Rudy Giuliani: 'Not on the short list': The Swamp

Rule out another running mate for John McCain.

Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York and onetime frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination in early opinion polling, said today that he is not a candidate for vice president.

"I am not on the short list. I don't want to be on the short list,'' Giuliani replied, when asked by NBC's David Gregory on the Today Show if he would make a suitable running mate. "Sen. McCain has some excellent choices.''

Of course, the pro-choice, pro gun-control Giuliani may never have made any short list for a Republican candidate unlikely to align with an abortion rights-supporter.

Who should be that running mate? Someone who can step in as president, has all the qualifications that the candidate has, and is readily acceptable by the public as a potential stand-in, said Giuliani, whose own fortunes faded early in the GOP's primaries and who stepped aside after running third to McCain and Mitt Romney in Florida.

That's too bad. If Rudy doesn't epitomize Republican family values, who does? Larry Craig? Newt Gingrich?

I think the press is concentrating on Romney, but I don't think he'll be the pick. I know he can bring in his state and some say the candidates should go for that reason alone. He can also bring in some on the religious right, but he's thought of as controversial with some there. His personality doesn't stand out and grab you, but his business sense does.

There are some other good candidates who can also bring in a state I'm sure, and likability is high but able to get tough under these conditions not so sure. Some aren't even known well at all.

However, the one that stands out the most for me, is Carly Fiorina. I saw her on Meet the Press with Tommy boy. I never knew she was in the running, but I liked her immediately. She's soooo smart, and very tough, but keeps her cool real well. I think she could be as aggressive as any man, without it appearing that she is doing it for show... so it comes accross appealing. I hope to hear a lot more about her.

Obama would be smart to pick Evan B. . I lived in Indiana for quite some years. I was told that his popularity came from his fathers fame in office and that his dad was known for not being far left. He always came across as stick and fake on tv, and somewhat mild mannered, but boy was he not any of that when he came out for Obama (after Hillary support). He did better than I've seen him, but he talked right over the anchor and that was annoying to me. The anchor was doing a fair job of trying to balance thing and he wanted no part of it, wouldn't answer questions well.

I still think, of all the others, Evan B. would be his best choice to shore up what he has missing.

Teresa,

"...Meet the Press with Tommy boy."

Did you mean Tim Russert? If you did, how about a little respect for the dead.

Oh, yes! Please, please, please pick Carly Fiorina. A woman who took a well-reputed American company, drove it into the ground ("During her tenure, the market halved HP’s value and the company incurred heavy job losses" - wikipedia), and was ousted by the board of directors. Ending millions of jobs and driving a company into the ditch is such a resume-builder.

Googles told Gregory that not only were he and McCain FOR a surge in Iraq, they were also FOR a surge in Afghanistan two years ago - "long before Obama."

Really?

Where would we get the troops from?

Had the Bush-McCain administration listened to Obama and others in the FIRST place, we would have had PLENTY of troops at the source of the terrorist problem - the Afghan-Pakistani border - from the git-go.

Now all the SURGE has done is move the terrorists from Iraq back to the A-P border. Once we drawdown and move troops to the A-P border, the terrorists will return to the chaos created by the Bush-McCain administration.

Book it.

Thats right Dave, but it sounds like the typical republican candidate in general!

Carly Fiorina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read the entire thing. She sounds extremely accomplished. I think it's sad that the MARKET knocked the company down.

She is very confident. I would like to hear more in the media about her. I thought she read very well.

Now I'd love to see a woman vice-president, but Fiorina is a fool. Her missteps in serving as McBush's surrogate just seal the deal.

McCain just got someone new in charge of his campaign. I don't hold a misstep against against someone. She doesn't seem evasive. I believe she'll be straight forward with press and public. Did you see her on Meet the press ?

carly fiorina? really? hp's value was halved during her tenure. only after they kicked her to the curb did they regain their position. but i agree, mcgramps should pick her, her ability to single handedly destroy a company falls perfectly in line with republican fiscal policy.

Carla Fiorina does not wear a flag pin on her lapel.

To suggest that such a blatant America-hater could be VP is itself a heinous act of treason.

Crud- you don't even know who she is HA!

You boys don't have to worry, I don't get to pick, and the press keeps saying Romney, we shall see ha ha!

I was a Giuliani supporter before he dropped out of the primaries, and still think he would make a good president. However I am glad he said he doesn't think he is on McCain's VP list. I think that ticket would be a losing one for the republican party. I also don't like to be reminded of his pro gun control stance, because I strongly oppose him on it. I never felt like he would threaten my right to own guns, which is why he had my support. I think a more conservative running mate or maybe a women would be a smart decision for McCain. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal or Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for example. I just recently came across Palin today, from a readers comment on my blog. I like her considering how little I know of her.

Jorge from Bloomington:
"terrorists will return to the chaos created by the Bush-McCain administration." The Iraq forces will be capable of dealing with the small groups of terrorists fleeing Afghanistan by the time we start building troops up there. The surge is working and making sure it continues to progress in the right direction should be everyones interest. Obama being wrong is a good thing, we are closer to "winning."

t, i'm beginning to think you need medication. or less medication. ha
