Obama satirized as Obamassiah: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Frank James

A week ago in Internet time is like last century. Even so, it seemed worth putting up this video satire that Gerard Baker of the Times (of London) narrates and that was aired on Hannity and Colmes, the Fox News Channel show, last week. (I didn't see it until over the weekend.)

The satire, which uses a lot of footage from Obama's recent trip abroad, makes Sen. Barack Obama into a messianic figure called The Child, in much the way Jesus was the baby born in a manger who became The Messiah. It plays off the notion of Obamassiah, the charge made by critics that many of his followers have turned him almost into a divinity capable of far more than the usual presidential candidate.

The satire obviously means to dim some of the aura surrounding Obama. It's fairly funny in spots. Even some Obama supporters with a sense of humor might get a laugh or two from it.

Of course, out of a desire for fairness, it'd be great to have an equally well-done satire that pokes fun at McCain. If someone can point me to one, I'll post it too.

McCain's already getting a lot of blowback for his stupid ads that are doing nothing but avoiding talking about the real issues and Obama didn't even need to lift a finger.

In six short minutes the whole reason McCain will win is presented.

Obama is a child playing in a adult world. He rides on "APPEASEMENT ONE" and his followers travel on "WITHDRAWAL TWO".

They have no understanding that the terrorist are waiting in the wings with bombs ready to KILL.

After 8 years of complete failure by W, I realize that it may be hard for the GOP to realize that a leader can be popular among the masses and lead a nation. I think as the GOP focuses on the popularity of Obama, they continue to increase his popularity. Thanks GOP for sending the world the message of HOPE in a leader that can unite us all!

Satire only works when there's reality at play. It's Obama who compares himself with "other" presidents on "dollar bills." It's Obama who says a "bright light will come shining down saying 'vote for Barack." And it's Obama who steals lines from others, like "This is the moment" from Bono and today's "in our time" from Neville Chamberlain, the greatest appeaser of the 20th century. Obama's the one making himself a sitting duck for satire. (Oops, is that somehow racist?)

Wow, satire from the media in britain? Maybe the US media will get its head out of the sand and actually give Obama a hard look, even if with an eye toward humor. It's not that hard -- just start with his record, or (more accurately) the lack thereof.

Obama is just an arrogant, narcissist candidate. Unfortunately, his followers fail to detect these characteristics. The ads are not just satire, they are used to expose Obama for who he really is: an empty suit who talks a lot but has no real substances.

MJ,
McCain Mocked Idea of Obama on U.S. Currency...in JUNE
Andrew Sullivan, Chris Bodenner, and Eli Sanders all note that the McCain campaign's strategy on race is to (a) play the race card and then (b) accuse Obama of having played the race card.

The issue here, of course, is that John McCain claimed great umbrage at Barack Obama's lighthearted comment that Bush and McCain would emphasize that "he doesn't look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills."

But if John McCain thinks that comment was playing the race card, then why did he play it first? One month ago -- in late June -- a McCain ad superimposed Obama's visage on a one hundred dollar bill as part of an effort to mock his supposed 'presumptuousness.'

We all know Obama is a fraud and a racist. You wacked out Liberals think he is the Almighty One but the people with brains know he is just a Child with no substance.

The repugs don't get it. The stuff we argued about as Democrats are NOT things they can use effectively as political talking points. It just makes them look dumb.

Obama may be an intelligent, articulate person, great speaker and charming, but somewhere in his personality is this deviousness and haughtiness. Just can't put a finger on it. The same kind of aura the Clintons have. Don't trust them. When America's now being maliciously put down---with the aid of the leftist media--- it's time to consider every little influence being rubbed in the Obama group, that God forbid, will be the downfall of our great nation.

McCain's negative attack ads started almost to the day that Bush-Cheney-Rove sleaze-master veteran Steve Schmidt was put in charge of McCain's campaign. It looks like John McCain wants the Bush crew to do to Obama what they did to him eight years before....avoid talking about the real issues and focus on things like Obama's "race".

This one has some pretty good jabs at both McCain and Obama!

Why don't you Wingnuts just come out and say it?

Why use the racist dog whistles like "his (Obama's) personality is deviousness and haughtiness"?

You don't want a black man to be the next President, period.

His weird, arrogant and messiah-like statements -- such as "the oceans will begin to recede" if he is elected -- are making Obama a parody of himself. Telling Americans to inflate their tires to the proper pressure as an energy strategy make him look even more foolish and cartoonish. Nobama. No way.

I saw this ridiculous video when it first aired on FNC and immediately noticed the close resemblance McCain's web ad showed to this. Of course, McCain's ad came out after the H&C piece. So is the McCain campaign getting tips from Fox News?

http://www.political-buzz.com/

Eve, I'll take haughtiness over incompetence any day ...

But I'm afraid McCain's attack ads will do the job, and once again people will believe in all the nonsense and will vote against their interests.

I don't see how the Democrats can win against the Republican attack machine.

And lo, it came to pass upon viewing this drivel that our stomachs didst turn and from the depths our lips didst spew forth yesterday’s breakfast.

If Obama and his media supporters don't develop a sense of humor, they're going to be the nightly fare on
Leno and Letterman. What a bunch of sourpusses!

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person to have a negative "gut" feeling about Obama. I had a similar feeling about Clinton when he ran and never understood what people found that was so charismatic.

Obama has always struck me as a textbook politician -- always saying what he thinks others wants to hear and never saying quite enough to take a hard-line position on anything. Although he has been reacting to negative polls by being concrete on specific issues -- e.g. he now says more oil drilling is a "practical step."

He knows that he can't be criticized if he keeps speaking in generalities. Voters of late have been calling him to task on this and now that he's being more specific, he's experiencing more criticism.

This is how it should be. We'll be seeing even more of this after the conventions when the race really heats up.

Notice this weekend that Obama would not agree to have town hall meetings with McCain (because that might give McCain an unfair advantage?). Obama would agree only to 3 debates.

Is Obama afraid to be put on the spot?

MJ,
Can't you Wingnuts come up with anything other than the usual tired catch phrases and talking points that Rush and Hannity pass out to you?

...and as far as a Presidential candidate being a late night punch line, McCain has already cornered that market.

This guy is BRILLIANT! Never have I heard a more succinct summation of OBAMASSIAH's love affair with himself. I still think Obama is applying for the wrong job. I think a lifeguard position would be more suited for his particular talents - ie: walking on water and parting the seas!

What is interesting is the usual Democratic complaints about Republican campaign tactics.

According to Democrats, they always have superior, smarter and more smug candidates and better positions on issues, but lose because Republicans "trick" voters into voting against them.

Then they run the same candidates and take the same positions for the next race.

And then they blame the Republicans when they lose.

It's a never ending cycle!

Hey, Grayson, we Obama supporters have a great sense of humor, we laugh everytime we see McBush try to spit out a coherent idea. He's a riot!

Just what we need, highlights from HANNITY & colmes.

Here's hoping Fox News airs something that amuses Frank James today. He needs something to write about tomorrow.

"Even some Obama supporters with a sense of humor might get a laugh or two from it."

Are there Obama supporters with a sense of humor?

I know I haven't found any.

Why won't the messiah debate? Despite claiming he wants to debate the "real issues" he hides and hides and hides behind the teleprompter in carefully controlled events.

Great. A new standard by which we will get our political news. "IF (the reporter) deems a satire created by "someone" not related to any campaign "funny," it will be posted for the world to see.

We've turn the page on serious coverage.

Now the chances

"Of course, out of a desire for fairness, it'd be great to have an equally well-done satire that pokes fun at McCain."

We already have a "messiah", he's sitting in the White House right now and he says that he doesn't make any of the "important decisions" until after he prays to his god.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGRYPYuFZLk

And McCain crying about debates is laughable, it reminds me of when McCain "dared" Obama to take an oversea's trip and then spent the whole week crying about how no one in the media was paying attention to him.
I've already seen McCain debate and it ain't pretty:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcdLO3jKkPo

I think much will be revealed during the televised debates between the 2 candidates. Anyone care to venture if this will this be a Kennedy Nixon repeat?

Have been reading these comments for weeks, and finally felt the urge to speak.

Riddle me this- why do so many Americans feel the need for a "saviour"? That is what you should all be asking. Why is confidence in this country, in this economy, and in its leadership at its lowest point since the last year's of Carter's term? Its because most of us feel so lost, so betrayed, that we need hope, any hope, to help us make it through. 8 years of the Bush-Rove-Cheney experiment have made us willing to follow the sweet whispers of someone with little experience, and to believe that he can answer our prayers.

It is sad that the greatest country on earth would fins itself in such a situation. Only one of the candidates message provides hope... but neither provides the actual platform to put those hopes into reality.

Gina L and eve can see all the cynicism in a "politician" like Obama, but I bet they thought Bush was a wonderful guy, plain-spoken, not a "politician" ... and look where he got us !!

Obama had three items to compare himself with on that ad - the Statue of Liberty, the presidents on Mt. Rushmore and the $100.00 bill. Why did he pick the bill when no president is pictured on it? He should have picked Mt. Rushmore!

'The United States one hundred-dollar bill ($100) is a denomination of United States currency. U.S. statesman, inventor, and diplomat Benjamin Franklin is currently featured on the obverse of the bill, while Independence Hall is featured on the reverse. The bill is one of two current notes that does not feature a President of the United States; the other is the United States ten-dollar bill, featuring Alexander Hamilton.'

Mary, your remark about McCain crying when Obama took his field trip to earth to get some experience on his resume, McCain might not have predicated that all 3 broadcast networks would each send their (Obama adoring) nightly news anchor. That has never happened before in American history. All 3 anchors accompanying an overseas trip has been reserved for Presidents. Yet given Obama has already mentioned "when I was a Senator," and requested to speak at the Brandenburg Gate, reserved for Presidents, he's effectively running for reelection now, not election. Given Obama is currently the sitting President of USA ( and earth ), one would think he'd be doing better in the polls than dead even nationally and dropping in all battleground states for the last 2 weeks.

I read this brilliant satire by Gerard Baker and thought it was falling, down hysterical.
I support Obama and have a sense of humor too!
(Oh, and I have the New Yorker cover framed in my office.)

everyone says obama acts like he's better than everyone. that's because he is. and if any of you had half a brain, you'd understand his policies too.

he heh...who says liberals don't have a sense of humor.

For all you Obamabots that got all bent out of shape with McCain's funny comparison of Obama's celebrity status to Paris Hilton, consider that Obama beat McCain by three years in that comparison.

Here's a Feb. 24, 2005, Washington Post article quoting Obama- (Warning: the following quote may be deemd an Obamanation to weak-kneed, sensitive Democrats):

"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," says Barack Obama. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

That has never happened before in American history. All 3 anchors accompanying an overseas trip has been reserved for President. Polls this early don't mean a thing and the fact that McCain was dumb enough to "dare" Obama to take an oversea's trip speaks volumes about how dumb he is

Kathy Hilton isn't just angry about the ad, she called it "a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign" to boot! Them's fighting words. Turns out the Hiltons are BIG DONORS TO McCAIN and the GOP!
http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/search.php?name=hilton&state=CA&zip=90210&employ=&cand=&c2008=Y&sort=N&capcode=75m3y&submit=Submit

When I say big donors....I mean BIG..

HILTON, WILLIAM B MR

HILTON, KATHLEEN MRS
BEVERLY HILLS,CA 90210
4/7/08 $2,300 McCain, John (R)

All told, the Hilton's ponied up something like 30 grand for McCain and the GOP, just in this election cycle! Now 30 large is a significant chunk of change, but the Hilton's are worth more than that to McCain and the GOP. What about their employees? That's another chunk of change. And then there are the folks they could fete in a fundraiser, or just call to raise some quick cash. Kiss those goodbye...

McCain, of course, is as out of touch with this as he is with so many other things. When asked about the wisdom running this ad, McCain responded by saying:

"We think it's got a lot of humor in it, we're having fun and enjoying it ... we'll continue to fight and scrap all the way to November 4."

I'm sure the Hilton's are all in favor of fun and enjoying it, but not at their expense -- especially when it's on their dime. The AP is reporting "McCains Attack Strategy Paying Dividends," but you have to wonder about the rate of return on this investment. McCain has done more than just alienate the Hilton's and their circle of friends.

Speaking of "no substance"...

Why is it that lately the Republicans can't stand anyone who educated? They remind me of the jocks and cheerleaders in high school who made fun of the 'smart' kids who actually went on to achieve something in life rather than sitting around insulting and name-calling in order to make themselves seem superior.

Frank James, why do you keep censoring me? You don't like me to identify the teenagers blogging on behalf of the Obama campaign, defending him shamelessly? Yet, you let somebody post the following? (this was posted by dave):

"everyone says obama acts like he's better than everyone. that's because he is. and if any of you had half a brain, you'd understand his policies too. "

Come on! I'll use other blogs to denounce your censorship (or selectivity flaws, whichever way you like)

What's the real problem here? Is it that Senator Obama is a popular, intelligent, decent, and fair man who is admired by the world? Besides, since when has a presidential candidate’s popularity been a detriment to the individual running for office?

Did folks assume that Mr. Obama would flop on his world tour? Well, he didn't! If the world reveres Mr. Obama, perhaps, all of America should wonder why? Is it because he is indeed respected and capable of being commander-in-chief? Would you rather that Mr. Obama be illiterate and unpopular? Well, he’s not. Dream on!!!

It bothers me that folks find fault with Mr. Obama, and yet, “just can’t put a finger on it.” Let’s be fair! Everyone knows that Mr. Obama is well-qualified to be President of the United States! So please, please, please stop trying to undermine Mr. Obama. America is sick of the dirty politics! Also, Senator McCain can stop running his false, negative ads and wasting his supporters’ money! It appears that those ads were run out of fear and envy. It only makes Mr. McCain look small. Let's have a fair campaign. Mr. Obama has a right to run for president just as any other qualified candidate! Perhaps, Mr. Obama's popularity is an indication that he will be the next U.S. president!

The "Child" is a shameless fraud! Although this clip was obviously made in jest of the Twit, it rings true to the extent that his mis-guided followers are as simple-minded as Obama is. Heaven help us if this "child" is elected as the next U.S. President. Obama is a pathetic example of African-Americans who by and large should be (and many are) intellectually and ethically embarrassed by this individual.

Oaklynne, well at least McCain has "original" ideas, unlike Ooobbbbammm. Who stutters everytime he tries to copy someone else's ideas. Uh Uh Uh, like he did during the debates with Hillary. That was why she complained that she was called on first, he would then mimic her and act like it was his original idea. So, as I said at least McCain has his own ideas.

At this rate, McCain is going to win all 57 states...

"Obama stumbles, McCain surges in poll

Published Monday, August 4, 2008
by Herbert L. White

Presumptive presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama are in a statistical dead heat among likely voters, according to the latest Zogby International poll.

The national Associated TV/Zogby International telephone poll of 1,011 voters surveyed July 31-Aug. 1 finds McCain (R-Arizona) leading 42 percent to 41 percent over Obama (D-Ill.), which represents a sudden turnaround from the Reuters/Zogby poll of July 7-9 that showed Obama ahead, 46 to 36 percent in a four-way race with Libertarian Bob Barr of Georgia and liberal independent Ralph Nader. McCain made big gains among some of Obama’s strongest demographic groups – young adults, women and independents. "

Maybe Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt should run for the WH together since they command a great deal of popularity?

The article suggests that his follows have made him into the Messiah, but MEDIA did more for him than anyone could, he does get credit for talking the Messiah talk while they filmed ha. McCain ads were huge on YouTube, check out the hits...and HE got criticized for not being able to make it without internet skills ha ha. Think again!

Yeah, Mr Clinton got his in yesterday. He is still fuming the way Obama used the race card on him. The media is still blaming him for it ha. He says he'll talk more about it after the elections. He doesn't have to, we get it....been there, done that ha.

Re: "Maybe Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt should run for the WH together since they command a great deal of popularity?" Posted by: chitown independent | August 5, 2008 12:03 AM

To: chitown independent: If Mr. Pitt desired to run for president--all power to him! He has that right. However, currently, Ms. Jolie does not meet the criteria for either the president or vice president...she is 33. By the way, I love the humanitarian work that both Pitt and Jolie are doing!

Now regarding Senator Barack Obama, as I stated before, he is qualified and has a right to run for president just as any other "qualified" candidate!

The point that I was making earlier regarding "popularity" is that when people come out by the thousands to see Mr. Obama, it is an outward show of their admiration and support because that they are interested in what he has to say. Many folks are motivated to come out to hear him because they find him credible, support his views, and obviously, consider him to be a leader. Therefore, if Mr. Obama's popularity holds true, it is an indication that he will be the next U.S. president because that popularity will more than likely transcend into votes!

Further, all U.S. presidential candidates have won the presidency based on their popularity--whether it is based on their points of views regarding domestic and foreign issues, credibility, likeability, qualifications, ability to work well with others to get things done, etc.

PPG-that's right, as long as it's a 'c' word.....CELEBRITY ha!
