The Democratic National Committee today launched a new website, TheNextCheney.com, featuring potential GOP candidates for Sen. John McCain's running mate.
The site focuses on seven candidates to start with:
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty
Florida Gov. Charlie Crist
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney
Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.)
Former Hewlett-Packard chief Carly Fiorina
FedEX CEO Fred Smith
Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.)
With an unflattering photograph of Vice President Dick Cheney plastered across the front, the site contains criticisms of each potential veep candidate and an option for members of the public to sign up to receive alerts when a candidate is in their area. The site fits into the DNC's message that a McCain presidency would be a third term of President Bush.
It also references a pro-Cheney quote McCain made at an October 2001 International Reform Institute dinner.
"You have been the kind of leader America prides herself on producing," McCain said, according to a transcript of the speech posted on his Senate office website. "I've known you for great many years, and I have always been extraordinarily impressed by your intelligence, your ability, and your patriotism. With a little more luck, I might have been able to ask you to be my vice president."
Republican National Committee spokesman Alex Conant said that instead of debating the energy crisis, Democrats are "obsessing over hypothetical political match-ups."
"The DNC is having fun with Washington parlor games, but the rest of the nation is debating the merits of McCain's 'all-of-the-above' energy plan versus Obama's 'inflate-your-tires' approach," Conant said.

A pre-emptive strike, great stuff. The pristine saintly democrats got a little mean in them. That James Carville.

Where the Repubicans show facts about Obama's positions and are reviled for negative ads, the Dems slander and don't get called on it. Amazing.

glenn: Are you unable to see a difference here? McCain ran ads comparing Obama to a Messiah, comparing him to Britney and Paris, and is now handing out tire gauges.
That, in your world, looks the same as a site that, yes, is negative, but attacks their actual records, not other immature idiotic intangibles?
Amazing.

I love it! The party that uses coded words (presumptuous) and images (airheaded blonde women) to smear Obama and then hides behind humor says that Democrats are mean for considering the deeds of potential veeps.
God forbid the American voter should know the Truth about the candidates.

Good for the DNC. The last thing we need is another secret President pulling the strings for someone like little W

The democrats continue on their course of complain, distract, and oppose and then point fingers as to why problems persist. Where are their initiatives? Where are their proposals or solutions?
