill to review, and we could see it weakening with each successive draft. The teeth were just taken out of it."
The New York Times story further noted:
"Since 2003, executives and employees of Exelon, which is based in Illinois, have contributed at least $227,000 to Mr. Obama's campaigns for the United States Senate and for president. Two top Exelon officials, Frank M. Clark, executive vice president, and John W. Rogers Jr., a director, are among his largest fund-raisers."
Ah yes, it would be nice to have a president like that for a change!

Well, it's ever harder when the swing states find out you plan to raise EVERYONES taxes and he won't be leaving the swing states OUT !

Wow, Obama makes a misstatement and MJ acts like Obama's campaign is collapsing. I've never in my life seen the Republican Party and their minions like MJ so desperate and I can't tell you how happy it makes me.

If you're John McCain....
You don't know how to use the internet, you don't know that Czechoslovakia is no longer a country, you don't know Sunni from Shia, you don’t know much about the economy, you're uninformed about women's health issues, you don't know whether you're for or against gay adoption, stem cell research or setting a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, you don't know what countries share a border with Pakistan, you don't know when the surge began, you no longer object to waterboarding or closing Guantanamo, you don't tell the truth about your votes on veterans issues, you said Putin was the leader of Germany, you think alternative energy means switching from regular to premium, you say you know how to win wars but you haven't actually won any, your idea of a funny joke is suggesting different ways to kill people in other countries, you want to keep giving tax breaks to the wealthy but not the middle and lower class, you confuse Somalia with Sudan, you thought voting for the Iraq war was an exercise in good judgment, you once said "I disagree with what the majority of Americans want," you think Social Security is "a disgrace," your idea of health care is apparently 'take more vitamins,' you voted to support Bush's policies 95 percent of the time last year and 100 percent of the time this year, and over the course of a single week you unfairly attacked both your opponent's patriotism and his humanity...
So tell us again, MJ: Why should Americans vote for McCain?

You're obviously missing the point. And the point is not so much that Obama [guffaw!] "makes mistatements" like any other politician, but that he serves his corporate masters rather than us. Judging by the example I cited, Obama is OK with allowing his constituents to be exposed to radioactive waste.

BUt MJ, what's the problem? McCain tells me us that Nuclear power is clean and perfectly safe. He tells us we need FEWER regulations on nuclear power plants, not tougher regulations You couldn't be saying that he's wrong, could you?
