DENVER--Already shunned for a national nominating convention speaking role by home-state Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign, Gov. Rod Blagojevich won't attend the Illinois Democratic delegation's opening breakfast Monday and may miss later podium appearances by three potential rivals.
Sources close to Blagojevich, who were not authorized to speak about his schedule, said Sunday that the governor was considering traveling to Denver either Monday night or Tuesday, following a possible news conference in Illinois.
The Democratic National Convention's opening theme is Obama's life story, in part delivered through narratives by a host of Illinois characters.
Michelle Obama, the candidate's wife, will be the featured act, speaking after a lineup that includes her brother, Oregon State basketball coach and Chicago native Craig Robinson.
And there's the Illinois Democratic up-and-comers, seeking their moment on a convention stage that vaulted Obama to political stardom four years ago. Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Comptroller Dan Hynes and Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, possible contenders for governor in 2010, are scheduled to speak as are U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and former Obama state Senate colleague, Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle.

Attention all Obama lovers:
Please come to Illinois to check out the sorry state of affairs in the Land of Lincoln. The IL Democrats (Obama's friends and sponsors) control most (if not all) aspects of state and local government. We're living through a fiscal nightmare and a historic period of political ineptness - - even by Illinois standards. Think Governor Blagojevic, Emil Jones, Michael Madigan, Todd Stroger (my favorite), Jesse Jr. and Sr., Tricky Dick Durbin, Rahm Emmanuel, etc.
This backdrop in mind- - how can Obama credibly peddle a message of "change we can believe in"? He hasn't done ANYTHING for the people in Illinois other than market himself to a national audience. Worse yet, he has NO OPINION on what's going down in the State, the City of Chicago, and Cook County.
Shame on you on you, Mr. Obama.
You have no credibility.
Pardon my bitterness. I can't get beyond the recent Todd Stroger Cook County tax increase. Recall that Obama endorsed Stroger.

How do you get awarded a beer distributor ship! Illinois politics is not what Obama needs to be parading at this convention. Do Cindy McCain and Jess Jackson Jr. go to the same trade shows? Let them eat Nuts! the polls are not showing a strong bounce for Obama. The Daily Gallup has to be dsappointing: http://www.gallup.com/poll/109753/Gallup-Daily-McCain-Obama-Tied-45.aspx However, BopObama is out in force at http://www.bop-o-rama.com. Come on! When are the BopMcCain-O crats coming out!

I think Obama wants to stay as far away from the embarassment that is Blagojevich as possible. Why do you keep letting that guy plug his site on the Swamp?

How many times do we have to be bored with Obam's life story. Enough already! On the religous forum all he did was refer to his grandfather, father, mother, again and again, over and over. And to have to listen to Michelle (the American hater) tell the story over and over again is too much. Thank goodness for DVR, I work so I will be recording the convention so I can watch Hillary, and Bill and the deligate count. The rest will be fast forwarded. Still don't understand why Michelle is even going to have a speaking time slot.

The unions getting card-check for public employees has done nothing but get more dues money for the unions. Is this the shining beacon of why it should be federal law?

Why not have Blagojevich appear, who cares if he's about the trouble his in with the connections to Joe Cari....Cari is the same guy who was to take a big part in Joe Biden's try for president, here's a little preview of the site below>* Until recently, almost every Democratic presidential candidate who came through town trolling for money sought Cari's support. He has been involved in every presidential campaign since 1980, along the way holding a variety of positions on the Democratic National Committee. (If Al Gore had prevailed in 2000, Cari might have been in line for the ambassadorship to Italy.) Before he was indicted, Cari was poised to take a major role in the prospective 2008 White House run of Delaware senator Joe Biden>

Like Obama, Blagojevich is a smart guy. He can read his dismal poll numbers like anyone else. He knows he adds no luster to Obama's image at this point. He may not like it, but he understands it.

Obama will avoid Blago like the plague. Obama would kick anyone to the curb to further his political career.

Herbie, Blago is as popular as the plague here in Illinois, so I'd hope he'd have the good sense not to risk spreading his ills to Obama or anyone else at the convention. He avoid personal contact and consider himself in quarantine.
