Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign said today that it raised more than $51 million in July, as he saw his campaign bank account drop slightly from $71.7 million at the end of June to an estimated $65.8 million at the end of July.
The Illinois Democrat's July fundraising was roughly equal to June, as he added more than 65,000 new donors during the month and brought his total donor database to 2 million people.
"We are proud of the millions of volunteers and more than two million donors to the Obama campaign who will provide the backbone of our campaign" Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said in a statement.
Obama's final June figures showed he had total receipts of $54.3 million.
On Friday, Sen. John McCain of Arizona reported raising $27 million in July and said he had $21.4 million in his campaign bank accounts.
Obama decided to bypass the public financing system for the fall campaign, allowing him to raise and spend as much as he likes.
McCain, meanwhile, has agreed to participate in the system, as have all previous presidential nominees since it was established more than three decades ago following the Watergate scandal and will get $84 million in public money.
Obama would have received the same amount for his general election effort. Instead, his campaign has set a goal of raising $300 million during a five-month period that ends in October, which means his July total is slightly behind pace.
In almost every major city Obama has visited in recent weeks, he has spent time attending fundraisers to boost his campaign fund and one he shares with the Democratic National Committee. Even this past week while on vacation in Hawaii, he attended a fundraising event that raised $1.3 million.

Do you have something against title 8? Your comment reaks of "fried chicken" undertones spoken by a redneck. Get a package and say what you really mean.

Your comment wreaks of "fried chicken" innuendo. Are you attending the meeting tonight? Have you got a clean sheet? Put a little suntan lotion on that neck son.....it's red.

George and Dan - you two are just jealous, aren't ya?
It won't kill me if McCain wins. I've suffered thru 8 years of W's fiasco, so what's another 4? American people will make that decision. Won't surprise me, they picked W twice.
But if Obama wins, it'll just kill you, wouldn't it? I'm sure looking forward to that. And that goes for Jeff, Bruce, JohnD and Jerry White from Springfield IL. :-)

dan's Title 8 comments tell me that he is one of those people who are against "socialism" or anything that helps the poor, but he is all for socialism for the wealthy in the form of bailouts for corporations and no taxes on the wealthy.

Hey Dan- I can spell just fine, including "racist". You cannot accept that there might be a lot of people with money that support Obama. Hey, maybe I can be just like you! How many McCain dollars come come from welfare and double-wides? Don't hand it out unless you can take it.

Dan, if you're going to make snarky comments about Bill's spelling, how about addressing your own (non-)use of the apostrophe? And your (non-)use of the space bar? Thanks.

besides I don't believe in Lving Gods-

George,
The only people touting this "living god" crap are you right wing whack jobs who can't come up with a convincing arguement why Americans should want four more years of incompetent Republican (alleged) leadership.
Oh, and by the way, it was Bush who claimed God told him to be president and to invade Iraq. And McCain is getting pretty close to claiming a divine presence in his corner. I little more circumspection on the whole political divinity thing might do you some good.

So the corporate dollars keep piling up. (yawn) But here's something more interesting...
In all this time since the Russian invasion, Obama, the guy who wants to be Commander in Chief, who is asking us to make him the leader of this nation (y'know THE principal member and founding nation of NATO) has been absolutely silent. I would have thought that a presumptive nominee for POTUS would have something (however brief) to say about the situation. Guess I was wrong.
Now some people might say that his vacation is more important than an international crisis and that he has earned the right to frolic in the surf away from the media. Maybe. Or maybe he's incommunicado because Axelrod hasn't told him what to say yet.

What's wrong with the southside of Chicago? I live in the south suburbs (otherwise known as the southside) and I have to tell you, lots of different people in my presinct with MANY different opinions. Everyone be quiet if you can't get along

I thought I could do a lot with McCains's $27,000,000. $51,000,000, now thats some serious cash. I wonder how this is playing out at the on-line realtime poll at http://www.bop-o-rama.com? Obam seems to be getting the bop knocked out of him. Do you think his supporter get that it is McCain they should be bopping or is this how people feel about his vacation. Thank goodness money isn't everything, Paris has the looks in this campaign!

You neglected to mention in your article that McCain/RNC funds on hand are greater than Obama/DNC. I am sure it was just an oversight.
Thanks.

Doug, Bill, Jim, Tom:
Never argue with an idiot who is convinced he is infallible.
The real problem they have is if they continue to vote Republican against their own economic self-interests they are lessening the chances that their kids will ever be able to climb up the ladder. Oh well, maybe they really will be millionaires one day, and able to benefit from a Republican administration.
George: I know you are not a millionaire because you cannot afford someone to proofread your posts.
Cheers all!

Hey, Bill Clinton took millions from Communist China. What's wrong with Obama getting money from Hamas? Oh, he did return some of that AFTER it was discovered by others. (Reference: "Palestinian brothers inside the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip are listed in government election filings as having donated $29,521.54 to Sen. Barack Obama's campaign"). Source: World Net Daily.

bill r is on a ROLL!
Good stuff.
But seriously--we'll need to penny pinch and send more money to the Obama campaign soon.
They're doing a good job of keeping on top of the falsehoods this time.
I particularly liked this refutation of the mcsame attack on the stimulus package (and also Mcsame is LYING about level of income Obama thinks should get taxed).

Monty,
While I appreciate your sentiments regarding not responding to idiots, I've learned my lesson the hard way.
There are those among us who believe that the these moronic (dan) posts have merit, if gone unrebutted.
So, if and when "dan" comes back with a Roswell space alien endorsement for McCain, he's going to get some shove back that will hopefully land him on his behind.
Leave no Swift Boat attack unscuttled.

Good lord---citing WORLD NET DAILY? That Corsi rag?
He of the bulk-buy driven "NY Times Best Seller" status (you'd think the gray lady couldl find a better way to do a REAL count of sales, no?)?
Media Matters did a great refutation of the author on Larry King the other night

This must be the Republican's Comedy Central. The best they can offer in terms of their positions on the important issues of the day are comical at best and pathetic, with regularity. They relentlessly attack Senator Obama with innuendo and distortion, when it is their candidate that has been cited by the Senate Ethics Committee for " Questionable Conduct " ; for influence-peddling, vacations for the family, questionable contributions. All of this " Questionable Conduct " being engaged in, with Mr Keating, the director of a falling S & L Association. It is Senator McCain that can be questioned about his questionable judgement, allegiances, not with the People , but with his political contributors and last, but not least, can we count on him, as President Bush did with his appointments to our DOJ, to influence the directions of investigations, political witch hunts and the ignoring of his Corporate Buddies misdeeds !!? I don't think Senator McCain has conducted himself, very well, in his tenure in the Senate and it is only by the good graces of the voters of Arizona, that he still has a job. His disreputable record should prevent him from being voted for our Presidency, by any voter disturbed by such outrageous and reprehensible conduct. I know I cant' vote for a person, who came very close to being cited for near-criminal behavior !!! Senator McCain does not deserve, nor has he earn the privilege, to run for our Presidency !!

Did any catch the forum with obama and McCain, what a crock obama, when they talked about religion Obama wanted to still say like he did 7 months ago, and in his book Rev, Wright, was his Mentor and spiritual advisor,
but like alway Obama fliped floped again and again,
Obama showed today he is not ready for the 3am phone call,, he would get scared, and start stammering again,
When Obama and McCain when they really debate, is Obama going to agree with everything McCain says, like he did with Hillary Clinton, and him give Obama all the answers ,,, and take him as his own later,,,
Just like Hillary,, Even CNN News claims Obama Adopted all of Hillary's Agendas, Why so many Obama supporter can not think for them self, the love the reality TV crap, Rock star image, Boy is this country going to suffer if Obama elected,,, I am a Hillary Supporter, this will be the first year I vote Republican because I don't believe in throwing alway my Vote, and to me it still best for the job,

Anybody else see McCain's pathetic performance last night at Saddleback? I think we can officially change his campaign slogan to the "Pander Express".

No, you look up the words, you might learn something !! While you are at it, look up my closing line as well. you know, the one that starts, " Support...." !!
