DENVER - That "everyday people'' sort of guy, Sen. John McCain, made an appearance on Jay Leno's Tonight Show last night.
Seemed like the Tonight Show band had taken its cue from the Democratic convention, where Michelle Obama told the crowd; "You can make it if you try.'' The Sly and the Family Stone lyrics for the tune they played on McCain's entrance:
"Sometimes I'm right, and I can be wrong
"My own beliefs are in my song
"The butcher, the banker, the drummer and then
"Makes no difference what group I'm in
"I, I, I, I, I, am everyday people, yeah yeah''
It will be McCain's birthday on Friday, Leno noted.
"Thank you for mentioning that,'' said McCain, who will turn 72 on Friday, and is likely to roll out the name of his presidential running mate that day to take some of the steam out of Barack Obama's convention closer on Thursday.
"Wouldn't it be good to have a person, you don't know what party they're with, they have no political principles whatsoever... they may need a job about that time,'' said McCain, pointedly suggesting that his pick could be the soon-to-be-free agent seated next to him.
"The approval rating for Congress is now down to nine percent... that's blood relatives and paid staffers,'' McCain said, reeling out a standard one-liner.
This, of course, is the candidate whom Democratic rival Barack Obama is attempting to portray as out of touch - the one with seven, make that eight, homes. This is the star of late-night comedy, the one who has dismissed Obama as a "celebrity.''
All's fair on late-night TV, especially for "everyday people.''

Comments
And when Jay Leno offered McCain $1 million if he could answer the question of how many homes he has, what was the first thing out of his mouth? Well, you know, I was a POW, so for 5 years I didn't have a home, I didn't have a kitchen table, yadda yadda yadda. Does he seriously have any other answer besides that?
At what point does something, that yes, had a profound impact on his life and yes, the country thanks him for his service, become so watered down that it is just a running joke?
Mr. McCain, while I may not agree with any of your positions, please, stop making a mockery of the supreme sacrifice you made for this country.

Sure' he's an "everyday people." Cause we all have 8 or is it 10 homes.
If you can't remember that, you should not have your finger on the button in the oval office. You might press it by mistake.

From the right wing clowns posting in the Swamp today:
Obama should be scorned because he enjoys eating and knows the price of expensive foods like arugula and brie.
;
McCain should not be ashamed of being able to afford expensive homes.
;
Ok, got it! Nope, not a double standard.

He must be "everyday" people. Romney says McCain "earned" his houses.
He must mean being married to Cindy is hard work. We all know McCain married his money.
"Earned" indeed!

Why didn't Senator "Questionable Conduct " McCain speak out against the character assassination, the Bush Republicans committed against a fellow Vietnam Vet, former Senator Max Clelland ?? If the horrific experience of the Vietnam war was so defining, why didn't Senator McCain come to the defense of his fellow Vet and a three-limbed lost casualty of that " Military-Industrial" disaster?? The reason is, his experience has always been more than the experience, it has been a political selling point for his candidacies in his political career. He has cashed in on his POW status for a comfortable and elitist way of life !! if he is an everyday American, than so are the Bushes and we know that is some more bushing of America !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Anyone who thinks Leno is still funny needs some help. Besides, a bigger shill for the GOP can't be found.

I wonder how much McCain paid for his suit?
And further, where is his flag lapel pin?

Hmmm....linking Obama as a "celebrity"? Who's trying to hang with the Celebs doing Leno, SNL? Interesting fit for that shoe.
McBush - the "everyman" who voted AGAINST giving his fellow GIs a full ride with the GI College bill. For John-send'em and keep'em there past their committment and with Humvees that don't have enough armor. Thanks John for all your help. You are truly an inspiraton. Way to turn your back on fellow GIs.
