DENVER -- Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the Republican candidate for president, had this to say today about Sen. Joe Biden, his longtime Democratic Senate colleague from Delaware and now running mate for Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois:

"I think he's a good selection,'' McCain told Katie Couric, of CBS News. "Joe and I have been friends for many, many years, and we know each other very well, and so I think he's made a very wise selection. ''

Never mind the TV ads that McCain's campaign already is launching underscoring what Biden has said about his own team-mate's inability to lead -- words from a party primary past. McCain apparently will let his campaign, and perhaps his running mate, take care of Biden. For his part, McCain is playing the good Senate sport here:

"I know that Joe will campagn well for Sen. Obama, and so I think he's going to be very formidable,'' McCain added. "Obviously, Joe and I have been on different philosophical sides, but we have been - I consider him a good friend and good man."

Will this make it more difficult to criticize Obama, the Democratic Party's candidate for president, McCain was asked: "Do you think it wil be more difficult now, Sen. McCain, to criticize Barack Obama's foreign policy credentials, when someone like Joe Biden is on the ticket, a very experienced and respected voice on Capitol Hill in these matters?" Couric asked.

"Well, I've always respected Joe Biden, but I disagreed with him from the time he voted against the first Gulf War to his position where he said you had to break Iraq up into three different countries,'' McCain said. "I never agreed with that.

"But I appreciate very much his dedication to trying to solve this genocide that's going on in Darfur and other things that Joe Biden has done,'' McCain added. "But we really have different approaches to many national security issues. I look forward to whoever my running mate will be having a respectful debate with him on that as well."

When John McCain started taking money from Karl Rove, it became crystal clear that McCain sold his honor to the RNC store.

John McCain can, and will, do anything to become president.

What else could he say ? Senator Biden has the respect of most Senators that have the honesty to admit to a hard-working, dedicated civil servant, like Senator Joe Biden. I know there are underdeveloped critics that call him, a jerk, that is why I ask Senator McCain, if he wouldn't mind speaking to some of his supporters. They must realize that politics is an adult activity and that you can't go around, sticking your tongue out, at everyone that disagrees with you !! It would be great if they could act their age, but that may not win elections for them. I hope they will find out, that winning isn't everything, nor is it, the only thing. It really is, all in how, you play the game !

Good selection? I'd say great selection!!! Thank you Obama!!

Of course I am a Republican voting for McCain.

I do not care what kind of grades he got. Pretty smooth interview. Slick, maybe too slick. Well Team McCain seems to have made it a point to visit the real-time poll at http://www.bop-o-rama.com.

Obama 600,690

McCain 313,581

I do not think you want to lead in this poll. This will be a fun one to watch during the conventions.

John McCain is a gentleman. He sticks to issues but does not become speak ill personally of his opponents. He and Biden have been friends. It will be interesting to see if Biden is as much a gentleman. Reminds us of how nicely Richard Cheney spoke of Joe Lieberman when they were opponents and before Lieberman saw the light (not the one Obama says shines down on him). McCain continues to be very complimentary of Hillary Clinton, unlike Obama and his supporters who have done everything they can to insult her and Bill.

Biden is a Roman Catholic who is pro-choice--pro-abortion whats the diff? Joe Biden treated Justice Alito terrible and Robert Bork he is just another liberal Democrat who talks too much.
Thinking Catholics will not favor him or Dick Durbin both traitors to the Roman Catholic Church pushing abortion. 1.2 million abortions were performed last year 1 is too many.Obama, Biden, Durbin bad for babies and both are for gay marriage. Jerry White, Springfield, IL

Speaking of Catholic issues, I guess it's alright to kill thousands of Iraqis for their Oil Fields. It's alright for our men and women in uniform to be killed and maimed for the greed of the Oil Corps !! There's no violation of the Christian commandment of " Thou shall Not KIll. "?? It's alright to kill prisoners, because the state says so !! God said otherwise!!! Capital punishment is murder and that violates the sixth commandment, doesn't it !!? I should no better, than to present a rhetorical question to the shrill Bush-McCain Republicans because, they would even try to trick God's laws, to achieve their diabolical agenda, the slaughter in Bahgdad !!
